Abstract

The modern Russian speech includes different lexemes, many of which are borrowed. The article aims to analyse the results of assimilation of the English borrowing “melomaniac” and possible changes of the semantic meaning depending on monolingual and bilingual area of usage. Scientific originality of the study lies in the fact that for the first time the borrowed lexeme is analysed in the comparative aspect. The findings indicate the broadening of the lexeme’s semantic meaning in monolinguals’ speech.
