Abstract

This study discusses the effects of new media, and its various applications, on the Egyptian public, and the awareness of potential dangers and repercussions of rumors as they apply to the economic crisis in Egypt during and after the January revolution. It also discusses future role of new media in dealing with this phenomenon of rumors and false information, which has increased exponentially with growing Internet use. It will show the effect of this on public opinion regarding the economic situation in Egypt during the January revolution on the one hand, and the reliance on new media applications as an important source of information and positive interaction with the growing freedom of dissemination and exchange of information and also the emergence of what is known as citizen journalism.
