The Factors Affecting the Awareness of Young People on Sexual Transmitted Infections (STIS): Knowledge, Attitude and Environment

The outbreak of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in the nation is not something new; in fact, the issue has been around for many years and has been steadily becoming worse over that time. The problem becomes more crucial as each year; an increasing number of cases will be reported in Malaysia and throughout the world. In some cases, symptoms of STIs may not even be present. This can mean that a person might get infected by another person who might appear healthy without knowing they have already been infected with STIs; therefore, this article aims to investigate the knowledge, attitudes, and environment as the factors that influence awareness of Sexual Transmitted Infections (STIS) among the 227 of youths. A survey was conducted, and the data was analyzed using regression analysis. The result revealed that knowledge, attitude, and environment had a significant influence on sexually transmitted infections. In addition, the environmental factor reported had the most significant influence. The finding implies that external roles, such as those of the government, schools, and universities, should be provided with more facilities and programs to sustain and improve awareness among the youth group. Furthermore, increasing youth awareness may change individual behavior and attitude toward a good, healthy lifestyle.

He Said, She Said: a Dyadic Perspective on Adolescent Conflict Management and Dating Violence.

Physical dating violence is a widespread problem in adolescence, which often occurs during conflict escalation. Given that individual reports may be subject to many biases, including data from both partners is essential to yield a more accurate portrait of adolescent dating relationships. This study sought to examine within-dyad agreement rates as well as dyadic associations between both partners' conflict behaviors and physical dating violence using actor-partner interdependence modeling. The sample consisted of 126 different-sex adolescent couples (n = 252, girls: Mage = 17.34, SD = 1.39, boys: Mage = 17.98, SD = 1.65). Each partner independently completed an online questionnaire. The results revealed that boys and girls mostly disagree about what is going on within their relationship, and that the use of destructive conflict behaviors equally contributed to both partner's physical dating violence perpetration and victimization. Increasing youth's awareness of their own and their partner's behaviors during conflict is key in preventing conflict escalation, and ultimately reducing the incidence of physical dating violence.

Sociological monitoring of student youth involvement in regional socio-economic development processes in modern Russian society

Student youth is the most creatively active, creative, able to put forward new ideas and implement promising projects social-demographic group of the population of the country and the region. In this regard, the student youth role in the processes of socio-economic development of the region and the country as a whole is key. At the same time, this socio-demographic group requires development and implementation of a clear, systematic, and effective policy in the field of education, culture, socio-economic and professional development, as well as mechanisms of involvement in the processes of regional socio-economic development in order to preserve and further develop human capital. The results of the sociological survey of students of Russian universities and colleges (N = 1.560 thousand people) from all federal districts conducted in 2023 have been presented. According to the sociological monitoring results, it has been revealed that a significant part of students is not purposefully interested in and does not track information about the activities of public authorities and is not involved in the processes of regional socio-economic development. The level of awareness and interaction of student youth with regional youth organizations is low. More than a third of students are not properly informed about the activities of these organizations, and their involvement is no more than 11 %. In order to increase the level of student youth involvement in the processes of regional socio-economic development in modern Russian society, the authors have developed methodological recommendations for engaging activities implementation.

Fact or Fiction-Accelerometry Versus Self-Report in Adherence to Pediatric Concussion Protocols: Prospective Longitudinal Cohort Study.

Concussion, or mild traumatic brain injury, is a growing public health concern, affecting approximately 1.2% of the population annually. Among children aged 1-17 years, concussion had the highest weighted prevalence compared to other injury types, highlighting the importance of addressing this issue among the youth population. This study aimed to assess adherence to Return to Activity (RTA) protocols among youth with concussion and to determine if better adherence affected time to recovery and the rate of reinjury. Children and youth (N=139) aged 5-18 years with concussion were recruited. Self-reported symptoms and protocol stage of recovery were monitored every 48 hours until symptom resolution was achieved. Daily accelerometry was assessed with the ActiGraph. Data were collected to evaluate adherence to the RTA protocol based on physical activity cutoff points corresponding to RTA stages. Participants were evaluated using a battery of physical, cognitive, and behavioral measures at recruitment, upon symptom resolution, and 3 months post symptom resolution. For RTA stage 1, a total of 13% of participants were adherent based on accelerometry, whereas 11% and 34% of participants were adherent for stage 2 and 3, respectively. The median time to symptom resolution was 13 days for participants who were subjectively reported adherent to the RTA protocol and 20 days for those who were subjectively reported as nonadherent (P=.03). No significant agreement was found between self-report of adherence and objective actigraphy adherence to the RTA protocol as well as to other clinical outcomes, such as depression, quality of life, and balance. The rate of reinjury among the entire cohort was 2% (n=3). Overall, adherence to staged protocols post concussion was minimal when assessed with accelerometers, but adherence was higher by self-report. More physical activity restrictions, as specified in the RTA protocol, resulted in lower adherence. Although objective adherence was low, reinjury rate was lower than expected, suggesting a protective effect of being monitored and increased youth awareness of protocols. The results of this study support the move to less restrictive protocols and earlier resumption of daily activities that have since been implemented in more recent protocols.

Survey on the awareness and behavior of urban youth in rights protection

With the continuous development of the economy and the comprehensive progress of society, the legitimate rights and interests of urban youth in China, such as the right to survival, development, participation, and protection, have been realized to a greater extent. The awareness and ability of youth to protect their rights have been continuously enhanced. However, there are still issues and situations where the awareness and behavior of rights protection are inconsistent, and the education on the rule of law is not ideal. A variety of measures should be taken to further strengthen and improve the awareness and ability of youth to protect their rights, and to enhance their sense of social responsibility. This is not only conducive to the healthy growth and comprehensive development of youth but also aligns with the goals of building a country governed by the rule of law.

A study on awareness and attitude of youth towards the use of herbal cosmetic products in Rajkot district

There is a significance growth in allocation of funds in budget 2022-23 by government of India to Ministry of Ayush as compare to last 10years. At the same time data researched and revealed by ministry and CII shows that CAGR is increasing rapidly of herbal products. Rajkot district is populated and multi cultured city. Youth in particularly will be the contributor to this herbal cosmetic industry in future. Therefore this research mainly focused on awareness and attitude towards herbal cosmetic product amongst youth between 15-29 years of age. Study also focuses their difference of opinions based on gender and age wise.Total Revenue in the Herbal Cosmetics segment amounts to US$0.84bn in 2022. The market is expected to grow annually by 3.41% (CAGR 2022-2026). This shows the potential for growth but at the same time it is important to see awareness and attitude of youth in Rajkot district so that government and companies can design their strategies accordingly.In this research, after studying a lot of literature, data released by government official and research output of CII, researcher has decided to use descriptive research methodology. Sampling technique used is Convenience (non-random sampling) sampling with sample size of 237 out of total population of Rajkot district within decided sample frame.This study reveals that awareness amongst youth related to herbal cosmetic product is very high but at the same time only 9.3% respondents using herbal cosmetics products frequently in their day to day life. If respondents are given a chance they majority of respondents are willing to use herbal cosmetic products. This shows a huge potential to grow in this segment in near future.

Knowledge and practices of youth awareness on death and dying in school settings: a systematic scoping review protocol

BackgroundAwareness-raising and education have been identified as strategies to counter the taboo surrounding death and dying. As the favoured venue for youth education, schools have an essential role to play in informing future decision-makers. However, school workers are not comfortable addressing the subjects of death and dying, which, unlike other social issues, have no guidelines to influence awareness of these subjects in youth.ObjectivesTo systematically explore the knowledge and practices on raising awareness about death and dying in schools, the viewpoints of the people involved (young people, school workers; parents), and the factors that either promote or hinder awareness practices.MethodThe scoping review method of Levac and Colquhoun (Implement Sci 5(1):69, 2010) will be used. Using a combination of keywords and descriptors, a body of literature will be identified through 15 databases and through grey literature searches, manual searches, consultation of key collaborators, and the list of relevant literature. Publications since 2009 will be selected if they relate directly to awareness-raising about death and dying in schools. Writings will be selected and extracted by two independent people, and conflicts resolved by consensus. The extracted data will be synthesized using a thematic analysis method. Experts from a variety of disciplines (health sciences, humanities, social sciences, and education) will be consulted to enhance the interpretation of the preliminary results. Results will be presented in narrative form and will include tables and diagrams.ConclusionThe results of this scoping review will contribute to the development of educational practices adapted to young people and to the identification of future avenues of research on awareness of death and dying.

This study proposes the comprehensive implementation of civic and moral education programs and the impact of promoting sustainable democracy. This study uses qualitative research with a phenomenological approach. The subjects in this study focused on educators, high school students, and young people who were strategically selected through purposive sampling. Primary data sources were obtained through interviews, while secondary data sources were literature studies related to curriculum and school policies. The data collection technique uses in-depth interviews with a semi-structured format through open questions. The data obtained was translated and analyzed qualitatively. The results of the study show that comprehensive civic and moral education programs contribute to promoting democratic values and attitudes among youth. Instilling democratic values to increase youth participation and awareness in Cambodia requires steps including teacher training, curriculum changes, interactive learning, open political workings, and involving the community. Teaching better civic and moral education can help in maintaining democracy and the involvement of young people.

Media Influence on Youth Health Awareness amidst the COVID-19 Pandemic: A Comprehensive Study on the Role of Public Service Announcements and TV News

This study investigates the role of Public Service Announcements (PSAs) and News on TV in creating COVID-19-related health awareness among Pakistani youth. Guided by the agenda-setting theory, the research explores how electronic media coverage adopted media, public, and policy agenda stages in disseminating health precautionary measures during the pandemic outbreak. An online survey was conducted using a questionnaire tool of 32 items with Cronbach's alpha value (α = 0.922). One sample t-test, correlation, and frequency distribution were applied to compare the mean values and to observe the relation between independent and dependent variables of the selected sample of youth (N=436), living in Lahore including both males and females under the age of 18 to 32 years old. Results have shown that government-led PSAs significantly improve youth awareness and knowledge about COVID-19, combating misinformation. Moreover, findings support youth reliance on PSAs and a positive response to vaccination against COVID-19.

Youth and Young Adult Awareness of and Perceptions About Tobacco Marketing as a Social Justice Issue.

Systemic racism and tobacco-industry targeting contribute to disparities in communities of color. However, understanding tobacco as a social justice issue and the industry's role in perpetuating inequities remains limited. This study explored youth and young adult awareness of tobacco marketing and perceptions of tobacco marketing as a social justice issue. Focus groups were conducted with youth and young adults in 2020 and 2021, including individuals who used tobacco and e-cigarettes and those who did not use either. Online surveys were conducted in 2021 with youth (n = 1227) and young adults (n = 2643) using AmeriSpeak's nationally representative panel, oversampling for black and Hispanic Americans and people who smoke. Perceptions of flavor bans, social justice, and industry marketing were assessed. Most (>80%) survey respondents agreed that tobacco companies target youth. However, only 20% saw tobacco as a social justice issue. Focus group participants regardless of their tobacco or e-cigarette use, reported higher prevalence of tobacco advertising in their communities relative to survey respondents but did not view it as targeting communities of color. Black non-Hispanic (20.9%) and Hispanic (21.4%) survey respondents perceived tobacco as a social justice issue more than white non-Hispanic (16.1%) respondents. The majority (>60%) of survey respondents supported bans on menthol and flavored tobacco, regardless of race or ethnicity. Respondents broadly supported menthol and flavored tobacco bans and recognized tobacco-industry influence on youth. Low awareness of tobacco as a social justice issue highlights the need to raise awareness of the underlying factors driving tobacco-related disparities. The majority of young people see the tobacco industry as targeting them. Most young people support bans on menthol and flavored tobacco bans, with support across racial and ethnic groups. While few young respondents perceived tobacco as a social justice issue, some perceived tobacco companies as targeting low-income and communities of color. Black non-Hispanic and Hispanic respondents were more likely to perceive tobacco as a social justice issue than white non-Hispanic respondents. Efforts to raise awareness among young people of tobacco as a social justice issue may be key in addressing tobacco disparities and advancing support for flavor tobacco bans.

Increasing Adolescents' Knowledge in Indonesia of HIV and STD in Leading-Up Three Zero HIV/AIDS 2030

During the transition period of puberty, adolescents experience physical, psychological, and ways of thinking, which social and environmental changes will have a significant impact on adolescents. Improper self-control becomes a threat that can damage the morale and future of adolescents, including choosing the wrong environment resulting in drug abuse, unwanted pregnancies, abortions, sexually transmitted infections, HIV, and AIDS. This community service activity aims to increase the knowledge and importance of youth awareness in Malang about HIV and STIs. This activity is an online lecture-based activity (webinar) and live event assisting teenagers in Malang area. It is held for seven weeks by providing education about what HIV is, why it must be avoided—the dangers of sexually transmitted infections online followed by a discussion session. The activity was attended by 763 participants aged 10-20 years and 114 guardians of students and laypeople. The results obtained during the activity showed an increase in the post-test scores compared to the values before getting the webinar. A long-term evaluation still needs to be carried out to assess the absorption rate of the material that has been carried out on the quality of life of webinar participants. The conclusion obtained from this activity is that the knowledge of webinar participants, especially teenagers, about HIV/AIDS has increased, and knowledge is a fundamental thing that must be instilled in adolescents as early as possible to prevent HIV transmission in adolescents.

Youth Awareness and Exaggerated Fears of Influence Concerns about the Influence of Netflix Films on Gender Identity

This study aims to highlight the misconception that the new generation awareness regarding essential principles such as gender identity, religion, nationalism is strongly influenced by the media. Despite changes perceived in their choice of clothing, food and words used in daily living this my not reflect significant changes in their deep values. The adult exaggerated fear of youth being easily influenced by media may be unfounded. Societal changes on some aspects like appearance and behaviour may not necessarily reflect changes in deep beliefs and local values. Adults may overestimate the impact of such observed changes in youth appearance and behaviours in these deep local and regional values. Youth may not be as vulnerable as commonly thought by the adults and despite external changes deep values were still preserved. This study was done using the youth responses to material broadcasted through Netflix and specifically issued related to gender identity.

The Effect of Green Technology Policy on Climate Change Awareness of Youth in Sabah, Malaysia

The role to mitigate climate change issue should be embark among youth. This study examines the effects of green technology policy on climate change awareness of youth in Sabah, Malaysia. Using a random sampling method, this study involved 254 respondents from four areas of Sabah namely Tawau, Lahad Datu, Sandakan, and Kota Kinabalu. This study used two approaches which are i) probit model and ii) two-stage least squares method. We find a positive effect between youth’ positive perceptions on green technology policy on their climate change awareness. In addition, the effect becomes five times higher when we address the endogeneity problem in model estimation using the two-stage least squares method and identification strategy based on the prospect theory. This study has highlighted the great impact of youth in implementing green technology to reduce climate change issues in Malaysia in general.

Mapping Youth Awareness of Sports Betting Advertising During the 2022 FIFA World Cup

Young people are known to be highly engaged in sports betting and therefore may be particularly susceptible to the effects of gambling-related advertising. The purpose of the present study was to examine young people’s recall of sports betting advertising during the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The sample consisted of 190 UK residents aged 18–24 who had watched at least one 2022 World Cup match. A cross-sectional survey was conducted to collect data on participants' recall of sports betting advertisements across several media types and for different bets and betting offers, as well as their problem gambling scores. The findings indicated that young people were able to recall a high amount of advertising for various types of bets (95.6%) and betting inducements (89.5%). A high proportion of young people recalled advertising for risky bet types and promotions, such as 64.2% for in-play betting and 68.1% for sign-up offers. Overall, higher-risk gamblers recalled encountering more advertising than lower-risk gamblers. Participants recalled encountering sports betting advertisements on social media the most (10–14 ads per week), then on internet banners and television (5–9 ads per week, respectively). Less than half (46.3%) of respondents were aware of advertising for responsible gambling tools. This study underscores the need for policy measures that limit young people's exposure to gambling advertising, particularly for products that may contribute to gambling-related harm, and that increase the promotion of responsible gambling tools.

Adapting a youth suicide prevention program for rural communities in the United States: a feasibility study

Rural youth suicide represents a major source of mental health inequity in the United States (US). School-based suicide prevention programs may provide an effective avenue to address this mental health crisis among rural youth. This study’s primary goal is to demonstrate the feasibility and acceptability of a novel implementation approach (utilizing teachers from a neighboring school) for delivering the Youth Aware of Mental Health (YAM) program, an evidence-based, universal youth suicide prevention curriculum, to high school students in rural Montana. We will recruit approximately 1300 9th grade student in four Montana schools. Using a non-inferiority design, we will randomize classrooms in each school to be instructed by a teacher from another school (YAM-TE; experimental) or a traditional external instructor (YAM-EXT; control). We will assess program fidelity of both YAM training and implementation via independent observer and instructor-reporter ratings. Youth will complete measures of acceptability at post-YAM and outcome measures at pre-YAM, post-YAM, and 12 month follow-up. Standard and mixed linear and logistic regression models will be used to test the main hypothesis that the YAM-TE does not differ from YAM-EXT regarding fidelity (teachers) and acceptability (teachers and youth). Exploratory analyses will test moderation of the intervention effect (e.g., sex, poverty) and the mediating effect of mental health literacy, belongingness, and perceived burdensomeness on the intervention effect. Results of this pilot study will inform the development of subsequent, fully powered noninferiority trials. Our long-term goal is to scale YAM-TE for implementation across rural US communities or, if culturally appropriate, more globally.

СРАВНИТЕЛЬНЫЙ АНАЛИЗ УРОВНЯ ИНФОРМИРОВАННОСТИ СТАРШЕКЛАССНИКОВ И СТУДЕНТОВ МЕДИЦИНСКОГО ВУЗА В ВОПРОСАХ СОЦИАЛЬНО-ЗНАЧИМЫХ ЗАБОЛЕВАНИЙ И ПРОФИЛАКТИКИ ИППП

As is known, the sexually transmitted infection (STI) incidence continues to be a pertinent issue: high contagiousness and negative impact on public health puts STIs on the list of socially significant diseases. The consequences of these diseases directly affect the demographic situation in the country, due to the deterioration of the reproductive health of the population with a subsequent decrease in the birth rate. This issue becomes especially pronounced among teenagers. This paper demonstrates the results of a study on socially significant diseases and STI prevention issues conducted among high school and medical students in Moscow with the aim of studying and identifying youth awareness problems, differentiating the knowledge of STI prevention among high school and college students, as well as determining respondents’ interest in getting information on these diseases online. Purpose: To study and identify problems of youth awareness, determine the difference in the knowledge of STI prevention among the high school and college students, as well as determine the interest of respondents in obtaining information on these diseases online. Materials and methods of research: The study includes the results of anonymous questionnaires filled out by schoolchildren of 15-17 years (115 respondents) and 3rd year students of the Faculty of Medicine (134 respondents). Research methods: analytical, statistical, sociological. Results: Based on the research data, we identified a difference in the answers of schoolchildren and college students in several types of questions. Thus, medical school students clearly appear as more mature, independent and busy people with more extensive knowledge on the given topics. The vast majority of respondents showed interest and wanted to obtain information on socially significant diseases and STI prevention. The best way to do so is to communicate comprehensive, high-quality knowledge of socially significant diseases and STI prevention using online technologies.

The Impacts of Undi 18 on Political Participation, Awareness and Readiness

The implementation of Undi18 on December 15, 2021, added an estimated 5.8 million new voters aged 18 and older to Malaysia's political landscape. While some see this as a timely move to introduce young people to civic responsibility and encourage active participation, others argue that 18-year-olds are too immature and have low awareness with only 29.03% of the youth participating in the political socialization domain. Consequently, it is crucial to assess the level of awareness and readiness among young people and their readiness to actively engage as voters. This study aimed to assess the level of youth awareness and readiness towards Undi18, examine the extent of their political participation, and analyse factors influencing their awareness and readiness. The study was conducted in Kuching, Sarikei, and Sri Aman, with 585 first-time voters aged 18 to 20 years surveyed via a questionnaire and 30 respondents in focus group discussions. The study found that parental involvement, political experience, social media exposure, educational exposure, and perception of and relationships with politicians were the five main factors influencing youth political participation and awareness and readiness towards Undi18. Geographical factors did not affect the level of awareness and readiness regarding Undi18. Despite the majority of respondents being aware of Undi18 and ready to participate as voters, a significant number were not prepared for higher forms of political participation.

An assessment of youth’s understanding on sexual and reproductive health rights in traditional authority Malili in Lilongwe

The study was conducted with an aim of assessing youth’s understanding on Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights in Traditional Authority Malili in Lilongwe in Malawi. The study has used a descriptive research design mainly to describe the characteristics of the youth awareness on Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights issues. Nevertheless, the study has found existing knowledge gaps on Family Planning, Sexually Transmitted Infections and Reproductive Sexual Autonomy. Additionally, the research discovered barriers that affect the demand and access of Sexual and Reproductive Health Services among the youth. The study results strongly suggest that Malawi should not continue doing business as usual as far as Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights for youth is concerned. The study recommends addressing the disconnect between policy articulation and policy implementation; recruiting more health staff and creating more capacity building opportunities for SRH providers; creating more supportive environments in the homes for youth to dialogue with their parents on ASRH issues and creation of more safety avenues for the youth to express their sexuality such as youth groups and strengthen income generating activities for out of school youth and creating synergies among stakeholders to avoid retrogressive duplication in ASRHR programming.
