Perioperative Analgesic Efficacy of Yamamoto New Scalp Acupuncture for Canine Mastectomy Combined with Ovariohysterectomy: a Randomized, Controlled Clinical Trial.

Yamamoto New Scalp Acupuncture (YNSA) is a therapy based on the stimulation of points on the scalp and applied to treat different states of pain. To investigate the analgesic efficacy of YNSA for dogs undergoing radical unilateral mastectomy with ovariohysterectomy. Twenty-four dogs were randomly distributed into two treatments (n = 12, per group): bilateral stimulation of basic B, D, and E points (YNSA group) and no application of acupuncture (control group). All dogs were sedated with morphine; anesthesia was induced with propofol and maintained with isoflurane. Fentanyl was intraoperatively administered to control cardiovascular responses to surgical stimulation. Postoperative pain was assessed using an interactive visual analog scale (IVAS) and the short-form of the Glasgow Composite Pain Scale (CMPS-SF). Morphine was administered as rescue analgesia. Data were analyzed using t-tests, Fisher's exact test, Mann-Whitney U test, and Friedman test (p < 0.05). Intraoperatively, the number of dogs requiring supplemental analgesic and the number of doses of fentanyl were lower in the YNSA group than in the control group (p = 0.027-0.034). The IVAS pain scores recorded from 0.5 h to 1 h post-extubation in the YNSA group were lower than those in the control group (p = 0.021-0.023). Postoperative rescue analgesia and CMPS-SF pain scores did not differ between the groups. YNSA decreases intraoperative fentanyl requirements and provides minimal postoperative analgesic benefits to dogs undergoing unilateral mastectomy with ovariohysterectomy.

Hypertension can hinder the development of social and economic stability and can become a major threat to the structure of healthcare services. The management of hypertension cases in primary care can be performed through a family medicine approach by taking into account the potential of the family as the supporting resource and/or obstacles to the successful management of hypertension patients. This can be performed with acupuncture methods, one of which is the Yamamoto New Scalp Acupuncture (YNSA) method. Objective: To determine the effect of acupuncture therapy using YNSA method on lowering the blood pressure of patients with hypertension at the Primary Care Service Family Medicine Clinic "XYZ, Jakarta." Methods: This quantitative research uses pre-experimental and post-experimental nonrandom purposive sampling techniques which yield a total sample of 76 respondents. The sample has met certain criteria and is divided into 2 groups: the intervention group and the control group. The assessment was carried out for 7 days for each group. Conclusion: The use of the YNSA method for patients with hypertension in the two groups had significantly different results during pre- and post-treatment with p &lt; 0.05. This shows that there is a significant difference in the two groups from the second to the seventh days.

Electro-Scalp Acupuncture Reduce Elder Dementia Rate In Aisyiyah Nursing Home Of Surakarta

ABSTRACT&#x0D; Background: Alzheimer’s Diseases International predicts that the number of elderly people with dependency will increase from 101 million to 277 million in 2050, including Indonesia which is estimated to have one million people. Meanwhile WHO in 2020 reports, worldwide, around 50 million people suffer from dementia, and there are nearly 10 million new cases every year. Elderly people with dependency such as dementia requires personal care with more time and supervision, all of these relate to the burden of nurses and the higher costs. The example of the solution that problem is acupuncture treatment for dementia. Acupuncture research in Alzheimer's cases, including a decrease cognitive level or dementia, acupuncture can improve verbal, motor, cognitive abilities, and mood. But until now acupuncture is still very rarely used for this case. The aim this research is to determine the effect of stimulation on Skin, Connective tissue, Aponeurosis, Loose areolar, Pericranium (SCALP) acupuncture with electro stimulation on reduce elder dementia rate in Aisyiyah Nursing Home of Surakarta.&#x0D; Methods: The study was conducted at Aisyiyah Nursing Home of Surakarta for 2 months. Dementia rate measured with Mental Mini State Examination (MMSE) and analyze with a cross-sectional approach and with a one-group pretest-posttest research design. There are 15 elderly people as research subjects, using purposive sampling techniques. Needle insertion in this research performed at the Brain point Yamamoto New SCALP Acupuncture (YNSA).&#x0D; Results: The average age of the elderly in Aisyiyah Nursing Home of Surakarta is 72.4 years and has a risk of cognitive decline or dementia. The average of dementia rate measured with Mental Mini State Examination (MMSE) scores before treatment was 21 (dementia) and the average of MMSE score after treatment was 26.3 (normal category). Paired T-test was obtained p &lt;0.05 which means there is an influence of SCALP Acupuncture with electro stimulation on reduce elder dementia rate.&#x0D; Conclusion: There is an effect of the procedure of SCALP acupuncture with electrostimulation therapy to reduce elder dementia rate which is marked by an increase in the value of MMSE score after therapy.

Safety of Yamamoto New Scalp Acupuncture in Healthy Subjects and the Relationship Between Shoulder Stiffness, Diagnosis Points, and Stimulation Points

Yamamoto New Scalp Acupuncture (YNSA) has been used in clinical practice for pain symptoms worldwide. However, the safety of YNSA and the role of the diagnosis and stimulation points have never been investigated. This study aimed to investigate the safety of YNSA and the relationship between the diagnosis points, the stimulation points, and changes in shoulder stiffness. YNSA was performed at the shoulder point A, acupuncture at the non-shoulder point D, and no intervention as a control in 15 healthy participants three times with a washout period of 1 week. Adverse reactions (changes in blood pressure, changes in heart rate, or bleeding), objective evaluation of the pressure pain threshold (PPT) and muscle hardness (MH) scores at the shoulder, and subjective evaluation of shoulder stiffness with a visual analog scale (VAS) were recorded before, during, and 20 min after stimulation. In the safety evaluation, no adverse reactions such as hypotension, bradycardia, or bleeding/hematoma were observed. PPT and MH revealed no significant difference between the conditions. There was a significant difference in the VAS between all three conditions (p = 0.039). Post-hoc analysis showed a significant difference between controls and D-point stimulation (p = 0.034), but no significant difference between A- and D-point stimulation. VAS subanalysis and post-hoc analysis in right-LI4-positive subjects (n = 4) showed a significant difference in VAS between A-point stimulation and controls (p = 0.01, 0.015, respectively). Our pilot investigation exhibited the safety of YNSA. Diagnosis and stimulation points may relate to changes in shoulder stiffness; however, further comparative studies with YNSA are required.

Effect Acupuncture for Low Back Pain; Biochemical and Protein Profile Analysis

Low back pain (LBP) is one of the common symptoms experienced by some of the world community. Acupuncture as a method of healing a disease offers a solution for LBP symptom. This study aimed to determine the effect of acupuncture with local and Yamamoto New Scalp Acupuncture (YNSA) points with biochemical analysis related to total protein, albumin, and globulin, and analysis of blood serum protein profiles using the SDS-PAGE method. This research was conducted using sterile acupuncture needles that inserted in patients with several local points, namely BL22 (Sanjiaoshu), BL23 (Shenshu), BL24 (Qihaishu), BL25C (Dachangshu), and BL26C (Guanyuanshu) and combined with the YNSA points through somatotope D points and extra lumbar points H and I. Blood serum was collected for total protein, albumin, and globulin analysis. That blood serum was also used for protein profile analysis using Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate Polyacrylamide Gel Electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) method. The results showed that six times of acupuncture treatments gave positive correlation in total protein, albumin, and globulin. Analysis of blood serum protein profiles using SDS-PAGE showed a protein band of about 12 KDa and it might be a interleukin-13 protein. The results were expected can be useful as scientific information especially related to acupuncture for LBP treatment and this of about 12 KDa protein band can be used as biomarker candidates for the symptoms.

Repercussões da nova craniopuntura de yamamoto na dor e qualidade de vida de profissionais de saúde

Objetivo: Descrever as repercussões da Nova Craniopuntura de Yamamoto (YNSA) na dor e qualidade de vida de profissionais de saúde. Métodos: Estudo do tipo antes e depois, com profissionais de saúde de uma Estratégia de Saúde da Famí­lia, que possuí­am dores crônicas. Utilizou-se o instrumento WHOQOL-BREF para avaliar a qualidade de vida antes do iní­cio e após o término do tratamento com a YNSA, realizado em um perí­odo de 4 semanas. Resultados: Obteve-se melhora estatí­stica dos domí­nios psicológico, ambientais, de dor, das questões 1 e 2 e do resultado final da qualidade de vida, com destaque para o domí­nio fí­sico (p=0.009). Conclusão: Após o tratamento de YNSA foi possí­vel observar diminuição significativa da dor. Em virtude da melhora da dor também foi possí­vel observar e comprovar a melhora dos domí­nios que compõem a qualidade de vida.

ObjectiveTo evaluate the analgesic efficacy of Yamamoto New Scalp Acupuncture (YNSA) as an adjuvant for postoperative pain management in cats. Study designProspective, randomized, blinded, clinical study. AnimalsTwenty cats aged (mean ± standard deviation) 25 ± 9 months and weighing 2.7 ± 0.6 kg undergoing ovariohysterectomy. MethodsThe cats were sedated with intramuscular (IM) ketamine (5 mg kg−1), midazolam (0.5 mg kg−1) and tramadol (2 mg kg−1). The cats were randomly distributed before induction of anesthesia into two groups of 10 cats each: group YNSA, in which bilateral basic D points were stimulated with a dry needle from 20 minutes prior to anesthetic induction to the end of the surgery; group Control, in which no acupuncture was applied. Postoperative analgesia was assessed at 1, 2, 4, 8, 12, 18 and 24 hours postextubation using an Interactive Visual Analog Scale and Universidade Estadual Paulista-Botucatu Multidimensional Composite Pain Scale (UNESP-Botucatu MCPS). Rescue analgesia was provided with IM tramadol (2 mg kg−1), and the pain scores were reassessed 30 minutes after rescue intervention. If the analgesia remained insufficient, meloxicam (0.2 mg kg−1 as a single dose) was administered IM. Data were analyzed using Student t-test, Fisher exact test, Mann–Whitney U test and Friedman test (p < 0.05). ResultsSignificantly lower pain scores were observed in YNSA when compared with Control at 1–4 hours based on the UNESP-Botucatu MCPS scores. Although significant differences were not identified between groups requiring rescue analgesia, additional postoperative analgesia was administered to four of 10 cats in Control and no cats in YNSA. Conclusion and clinical relevancePerioperative YNSA resulted in decreased pain scores and a reduction in postoperative requirement for rescue analgesia in cats. This method should be considered a viable option as an adjuvant analgesic therapy for cats undergoing ovariohysterectomy.

Abstract Introduction : Low Back pain affects a large part of the population and represents a major socioeconomic problem. There are many resources for treatment of this symptom, among them: acupuncture and aquatic therapy. Objective : To compare the effects of an aquatic physical therapy program (AI CHI) and Yamamoto New Scalp Acupuncture (YNSA) in pain intensity and functionality in patients with chronic low back pain. Material and methods : a clinical trial with a randomized sample. Sixty six individuals with chronic low back pain, of both genders were selected, however 44 individuals completed the study. The individuals were divided into three groups AI CHI (n = 15), YNSA (n = 15) and Control (n = 14). Ten 10 interventions with a program of aquatic therapy method (Ai Chi) and Yamamoto New Scalp Acupuncture (YNSA), were made, twice a week. The control group received the intervention only after the end of the study. Pain intensity was assessed by a visual analogue scale (VAS) and the functional capacity by Owestry functionality Index. Results : There was significant reduction in pain and improvement in functional capacity (p &lt; 0.05) in YNSA and AI CHI and when compared to the control group. Conclusion : It was concluded that the YNSA and AI CHI were effective in reducing pain and improving the functionality of the lumbar spine in patients with chronic low back pain.

Efficacy of Yamamoto New Scalp Acupuncture Versus Traditional Chinese Acupuncture for Migraine Treatment

Traditional Chinese acupuncture (TCA) is an effective alternative treatment in migraine headache. The aim of this study was to compare the therapeutic effect of Yamamoto new scalp acupuncture (YNSA), a recently developed microcupuncture system, with TCA for the prophylaxis and treatment of migraine headache. In a randomized clinical trial, 80 patients with migraine headache were assigned to receive YNSA or TCA. A pain visual analogue scale (VAS) and migraine therapy assessment questionnaire (MTAQ) were completed before treatment, after 6 and 18 sections of treatment, and 1 month after completion of therapy. All the recruited patients completed the study. Baseline characteristics were similar between the two groups. Frequency and severity of migraine attacks, nausea, the need for rescue treatment, and work absence rate decreased similarly in both groups. Recovery from headache and ability to continue daily activities 2 hours after medical treatment showed similar improvement in both groups (p>0.05). Classic acupuncture and YNSA are similarly effective in the prophylaxis and treatment of migraine headache and may be considered as alternatives to pharmacotherapy.

The Role of Scalp Acupuncture for Relieving the Chronic Pain of Degenerative Osteoarthritis: A Pilot Study of Egyptian Women.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a common chronic and painful condition secondary to deterioration of cartilage. OA-related pain can be managed pharmacologically together with complementary therapies, such as acupuncture. The aim of this trial was to evaluate the effectiveness of Yamamoto New Scalp Acupuncture (YNSA) for relieving pain associated with OA in Egyptian women. At the Female Outpatient Pain Clinic, of the National Research Centre, in Cairo, Egypt, between March 2008 and June 2009, 30 females (ages 27-80) presenting with chronic pain caused by OA were studied. The affected YNSA points were treated for 20 minutes in a single session. Pain was assessed by a visual analogue scale (VAS) prior to, and 1 hour after, the intervention. PREINTERVENTION VAS SCORES WERE: 3-10 (mean 7.43±1.9; P>0.05). Postintervention VAS scores ranged from 0 to 8 (mean 3.37±2.1) with a statistically significant positive correlation between these scores and pretreatment values (P=0.01). Postintervention VAS scores were significantly related to pain locations. Post-hoc analysis showed statistically significant lower postintervention VAS scores for cervical OA, compared to those of lumbosacral OA. YNSA acupuncture is effective in immediate pain relief among females suffering from degenerative OA.

Rehabilitation of Stroke Patients Using Yamamoto New Scalp Acupuncture: A Pilot Study

The aim of this study was to investigate whether acupuncture, especially Yamamoto's New Scalp Acupuncture (YNSA), is of value in additional to standard poststroke motor rehabilitation. A prospective, assessor-blinded randomized control trial was carried out in an inpatient stroke rehabilitation unit with day hospital service. After inclusion, patients were stratified into control group and acupuncture group, randomly. The Barthel Index, the Rivermead Scale Index, and the Visual Analogue Scale were used to follow the efficacy of treatment. In the acupuncture group, all the sensory, motor, and functional scores improved significantly during the examination period until 2 years after injury. The Barthel Index is increased from 4±2 to 95±4 in the acupuncture group. This index also increased in the control group (from 4±2 to 75±4), but the changes were significantly less than in the acupuncture group. A significant spontaneous recovery during the 2-year follow-up was found, but the YNSA treatment facilitated the functional recovery. Improved moving function and more flexible joints and ligaments were observed in comparison to the patients' condition prior to treatment. The data suggest that the YNSA is a useful method to treat stroke patients and enhance their quality of life.

Use of Yamamoto New Scalp Acupuncture for Treatment of Chronic, Severe Phantom Leg Pain

Abstract Background: Phantom limb pain (PLP) occurs in up to 85% of patients who have amputations and significantly worsens their quality of life. PLP is extremely difficult to treat, and common pain treatment is rarely effective. This case report describes the use of Yamamoto New Scalp Acupuncture (YNSA) to treat chronic severe PLP. Case: A 59-year-old man presented to an outpatient pain clinic with a chief complaint of chronic severe PLP after the left-femoral lower-third amputation that he had 21 years before. Intervention: YNSA was performed on the points representing the cranial nerves. Main Outcome Measures: PLP intensity, duration, and frequency were monitored to determine if the patient gained any pain relief from YNSA. Results: During the week after the thirteenth YNSA session, the patient reported a decrease in PLP intensity from 9±1 before the treatment to ∼1 or no PLP at all. Cortical Activation by Yamamoto New Scalp Acupuncture in the Treatment of Patients with a Stroke: A Sham-Controlled Study Using Functional Mri

Yamamoto new scalp acupuncture (YNSA) was first introduced 37 years ago.1 Today, it is the most frequently used microsystem in acupuncture next to auriculotherapy. Benefits associated with YNSA have been shown in uncontrolled studies in patients after stroke,2 in patients with musculoskeletal pain3 4 and in emergency medicine.5 In the Western world stroke is still the leading cause of disability in adults, often in the form of hemiparesis. The goal of this study was to correlate the effect of YNSA in patients with hemiparetic stroke to cortical activation visualised by functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI)6. The neurological correlates of YNSA were studied in 17 patients with ischaemic stroke in the right hemisphere who had residual paresis of the left hand, and in 19 healthy volunteers. A new acupuncture needle for MRI developed by Schockert was used in this study. Similar to the principle of an indwelling venous cannula, the needle is positioned in the acupoint, the steel cylinder removed and the remaining plastic part is fixed in the acupoint by a plaster. Treatment of Neck Pain Using Yamamoto New Scalp Acupuncture (YNSA)

Background: Cervical pain can be defined as a painful condition of the upper region of the spinal column affecting the neck and shoulders. The conservative treatment for uncomplicated neck pain includes physical and pharmacological measures, together with the provision of advice and manual treatment such as mobilization and manipulation. Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of scalp acupuncture in the treatment of neck pain. Design and Setting: We studied patients with neck pain between June 2007 and January 2008 at Pain Service, San Luca Hospital, Trecenta (Rovigo), Italy. A prospective questionnaire using a visual analog scale (VAS) and the Present Pain Index (PPI) was administered. Patients: We treated 46 patients (29 women and 17 men) with neck pain. Among them were 25 patients with osteoarthritis diagnosed by radiological examination and 21 patients with myofascial pain syndrome. Intervention: Patients were treated with only 1 session of Yamamoto New Scalp Acupuncture (YNSA) in the Basic Points A 1–7. Main Outcome Measures: Level of pain at 30 minutes after the session, evaluated with the VAS and PPI. Results: The degree of reduction of pain was 71% when evaluated with the VAS and 80% with PPI. Conclusions: YNSA acupuncture was effective in the reduction of neck pain for this group of patients, with only 1 needle in a single session.

Background Stuttering in childhood is a well-known and common problem which responds well to logopedic treatment. If the opportunity for speech therapy is missed or turns out a failure, stuttering will remain a constant problem for adults, reducing quality of life and lacking possibilities to cure. Objective In this case report of a 34 year-old woman who has stuttered since childhood it will be discussed if acupuncture can sufficiently improve this speech impairment. Methods In literature, there are only a few reports of successful treatment of stuttering in adults. In this case report, classic TCM acupuncture was administered in combination with Japanese Yamamoto's New Scalp Acupuncture (YNSA). Results For professional reasons, the patient had to take an oral test which would have been an impossible task before acupuncture. After 25 sessions of acupuncture once a week she underwent her exam and passed with almost no speech difficulties. On the visual analogue scale (from 0 to 10) she showed improvement of more then 70 percent (8,0 before acupuncture, 2,8 afterwards). Conclusions Stuttering in adulthood is a rare, but grave problem. In this individual case, acupuncture administered according to the tenets of TCM in combination with YNSA could improve the condition and subsequently, the patient's quality of life.

ABSTRACT Background: A specific point was discovered with Yamamoto New Scalp Acupuncture (YNSA) that was sensitive to touch in women of various ages with diverse hormonal problems. Needling this point showed improvement in cases involving disturbances of female hormonal systems. This point was named the ZS point (Zeise-Suess Point), and was accepted by Dr Toshikatsu Yamamoto. Background The risk of developing a postherpetic neuralgia increases with a patient's age. As conventional therapies mostly do not bring satisfactory results, and as there is a considerable danger of pharmacological interactions especially in elderly, multi-morbid patients, new therapeutic options for treating neuralgic pain are in high demand. Based on a case example, two specialists discuss the possibilities of using acupuncture and related techniques in elderly patients. Objective Pain reduction in general, nocturnal pain reduction to improve sleep and quality of life, to reduce the need of analgetic drugs in order to avoid side effects on the gastrointestinal tract. Methods 10 treatments once a week, needle acupuncture after TCM-criteria plus micro systems acupuncture like YNSA (Yamamoto New Scalp Acupuncture), and a 12 mW Softlaser. Results Only slow improvements initially, but an overall satisfactory result after the ninth treatment session with a pain-free interval of almost one year. After 5 years, therapy had to be re-initialized, again leading to a good result within 10 weeks of treatment (reduction of pain intensity from VAS 8.2 to VAS 1.3). Discussion While receiving the first treatment series, the patient was almost eighty years old and eighty-five while receiving the second treatment series. In spite of the patient's old age, which is often held to lessen the effect of acupuncture, both treatment series were able to produce satisfactory results.

La nueva acupuntura craneal de Yamamoto (YNSA) como alternativa terapéutica para la sordera neurosensorial crónica y el tinnitus crónico acompañados de síndrome cervical

Yamamoto New Scalp Acupuncture (YNSA) is a good therapeutic option for chronic sensorineural hearing loss and chronic tinnitus, especially when a coexisting cervical spine syndrome is considered to be important for the therapy. This is demonstrated in four case studies.
