Er:YAG ring laser with high-energy and wide pulse duration, which is resonantly pumped by a fiber laser at 1532 nm, is reported in this paper. Maximum power 2.62 W was implemented from ring resonator at 1645 nm. By transforming pulse repetition frequency (PRF), pulsed output energy was 4.08 mJ under 100 Hz PRF with a pulse width of 0.976 μs under the Q-switching regime. Since the wind measurement accuracy of coherent wind lidar is determined by the pulse width of the emission laser, this 1.6 µm single-frequency laser with high energy and wide pulse width is an ideal laser source for coherent wind lidar.
