ABSTRACTA simplified system has been designed for the operation of stand-alone doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) employing a single inverter control scheme for wind energy electric conversion system to supply isolated loads. By varying the rotor input voltage and frequency of the DFIG, the magnitude and frequency of the voltage at stator terminals can be maintained constant over a wide range of speed. The excitation of rotor is established using a single inverter of sinusoidal pulse width modulation (SPWM) type connected at the rotor terminals which is achieved by varying the modulation index (MI) and modulating frequency (MF) of the SPWM pulses given to the inverter. Altium Nanoboard, which inherently has XILINX SPARTAN 3AN FPGA on it, has been employed for generation of such variable MI and MF SPWM pulses and also to update the parameters in the display through its embedded interface. The dynamic and steady-state results show that the controller maintains constant voltage and frequency at the stator terminal during change in speed or load.
