Symmetric Refunctionalization of Diaminodinitropyrazine with Hydrazine and Aminotetrazole: Strategy for Enhancing Detonation Performance and Safety in Energetic Materials.

Two novel nitrogen-rich green energetic compounds were synthesized for the first time from readily available and cost-effective pyrazine starting materials. All newly synthesized molecules were comprehensively characterized, including infrared spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance, elemental analysis, mass spectrometry, and thermogravimetric analysis-differential scanning calorimetry. All compounds have additionally been validated by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The physicochemical properties of compounds 2, 4, and 5 were thoroughly investigated. Notably, all compounds exhibit remarkable performance, such as a high density (>1.84 g cm-3), excellent detonation properties (VOD > 8582 m s-1, and DP > 31.3 GPa), outstanding thermostability (>205 °C), and high insensitivity (IS > 35 J, and FS = 360 N). These attributes are quite comparable to those of secondary benchmark explosives such as TATB, RDX, LLM-105, and FOX-7. This tuned performance evidences that the incorporation of hydrazine, nitro, and aminotetrazole into the pyrazine framework fosters robust nonbonded interactions, ultimately enhancing thermal stability and reducing sensitivity. The findings of this study not only signify that compounds 2 and 5 have excellent detonation properties and stability but also prove that the strategy of replacing amino groups with hydrazine and aminotetrazole is a practical means of developing new insensitive energetic materials.

Xylose Incorporated in Unsymmetrical Gold(I) N-Heterocyclic Carbene Complexes: Synthesis, Characterization and Antibacterial Activity.

A series of Au(I) complexes containing unsymmetrical N-heterocyclic carbene (imidazolylidene and benzimidazolylidene) functionalized with a xyloside group and an alkyl moiety (methyl and mesityl) was prepared using efficient procedures from D-xylose. Their characterization was carried out in solution by multinuclear NMR, HR-MS spectrometry and cyclic voltammetry, as well as in the solid state by means of single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis for two of them. Evaluation of their ability to inhibit bacterial growth showed a preference for a Gram-positive strain, Staphylococcus aureus, over a Gram-negative strain, Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

Paracetamol Inclusion in Mechanically Interlocked Nanocages.

The solid-state synthesis and fast crystallization under kinetic control of poly-[n]-catenanes self-assembled of mechanically interlocked metal organic cages (MOCs) is virtually unexplored. This is in part, due to the lack of suitable crystals for single crystal X-ray diffraction (SC-XRD) analysis which limits their progress as advanced functional materials. Here we report the unprecedented inclusion of paracetamol in the cavities of amorphous materials constituted of M12L8, interlocked MOCs synthesized by mechanochemistry under kinetic control. Full structure determination of a low-crystallinity and low-resolution powders of the M12L8 poly-[n]-catenane including paracetamol has been carried out combining XRD data and Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations using a multi-step approach. Each M12L8 cage contains six paracetamol guests which is confirmed by thermal analysis and NMR spectroscopy. The paracetamol loading has been also carried out by the instant synthesis method using a saturated paracetamol solution in which TPB and ZnI2 self-assemble immediately (i. e., 1-5 seconds) encapsulating ~7 paracetamol molecules in the M12L8 nanocages under kinetic control also giving a good selectivity. Benzaldehyde has been included in the M12L8 cages using amorphous M12L8 polycatenanes showing that the icosahedral cages can serve as potential nanoreactors for instance to study Henry reactions in the solid-state.

Porous Supramolecular Crystalline Probe that Detects Non-Covalent Interactions Involved in Molecular Recognition of Furanic Compounds.

Selective separation and conversion of furan-based biomass-derived compounds, which are closely related to biorefineries, is currently an important issue. To improve their performance, it is important to deepen the understanding of non-covalent interactions that act on the molecular recognition of furanic compounds on separation or catalyst matrices. Here, a new method is reported to comprehensively visualize such intermolecular interactions using a porous supramolecular crystalline probe with polar and non-polar binding sites within a low-symmetric nanochannel consisting of four isomeric PdII 3-macrocycles. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis of the crystals including 5-hydroxymethylfurfural, furfural, furfuryl alcohol, or 2-acetylfuran reveals a variety of interactions involving their furan rings and polar substituents. It is also found that cooperative and competitive effects between guest and solvent molecules significantly change their recognition mode.

Cooperative Binding and Chirogenesis in an Expanded Perylene Bisimide Cyclophane.

The encapsulation of more than one guest molecule into a synthetic cavity is a highly desirable yet a highly challenging task to achieve for neutral supramolecular hosts in organic media. Herein, we report a neutral perylene bisimide cyclophane, which has a tailored chiral cavity with an interchromophoric distance of 11.2 Å, capable of binding two aromatic guests in a π-stacked fashion. Detailed host-guest binding studies with a series of aromatic guests revealed that the encapsulation of the second guest in this cyclophane is notably more favored than the first one. Accordingly, for the encapsulation of the coronene dimer, a cooperativity factor (α) as high as 485 was observed, which is remarkably high for neutral host-guest systems. Furthermore, a successful chirality transfer, from the chiral host to encapsulated coronenes, resulted in a chiral charge-transfer (CT) complex and the rare observation of circularly polarized emission originating from the CT state for a noncovalent donor-acceptor assembly in solution. The involvement of the CT state also afforded an enhancement in the luminescence dissymmetry factor (glum) value due to its relatively large magnetic transition dipole moment. The 1:2 binding pattern and chirality-transfer were unambiguously verified by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis of the host-guest superstructures.

Triflic acid-promoted Friedel–Crafts-type carbocyclization of alkenylated biphenyl derivatives: Synthesis and photophysical studies of novel 9,10-dihydrophenanthrenes

An efficient metal-free, triflic acid-promoted intramolecular Friedel–Crafts-type carbocyclization of alkenylated biphenyl derivatives is discussed. This method provides an elegant route for the construction of 9,10-dihydrophenanthrenes of biological significance in good to excellent yields. The carbocyclization reaction is likely to proceeds via activation of terminal CC bond of alkenylated biphenyl derivatives followed by subsequent aromatic electrophilic substitution to give desired carbocyclic products. Single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis of compound 10d revealed that the crystals are packed in AB-AB layer packing, where the molecules are aligned in anti-parallel fashion. Notably, all of the synthesized 9,10-dihydrophenanthrenes exhibited blue to greenish yellow fluorescence with λmax = 418–481 nm range. The stokes shift, quantum yield and optical band gap of tricyclic products were computed using their absorption and emission spectra. A significant positive solvatochromic effect was observed for 9,10-dihydrophenanthrene derivative 10l, which is a characteristic of ICT interactions.

Wheldone Revisited: Structure Revision Via DFT-GIAO Chemical Shift Calculations, 1,1-HD-ADEQUATE NMR Spectroscopy, and X-ray Crystallography Studies.

Wheldone is a fungal metabolite isolated from the coculture of Aspergillus fischeri and Xylaria flabelliformis, displaying cytotoxic activity against breast, melanoma, and ovarian cancer cell lines. Initially, its structure was characterized as an unusual 5-methyl-bicyclo[5.4.0]undeca-3,5-diene scaffold with a 2-hydroxy-1-propanone side chain and a 3-(2-(1-hydroxyethyl)-2-methyl-2,5-dihydrofuran-3-yl)acrylic acid moiety. Upon further examination, minor inconsistencies in the data suggested the need for the structure to be revisited. Thus, the structure of wheldone has been revised using an orthogonal experimental-computational approach, which combines 1,1-HD-ADEQUATE NMR experiments, DFT-GIAO chemical shift calculations, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction (SCXRD) analysis of a semisynthetic p-bromobenzylamide derivative, formed via a Steglich-type reaction. The summation of these data now permits the unequivocal assignment of both the structure and absolute configuration of the natural product.

Ultraviolet Nonlinear Optical Single Crystals of A Three-Dimensional Chiral Covalent Framework Containing Te-O-B-O Bonds.

Extending covalent organic frameworks (COFs) into crystalline carbon-free covalent backbones is an important strategy to endow these materials with more exotic functions. Integrating metal-free inorganic and organic components into one covalent framework is an effective way to address the issue of poor thermal/solvent stability in the field of nonlinear optics (NLO). However, constructing such structures is very challenging. Here, we linked 3-connected nods (BO3) and 2-connected organic building blocks (Te(Ph)2) together to produce colorless single crystals (size up to 400 µm) of a three-dimensional (3D) chiral covalent framework (CityU-22). The single-crystal X-ray diffraction (SCXRD) analysis reveals that CityU-22 has a non-carbon Te-O-B-O bond-based network with the srs topology. The chiral CityU-22 displays good stability under the treatment of different common solvents or heat (the decomposition temperature above 300 °C). Due to its non-π-conjugated backbone (-Te-O-B-O-), CityU-22 shows an ultraviolet NLO behavior with a second-harmonic generation (SHG) response similar to KH2PO4 (KDP).

Structure-Activity Relationships of the Structural Analogs Au8Cu1 and Au8Ag1 in the Electrocatalytic CO2 Reduction Reaction.

Owing to the significant attention directed toward alloy metal nanoclusters, it is crucial to explore the relationship between their structures and their performance during the electrocatalytic CO2 reduction reaction (eCO2RR) and discover potential synergistic effects for the design of novel functional nanoclusters. However, a lack of suitable analogs makes this investigation challenging. In this study, we synthesized a well-defined pair of structural analogs, [Au8Cu1(SAdm)4(Dppm)3Cl]2+ and [Au8Ag1(SAdm)4(Dppm)3Cl]2+ (Au8Cu1 and Au8Ag1, respectively), and characterized them. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis revealed that Au8M1 (M=Cu/Ag) consists of a tetrahedral Au3M1 core capped by three (Dppm)Au staples, one Au2(SR)3 staple, one lone SR ligand, and a terminal Cl ligand. Ag and Cu were doped at the same site in the Au8M1 nanoclusters, which has rarely been reported. Au8Cu1 exhibited a significantly higher CO Faradaic efficiency (FECO; ~82.2 %) during eCO2RR than that of Au8Ag1 (FECO; ~33.1 %). Density functional theory calculations demonstrated that *COOH is the key intermediate in the reduction of CO2 to CO. The formation of *COOH on Au8Cu1 is more thermodynamically stable than on Au8Ag1, and Au8Cu1 shows a smaller *CO formation energy than that on Au8Ag1, which promotes the reduction of CO2. We believe that the structural analogs Au8Cu1 and Au8Ag1 offer a suitable template for the in-depth investigation of structure-property correlations at the atomic level.

Guaianolide sesquiterpene lactones from Cichorium glandulosum and their anti-neuroinflammation activities

Eight undescribed guaianolide sesquiterpene lactones cicholosumins A-H and twelve known ones were isolated from the aerial parts of Cichorium glandulosum Boiss et Huet. Their structures were established by 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopic data, electronic circular dichroism, quantum chemical calculations and single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Compounds 9α-hydroxy-3-deoxyzaluzanin C, epi-8α-angeloyloxycichoralexin, 8-O-methylsenecioylaustricin and lactucin showed strong anti-neuroinflammation activity with IC50 values of 1.69 ± 0.11, 1.08 ± 0.23, 1.67 ± 0.28 and 1.82 ± 0.27 μM, respectively. The mechanism research indicated that epi-8α-angeloyloxycichoralexin inhibited neuroinflammation through the NF-κB and MAPK pathways.

N-Confused strapped calix[4]pyrrole: the missing member of calix[4]pyrrole chemistry.

The first example of N-confused strapped calix[4]pyrrole 5 is presented. The structural integrity of 5 and its regular isomer 4 was unambiguously confirmed by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Anion binding studies using 1H NMR titration carried out in CDCl3 revealed a small but detectable tendency of 5 to interact with an anion. Conversely, the isomeric regular strapped calix[4]pyrrole 4 displayed high selectivity for fluoride anions under similar experimental conditions. The high fluoride selectivity of 4 and unexpectedly low anion affinity of 5 were ascribed to the presence of intramolecular hydrogen bonds within strapping subunits.

Fluorinated high-valent Sn(IV) porphyrins show remarkable photodynamic activity in cancer cells.

In recent years, Sn(IV) porphyrins have proven to be excellent choice as photosensitizers for photodynamic therapy. This work reports the synthesis, characterization and photodynamic activity of four high-valent fluorinated Sn(IV) porphyrins having different numbers of F-atoms in the peripheral of meso-phenyl groups viz. (Dichloro)meso-tetrakis(4-fluorophenylporphyrinato)stannic(IV), [Sn(IV)FTPP(Cl)2] or Sn1; (Dichloro)meso-tetrakis(2,4-difluorophenylporphyrinato)stannic(IV), [Sn(IV)2,4-FTPP(Cl)2] or Sn2; (Dichloro)meso-tetrakis(2,6-difluorophenylporphyrinato)stannic(IV), [Sn(IV)2,6-FTPP(Cl)2] or Sn3 and (Dichloro)meso-tetrakis(4-trifluoromethylphenylporphyrinato)stannic(IV), [Sn(IV)CF3TPP(Cl)2] or Sn4. The solid-state structure of Sn1 has been determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The increasing number of F-atoms attached to the meso-phenyl positions of the porphyrin framework results in increase of their lipophilicity, singlet oxygen quantum yield (ΦΔ) and photocytotoxicity in A549 (human lung adenocarcinoma cells), MCF-7 and MDA-MB-231 (human breast adenocarcinoma) cells. Sn4 predominantly localize in the mitochondria of A549 cells. The light-induced cell death by the Sn(IV) porphyrins in A549 cells occur primarily via apoptosis.

Addition of diazonium salts to the coordinatively unsaturated core of a dinuclear organoruthenium complex

Abstract The reaction of [Ru2(CO)4(µ-H)(µ-PtBu2)(µ-Ph2PCH2PPh2)] (1) with the diazonium salts [PhN2]BF4 and [p-BrC6H4N2]BF4 in dichloromethane at T = 273 K was investigated. The oxidative addition afforded the products [Ru2(CO)4(µ-H)(µ-PtBu2)(µ-Ph2PCH2PPh2)(µ-N2Ph)]BF4 (2a) and [Ru2(CO)4(µ-H)(µ-PtBu2)(µ-Ph2PCH2PPh2)(µ-N2C6H4-p-Br)]BF4 (2b) in good yields. The products have been characterized by NMR and IR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry and the molecular structure of 2a has been determined by a single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis (monoclinic, space group P21/m, Z = 2).

1,2,4-Triazolo-quinazolinones as Effective Antifoulants: Molecular Design, Synthesis, and Biological Evaluation.

A series of 1,2,4-triazolo-quinazolinones and 1,2-benzisothiazolone derivatives (S1-S12) were successfully synthesized as environmentally friendly alternatives to copper-based antifouling paints using N-alkylation, cyclocondensation, and one-pot three-component and amide coupling reactions. The monoclinic structure of single-crystal 1,2,4-triazolo-quinazolin-acetic acid (S8) was confirmed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. All the synthesized molecules were studied for their in silico molecular docking interactions with three target proteins, namely, RbmA, ToxR, and Bap. Following that, the antialgal activity was assessed against two types of marine algae: Chlorella sp. and Chaetoceros curvisetus. The minimal inhibitory concentration and zone of inhibition have been used to evaluate the antibacterial activities of S1-S12 against both marine Gram-positive (Staphylococcus aureus) and Gram-negative (Vibrio parahemolyticus and Vibrio vulnificus) bacteria. Additionally, antifouling studies have been done on all the compounds, and among them, 1,2,4-triazolo-quinazolinyl-acetate (S7), 1,2,4-triazolo-quinazolinyl-acetic acid (S8), 1,2,4-triazolo-quinazolinyl-oxobutanoate (S9), benzo[d]isothiazolyl butanoate (S10), benzo[d]isothiazolyl-acetic acid (S11), and 1,2,4-triazolo-quinazolinyl-acetyl-benzo[d]isothiazolone (S12) exhibited good antialgal, antibacterial, and antifouling activities.

Crystal Structure of Bis(1-butyl-1-methypyrrolidinium) Perthiodicarbonate Complex

Bis(1-butyl-1-methypyrrolidinium) perthiodicarbonate was obtained by the reaction of carbon disulfide with 1-butyl-1-methypyrrolidinium acetate ([BmPyrro][Ac]) in the liquid phase. Structural characterization of this original complex was achieved by single-crystal X-ray diffraction (SCXRD) analysis. The asymmetric unit of the title compound, C2S6·2C9H20N, consisted of two crystallographically 1-methyl-1-butyl pyrrolidinium cations and one perthiodicarbonate anion. The complex C2S6·2C9H20N crystallized in the monoclinic space group, C 2/c, and possessed the following cell parameters: a = 16.0970(10) Å, b = 14.7140(9) Å, c = 12.3280(8) Å, α = 90°, β = 112.3730(12)°, γ = 90°, V = 2700.11 Å3, and Z = 8, Z’ = 0.5.

Antimicrobial Activity of Water-Soluble Silver Complexes Bearing C-Scorpionate Ligands.

The novel hydrosoluble silver coordination polymer [Ag(NO3)(μ-1κN;2κN',N″-TPMOH)]n (1) (TPMOH = tris(1H-pyrazol-1-yl)ethanol) was obtained and characterized. While single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis of compound 1 disclosed an infinite 1D helical chain structure in the solid state, NMR analysis in polar solvents confirmed the mononuclear nature of compound 1 in solution. Compound 1 and the analogue [Ag(μ-1κN;2κN',N″-TPMS)]n (2) (TPMS = tris(1H-pyrazol-1-yl)methane sulfonate) were evaluated with regard to their antimicrobial activities towards the Gram-negative Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Burkholderia contaminans, the Gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus, and the fungal species Candida albicans and Candida glabrata. Compound 1 exhibited minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) values ranging from 2 to 7.7 µg/mL towards the tested Gram-negative bacteria, 18 µg/mL towards the Gram-positive S. aureus, and 15 and 31 µg/mL towards C. albicans and C. glabrata, respectively. Compound 2 was less effective towards the tested bacteria, with MIC values ranging from 15 to 19.6 µg/mL towards the Gram-negative bacteria and 51 µg/mL towards S. aureus; however, it was more effective against C. albicans and C. glabrata, with MIC values of about 6 µg/mL towards these fungal species. The toxicity of compounds 1 and 2 was assessed by evaluating the survival of the Caenorhabditis elegans model organism to concentrations of up to 100 µg/mL. The value of 50% lethality (LD50) could only be estimated as 73.2 µg/mL for compound 1 at 72 h, otherwise LD50 was >100 µg/mL for both compounds 1 and 2. These results indicate compounds 1 and 2 as novel silver complexes with interesting antimicrobial properties towards bacterial and fungal pathogens.

Large Molecular Rotation in Crystal Changes the Course of a Topochemical Diels-Alder Reaction from a Predicted Polymerization to an Unexpected Intramolecular Cyclization.

A designed anthracene-based monomer for topochemical Diels-Alder cycloaddition polymerization crystallized with head-to-tail arrangement of molecules, as revealed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction (SCXRD) analysis. The diene and dienophile units of adjacent monomer molecules are aligned at an average distance of 4.6 Å, suggesting a favorable crystalline arrangement for their intermolecular Diels-Alder cycloaddition reaction to form a linear polymer . Surprisingly, heating the monomer crystals at a temperature above 125 °C resulted in the formation of intramolecular Diels-Alder cycloadduct, which could be characterized by various spectroscopy and SCXRD analysis. Various time-dependent studies such as NMR, PXRD, and DSC, studies established that the reaction followed topochemical pathway. Schmidt's topochemical postulates are generally used to predict the topochemical reactivity and product, by analyzing the crystal structure of the reactant. Though the crystal arrangement predicted polymerization, upon heating the molecule avoided this pathway by undergoing a large rotation to form an intramolecular cycloadduct.Theoretical calculations supported the feasibility of the rotation, exploiting the flexibility of the molecule and voids present. These findings caution that the reliance on Schmidt's criteria for topochemical reactions may sometimes be misleading, especially in heat-induced reactions.

Effect of Pyrrolidinedithiocarbamate Ligand on the Luminescence Properties of Heteroligand Samarium and Europium Complexes: Experimental and Theoretical Study.

The photophysical properties of two isostructural heteroligand lanthanide complexes of general formula Ln(pdtc)3(phen) (pdtc = pyrrolidinedithiocarbamate anion, phen = 1,10-phenanthroline), Ln = Sm3+ (1), Eu3+ (2)) were studied in solid state and dichloromethane (DCM) solution. The two lanthanide complexes were investigated by experimental techniques for structural (single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis of 1, powder XRD, TG-DTA) and spectroscopic [electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR), infrared (IR), ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis), photoluminescence (PL)] characterization. DFT/TDDFT/ωB97xD and multireference SA-CASSCF/NEVPT2 calculations with perturbative spin-orbit coupling corrections were applied to construct the Jablonski energy diagrams and to discuss the excited state energy transfer mechanism with competing excited state processes and possible sensitized mechanism of metal-centered emission. The first excited state (S1) involved in the excited state energy transfer L(antenna)-to-Ln was predicted to have interligand (pdtc-to-phen) charge transfer character in contrast to the previously predicted ligand-to-metal charge transfer character. The theoretical consideration showed similar relaxation paths and luminescence quenching channels and appropriate Donor*(phen)-Acceptor*(Ln3+) energy gap for 1 and 2. The experimental measurements in the solid state, however, showed efficient luminescence and good ability to convert UV to visible light only for the Sm(pdtc)3(phen) complex. The minor emission of 2 was explained by partial reduction of Eu3+, confirmed by EPR and calculated electron density distribution data.

Phytochemical and biological studies on rare and endangered plants endemic to China. Part XXXVI. Tsugaforrestiacids A–O: Structurally diverse C-18 carboxylated diterpenoids from the twigs and needles of the ‘vulnerable’ conifer Tsuga forrestii and their inhibitory effects on ATP-citrate lyase

An extensive phytochemical investigation on the EtOAc-soluble fraction of the 90% MeOH extract from the twigs and needles of the ‘vulnerable’ Chinese endemic conifer Tsuga forrestii (Forrest's hemlock) led to the isolation and characterization of 50 structurally diverse diterpenoids, including 15 unreported C-18 carboxylated ones (tsugaforrestiacids A−O, 1−15, resp.). Among them, compounds 1−7 are abieten-18-oic acids, compound 8 is an abieten-18-succinate, and compounds 10−12 are podocarpen-18-oic acids, whereas compounds 13−15 are pimarane-type, isopimarane-type, and totarane-type diterpenoid acids, respectively. Their structures and absolute configurations were determined by a combination of spectroscopic methods, GIAO NMR calculations and DP4+ probability analyses, electronic circular dichroism (ECD) data, and single crystal X-ray diffraction analyses. All the isolates were evaluated for their inhibitory activities against the ATP-citrate lyase (ACL), a key enzyme in cellular metabolism. Tsugaforrestiacids E (5) and H (8) were found to have significant inhibitory effects against ACL, with IC50 values of 5.3 and 6.2 μM, respectively. The interactions of the bioactive molecules with the ACL enzyme were examined by molecular docking studies. The isolated diterpenoids also provide chemotaxonomic evidence to support the delimitation of Tsuga from its closest sister group (Nothotsuga). The above findings highlight the importance of protecting plant species with unique and diverse secondary metabolites, which may be potential sources of new therapeutic agents for the treating ACL-associated diseases.

Structural, Vibrational Spectroscopic and Theoretical (DFT) Studies of 4-Chloro- and 5-Chloro-7-azaindole-3-carbaldehydes

Molecular structures of 5-chloro-7-azaindole-3-carbaldehyde (5Cl7AICA) and 4-chloro-7-azaindole-3-carbaldehyde (4Cl7AICA) were investigated using infrared and Raman spectroscopy supported by density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Theoretical studies were carried out with three DFT methods, which include dispersion corrections: B3LYP-D3, PBE0-D3, and ωB97X-D. A single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis was performed for 5Cl7AICA. The compound crystallizes in the monoclinic system, space group P21/c, with lattice parameters a = 3.82810(12) Å, b = 12.7330(3) Å, c = 15.9167(5) Å, and β = 94.539(3)°, with Z = 4. Within the crystal lattice, 5Cl7AICA molecules form dimers via dual and strong N1–H1⋅⋅⋅N7′ hydrogen bonds, accompanied by other intermolecular interactions. In the DFT calculations, two types of dimers of the investigated molecules were analyzed: dimer 1, which is present in the crystal structure of 5Cl7AICA, and dimer 2 displaying a 180° rotation of the aldehyde group compared to dimer 1. Computational results indicate that dimer 1 is more stable than dimer 2 for 5Cl7AICA, whereas dimer 2 is more stable than dimer 1 for 4Cl7AICA molecules. Furthermore, experimental and theoretical vibrational spectra were examined to elucidate the influence of internal rotation of the aldehyde group on spectroscopic properties.
