The Jigsaw of Dis-coloration: Anti-Caste Poetics and The Absent Color

The article is a critical review essay that contextualises, discusses, and theorises anti-caste poetics in the context of discussions on Dalit aesthetics and experience vis à vis postcolonialism and subaltern studies, foregrounding an English poetry collection by a/nil, aka, Anilkumar Payyappilly Vijayan titled The Absent Color (New Delhi: Navayana, 2023). I propose that a/nil’s poetry, in comparison to discussions on world literatures, demands a specific labor in reading; his writing produces an annihilation of a given sensibility in reading poetry. I suggest that his poetry works like an inverse jigsaw puzzle, offering an anti-caste critique of a varna-centered world which is in place. The Absent Color, I argue, un-colors this world of deceptions, using discoloration (like annihilation) as a conceptual framework, to critique the world colored by caste.

Al-Mutanabbi, the Renowned 10th-Century Arab Poet: Insights from Eastern and Western Scholars' Research

This study offers a comparative analysis of Eastern and Western scholarship on Al-Mutanabbi, the renowned 10th-century Arab poet, whose work has profoundly impacted Arabic literature and beyond. By examining key themes such as linguistic style, cultural identity, heroism, and individualism, the research highlights differences in how Eastern and Western scholars interpret his legacy. Eastern scholarship emphasizes Al-Mutanabbi’s mastery of the Arabic language, his deep cultural significance, and his philosophical exploration of Arab ideals, celebrating him as a symbol of Arab identity. Western scholars, on the other hand, often frame his work within the global literary tradition, focusing on universal themes of self-reflection and existential struggle, which position him as a bridge between Eastern and Western literature. This cross-cultural dialogue underscores the poet's dual role as both a representative of Arab heritage and a timeless voice for universal human concerns. The study concludes with suggestions for future research, including exploring Al-Mutanabbi's themes of fate and mortality, cross-cultural influences, and the effects of translation on his work's interpretation. Such research would further establish Al-Mutanabbi’s relevance in world literature and deepen the appreciation of Arabic poetry’s contributions to global literary heritage.

Impact of Data Particle Divide Depth Level on Effectiveness of Hypergeometrical Divide Classifier

Gravitational classifiers belong to the supervised machine learning area, and the basic element that they process is a data particle. So far, many algorithms have been presented in the world literature. They focus on creating a data particle and determining its two important parameters - a centroid and a mass. Hypergeometrical Divide is one of the latest algorithms in this group, which focuses on reducing the amount of processing data and keeping relevant information. A proportion of data to information depends on the data particle divide depth level. Its properties and application potential have been researched, and this article is the next step of the work. The aim of the research described in this article was to determine relation of the depth level value of data particle divide to the effectiveness of the Hypergeometrical Divide algorithm. The research was conducted on 7 real data sets with different characteristics, applying methods and measures of evaluating artificial intelligence algorithms described in the literature. 63 measurements were performed. As a result, the effectiveness of the Hypergeometrical Divide method was defined at each of available data particle divide depth levels for each of used databases.

Jay Wright’s Errant Texts and the Idea of World Literature

ABSTRACT This article offers an analytical framework that places debates in postcolonial literature and transnational literature in dialogue. The juxtaposition of concepts from both renders legible the existence of what the author refers to as world literature’s errant texts. These errant texts, ’Gbenga Adeoba suggests, travel in a different form than current concepts of world literature allow and demonstrate world-making sensibilities. In the way they enact (re)worlding, world literature’s errant texts contest a marginalizing impulse and foreground polycentric alliances and aesthetic maps that assert relationality. The article proposes the poetry of Jay Wright as exemplary of such errantry and considers the multicultural and relational aspect of his poetics as his contribution to the contemporary conversation on world literature.

Weisstein, Ulrich. Comparative Literature and Literary Theory. Bloomington: Indiana University Press, 1973: A Review Article

Ulrich Weisstein is considered one the pillars of comparative literature. He has a Ph.D. in comparative literature (1954) from IU. He was one of the first to do so from the IU Comparative Literature Program. In his famous book, Comparative Literature and Literary Theory, He attempts to draw the line between different concepts like comparative, national, and world literatures. He dedicates long chapters to explain genres throughout histories as well as movements. He belongs the French school of comparative literature in which he believes that there is transference of impact between the influencer and the influenced by. In this article, Weisstein is not only a writer, but also, a historian who traces back concepts like stof, motif, genre, movement, and school. He differentiates, compares and presents his viewpoint of World Literature (WL), National Literature (NL) and Comparative Literature (CL).

Wen, Literature, and Belles Lettres: Reconfiguring Chinese Literature in Nineteenth-Century English Sinology

ABSTRACT This article examines the fluid nature of literature as exemplified both semantically and conceptually in the English-language studies of Chinese literature conducted by Western Sinologists in the nineteenth century. If Chinese literary modernization of the early twentieth century is seen as shaped by the contact with foreign literary theories, Sinologists in the nineteenth century had already engaged actively with English literary concepts to reconfigure Chinese literature in their English-language writings. This article contends that, regardless of their impact on Chinese literary modernity, the Sinologists’ conceptions underlined the aesthetic and generic concerns that are fundamental to the modern understanding of literature and thereby fostered a renewed imagination of Chinese literature in the English-speaking world. Examining a wide range of primary materials, including dictionaries and Sinological writings, this article aims to unfold their transcultural naming and legitimizing process that gave rise to the knowledge category of Chinese literature through contingent English and Chinese literary terminology, narrative frameworks, and categorization schemes. This article traces the unnoticed history in comparative literary history to offer a genealogical understanding of the Western conception of Chinese literature. It also provides a new dimension for reviewing and analyzing the dialogue and interplay between Western and Chinese literary ideas within the Sinologists’ writings prior to the overwhelming influence of Western literary ideas during the period of Chinese literary modernity.

Urdu, Persian, and (Even) English: Triangulating Postcolonial Literary History with The Making of Persianate Modernity

ABSTRACT This article highlights the advantages of taking a triangulated approach to colonial and postcolonial literary history as modeled by Alexander Jabbari’s The Making of Persianate Modernity: Language and Literary History between Iran and India. Jabbari’s reconsideration of literary modernity through the synchronous and multilingual exchange between Persian, Urdu, and English letters softens some of the assumed hierarchies that dominate Persianate and Anglophone studies, particularly. It furthermore underscores the unique perspective that Urdu writing on literary modernity offers scholars of world literature in light of the former’s associations with Persian in an intellectual climate that chiefly valued indigenized historiographies of linguistic origin.

Psychoneurological disorders in the stage of post-COVID syndrome

Аim. Generalization and systematization of ideas about the pathophysiological mechanisms of asthenic syndrome development against the background of COVID-19.Materials and methods. The work analyzed scientific articles and monographs devoted to the etiopathogenesis of post-COVID asthenic syndrome (PCAS). The search was carried out by the keywords «COVID-19», «post-COVID syndrome», «psychoneurological disorders», «asthenic syndrome» using the PubMed, Medline, eLibrary.ru databases.Results and discussion. The ideas about the clinical structure of PCAS are systematized, the mechanisms of penetration of the SARS-CoV-2 virus into the nervous system are presented, modern views on the molecular mechanisms of the development of neurological symptoms in COVID-19 convalescents are highlighted. The key pathogenetic links of PCAS are described, including immune deviations associated with cytokine imbalance, oxidative and nitrosative stress reactions with subsequent activation of anaerobic metabolic pathways in brain and muscle tissues; neurometabolic changes accompanied by dysfunction of the serotonergic, dopaminergic, noradrenergic and GABAergic systems.Conclusion. Analysis of world literature data, as well as our own clinical experience, allows us to conclude that psychoneurological disorders associated with COVID-19 infection are multifaceted and complex and are accompanied by highly variable symptoms. At the same time, the existing fragmentary knowledge regarding the pathomechanisms of psychoneurological disorders against the background of COVID-19 dictates an urgent need to continue further research in this area.

Surgical aspects of treatment a patient with choledocholithiasis after gastropancreatoduodenectomy resection

Cholelithiasis is a common problem in surgery. The pathological basis of the disease is a imbalance between cholesterol, bilirubin and bile acid metabolism. There are several risk factors for cholelithiasis, both modifiable and non-modifiable. Complications of this pathology most often require surgical intervention: either planned or emergency. One of such complications is choledocholithiasis. Most often, choledocholithiasis occurs as a result of migration of stones from the gallbladder, less often of stones form in the bile ducts. In the world and Russian literature, many works are devoted to the etiology, pathogenesis and the treatment of patients with choledocholithiasis. The diagnosis is confirmed using advanced imaging methods, such as magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography. A widely used method of treatment is endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography in combination with endoscopic papillosphincterotomy. However, in case of severe choledocholithiasis, including with an altered anatomical picture, standard methods do not always allow to achieve the desired result. This article describes a clinical case of successful treatment of a patient with choledocholithiasis that developed two years after gastropancreatoduodenal resection for adenocarcinoma of the major duodenal papilla.

A Corpus-Based Evaluation of English Readers’ Aesthetic Reception of the Shandong-English Translation in Red Sorghum

In the context of world literature, target readers’ aesthetic reception of literary works has shifted from single culture to multiple cultures and has become a crucial factor in social-cultural communication. Shandong dialect, previously misidentified as vulgar expressions in literary research, has proved to have specific aesthetic values as explored in this research. This paper aims to analyse reasons for aesthetic criticism and find solutions to enhance the aesthetic acceptability of Shandong-English translation in Red Sorghum among English readers. Data were collected from different channels, including scholarly critiques, book reviews, blog posts by literary critics, and online forums. A corpus-based methodology is utilized to examine the aesthetic acceptability and reasons for aesthetic criticism by employing a re-framed aesthetic reception theory. Results showed greater frequency of aesthetic acceptance in book reviews than in online forums and blog posts by literary critics, with 53.7 per cent aesthetic acceptance versus 39.7 per cent aesthetic criticism from a total 529 sample data, excluding 6.6 per cent neutrality. Furthermore, book reviews showed a greater tendency towards aesthetic acceptance (64.3%) than online forums (51.5%) and blog posts by literary critics (33.3%). Lastly, the reasons for aesthetic criticism were mainly demonstrated in cultural disparity and defamiliarization of Shandong dialectal expression. The paper concludes by underscoring the significance of shifting from a text-oriented tendency to readers’ expectancy, initiative interaction, and social consciousness in the interaction with literary works. The study contributes reconstructed theory and practical insights for translators to balance the original cultural references and acceptability among English readers.

Phytophthora heterospora is the causal agent of black rot disease on the orchid Cattleya leopoldii in Brazil.

Widely produced and marketed worldwide, orchids suffers from several diseases that have a negative effect on production. Black rot disease is among the most common and severe disease, characterized by black spots of rot on leaves, pseudobulbs and roots, which usually lead to the plant death. The world literature lists some Phytophthora species as causal agents of the disease, but there is no advanced study on the etiology of this disease in Brazil, which makes it difficult to determine an efficient control method. This work aims to contribute to the study of the etiology of black rot on Cattleya leopoldii in Brazil. Severely diseased C. leopoldii plants with typical symptoms of black rot, collected from a commercial orchid farm in Brazil, were taken to the laboratory and used to isolate the pathogen. Based on morphological characters analysis combined with molecular data, the isolates were identified as belonging to the species Phytophthora heterospora. This is the first worldwide report of P. heterospora causing black rot disease on orchids.

WORLD LITERATURE IN HUNGARIAN TRANSLATION ANTHOLOGIES IN SLOVAKIA

The study draws on minor literature theory and cultural theory of literary translation. As a case study, it analyses Olivér Rácz’s Csillagsugárzás (1978), an anthology of translations from world literature into Hungarian in Slovakia, and also compares it with the volumes by László Cselényi (1986) and Árpád Tőzsér (2002). In Hungarian literature, the anthologies compiled during the modernist period can be attributed mainly to the oeuvre of the poets who grouped around the literary journal Nyugat, and like the journal, these anthologies are linked to Western literature, complemented by the canon of classical antique literature. This initial tendency changed radically, especially after the Second World War, when the ruling ideology expected the literature of the socialist bloc to be represented. The collection of poems under analysis draws on this tradition but also seeks to incorporate Slovak and Czech literature into the world literary canon, given its minority position, while also making use of ideological and manipulative gestures.

TO MEET AND CONTINUE ON THE SAME LINE The Új Symposion writer’s attitude to Antun Šoljan’s literary concept

The Croatian author Antun Šoljan (1932–1993) came to the attention of the emerging generations of writers and artists in Vojvodina in the first half of the 1950s. His sensibility as a poet, storyteller, and literary translator, as well as his activity as a newspaper editor and his commitment as a critic, influenced the Symposion generation mostly by encouraging them to follow in his steps, but also by stimulating discussion. My article discusses the multi-directional reception of this attitude, which regards high-quality aesthetic performance and commitment as a function, not of social status, but of free artistic creation, detailing those mutual ideological reference points, connections, or collision surfaces, that are characterized by intellectual self-representation that avoids the false heroism of national myths and continuity of tradition freed from the manic import and/or epigonism of recent trends in world literature.

Proteus Syndrome: Description of Two Clinical Cases

Background. Proteus syndrome is extremely rare congenital multisystem disease with high variability in clinical manifestations. Its prevalence is unknown, there are less than 200 cases in the world literature. The syndrome is a classic example of somatic mosaicism, and all target drugs for its management are based on it. Clinical case description. This article describes two clinical cases with somatic variants of the nucleotide sequence in the AKT1 gene, mosaic form, revealed by the NGS method. Target drug (mTOR-inhibitors group) was assigned in one case. Conclusion. The description of the phenotypic features of patients with Proteus syndrome is crucial as this pathology is very rare. It is necessary to increase the awareness of clinicians about this disease to develop a plan for dynamic follow-up with consideration to life-threatening complications (malignant tumors and thrombembolia risk). Genetic verification of Proteus syndrome is mandatory nowadays as target therapy is actively developed and implemented, thus, revision of clinical guidelines is recommended.

Инфузия субанестетических доз кетамина в послеоперационном периоде как средство церебропротекции у детей при хирургической коррекции врожденных пороков сердца: проспективное рандомизированное исследование

INTRODUCTION: The world literature describes the cerebroprotective properties of ketamine when used in minimal doses, which is due to its effect on NMDA receptors and inhibition of damage to the neurovascular unit. However, there is a lack of research on the use of ketamine for cerebroprotection in pediatric populations and cardiac surgery. OBJECTIVES: To establish the safety and effectiveness of ketamine infusion for cerebroprotection in children in the postoperative period during cardiac surgery. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The study included 45 children aged from 1 to 60 months and weighing from 3.5 to 20 kg, who underwent surgical correction of atrial or ventricular septal defect of the heart under artificial circulation. Patients were randomized into a study group or a control group. In the study group, upon completion, patients received a ketamine infusion at a dose of 0.1 mg/kg/hour for 16 h. To establish the effectiveness of cerebroprotection, serum markers of damage to the neurovascular unit were used: protein S100-β, neuron-specific enolase (NSE), glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP), occludin, claudin-1. Blood sampling for marker analysis was carried out at three control points: before the start of the operation, immediately after completion of artificial circulation and 16 hours after completion of the operation. RESULTS: Al studied factors in the intra- and postoperative period did not differ significantly between groups. When analyzing markers of damage to a neurovascular unit, their maximum concentration was revealed at the second control point. For the NSE marker, a lower level was found in the group using ketamine — 16.52 [11.61–18.8] and 21.37 [17.78–28.74] ng/ml (p = 0.0019). CONCLUSIONS: The safety of using ketamine infusion in the postoperative period at a dose of 0.1 mg/kg/hour was revealed. Among all markers used, NSE serum concentrations were statistically significantly lower in the ketamine group.

Poetic Disillusionment and Immortal Struggles: A Comparative Study of Lin Daiyu and Jane Eyre

Abstract: Lin Daiyu and Jane Eyre are both well-known characters in world literature. Though they are created by writers from different cultures in different times, many studies have found that they have many similarities and worth comparing. However, there is a lack of comprehensive understanding in Lin Daiyu and Jane Eyre's similarities and differences as well as the factors that influence them. Aiming to compare Lin Daiyu and Jane Eyre experiences and characteristics roundly, this essay not only summarizes previous studies, but also divides into three aspects to compare Lin Daiyu and Jare Eyre, which are personalities, love experiences and growth environment. It is found that Lin Daiyu and Jane Eyre both respect themselves as well as others, with strong self-esteem and the value of equality. At the same time, they both show their courage to resist unreasonable things in society. They both pursue pure love without material desires, while Lin Daiyu regards love as more important than Jane Eyre. Jane Eyre's harsh growth environment with simple relationships gives her tenacity, while Lin Daiyu's seemingly enjoyable growth environment with complicated relationships makes her more sensitive. The different experiences and values of the writers also have a significant influence on the characters they create. Comparing two famous characters from different cultures allows us to learn more about the themes of great literature works and witness the image of a group of people from different historical background.

Poly(lactide)-Based Materials Modified with Biomolecules: A Review.

Poly(lactic acid) (PLA) is characterized by unique features, e.g., it is environmentally friendly, biocompatible, has good thermomechanical properties, and is readily available and biodegradable. Due to the increasing pollution of the environment, PLA is a promising alternative that can potentially replace petroleum-derived polymers. Different biodegradable polymers have numerous biomedical applications and are used as packaging materials. Because the pure form of PLA is delicate, brittle, and is characterized by a slow degradation rate and a low thermal resistance and crystallization rate, these disadvantages limit the range of applications of this polymer. However, the properties of PLA can be improved by chemical or physical modification, e.g., with biomolecules. The subject of this review is the modification of PLA properties with three classes of biomolecules: polysaccharides, proteins, and nucleic acids. A quite extensive description of the most promising strategies leading to improvement of the bioactivity of PLA, through modification with these biomolecules, is presented in this review. Thus, this article deals mainly with a presentation of the major developments and research results concerning PLA-based materials modified with different biomolecules (described in the world literature during the last decades), with a focus on such methods as blending, copolymerization, or composites fabrication. The biomedical and unique biological applications of PLA-based materials, especially modified with polysaccharides and proteins, are reviewed, taking into account the growing interest and great practical potential of these new biodegradable biomaterials.

Elements of Romantic Poetics in Rydbergʼs Work: Continuity and Innovation. The Motif of Journey in Viktor Rydberg’s Poetry

The article is devoted to the motif of journey in the poetry of swedish author of the second half of 19th century Viktor Rydberg (1828–1895). The way has been considered as a metaphor in mythological and folklore texts, and the motif of journey is one of the most common motifs in world literature. It has a special significance for Romanticists, in whose texts the journey symbolizes the process of individual spiritual quest. The similar approach to the metaphorisation of the path is characteristic of Rydberg’s works: the influence of Romantic tradition can be traced in them. The works of swedish poet with the motif of journey and hero-wanderer in the center were analyzed in the article. The role of the motif of journey in the formation of the spiritual apperanance of characters was revealed.
