Obfuscation Based Security Protocol for Wireless Network

Nowadays, wireless communication has evolved remarkably and dominates all the other kinds of communication. Although it is susceptible to severe security and privacy threats, it continues to be widely used due to its easy deployability and usage. However, it is also prone to cyber-attacks due to its fragile and vulnerable topology. Therefore, encrypting the content with privacy with the latest protocols is the need of the hour. Out of several available techniques, obfuscation is one of the efficient techniques to solve the above-mentioned problem. Obfuscation is the intentional act of producing source or machine code that is challenging to understand. In the presented research work, an algorithm has been proposed that obfuscates the content using the Rivest–Shamir–Adleman (RSA) algorithm. In the above-mentioned algorithm, the data is stored on the server in obfuscated form using the client's public key. The client will use its private key to decrypt the text. Even though the private key and public key are co-related, it is not feasible to derive one from another as the process is onerous.

Novel Framework for Maximizing Security over Wireless Network

With the increasing adoption of application running over wireless networking system, there is also an increasing security concern in it. Review of existing security protocols in wireless networks shows that they are highly specific to adversaries and hence they cannot be applicable with the dynamic state of network vulnerabilities. Apart from this, it was also explored that public key encryption requires a drastic change in its design methodology in order to make it more resource friendly for increased network lifetime. Therefore, this manuscript presents a novel framework that develops an enhanced model of public key encryption using algebraic structure that can generate an elite secret key. The study also introduces a design of an efficient trapdoor function which renders maximum resiliency towards different forms of lethal attacks as well as adhere to maximum security standards in wireless network. The study outcome shows that proposed system out performs frequently used existing security standards in many aspects.

Performance Analysis of Wireless Network Throughput and Security Protocol Integration

Wireless network security protocols are essential for enhancing security, privacy and confidentiality. However, network security protocols also require network resources in other to carry out authentication of users through the use of encryption keys and packet encryption. It is therefore relevant to investigate the effects of the amount of resources used by recommended wireless network security protocols in other to determine if user quality of experience and user quality of service is affected by the implementation wireless network security protocols. Our research investigates and examines the effect of security protocols on wireless network performance. The Wi-Fi Protected Access 2 - PreShared Key (WPA2-PSK) was used as the security protocol in focus while throughput was the network performance feature that was analyzed. Experiments were carried out which showed that throughput in a non-secured Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) is a bit higher than throughput in a secured WLAN. Our research contributes to the future development of WLAN protocols with low network resource consumption in other to contribute to improved network performance.

Wireless Anomaly Detection Based on IEEE 802.11 Behavior Analysis

Wireless communication networks are pervading every aspect of our lives due to their fast, easy, and inexpensive deployment. They are becoming ubiquitous and have been widely used to transfer critical information, such as banking accounts, credit cards, e-mails, and social network credentials. The more pervasive the wireless technology is going to be, the more important its security issue will be. Whereas the current security protocols for wireless networks have addressed the privacy and confidentiality issues, there are unaddressed vulnerabilities threatening their availability and integrity (e.g., denial of service, session hijacking, and MAC address spoofing attacks). In this paper, we describe an anomaly based intrusion detection system for the IEEE 802.11 wireless networks based on behavioral analysis to detect deviations from normal behaviors that are triggered by wireless network attacks. Our anomaly behavior analysis of the 802.11 protocols is based on monitoring the n-consecutive transitions of the protocol state machine. We apply sequential machine learning techniques to model the n-transition patterns in the protocol and characterize the probabilities of these transitions being normal. We have implemented several experiments to evaluate our system performance. By cross validating the system over two different wireless channels, we have achieved a low false alarm rate (<0.1%). We have also evaluated our approach against an attack library of known wireless attacks and has achieved more than 99% detection rate.

Security Issues for Mobile Medical Imaging: A Primer.

The end-user of mobile device apps in the practice of clinical radiology should be aware of security measures that prevent unauthorized use of the device, including passcode policies, methods for dealing with failed login attempts, network manager-controllable passcode enforcement, and passcode enforcement for the protection of the mobile device itself. Protection of patient data must be in place that complies with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act and U.S. Federal Information Processing Standards. Device security measures for data protection include methods for locally stored data encryption, hardware encryption, and the ability to locally and remotely clear data from the device. As these devices transfer information over both local wireless networks and public cell phone networks, wireless network security protocols, including wired equivalent privacy and Wi-Fi protected access, are important components in the chain of security. Specific virtual private network protocols, Secure Sockets Layer and related protocols (especially in the setting of hypertext transfer protocols), native apps, virtual desktops, and nonmedical commercial off-the-shelf apps require consideration in the transmission of medical data over both private and public networks. Enterprise security and management of both personal and enterprise mobile devices are discussed. Finally, specific standards for hardware and software platform security, including prevention of hardware tampering, protection from malicious software, and application authentication methods, are vital components in establishing a secure platform for the use of mobile devices in the medical field.

A semantic analysis of key management protocols for wireless sensor networks

Gorrieri and Martinelli’s timed Generalized Non-Deducibility on Compositions (tGNDC) schema is a well-known general framework for the formal verification of security protocols in a concurrent scenario. We generalise the tGNDC schema to verify wireless network security protocols. Our generalisation relies on a simple timed broadcasting process calculus whose operational semantics is given in terms of a labelled transition system which is used to derive a standard simulation theory. We apply our tGNDC framework to perform a security analysis of three well-known key management protocols for wireless sensor networks: μTESLA, LEAP+ and LiSP.

Formal Analysis of Secure Neighbor Discovery in Wireless Networks

We develop a formal framework for the analysis of security protocols in wireless networks. The framework captures characteristics necessary to reason about neighbor discovery protocols, such as the neighbor relation, device location, and message propagation time. We use this framework to establish general results about the possibility of neighbor discovery. In particular, we show that time-based protocols cannot in general provide secure neighbor discovery. Given this insight, we also use the framework to prove the security of four concrete neighbor discovery protocols, including two novel time-and-location-based protocols. We mechanize the model and some proofs in the theorem prover Isabelle.

Application of Synchronous Dynamic Encryption System (SDES) in Wireless Sensor Networks

Inherent to the wireless sensor networks are the two major problems of the broadcasting vulnerability, the limited computational capability and power budget. Even though security is a must in most applications, current sophisticated security protocols are not amenable to the primitiveness of the sensors. In this paper, we introduce a novel security protocol for wireless network of sensors that is very secure, yet simple and efficient. At the core of our security protocol is a simple and fast stream cipher cryptosystem that utilizes permutation vectors as encryption keys, forcing an intruder to a brute-force time complexity of Ω(2^n). In addition, our mechanism alleviates the effect of sensor capture, via its synchronized re-keying feature. In addition to the encryption efficiency, our system utilizes the group deployment of newly joining sensors for sensors power budgeting considerations. Experimental results show very promising future of our system in the wireless networks domain, excelling over other peers of modern cryptosystems (AES, DES, TripleDES), especially in the power budget arena.

On a framework for energy-efficient security protocols in wireless networks

Network security is an important issue especially in wireless networks where the network is open and the network perimeter is not exactly known. This makes wireless networks more vulnerable to attacks such as eavesdropping, message interception and modifications. Several security protocols designed for wired-line networks have been adopted for use in wireless networks. However, they may not be suitable for wireless networks and devices since scenarios and capabilities applicable to wired-line networks may not be valid in wireless networks. For example, wireless devices often have limited battery power, and performing several message exchanges used in typical wired-line security protocols may rapidly deplete the devices’ battery. Cryptographic primitives consume energy and could degrade the battery performance of wireless networks. In this paper, we classify energy saving mechanisms for security protocols in wireless networks. We apply these energy saving mechanisms to existing security protocols and demonstrate the reduction in energy consumption that is possible with the suggested approaches.
