India desperately needs synergy between university and industry to make education globally competitive

This paper presents the brief need and importance of synergy between higher and technical education and industry. A win-win game between industry and institute is very essential in raising their respective performances to greater heights. If synergy is achieved, then higher and technical education in India can hope to become globally competitive. India can then become a hub of education to attract students from abroad, as desired by the government. Synergy will also enable Indian industry to be competitive by world standards and enable India to become a developed country with a high rank in the world. NEP-2020 recommends synergy between the university and industry. In the past, many conferences and seminars in India have taken place, but the progress has been rather slow. This paper makes suggestions to bring synergy into practice. This paper is based on observations made during personal visits to several universities in developed countries, like the USA, UK, Germany, and India.

The role of trust in open innovation collaboration: the experience of polish medium-high-tech SMEs

This paper contributes to an emerging debate on open innovation ecosystems and knowledge sharing in the innovation environment, by sharing insights on the role of trust in open innovation collaboration. Systematization of the state of art literature on the innovation networks show that trust is crucial for improving competition among Polish companies, yet its seems to have not an important place in the innovation environment. The main purpose of the research is to determine the role of personal traits, including trust, in the initiation of the potential open innovation collaboration. The study applies the qualitative survey method and shares up-to-date empirical evidence from Polish high- and high-mid-tech small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The study was conducted using the computer-assisted telephone interviewing (CATI) method, in collaboration with the ARC Rynek i Opinia company, from January to April 2021. The study covers 100 SMEs active in advanced technology industries. The results reflect the opinions of middle- to high level managers. The study findings show that there is a need for a deeper understanding of the factors behind trust-embedded open innovation collaboration, and the perception of open innovation as a win-win game for all the partners. Better understanding of these factors will ensure more effective communication in developing an open innovation environment in Polish SMEs. The study findings also indicate the need for an active role of key stakeholders and intermediary agents in facilitating formal and informal networks stimulating mutual trust, as well as the importance to build the educational system enabling the strengthening of the creativity, and the diffusion of innovations.

Zero-sum or Win-win Game?

Abstract Metaphors can express ideological and evaluative positions. However, comparative studies on the framing implications of sports/game metaphors in Western and Chinese contexts remain underexplored. This study examines how journalists in China, the UK, and the US use sports/game metaphors to frame trade disputes in comparable English-language economic news based on a context-sensitive and hierarchical analytical framework. Results reveal the prevalence of sports/game metaphors in both Chinese and Western texts. Additionally, the results demonstrate that the UK and US texts exhibit socio-cultural preferences for associating specific sports/game scenarios that are salient in Western cultures, e.g., rugby, with trade disputes, and favor a competition narrative. However, the Chinese texts favor a coopetition narrative, suggesting both competition and win-win cooperation. This study adds new insights into cultural variations in the use and framing implications of sports/game metaphors in Western and Chinese economic discourse to express ideological standpoints towards similar economic issues.

The Role of the Quiet Ego in Promoting Benefits from Social Participation: A Win-win Game for Sustained Social Participation

In this paper, we argue that the quiet ego, defined as an inclusive identity oriented toward long-term growth in desirable and adaptive ways for oneself and others, can be expressed and developed by participating in the social sphere. The objectives of this study are: 1) to analyze the measurement quality of the Quiet Ego Scale (QES) in a sample of Spanish individuals with different levels of prosocial participation (Study 1; N = 238); and 2) to analyze how the QES is related to participants’ perceived benefits and costs and their intention to continue participating in prosocial activities, in a new sample of individuals who actively participate as volunteers, community leaders, activists, and so on (Study 2; N = 288). Our findings showed that the QES has adequate psychometric properties for use in samples of Spanish individuals who perform various social activities. Furthermore, the results suggest a positive chain of relationships, that is, a quiet ego is related to individuals’ perception of three specific benefits associated with prosocial participation (Benefits from the activities, Benefits of giving, and Benefits of sharing with similar people), and these benefits to their intention to continue performing such activities. These findings can help non-profit organizations sustain social participation based on perceived personal benefits and the dimensions of a quiet ego.

Tourism coopetition for a better world: a cycle of creation, appropriation, and devolution of social value

ABSTRACT Coopetition is a win-win game to obtain competitive advantages through value creation and appropriation. Strategic networks for tourism development must consider who benefits from the value created, which in this case is society. This research examines the effects of tourism coopetition on the social value cycle, creation-appropriation and devolution of value to society. The methodology used is quantitative, through partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM). Data collection was carried out in Areia City, Brazil, a historical heritage tourism destination, and the sample includes 539 respondents. Results demonstrated that tourism coopetition could lead to the same benefits as social businesses and provide social value devolution if it focuses on society-centric tourism development. Practical implications indicated drivers generate social value for tourism. Besides creating and devolving value to society, coopetition in tourism indirectly improves the appropriation of the collective value created by the networks. It is another way of balancing the negative impacts of competition or societal asymmetries. Furthermore, this study developed the concepts of tourism social value creation, appropriation, devolution and society-centric tourism development, which are fundamental contributions from the tourism sector.

Exploring Feminism on Ghãtu Cultural Site

This paper analyzes Ghãtu cultural site from a feminist approach. Ghãtu cultural site has been studied mostly from the anthropological point of view but it has not been studied from this approach. The study explores feminism on this site to make the readers aware of female identity and gender equality by teaching feminism in EFL classes because society is not free from the grip of male domination. The pedagogical implications are to make the students or the new generation aware of gender discrimination. Most females think that their misfortune victimizes them but this paper attempts to prove that it is not. This paper suggests that misfortune should be changed into good fortune. According to the theory of feminism, the female voice should be addressed. Ghãtu cite is a burning example of extreme male domination. The sati system, immolation, compels queen Yemphawati, to jump into the burning pyre of her husband. The findings of the study show that society has been knowingly or unknowingly dominating and using females yet. This essay protests the conservative thought of a patriarchal society. Still, some males are guided by such a poor mentality and they want to dominate females. The study is about maintaining the balance between male-female so that a win-win game will be there. The trend of othering never results positively. And this paper forwards these questions. Why do males treat females as commodities in Ghãtu? What are the main reasons of the over-domination of females? Are females weaker than males?

Game theory attack pricing for mining pools in blockchain-based IoT

The malicious mining pool can sacrifice part of its revenue to employ the computing power of blockchain network. The employed computing power carries out the pool mining attacks on the attacked mining pool. To realize the win-win game between the malicious mining pool and the employee, the paper proposes an Employment Attack Pricing Algorithm (EAPA) of mining pools in blockchain based on game theory. In the EAPA, the paper uses mathematical formulas to express the revenue of malicious mining pools under the employment attack, the revenue increment of malicious mining pools, and the revenue of the employee. It establishes a game model between the malicious mining pool and the employee under the employment attack. Then, the paper proposes an optimal computing power price selection strategy of employment attack based on model derivation. In the strategy, the malicious mining pool analyzes the conditions for the employment attack, and uses the derivative method to find the optimal utilization value of computing power, employees analyze the conditions for accepting employment, and use the derivative method to find the optimal reward value of computing power. Finally, the strategy finds the optimal employment computing power price to realize Nash equilibrium between the malicious mining pool and the employee under the current computing power allocation. The simulation results show that the EAPA could find the employment computing power price that realizes the win-win game between the malicious mining pool and the employee. The EAPA also maximizes the unit computing power revenue of employment and the unit computing power revenue of honest mining in malicious mining pool at the same time. The EAPA outperforms the state-of-the-art methods such as SPSUCP, DPSACP, and FPSUCP.

The Development Dilemma and Path Choice of Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Based on Game Theory

Innovation and entrepreneurship education (IEE) is a powerful driving force to promote the transformation and development of college education and an effective way to broaden the employment channels. However, IEE has been used to train students in classrooms by college managers who do not systematically think of practical training for innovation and entrepreneurship talents. There are still many difficulties in the process of development of IEE that managers cannot ignore. The relevant models that could deeply analyze the connotation of IEE were established through the game theory that explained the game balance among government, universities, and students in the IEE process. A game theory model explained the external game behavior of universities and students and the internal game behavior between students. Another model analyzed the strategies of players pursuing maximum payoffs from the perspective of both sides of the game and the influences of these strategies on the players. The problems in the process of IEE development are concluded including imperfect management system, unscientific curriculum design, nonideal talent training and unprofessional teachers. Based on it, the development path of IEE is explored through the game concept. A scientific and leading system of management and evaluation is needed to put forward by strengthening the top-level design at the national level, and a win-win game situation between colleges and students will be achieved by the optimized education system.

Green transition in semi-captive foodservice environments as a win-win game for both policymakers and consumers?Qualitative insights from implementation of organic foods in army foodservice

ABSTRACT Organic policies have become an important strategy to increase the sustainability of food systems. Procurement of organic foods for the public is an important part of such strategies. Policymakers have become aware of the way through which food economy can be influenced more sustainably through the implementation of greener procurement practices. The value of food bought by the public for settings such as schools, hospitals, canteens, and care homes is considerable and provides a strong rationale for public organic policies. However, such policies require well-planned implementation and involve a multitude of practitioners. Changing practices require the backstage support of both policymakers and food professionals as well as support from the frontstage actors – the users of the canteens. The paper examines whether organic food-based diets could be implemented in a semi-captive environment, such as that of army foodservice, for the mutual benefits of both consumers and policymakers. We studied the Canteen2018 intervention implemented over 8 months period with a targeted increase of organic foods shares to the “silver” or “gold” level of the Danish organic label. Results show that such a change process creates tensions in the interface between the user, the staffs, and the policy levels, but that it was possible to increase the amount of organic share without radically compromising the overall user satisfaction. Organic conversion in the semi-captive food environments as those of army canteens is possible if due consideration is given to planning, monitoring, education and learning, information and communication, stakeholder involvement, and experience sharing.

Beijing Interests in CPEC

The paper investigates the PRC interests being developed in China Pakistan Economic Corridor since long its announcement in 2015. The study also analysis the factors that led to the adoption of policy being chalk out for the joint venture of CPEC. Beijing articulated its interests under the prism of political, security, economic and strategic perspectives. The Western World comprehended Chinese interests in the strategic perspective but Chinese always define it as economic and a win-win game for both the receiver and PRC. The paper concluded that China deep political and strategic interest in CPEC that undermines the interest of many major powers including USA, India and some extent Russia. The study also finds that CPEC has been marked the shortest and safest commercial route to Beijing global trade that cut down fourteen thousand miles of distances while reaching from eastern China to the Arabian Sea.

Adversarial Training for Unknown Word Problems in Neural Machine Translation

Nearly all of the work in neural machine translation (NMT) is limited to a quite restricted vocabulary, crudely treating all other words the same as an < unk > symbol. For the translation of language with abundant morphology, unknown (UNK) words also come from the misunderstanding of the translation model to the morphological changes. In this study, we explore two ways to alleviate the UNK problem in NMT: a new generative adversarial network (added value constraints and semantic enhancement) and a preprocessing technique that mixes morphological noise. The training process is like a win-win game in which the players are three adversarial sub models (generator, filter, and discriminator). In this game, the filter is to emphasize the discriminator’s attention to the negative generations that contain noise and improve the training efficiency. Finally, the discriminator cannot easily discriminate the negative samples generated by the generator with filter and human translations. The experimental results show that the proposed method significantly improves over several strong baseline models across various language pairs and the newly emerged Mongolian-Chinese task is state-of-the-art.

Analytical approach to win-win game analysis for Chinese and Japanese development assistance strategies in Africa

Still influenced by the cold war thinking, many countries – especially looking to new rising powers – might interact in the international scenario through competition, instead than cooperation. However, China has seen more opportunities in cooperation than challenges in competition. Since 2013, Chinese president Xi Jinping pointed out clearly in various public occasions that this world has become a community of common destiny. In this paper, we used an asymmetric dynamic evolution game model, adding the hypothesis of win-win game, to analyze why China would like to choose the strategy of cooperation, rather than competition, in international affairs. We applied this analytical framework to the case study of Chinese and Japanese environmental assistance programs to Africa. We found that, based on the traditional game theory, under the hypothesis of the cold war mentality, China and Japan may act as mutual rivals. Under this circumstance, China, as an emerging developing country, will more likely choose the strategy of competition, rather than cooperating with other countries. Instead, Japan, as a traditional developed country, will more likely choose to cooperate, rather than competing with China, especially if the expected cost of the failure of the competition is high. However, in the new hypothesis of win-win game analysis, we found that cooperation strategy on development assistance to Africa is more likely a rational choice for both China and Japan. Thus, we suggest that China might keep practicing its win-win strategy and do not use the outdated zero-sum game and winner-take-all strategy as some of its counterparts may probably do. This analytical framework can be applied to other international affairs involving China and other countries.

Developing International Law in Challenging Times

The challenges confronted by the world in the 21st century are enormous; from the massive outflow of refugees, the threat of terrorism, the need for a general consensus to protect the environment, etc. There is thus the need for scholars, practitioners, and stakeholders of international law to think of effective and efficient ways of developing robust and strong international laws to deal effectively with these challenges.Using the qualitative approach to research, this paper examines some of the key challenges that confronts the development of and compliance with international law. The paper offers some new insights which have the propensity to aid in the development of and compliance with international law in these challenging times.The paper concludes that though international law has over the years expedited addressing most of the world’s challenges, the recent challenges requires modifications of some aspects of existing international laws to effectively deal with such challenges. For instance, there is the need to review the veto power of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council; there must be better interpretation of the law that prohibits the use of force, as well as the need for appropriate measures to convince states that abiding by international law is a win-win game. In addition, deploying economic diplomacy and applying the Corporate Social Responsibility Approach to Building International Law (CRASBIL) are deemed meaningful for developing international law and also achieving effective compliance.

Scientific communication

The article tackles the problem of models of communication in science. The formal division of communication processes into oral and written does not resolve the problem of attitude. The author defines successful communication as a win-win game, based on the respect and equality of the partners, regardless of their position in the world of science. The core characteristics of the process of scientific communication are indicated , such as openness, fairness, support, and creation. The task of creating the right atmosphere for science communication belongs to moderators, who should not allow privilege and differentiation of position to affect scientific communication processes.

Trimming the social body

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to analyse through ethnographic fieldwork the social and cultural context and (unintended) consequences of introducing a management concept from the private sector (LEAN) into the public sector.Design/methodology/approachEthnographic fieldwork combined with reading of reports and material.FindingsThe major findings are: first, Lean is seen in a cultural context, it is argued that the persuasiveness of Lean depends on building a metaphorical connection between organizational aims and individual experiences and bodily ideals; second, Lean purports to be a win-win game and road to eliminating “waste” through worker participation, empowerment and enthusiasm. The research points to the contrary. Lean was met with scepticism and was seen by the social workers as a waste of time.Originality/valueAs demonstrated in the paper, the vast majority of research published about Lean is hortatory in nature. It is recipe books trying to convince readers of the benefits of introducing Lean. This paper, on the contrary, attempts an open ethnographic exploration of the Lean process and its social and cultural ramifications.

Virtual queue dropping for robust real-time video over IEEE 802.11aa wireless LANs

Stream classification service (SCS) is a novel concept proposed in the newly released IEEE 802.11aa standard for robust audio and video streaming, particularly for graceful degradation of streaming quality during network congestions. Based on intra-access category prioritisation (IACP), SCS is equipped with a pair of access category (AC) queues to differentiate real-time and non-real-time video streams, namely (AC_VI, AAC_VI), and thus introduces the need for an efficient scheduler design; similarly for audio. In this study, we propose a novel cross-layer design called virtual queue dropping (VQD) for packet scheduling between AC_VI and AAC_VI. Driven by a real-time video-packet-importance scheme, VQD adopts conditional priority weighting to enhance the priority of I-packets from AAC_VI so that they can fairly compete with P-packets from AC_VI. Moreover, to achieve graceful degradation during network congestions, VQD (i.e. based on priority coupling among different component queue lengths within the same physical AC queue) is adopted so that the dropping probabilities of lower-priority video packets are not only larger but also affected-and-increased by those of higher-priority ones. Different limits of priority retires of I- and P-packets can avoid unexpected long delays, and an optimal set of retry limits has been found to minimise the performance impact due to real-time constraints. Our results show that VQD outperforms PWD and SCS-CR in various performance metrics, and achieves a win-win game for the dilemma in maintaining priority for AC_VI and fairness for AAC_VI simultaneously.

Optimal pricing in time of use demand response by integrating with dynamic economic dispatch problem

DED (Dynamic economic dispatch) problem schedules generation units during the whole dispatch period in order to minimize the fuel costs. On the other hand DRPs (Demand Response Programs) focus on increasing customers' benefit and improving network reliability. If these two problems are optimally integrated considering their interactions at each side, they will be implemented more effectively. One of the main concerns in the TOU (Time of Use) DRP is the optimal pricing during different periods. In this paper, TOU which focuses on the demand side has been intelligently integrated with the DED problem which focuses on the supply side. In the combined problem namely DEDTOU, a new procedure for the optimal pricing will be presented so that the fuel costs in the DED problem are minimized and the optimal prices during different periods i.e. valley, off-peak, and peak periods in TOU are determined simultaneously. By the way, not only the network reliability and customers' benefit are increased but also fuel costs are decreased and generation units are optimally scheduled. Actually, DEDTOU is a win-win game both for the demand and supply sides. DEDTOU is applied on a ten units test system and results indicate the effectiveness of the proposed model.

Towards the New World Order: Theoretical Interpretations and Practical Implementations

The problem of political and economic regulation of contemporary global transformations, taken in the context of the New World Order discourse, attracts attention in Russia and abroad alike. Considering this problem, British analysts Ken Booth and Nickolas Wheeler underline three major approaches to security dilemma, namely, fatalist, mitigator, and transcender logics. Followers of the fatalist approach (neo-realists, globalists) believe that world order is a zero-sum game, where interstate interactions are mostly confrontational, and their pattern depends on the current balance of power. Mitigators (neo-liberals, functionalists, constructivists, etc.) insist that the emerging world order is a win-win game, where nations opt for investing some of their sovereignty into newly created international institutions (regimes and organizations), hoping that conventional rules adopted by them would help to decrease international uncertainty, which otherwise might lead to confrontation. Transcenders (neo-Marxists, feminists, anarchists, federalists, etc.) consider the existing world order an archaic one, calling for a new, fair and humane pattern of international relations. According to their logic, the new world order is the end of the game among sovereign states, because it derives from the idea of humankind not divided by national boundaries but united into a global transnational society.

Research on operating mechanism for creative products supply chain based on game theory

In order to solve the problems of insufficient resource utilization, high cost and overstocking of commodities in the creative products supply chain, this paper establishes a supply chain enterprises operating mechanism model from the perspective of game theory, uses repeated game, individual game and group of evolutionary game, verifies the importance of cooperation in creative products supply chain through theoretical proof and examples, puts forward the method to make a win-win game party, and finds the way to coordinate supply chain.
