DEVELOPMENT OF WEB-BASED LEARNING MEDIA ON CLASS X VIRUS MATERIAL

Based on the results of the pre-survey that has been carried out at SMA Negeri 1 Kotagajah, a problem was found, namely the use of learning media that is lacking during teaching and learning activities on biological material including virus material. In teaching and learning activities, the educational media used are limited to Student Worksheets (LKPD) and Power Point. This resulted in some students having difficulty understanding the information and losing interest in biology. Scientists then developed a learning platform based on viral content available to Class X students via the Internet. The five stages of the ADDIE model are analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. Percentage results of 80%, 87%, 94% and 85% were obtained from material expert, media expert, teacher and student validators. Students indicated that the use of web-based learning materials about viruses was "very feasible".

Developing a Web-Based Descriptive Text Writing Material for Tenth-Grade Students

This study aimed to develop a teaching material which is applicable in teaching descriptive text writing for tenth-grade students of Senior High School. Branch’s ADDIE model was used in the study in developing the instructional teaching material. Due to certain situation during the process of this study, the ADDIE model was only implemented for three phases only namely analyzing, designing, and developing (ADD). The purpose of designing the final product was to support teachers in teaching descriptive text writing. A need analysis was conducted in this research to gain information regarding the teacher and students’ needs. The designed product of the research was a web-based teaching material in form of a learning website. The developed web-based teaching material consisted of three chapters. It covers the descriptive text learning, grammatical aspect of descriptive text, and descriptive text writing lesson. There are activities on the lesson and a test for each chapter to measure students’ comprehension of related chapter. Furthermore, a validation made by the teacher displayed a percentage of 87% on the first questionnaire and 88% for the second. Both of the result can be labelled as “Very Good”. The result indicated that the designed product is suitable to be used in classroom to teach descriptive text writing for tenth-grade student of senior high school.Keyword: Developmental Research, Web-Based Learning Material, Descriptive Text Writing

Policy Patterns and The Application of Digital Literacy in Increasing Students' Religious Motivation

This article explains the implementation of digital school management through the Smart Classroom (SCR) program. This qualitative research approach uses descriptive analysis—data collection techniques through observation, documentation, and in-depth interviews. The study results show that a digital school is an educational institution with a learning process using digital equipment, books, and applications. Digital school management is establishing and implementing IT-based programs through the Smart Classroom program using software and hardware products. Second, Smart Classroom Learning at Al-Azhar 37 Islamic Middle School Pekanbaru uses an iPad. Educators create web-based, Google, and application-based learning materials. They were giving assignments/homework through tests and quizzes. Assessment of exam results through the Google form, students make important notes equipped with photo and video features that can be shared using the notes application as a collaboration with friends. This implementation has received support from the school by facilitating internet access via Wi-Fi hotspots within 24 hours. Third, the urgency of Smart Classrooms in educational institutions will make learning more effective, innovative, fun, comprehensive, and time efficient. The implications of this research are very beneficial for all elements of the school because it can facilitate the current student-centered learning process.

The effects of web-based language learning on university students' translation proficiency

Web-based language learning materials have been among the preferred materials to be used by English language instructors since they are plentiful, straightforwardly accessed, user-friendly, and most importantly, are provided for free. This study investigates the effects of learning the simple perfect tense translation in three different English translation classes which applied three different modes of teaching, which were the traditional face-to-face method, integrative method, and web-based learning method. Furthermore, it is aimed to examine the effects of proficiency level in each mode of teaching and also to determine the best method for learning translation. The research is a quantitative study and the design is a pre-and post-test quasi-experimental design. The pretest-posttest study involved 87, third-year undergraduate students, that is 52 advanced and 35 intermediate students. All groups were exposed to one mode of teaching only for 4 weeks. The results indicated that there is a significant difference in both tests for all modes used.

Designing Web-Based Learning Materials

Online courses are nowadays well established forms of learning and teaching all over the world. They are used as supporting courses of traditional classes, as complementary courses of blended courses or pure distance courses. In all cases they must be designed well to attract and motivate students. Therefore, this paper focuses on the analysis of web-based study materials and their impact on learning.

How to motivate students to do a course project in design of experiments course from a web-based virtual learning material?

PurposeThe purpose of this study is to develop a practical method for training students how to conduct statistical analysis and do a course project in design of experiments (DOEs) course through the Web-based virtual catapult simulation.Design/methodology/approachA step-by-step sequential DOE process for investigating the effects of controllable factors on quality characteristic responses was presented as a guideline for conducting a DOE course project. Each team was assigned to create an innovative teaching material and work on the term report by following the recommended guidelines for designing experiments through the Web-based virtual catapult simulation. Hypothesis was defined to test whether doing a course project based on this approach would impact students’ learning outcome.FindingsThe Web-based virtual material was an alternative technique for interactive teaching that could improve students’ understanding and achievement in DOE course projects. There was a significant difference in student learning and understanding before and after doing on the course project through the Web-based virtual catapult simulation. The students had improved communication and teamwork skills after following the recommended procedure for practicing DOEs.Practical implicationsMost students could effectively conduct designing experiments, carry out designed experiments, analyze data and gain valuable teamwork experience. After learning the DOE approach based on the catapult simulation, they enjoyed working on their course projects deploying to the innovative toys and other real-life situations with real measurements.Originality/valueThe use of Web-based virtual material, including catapult simulation, was an alternative technique for interactive DOE teaching to improve the students’ understanding and achievement in DOE course projects.

Accompaniment in Creating Web-Based Learning Material Resources for English Teachers

The objective of this paper is to describe on how to assist the English Teachers in creating web-based learning material. There are three main steps in this community service project; preparation, implementation and evaluation. The recipients of this community service project were English teachers in Siabu District, from Primary School teachers, First Level Secondary School teachers, to Upper Secondary School teachers who were officially invited through the Head of Education of Siabu District. From this community service activities, activist found that this community service activity has a positive impact on the progress of education in the district of Siabu and also to the State of Indonesia globally. Therefore, this kind of project is suggested to be implemented in many areas in Indonesia.

WEB-BASED LEARNING MATERIAL FOR RAISING STUDENTS’ LEVELS OF AWARENESS AND USE OF READING STRATEGIES

Being active readers is beneficial to students’ academic success. To reach that, students need to understand what the reading strategies are, and how, when, and where to use them. Unfortunately, most of the students in ITK are not using the strategies effectively, which then hinders their comprehension of English texts. To help improve students' reading ability through the usage of reading strategies, this research proposed to develop a web-based learning material containing materials and exercises in using reading strategies in an academic reading activity. The development model of the e-learning material is following the 4-D model: define, design, develop, and dissemination. The data collected were in the form of feedbacks from peer-review (qualitative) and developmental testing (quantitative). The feedback from peer-review contained suggestions for the improvement of the website; the testing resulted in the score for the web. With the average score of 3.63 on the Likert scale, most students believed that this website would be able to help them become more familiar with the use of reading strategies in academic reading.

Physical Therapists Are Key to Hip Surveillance for Children with Cerebral Palsy: Evaluating the Effectiveness of Knowledge Translation to Support Program Implementation

Aims Physical and occupational therapists play a key role in the implementation of hip surveillance for children with cerebral palsy (CP) in British Columbia, Canada. We aimed to develop and assess a knowledge translation strategy to support the implementation of a provincial hip surveillance program. Methods Pediatric therapists were invited to participate in an anonymous survey assessing hip surveillance knowledge and learning needs. Based on these results, educational materials were developed. Two years later, one year following the launch of the hip surveillance program, the survey was repeated to assess learning, knowledge use, and barriers to enrollment. Results The initial survey was completed by 102 therapists; 74 therapists completed the second survey. Multifaceted educational strategies, including web-based learning, in-person education, email notifications, and print materials that targeted knowledge gaps were developed. Upon re-evaluation, knowledge increased on all questions. At follow-up, 45 therapists had enrolled a child, indicating knowledge use. Barriers to enrollment included lack of a CP diagnosis, parents or physicians not agreeing to enrollment, time requirements, and lack of space to complete the clinical exam. Conclusions Targeted knowledge translation strategies were successful in meeting the educational requirements of a large group of therapists in a vast geographic area.

Chemistry Education in Bosnia and Herzegovina

In this paper, the education system in Bosnia and Herzegovina is presented in the light of current state-level legislation, with an emphasis on chemistry education at the primary, secondary and tertiary level. The consequences of the last war in our country still persist and are visible in many aspects of everyday life, including the education system, thus limiting the efforts of education professionals to follow international trends in education. There are three valid curricula for primary education at the national level, each of which differs in the national group of school subjects. Teaching methods are common for all three curricula and are mainly teacher-oriented. The situation is similar with regard to secondary education. Study programmes at the university level are organised in accordance with the Bologna principles. The programmes are made by the universities themselves and approved by the corresponding ministry of education. Chemical education research in Bosnia and Herzegovina is mainly conducted at the University of Sarajevo. It deals with (1) the problems of experimental work in chemistry teaching, resulting in more than 60 experiments optimised for primary and secondary school, (2) integrating the knowledge of chemistry, physics and physical chemistry for university students, with regard to students’ difficulties observed during university courses and potential solutions, and (3) the effectiveness of web-based learning material in primary school chemistry for the integration of macroscopic and submicroscopic levels. For the purpose of this paper, official documents for primary, secondary and higher education have been used.

Training Need Assessment of Teaching, Research, Extension and Administrative Competencies of Assistant/Associate Professors of Veterinary Colleges of KVAFSU

The aim of this research was to assess training need of teaching, research, extension and administrative competencies of assistant/associate professors from four veterinary colleges namely Bengaluru, Bidar, Hassan and Shimoga. An exploratory research design was adopted for the study. A total of 60 respondents were selected, fifteen each from four colleges. The result from the study revealed that majority of the respondents are in need of training on design of web-based learning materials (85.00%) in teaching component, in research component majority are in need on skills in formulation of research proposals (88.33%), majority are in need on training of skills in transfer of technology (70.00%) in extension component and in administrative component majority are in need on skills in management of organizational resources (83.33%). Need based training on different component has to be organized by the university. The university should consider the most preferred training methods identified in this study while developing training strategies and while training the professionals of the university. Short duration programmes, repetition of the existing programmes and conducting the training during vacations will help the staff to attend the programmes without affecting their regular works.

The Effect of e-Learning Strategy at Primary School Level on Understanding Structure and States of Matter

Students’ achievements and the percentages of misconceptions were compared between experimental groups taught using web-based learning material (WBLM) used as homework after conventional teaching at school (EG1), and at school settings (EG2) with the control group (CG) taught with the teacher-centred approach. The results indicated that WBLM has potential in teaching since EG1 and EG2 students had higher achievements than CG students did on tests of knowledge. Appropriate statistical procedures were used to control the effects of students’ verbal and non-verbal intelligence, as well as their prior knowledge regarding the Particulate Nature of Matter. Certain misconceptions were also revealed in all groups of students, mostly related to transferring macroscopic properties to submicroscopic particles.

Needs analysis of web-based earth and space science learning materials for high school students

The purpose of this study analyses needs of learning materials on Earth and Space Science for high school students. Earth and Space Science is one of the subjects taught in Physics. Often, the implementation of earth and space science learning is not conveyed and rarely available in other subject. The survey method has been utilized with questionnaires in three high schools around the Bandung zone. The number of respondents is 158 high school students and 3 high school teachers. The data has been obtained that earth and space science is more interesting if the learning materials was available. High school students often access the internet in term of collecting alternative learning resources beside teachers teaching. In conclusion, the researchers intend to develop web-based teaching materials for high school students. This web-based learning material for high school students has been developing.

USA Public School Educators’ Perceptions of Electronically Delivered Professional Development Modules

School meetings, which today are often called teacher workshops are to conduct teacher professional development which may still be desired by today’s teachers. This study was to discover if technological alternatives might be desired by one public school system in the USA. Choices included delivery of professional development via web-based learning material, CD-ROM, and PDF documents as downloadable files for print from the Internet. A questionnaire was designed to find out which media was selected most often for delivery of their own professional development. The study material for this investigation served as professional development modules. Data from surveys were collected to discover why they select them, and whether or not they prefer those modes of professional development to the more traditional modes previously experienced such as teacher meetings/workshops. There were 28 participants in this study. To assess the role of the media for delivery of professional development via learning modules. Descriptive statistics were used to identify demographics and patterns in the educators’ preferences and perceptions. A major conclusion of the study included the medium selected most often was online (82% of respondents)

THE CLOUD COMPUTING – AN APPLICATION OF GOOGLE APPS IN E-LEARNING

Cloud computing is the next stage in the web service evolution, providing computing power, applications, business processes etc., delivered as a service on demand. Nowadays the online service delivery progresses and gets into different areas of life. The information and communication technologies thrust permanently in the education. It is quite natural for the cloud computing to find their application.In a cloud computing system, there's a significant workload shift. Local computers have no longer to run applications. Instead of them the network of computers, which forms the cloud, handles it. Besides, the hardware and software requirements on the user's computer decrease. The only thing that the user needs to run the cloud computing service is a Web browser and an Internet connection.E-learning is popularized and enforced in many training institutions, especially in the distance and part-time learning. It is universal and can be used both in the education process and in training employees, enhancing their qualification, competence check, and more.In the paper is discussed the cloud model, which has five essential characteristics, three service models and four deployment models.Google Apps is popular public Software as a Service (SaaS) cloud service model, which provides software applications developed by Google. The Google Apps package includes communication tools – Gmail, Calendar, Hangout and Google+, personal disk space, which can be shared – Drive, applications for collaborative work – Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms and Sites. All applications are costless after free registration and login to the platform. The Google Apps can be used to develop shared Web-based learning materials. The main advantage is that they are free, accessible at any time, from anywhere and any device. Another feature is that they do not have specific hardware and software requirements. A device with an Internet connection and a browser is enough.A detailed overview of Google Apps tools is made in the article and their application in the e-learning is proposed. In conclusion of the study is summarized that the Google Apps package can be: 1) used to prepare and share learning materials; 2) used to create knowledge tests, quizzes and receive any feedback information; 3) used for collaborative work with the tools; 4) used to manage and share events calendar, timetables, to-do-lists and more; 5) used for practical exercises to work with office tools. All this is free and publicly accessible at any time, from any device.

Development of Moodle Application on the Subject of Fungi as a Biological Learning Resource for High School Students

This study aimed to develop a web-based learning materials using Moodle Application. This was a Research and Development study. The data were collected using needs analysis questionnaire, pre-test/post-test, student responses questionnaire, and experts validation. The development process was carried out using ADDIE model (Analyze, Development, Design, Implemantation, Evaluation). The result showed that all expert judgments were on satisfaction category. The content expert gave 80,23%, the learning media expert gave 80,7%, while the development expert agree in the point of 75% and teacher as user prospectus gave agreement on 80%.

IMPROVING BASIC ENGLISH SKILL OF POLBENG FIRST SEMESTER STUDENTS BY USING WEB-BASED LEARNING MATERIALS

Abstract: The aims of this study was to describe the learning atmosphere when the implementation of Web-based learning materials and to find out how the improvement of the students’ basic skill during the implementation of Web-based learning materials. This was classroom action research type of research. The participants of this research were the Business Administration students of State Polytechnic Bengkalis. This research was conducted in two cycles by following the procedure of action research, i.e. planning, implementing, observing, and reflecting. In collecting the data, the researcher used observation, interview, questionnaire, and test. The data were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. The qualitative data were analyzed using Interactive Model of Data Analysis as propounded by Matthew M. Miles and A.M. Huberman. The results of the research showed that the learning atmosphere also improved. The class became more active, confident, and enjoyable. Furthermore, a Web-based learning material was able to improve the students’ Basic English Skill. It was proven by the increase of the students’ mean score from 41.22 in pre-test to 46.74 in cycle 1, and 49.92 in cycle 2. This result shows that the use of Web-based learning materials has proven to be an effective way in teaching-learning of Basic English skill.
