The Relationship Between Knowledge and Attitudes and Waste Management Behavior at SMPN 31 Medan

Introduction: Indonesia does not yet have an appropriate waste processing system to deal with the increasing amount of various types of waste, and awareness regarding waste processing has become an important topic in the academic environment, especially among students. Objective: This study aims to determine the relationship between knowledge and attitudes and solid waste processing behavior in students at SMPN 31 Medan. Method: This research uses quantitative descriptive methods to describe and analyze certain characteristics with a student population of 459 and a sample of 82 students. Results: The research results show a significant relationship between students' knowledge and behavior towards waste processing with a p-value of 0.014, and there is a significant relationship between students' attitudes and student behavior towards waste processing with a p-value of 0.018. Conclusion: from the results above, it is concluded that knowledge and attitudes play an important role in waste processing behavior at SMPN 31 Medan. Good knowledge about waste processing can influence human behavior in disposing of waste, while a positive attitude towards waste sorting is also related to good behavior in sorting waste. Suggestion: It is hoped that all teaching staff will increase supervision, and students are also expected to comply with applicable rules and regulations and display a good attitude towards the environment.

Performance Evaluation of Green Supply Chain Management in Canned Fish (Sardines) Production Unit: A Case of Indonesia

Indonesia's fishing industry, especially in East Java Province, shows great potential but also harms the environment. CV. Pasific Harvest Surabaya (CV. PHB) is a fish canning industry in Banyuwangi Regency, which is currently facing problems such as the supply of raw materials, which continues to decline; the company has not measured and planned the total consumption of energy, fuel, water and the problem of workers who have not received environmental training. Although a waste processing system is in place, the production process still carries the risk of environmental pollution. The researchers collected data through observation, interviews, literature studies, and paired comparison questionnaires. The results of the research reveal that CV. PHB manages three supply chain flows with four supply chain actors. The final performance score is 81.77, with 24 verified KPIs. The KPIs that need performance improvement are packaging time until the product is picked up by the delivery service (D4), time for handling customer complaints (R3), and environmental training for workers (E1).

Analysis of the Circular Economy's Implementation at Maggot House Mengger Sub-District Bandung City

In 2023, the city of Bandung faced serious problems because the Sarimukti landfill caught fire and the city of Bandung experienced a "waste emergency". One of the programs launched is the construction of maggot houses in every sub-district in Bandung City with a target of processing 1 ton of organic waste/day. Mengger Sub-district is one of the sub-districts that received assistance to build maggot house. The land area of ​​the maggot house is 150 m2, managed by 4 officers. This study aims to identify various problems that must be resolved first so that the circular economy concept can be implemented at the Mengger Maggot House. The study was carried out by conducting observations, detailed surveys and in-depth interviews with various stakeholders in Mengger Sub-district. Observations were carried out to see the level of compliance of residents in sorting, a detailed survey was carried out on the waste collection and processing system at the maggot house, and in-depth interviews were conducted with assistants from Bandung City Environmental Service Office (DLH), maggot buyers, sub-district officials, maggot house officers, neighbourhood (RT) and hamlet (RW), and waste collector. Based on the results of observations, it was found that only some residents carry out sorting consistently, a collection system already exists in each RT/RW but they have not implemented a segregated waste collection system, and there is no system for transporting waste from the RW to the maggot house so that the amount of organic waste entering the maggot house is still low, no electricity and clean water, no choppers, leaks in the fly cage, and no diversification in maggot products. Through various socialization activities and Focus Group Discussions with all stakeholders, various agreements were obtained to resolve various problems at the Mengger Maggot House.

Investigating the Operational Feasibility of Waste Management at Integrated Waste Management Sites in Balikpapan City

Referring to the Balikpapan City Medium-Term Development Plan for 2021-2026, the percentage of waste transported to the Final Waste Processing Site (FWPS) is 75.45%, which is higher than the percentage of waste management. As of now, there are 2 Integrated Waste Management Sites (IWMS) in Balikpapan, namely MRF and ITF. Based on data from 2019, waste management at MRF decreased by 51.14%. Meanwhile, ITF only utilizes 25.98% - 31.31% of total incoming waste, with the remainder being sent to Manggar FWPS. This decline in performance is also related to the deteriorating condition of approximately 62% of waste management infrastructure in Balikpapan, so evaluation of the operational aspects of waste management becomes a crucial factor in addressing this issue. In addition, the ideal condition of waste management according to standards serves as the main indicator in assessing the performance of waste management. This research aims to evaluate operational aspects of waste management at Balikpapan IWMS by applicable regulations. Analysis methods used are mass balance analysis and operational performance analysis. Research findings show that waste management at IWMS Balikpapan City can reduce the volume of waste in Balikpapan City. However, the operational performance of MRF did not meet established standards, especially in terms of waste removal and processing systems, with a score of 19. On the other hand, ITF is considered sufficient by provisions of PUPR Minister Regulation Number 03 of 2013 and Indonesian National Standard 19-2454-2002 with a score of 23.

Identification of N, P, and K in Solid Waste from Palm Flour Production and Their Benefits as Organic Compost Fertilizer Ingredients

The palm flour manufacturing industry produces a lot of liquid waste and solid waste. The absence of a waste processing system means the waste is dumped around the production house. The large amount of solid waste that is dumped every day causes a buildup of waste on riverbanks. The flow of river water is disturbed, pollutes the river ecosystem, and the smell is unpleasant. The research aims to identify the content of N, P, and K elements in palm flour solid waste. The data obtained will be used as a basic reference for using palm flour solid waste as an alternative compost material considering that most of the Pucang Miliran village area is an agricultural area. The research was carried out by taking a sample of 1 kg of sugar palm flour solid waste and testing it for the content of N, P, and K. Data from laboratory tests were analyzed descriptively supported by a literature study. The research results showed that palm flour solid waste contained Nitrogen (N) of 194.227 mg/Kg, Phosphorus (P) of 410.270 mg/Kg, and Potassium (K) of 832.382 mg/Kg. The presence of the three nutrients N, P, and K in large enough quantities can be considered that palm flour solid waste can be a good alternative material for making organic fertilizer/compost. Further research is needed to determine the comparison and combination of various compost material compositions to produce the best palm solid waste compost.

Technical Guidance on The Integration of Cattle and Food Crops in Sindang Kasih Village, South Konawe District

This technical guidance aims to provide understanding to cattle breeders regarding the benefits of integrating cattle and food crops in one area so that participants are motivated and encouraged to carry out integration between cattle and food crops. This technical guidance was implemented at Sindang Kasih Village, West Ranomeeto District. Implementation of technical guidance uses lecture and discussion methods. The tools and materials used are vehicles, cell phones, and laptops. In general, Cattle Farmers in Sindang Kasih Village already understand the integration of cattle and food crops and its benefits and are committed to implementing this integration as indicated by the ability of all participants to answer questions correctly at the end of the activity session (100%). The challenges and problems of beef cattle farming include maintenance and waste processing systems. Integrating livestock with food crops in Sindang Kasih Village has been implemented well. The livestock in Sindang Kasih needs to be further improved to become one of the breeding and fattening centers in Southeast Sulawesi.

WASTE MANAGEMENT USING LEAN-GREEN APPROACH: A CASE STUDY IN A FURNITURE COMPANY

Introduction: Wooden furniture is one of Indonesia's superior products, with a low-efficiency level. However, the wooden furniture industry is often associated with intense environmental degradation and high levels of waste. In anticipating waste, a green manufacturing model proposed is Lean-Green manufacturing. This current study aims to explore the implementation of the Lean-Green model in a furniture company's waste processing system and assess the effectiveness of Lean-Green implementation. Methods: The research methodology was qualitative with the Lean-Green scoring method implemented in the supply chain of Company S. Data were collected through interviews and field observations. Results: Company S had a low score, meaning that the interaction between the Lean and Green approaches in the waste processing of the supply chain was not optimal. The Lean-Green implementation in the wooden furniture industry was effective in evaluating waste processing in the supply chain. The research findings urge the initiatives to improve the understanding and implementation of the Lean-Green concept. Conclusion and suggestion: The evaluation of the Lean-Green implementation helps the company’s manager improve the supply chain with sustainable measures.

Environmental and Technological Aspects of the Functioning of Municipal Solid Waste Recycling Complexes (on the Example of the Moscow Region)

The existing scheme, key operations and technologies used in the company for sorting and processing municipal solid waste in the Moscow region have been considered. The features of waste streams entering the waste processing system have been studied, quantitative and qualitative characteristics of the morphological composition have been presented, actual data on the composition of pollutant emissions generated at different stages of waste sorting and processing have been analyzed, the most problematic areas and priority eco-toxicants have been identified.

Environmental communication on the problem of recycled waste processing in the Sumurbatu Final Disposal Site (TPA) is an important discourse in formulating solutions to environmental problems that occur. The research location was determined in the Sumurbat u TPA area for several reasons, among others, the location was the center for final waste disposal for all residents of the capital city of Jakarta and Bekasi City with a population of around 13 million. The volume of waste disposal, which reaches 9,000 tons per day from DKI, and 900 tons per day from Bekasi City residents, has caused environmental pollution that has been going on for a long time. Pollution occurs to the air, soil and water contained therein. The open dumping system has become a major factor in pollution, and new appropriate technology has been pursued by the Central and Regional Governments in recent years. Due to the inadequacy of the waste processing system, especially in the Sumur Batu TPA, the Ministry of Environment has crossed out the name of Bekasi City in the list of Adipura cities because the value obtained is certain to be low because the final waste handling is not good. Due to this problem, the waste recycling program is implemented by optimizing the role of communicators to encourage changes in the waste processing system approach. Through this program, it is hoped that waste will have been sorted from the source to reduce the volume that goes to final disposal. Using a qualitative approach, the researcher wants to know the implementation of environmental communication in the implementation of the program by focusing on convergence communication, namely the creation of an understanding between all stakeholders in the recycled waste management system.

Analisis Data Perencanaan untuk Sistem Pengolahan Sampah Kampus Universitas Andalas Limau Manis Padang

The waste processing performance at the Integrated Waste Processing Center of Andalas University has experienced a decline; therefore, an evaluation and development of the waste processing system are needed. This research aims to analyze planning data for the waste processing system, including waste generation analysis, composition, recycling potential, and waste characteristics. Waste samples were taken from 48 campus facilities representing office activities, academic activities, student activities, and other activities. Waste generation, composition, and recycling potential analyses were conducted in the field using gravimetric methods, while characteristic analyses were performed in the laboratory. From the research results, planning data for the campus waste generation unit was obtained at 0.0592 kg/person/hour or 0.00163 kg/m²/hour, and in volume units, it was 0.5245 liters/person/hour or 0.02945 liters/m²/hour. The waste composition consisted of 49.61% easily decomposable waste, 38.22% recyclable waste, 1% hazardous waste (B3), and 16.21% residual waste. The potentially recyclable waste includes food waste, yard/wood waste, plastic, paper, glass, and metal, with an average potential of 89%. Waste characteristics include a specific gravity of 0.058, moisture content of 22.18%, volatile matter content of 59.95%, fixed carbon content of 12.09%, ash content of 5.79%, C/N ratio of 30.28, biodegradability of 54.06%, and a fly population of 2 flies/m². Campus waste has the potential to be processed through composting, Black Soldier Fly (BSF) bioconversion and biodrying for easily decomposable waste, and it can be sold to the informal sector for recycling.

This research aims to find factors that influence the characteristics of flats with a Balinese architectural perspective and plan a design model for apartments in Bali based on the concept of Balinese architecture. The research method used is a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods. The first stage uses quantitative methods, and the second stage uses qualitative methods. The research sample was taken using nonprobability random sampling with a sample size of 200 respondents. Data analysis was done through univariate analysis by presenting tables, pictures, and graphs. Designing sustainable logistics networks for classified municipal solid wastes collection and transferring with multi-compartment vehicles

The success stories of waste classification and processing systems in reducing emissions and conserving natural resources have inspired many countries to adopt similar systems. The current research on waste collection logistics network design is limited in capturing the features of waste classification systems. The environmental objectives, the use of multi-compartment vehicles to separate waste and reduce driving distance, and the joint decision-making of transfer station locations and vehicle routes are not integrated into the same optimization framework. This study aims to investigate the strategic planning of transfer stations and vehicle fleet dispatch in a city-level classified waste collection system. The problem is formulated as an integer programming problem that minimizes total travel costs while considering greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. To solve the problem effectively, we propose a fast hybrid heuristic algorithm based on column generation (CG) and Adaptive Large Neighborhood Search (ALNS). The proposed algorithm framework is tested on various instances and applied to a real-sized logistics network in Chengdu, China. Computational results indicate that the proposed algorithm achieves high efficiency while maintaining a satisfactory gap. The results confirm that introducing the waste classification system can help reduce total travel costs and greenhouse gas emissions.

90 Bioaerosol Exposure in Automated and Traditional Waste Sorting Plants

Abstract The waste management sector takes a central part in the transition towards circular economy and is subject to technological progress and the implementation of new work operations. Traditional waste collection and processing systems are characterized by numerous tasks that favour waste workers’ exposure to bioaerosols, whereas exposure in modern automated waste sorting plants remains elusive. Moreover, there is still a lack of health-risk based exposure limits for most components contained in bioaerosols. We investigated occupational exposure to bioaerosols in traditional and automated waste sorting plants. The results revealed significant differences in various exposure levels, such as total dust (GM automated: 0.34 mg/m3, GM manual: 0.66 mg/m3), endotoxins (GM automated: 51 EU/m3, GM manual: 32 EU/m3) and microorganisms between and within type of plant. An assessment of the composition of air-borne fungal particles (FESEM based immunodetection method) showed significantly increased levels of fungal spores at automated waste sorting plants (GM automated: 1.2 × 105 spores/m3, GM manual: 2.1 × 104 spores/m3). Elevated total dust levels and concentrations of submicronic fungal fragments were significantly correlated to the occurrence of symptoms of the extrathoracic region, such as congested nose, in exposed workers. The results of this study showed high variation in exposure levels between and within type of waste sorting plant, as well as seasonal variation for some parameters, such as total dust and endotoxins. This indicates that Norwegian waste workers are potentially exposed to high levels of dust and microorganisms that may cause adverse health effects in receptible individuals.

РЕСАЙКЛІНГ: ЄВРОПЕЙСЬКИЙ ДОСВІД ТА ЙОГО РЕАЛІЗАЦІЯ В УКРАЇНІ

Recycling is an effective method in the fight against waste and its secondary processing, which is beneficial from the point of economic and ecological components view. The article analyzes the main types of sorted waste that can be used as raw materials for secondary processing, and based on the research data of Yale University, the main European countries that are currently leaders in secondary processing are identified. The analysis schedule of the waste processing system in Europe is given. Analysis of European countries showed that Switzerland, which is the "greenest" country according to most data and indicators, can be considered a model. Based on these statements, several key components of the waste management system in Switzerland were analyzed, the participation and influence of state and regional authorities on the activities of communities for waste collection and disposal were analyzed, and examples of the control system for the implementation of these processes were also studied. The work highlights the most important components of the recycling successful implementation in the country and developed recommendations for transferring experience to the current situation in Ukraine in order to solve problems with raw materials and increase responsibility for waste. These recommendations are focused not only on aspects of improving the overall waste management system but also on the principles of customer-oriented marketing, where waste is a raw material for businesses engaged in entrepreneurial activities in the field of secondary processing. Based on the experience of the studied countries, it is also proposed to implement in Ukraine the effective components of the waste management system proven by practice, such as the development of a convenient navigation system for citizens, which will help to easily learn how to sort, what conditions and rules, where to find a collection point for certain waste. (based on the example of the existing waste management system in Switzerland). The data obtained in the work can be useful both for scientists and for those who work in fields related to recycling, waste management or waste management, community development, or enterprises that benefit them.

Waste Management Based on Maqashid Shari'ah And Circular Economy: Evidence in Blitar Regency

The study of waste management based on maqashid shari'ah and circular economy requires a study to realize wise and Islamic waste management. This research comes with the aim to find out and analyze waste management based on maqashid shari'ah and circular economy in TPST 3R Blitar Regency, namely TPST 3R "Abdi Karya mandiri" and TPST 3R "Punokawan". This research uses a qualitative approach with this type of case study research because this study examines an event that occurs today, which is related to waste management based on maqashid shari'ah and circular economy. Data excavation methods use observation, interview and documentation methods. In this study it was found that maqashid shari'ah-based waste management in TPST 3R Blitar Regency indirectly meets the five main elements of shari'ah maqashid, namely hifzh al-din, hifzh al-nafs, hifz al 'aql, hifzh hifzh al-nasl, and hifzh al-mal. Then in circular economy-based waste management at TPST 3R Blitar Regency produces sustainable and renewable products that are indirectly in accordance with the circular economy concept. This is because the waste management and processing system in the two TPST 3R has a rotating and interconnected production flow from upstream to downstream.

This article provides an economic analysis of the enterprises of the waste processing system in the Moscow region. The problems and strengths of each type of activity are identified on the basis of the largest enterprises in each sub-sector of waste processing. The analysis of economic indicators is based both on the study of industrial enterprises and on the basis of work experience at enterprises in the waste processing industry, which makes it possible to interpret financial and economic indicators in the most realistic way. As a result of the analysis, trends in the development of the waste processing industry were identified, which makes it possible to control and predict changes in the construction of a waste management system.

Energy analysis of the system of two-stage anaerobic processing of liquid organic waste with production of hydrogen- and methane-containing biogases

In recent years, public attention has been increasingly attracted to solving two inextricably linked problems - preventing the depletion of natural resources and protecting the environment from anthropogenic pollution. The annual consumption of livestock waste for biogas production is about 240 thousand m3 per year, which is 0.17% of the total manure produced at Russian agricultural enterprises. At present, the actual use of organic waste potentially suitable for biogas production is 2–3 orders of magnitude lower than the existing potential for organic waste. Currently, hydrogen energy is gaining immense popularity in the world due to the problem of depletion of non-renewable energy sources - hydrocarbons, and environmental pollution caused by their increasing consumption. Of particular interest is the dark process of producing hydrogen-containing biogas in the processing of organic waste under anaerobic conditions, which allows you to take advantage of both energy production and solving the problem of organic waste disposal. An energy analysis of a two-stage anaerobic liquid organic waste processing system with the production of hydrogen- and methane-containing biogases based on experimental data obtained in a laboratory plant with increased volume reactors was performed. The energy efficiency of the system is in the range of 1.91–2.74. Maximum energy efficiency was observed with a hydraulic retention time of 2.5 days in a dark fermentation reactor. The cost of electricity to produce 1 m3 of hydrogen was 1.093 kW·h with a hydraulic retention time of 2.5 days in the dark fermentation reactor. When the hydraulic retention time in the dark fermentation reactor was 1 day, the specific (in ratio to the processing rate of organic waste) energy costs to produce of 1 m3 of hydrogen were minimal in the considered hrt range, and amounted to 26 (W/m3 of hydrogen)/(m3 of waste/day). Thus, the system of two-stage anaerobic processing of liquid organic waste to produce hydrogen and methane-containing biogases is an energy-efficient way to both produce hydrogen and process organic waste.
