DETERMINATION OF THE PESTICIDES IN WATER USED IN THE CULTURE AND PROCESSING OF POTATOES

The contamination of water bodies by pesticide residues through direct flow, leaching and other methods has motivated the development of analytical methods for the determination of these compounds in water. A vortex-assisted liquid-liquid microextraction method followed by gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry for the determination of anilazine, linuron, prothiofos, and tebuconazole residues in water samples from the culture and processing of potatoes (Solanum tuberosum L.) was optimized. The complete factorial design and the central rotational compound design combined with the desirability function were used to evaluate and optimize the parameters of the method. The optimized conditions for extracting the pesticides were as follows: 316 µL of toluene, no sodium chloride addition, and a stirring time of 187 s. The method presented an enrichment factor of 142.4 times and good linearity, precision and accuracy, with limits of detection (LOD) of 0.005 - 0.007 mg L-1 and limits of quantification (LOQ) of 0.016 - 0.022 mg L-1. The co-extractives of the wastewater samples caused the suppression of the chromatographic response of linuron and prothiofos by 7.82 and 27.63%, respectively. The analyte concentrations in the wastewater samples from the industrial shing process, manual potato washing, and dam water were either lower than the LODs of the method or were absent.

Vortex-assisted liquid-liquid microextraction of strontium from water samples using 4',4″(5″)-di-(tert-butylcyclohexano)-18-crown-6 and tetraphenylborate.

A vortex-assisted liquid-liquid microextraction method was developed for the chromatographic determination of strontium in aqueous samples. In the method, strontium was complexed with 4',4″(5″)-di-(tert-butylcyclohexano)-18-crown-6 in the presence of tetraphenylborate as the counter anion, which increased the hydrophobicity of the ion-association complex, resulting in its improved extraction into 1-octanol. Strontium from the organic phase was stripped with nitric acid back to aqueous solution and determined by ion chromatography. The optimum microextraction conditions were as follows: 2.0mL aqueous samples with 3mM tetraphenylborate; 150μL of 1-octanol as the extractant phase with 10mM DtBuCH18C6; vortex extraction time for 10s; centrifugation at 6000rpm for 4min; stripping by 0.1M nitric acid. Under the optimum conditions, the detection limit for strontium was 0.005mg/L. The calibration curves showed good linearity over the range between 0.01 and 2.5mg/L. Intra- and interday precisions of the present method were satisfactory with relative standard deviations of 1.7 and 2.1%, respectively.

Vortex-Assisted Liquid–Liquid Microextraction Combined with HPLC for the Simultaneous Determination of Five Phthalate Esters in Liquor Samples

A vortex-assisted liquid–liquid microextraction (VALLME) method using hexanoic acid as extractant followed by high-performance liquid chromatography–diode array detection was developed for the extraction and determination of five phthalate esters (PAEs) including bis-methylglycol ester (DMEP), benzyl butyl phthalate (BBP), dicyclohexyl phthalate (DCHP), di-n-butyl phthalate (DBP), and di-n-octyl phthalate (DNOP) from liquor samples. In this method, hexanoic acid was employed as extraction solvent, because its density is lower than water. And vortex mixing was utilized as a mild emulsification procedure to reduce emulsification time and improve the effect of extraction. Under the studied conditions, five phthalate esters were successfully separated within 20 min and the limits of detection were 2.3 ng mL−1 for DMEP, 1.1 ng mL−1 for BBP, 1.9 ng mL−1 for DCHP, 1.2 ng mL−1 for DBP, and 1.5 ng mL−1 for DNOP, respectively. Recoveries of the PAEs spiked into liquor samples were ranged from 89 to 93 %. The precisions of the proposed method were varied from 1.6 to 2.6 % (RSD). The VALLME method has been proved to have the potential to be applied to the preconcentration of the target analytes. Moreover, the method is simple, high sensitivity, consumes much less solvent than traditional methods and environmental friendly.

Extraction of pesticides in water samples using vortex-assisted liquid–liquid microextraction

A simple solvent microextraction method termed vortex-assisted liquid–liquid microextraction (VALLME) coupled with gas chromatography micro electron-capture detector (GC-μECD) has been developed and used for the pesticide residue analysis in water samples. In the VALLME method, aliquots of 30 μL toluene used as extraction solvent were directly injected into a 25 mL volumetric flask containing the water sample. The extraction solvent was dispersed into the water phase under vigorously shaking with the vortex. The parameters affecting the extraction efficiency of the proposed VALLME such as extraction solvent, vortex time, volumes of extraction solvent and salt addition were investigated. Under the optimum condition, enrichment factors (EFs) in a range of 835–1115 and limits of detection below 0.010 μg L −1 were obtained for the determination of target pesticides in water. The calculated calibration curves provide high levels of linearity yielding correlation coefficients ( r 2) greater than 0.9958 with the concentration level ranged from 0.05 to 2.5 μg L −1. Finally, the proposed method has been successfully applied to the determination of pesticides from real water samples and acceptable recoveries over the range of 72–106.3% were obtained.
