The Case of Distance Learning Modalities Among Technical Vocational Students in One State College in The Philippines

This study discusses the perception of the Bachelor of Technical-Vocational Teacher Education (BTVTEd) students during the implementation of distance learning along with their specialization courses in Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges (CSPC). This study aimed to generate students' learning experience and determine factors affecting the teaching-learning process and the implementation of the distance learning modality of CSPC. This study utilized a descriptive method of research. An adapted survey questionnaire was used to gather the data, and a weighted mean was employed to analyze and determine the factors affecting students’ performance in the distance learning modality. This study revealed that the students rated an overall rating of 2.95 with a verbal interpretation of Agree along with computer expertise, the flexibility of distance learning, the usefulness of distance learning, and distance learning satisfaction. This means they were satisfied with the teaching-learning process they experienced in their major courses. Thus, the researcher recommended reinforcing its programs along with the new normal approaches in education to achieve its vision of providing the best polytechnic education to its students by continuously creating opportunities such as training and seminars for the teaching staff and students to be fully equipped with the necessary skills for distance learning and the digital advancements in education.

Students’ Performance and Perceptions of Authentic E-Learning Activities in English Intercultural Learning

The study aims to investigate the influence of implementing nine real e-learning components in an online English intercultural course on improving the performance of vocational college students in China. There were 92 students involved in the course spanning thirteen weeks that comprised various task elements of group discussions, information gathering, online communication, and group reflection on the Chaoxing platform. Data were collected through performance data logging, questionnaires on the perception of authentic learning, and interviews. Qualitative and quantitative data results show that the students have improved their performance, with positive feedback on the life-relevant effect of learning activities. This research provides a humanistic perspective for online intercultural English education as it focuses on the fact that the integration of real-life activities during the English intercultural course is necessary for students' performance improvement

Differential Gender Effect of Technical and Vocational Education Students’ Human Capital on Long-term Economic Growth in Nigeria

From a gender view point, this study examines the relationship between the human capital of technical and vocational education students and the fundamental principles of long-term economic growth in Nigeria. The study used a correlational survey research approach. The study was directed by four research questions, and four null hypotheses were developed. The population for the study consisted of all 400 level undergraduate students (N = 286) of technical and vocational education in Federal and State-owned Universities in South-South geopolitical zone of Nigeria. The population was of a manageable size, thus there was no sampling. Data was gathered via a questionnaire. Three research experts- two from Ambrose Alli University in Ekpoma, the Department of Vocational and Technical Education, and one from the Measurement and Evaluation University of Benin in Benin City, Edo State validated the instrument. The instrument's dependability was assessed using Cronbach alpha reliability, and a reliability coefficient of 0.85 was found. In order to address these inquiries, bivariate correlation was utilized. Multiple regression analysis and analysis of variance were used to examine the hypotheses. The results showed that, fundamental values and both general and particular human capital were positively correlated long-term growth. Students in technical and vocational education, whether male and female, encounter nearly the same kinds of human capital overall. Investigation of Differentiated Instruction Model ESP Based on Students’ Needs at Vocational High School in Palembang

This study investigates the application of differentiated instruction (DI) models in English for Specific Purposes (ESP) classrooms at vocational high schools in Palembang, focusing on students’ linguistic and vocational needs. Using a systematic literature review (SLR) following PRISMA guidelines, the research analysed 15 articles from Scopus, ERIC, Google Scholar, and Web of Science. The findings reveal that DI strategies are inconsistently applied, with teachers often facing challenges due to large class sizes, insufficient training, and resource limitations. However, when implemented effectively, DI has been shown to improve student engagement and learning outcomes. The study identifies best practices for enhancing DI in vocational ESP settings, emphasizing the need for curriculum alignment, task variety, and professional development to address the unique needs of vocational students. Recommendations include providing ongoing teacher training and better resources to optimize DI models in such contexts.

Resilience in 3rd grade Muhammadiyah Vocational High School students: The impact of achievement emotions

Third-year students at Vocational High School must meet many academic demands towards the end of their study period. These include fieldwork practices, report writing, attending sessions, taking tests, and preparing for exams and higher education. Such demands can affect their emotions and resilience, leading to a study being conducted to assess the impact of achievement emotions on their resilience. The research method employed in this study was quantitative, using a simple linear regression analysis technique. The research sample consisted of 183 third-grade students from SMK Muhammadiyah in Bandung, selected using a cluster random sampling technique. The study utilized two measuring tools: the achievement emotions scale and the resilience scale. The data collection method was a questionnaire, which was conducted both online and offline (paper-based). The results indicated that positive and negative emotions simultaneously influence the resilience of grade 3 vocational school students. Positive emotions play a significant positive role in increasing resilience, while negative emotions can reduce it. Educators and parents can focus on nurturing positive emotions in their students to create a positive learning environment. Cognitive restructuring may be the intervention strategy to change students' appraisal of learning situations so that they evoke enjoyment and relief and then eliminate boredom, making students more resilient.

An Empirical Study on the Learning Outcomes of Vocational Students in A Smart Classroom

Background and Aim: Smart Classrooms, as a form of rich-media learning environments, were increasingly being implemented and utilized. This study aimed to investigate the impact of Smart Classrooms on learning outcomes by examining 133 first-year vocational students from a vocational college in Yunnan Province, China. The research focused on an applied writing course and compared Cognitive, Behavioral, and Affective learning outcomes between the SEEWO Smart Classroom and traditional classrooms. Materials and Methods: In this study, 133 current vocational students participated. The participants were divided into two groups: a control group and a treatment group. The control group was taught in a traditional classroom while the treatment group was taught in a Seewo Smart Classroom. After a 10-week applied writing course, the course was evaluated using the course evaluation scale that had been used in the college for many years. This evaluation explored cognitive learning outcomes, behavioral learning outcomes, and affective learning outcomes in terms of final grades, classroom behavioral performance, and student course scoring. Results: Students in Smart Classrooms showed significant improvement in final exam scores, enhancing Cognitive learning outcomes. Behavioral outcomes, including participation and attendance, also increased. Student feedback favored Smart Classrooms over traditional settings, with no significant impacts from gender, age, or admission methods observed. Conclusion: Smart Classrooms notably enhanced Cognitive and Behavioral learning outcomes, indicating improved student performance and engagement. Positive student feedback underscores their potential to enhance educational experiences and outcomes compared to traditional classrooms.

ENGLISH SPEAKING BARRIERS IN VOCATIONAL EDUCATION: A STUDY OF SMK SPP SNAKMA STUDENTS

The English-speaking skills of students at SMK SPP SNAKMA remain underdeveloped due to specific challenges in using the language within a vocational context. This study explores and analyzes these barriers to understand the underlying factors that hinder effective English communication among vocational students. Employing a qualitative approach, the research gathers data through interviews, observations, and questionnaires to capture students’ perspectives and real-time experiences with English language use. Findings reveal four primary obstacles: limited vocabulary, grammatical difficulties, speaking anxiety, and insufficient practice opportunities. These factors collectively impact students’ confidence and fluency in speaking English, which is critical in vocational settings where practical language skills are increasingly required. The study suggests that a more communicative teaching approach, combined with structured and frequent speaking practice, could significantly address these challenges. By focusing on interactive and supportive teaching methods, educators can create an environment that encourages active language use, helping students overcome barriers and develop essential English-speaking skills for their careers.

The Development of Basketball Learning Activities and Basketball Abilities Using Gamification Teaching Model for Advanced Vocational Student

Background and Aims The gamification teaching mode is a teaching method that integrates game elements into the teaching process. It stimulates students' enthusiasm and initiative and improves learning by creating a challenging and interesting play environment. In physical education teaching, the gamification teaching mode has been widely used, especially in improving students' basketball dribbling ability. Vocational students refer to those students who receive vocational education, and their learning goals pay more attention to the cultivation of practical skills and the improvement of application ability. As a common sport, basketball has important practical significance for higher vocational students. However, traditional basketball dribbling teaching is often based on technical training, which lacks enough interest and motivation, which can easily lead to the decline of students' learning interest and learning effect. Thus, the purposes of this study were 1) To develop learning activities for the gamification teaching model for the basketball course. 2)To compare basketball abilities using the gamification teaching model between the test and the post-test. And 3) To study student satisfaction with the gamification teaching model of the basketball course. Materials and Methods: The sample included 50 first-year students from Luzhou Medical Device Vocational College. In the first semester of 2023. Obtained by cluster random sampling technique. Research tools are used in lesson plans, basketball ability tests, and satisfaction questionnaires. In data analysis including percentages, means, standard deviations, and paired t-tests. Results: The results of the study were as follows; 1）The development of a gamification teaching model for the basketball course has an average suitability value for all plans equal to 4.38, which is at a high level. 2Students who studied using gamification teaching model learning activities had higher abilities of basketball post-test than pre-test at a statistical significance of.05 and 3）Students who learned using the gamification teaching model had overall satisfaction at a very high level. Conclusion: The basketball course's gamification teaching approach proved to be a highly appropriate and successful one, greatly enhancing students' post-test performance and generating exceptionally high levels of student satisfaction. According to the study, gamification can improve learning outcomes and increase student engagement in the classroom.

Adaptation of the Keirsey Temperament Sorter II (KTS-II) for the Chinese vocational university students majoring in preschool education

ABSTRACT The preschool education major in vocational universities serves as the core platform for cultivating students who are preparing to become applied early childhood teachers in China, but currently its education is too unified and ignores the differences among students. In addition, there is a lack of a measurement instrument to understand student differences. The purpose of this study is to adapt the English version of the Keirsey Temperament Sorter II (KTS-II) into the Chinese version in order to measure and understand the temperament types of Chinese vocational university students majoring in preschool education, so as to make it possible to conduct differentiated education based on student temperament differences. The adaptation procedure consists of three phases: (1) the scale translation phase; (2) the scale evaluation phase, including expert evaluation and target population pretesting; and (3) the scale testing phase, including initial testing and retesting. The results show that by removing six items from the original English version of the KTS-II, 64 items in the Chinese version of the KTS-II have been proven to have acceptable validity and reliability. The conclusions suggest that the Chinese version of the KTS-II can be used by relevant stakeholders in the preschool education major of Chinese vocational universities to distinguish student differences, and the scale adaptation procedure and methods in this study can serve as a theoretical reference for scale adaptors.

Empowering Charactered Education: The Impact of Educational Management on Islamic Guidance and Counseling for Vocational High School Students

This research aims to analyse the role of educational management in field of Islamic guidance and counselling in creating character education for students at SMKN 1 Praya. The subjects in this study were school principals, educators, and education staff. While the object used is several students. The approach is qualitative, using a qualitative design and data collection methods including documentation, interviews, and observation. The steps of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion-drawing were all included in the interactive model developed by Miles, Huberman, and Saldana for the analysis of the data. The findings indicate that the planning for guidance and counseling services is spot on, that the implementation of the services is carried out by guidance and counseling teachers in accordance with the plan because they are aware of their responsibilities, and that the implementation of the services is program-based. However, certain programs cannot be carried out effectively. It is not ideal for the principals to oversee the guidance and counseling services program. Since character education is not offered in every subject at every educational institution, this study differs from earlier studies in the field. The study's findings can serve as a guide for character development in all educational settings, particularly when it comes to practically integrating character education into all subjects and extracurricular activities

The mediating role of cognitive flexibility in home–school co-education and psychological well-being among Chinese vocational college students

ObjectiveThis study examines the mediating role of cognitive flexibility in the relationship between home-school co-education (H-SCE) and depressive symptom among vocational college students in urban and rural areas of China.MethodsUtilizing the Theory of Overlapping Spheres of Influence, this research explores how H-SCE influences depressive symptom, considering cognitive flexibility as a key mediating factor. The study utilized established scales, including the Inventory of Parent and Peer Attachment (IPPA) for parent-child relationships, the Student-Teacher Relationship Scale (STRS), the Cognitive Flexibility Inventory (CFI), and the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (CES-D10).ResultsA total of 1090 valid questionnaires were analyzed, revealing a significant negative correlation between H-SCE and depressive symptom. Cognitive flexibility was found to partially mediate this relationship, suggesting that enhanced cognitive adaptability, fostered through effective H-SCE, can reduce depressive symptom by helping students better cope with stressors.ConclusionThese findings underscore the importance of fostering strong collaboration between families and schools to enhance cognitive resilience and mitigate psychological challenges faced by vocational students, providing a foundation for targeted interventions to promote mental well-being.

Pathways from Childhood Emotional Neglect to Traditional Victimization among Secondary Vocational School Students: The Roles of Family Functioning, Psychopathy, and Socioeconomic Status.

Considering the high prevalence and detrimental developmental outcomes of traditional victimization, it is imperative to explore the influencing factors and mechanisms of traditional victimization to formulate targeted prevention interventions. Previous studies have shown a significant and positive association between childhood emotional neglect and traditional victimization. To our knowledge, there is a limited understanding of the mechanism of this association. To fill this gap, this study examined the relationship between childhood emotional neglect and traditional victimization, as well as the roles of family functioning, psychopathy, and socioeconomic status (SES) among secondary vocational school students. A cross-sectional study was carried out among 605 secondary vocational school students from grades 10 to 11 (Mage = 16.19, SD = 0.79). Participants provided data on demographic variables, childhood emotional neglect, traditional victimization, family functioning, psychopathy, and SES by answering anonymous questionnaires. The findings showed that childhood emotional neglect was not directly related to traditional victimization, but it was indirectly related to traditional victimization through the mediation of family functioning, the mediation of psychopathy, as well as the chain mediation of family functioning and psychopathy among secondary vocational school students. Additionally, SES could not moderate the relationships between childhood emotional neglect and family functioning, psychopathy, as well as traditional victimization among secondary vocational school students. These findings suggest that interventions for decreasing traditional victimization among secondary vocational school students should not only focus on reducing childhood emotional neglect but also target family functioning and psychopathy. Besides, these findings also imply SES cannot remediate the negative effects of childhood emotional neglect on secondary vocational school students.

Study on anxiety, depression, and sleep conditions and their interrelations among vocational college students during the COVID-19 pandemic management normalization

ObjectiveThis study investigates the sleep patterns among vocational college students and examines their association with anxiety and depression amidst the ongoing normalization of COVID-19 management strategies.MethodsIn the period of January to February 2022, a comprehensive survey was conducted involving a random sample of 3,300 students. By employing face-to-face interviews, data on general demographics, along with levels of anxiety, depression, and sleep quality, were meticulously gathered and analyzed.ResultsOut of the 3,049 questionnaires deemed valid for analysis, the prevalence rates for anxiety, depression, and insomnia were found to be 9.7, 14.1, and 81.9%, respectively. Through regression analysis, several factors were identified as significant predictors of insomnia: female gender, a self-perceived average or poor family economic status over the last year, moderate psychological stress due to the pandemic and its associated restrictions, extended daily screen time during the pandemic, absence of a routine physical exercise regime, significant disruption or alteration of daily life routines due to the pandemic, presence of anxiety and depression symptoms during the pandemic, and only partial restoration of normal life routines post-pandemic control measures (p < 0.001, p < 0.005, or p < 0.050). A strong correlation was observed among the symptoms of anxiety, depression, and insomnia (all p < 0.001). The correlation between stress and depression, depression and insomnia, and anxiety and insomnia were 0.824, 0.714, 0.620, respectively, (all p < 0.001).ConclusionGiven the substantial impact of abrupt or prolonged crisis events, it is imperative to develop and implement specific intervention strategies aimed at safeguarding the psychological well-being of college students.

Adolescent Sleep Quality as Critical Component of Healthy Lifestyle

Background and purpose Adolescence is a critical period for physical, emotional, and cognitive development. High-quality sleep during this phase is essential for healthy growth, emotional well-being, optimal weight, and learning. These factors significantly influence the academic achievements of young people. Purpose: to develop and experimentally justify the methodology of training basketball teams of humanitarian higher educational institutions, taking into account the psychophysiological capabilities of the players. Material and methods The sample consisted of 626 secondary vocational school students aged 17 years from the Central Slovakia region (353 girls and 273 boys). Sleep quality was assessed using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). The questionnaires were distributed electronically via Google Forms from October 2023 to March 2024. The results were analyzed with an emphasis on gender differences using the chi-square test (χ2), F-test, and independent t-test at significance levels of p<0.01 and p<0.05, respectively. Results The majority of students, both boys and girls, fell asleep between 11:00 PM and midnight. The average bedtime was 10:54 PM for girls and 10:50 PM for boys, with no significant differences between genders. Significant differences were found in wake-up times, with nearly 40% of girls waking up before 6:00 AM, compared to only 24% of boys (p<0.01). Boys experienced fewer difficulties falling asleep, with 21% falling asleep within 15 minutes (p<0.05). The average sleep duration was 6 hours and 28 minutes for girls and 6 hours and 55 minutes for boys, a statistically significant difference (p<0.01). Sleep efficiency was higher in boys (84.25%) compared to girls (78.75%). Sleep problems, daytime dysfunction, and mood changes were more frequent among girls (p<0.01). Only 28.33% of girls and 39.19% of boys had good sleep quality (p<0.01), while 17.00% of girls and 4.40% of boys exhibited severe sleep disturbances Conclusions Our findings indicate significant gender differences in sleep habits and quality, consistent with existing literature. These results highlight the need for increased attention to sleep issues among adolescents and the implementation of preventive and intervention measures to improve sleep quality, which could have a positive impact on their overall health and well-being.

Objective: This study aims to identify factors that influence the work readiness of Agricultural Vocational High School students to work in the agricultural sector. Theoretical Framework: This study explores the influence of variables of learning motivation, job information, career expectations, industrial world practices, family support, self-competence, and spiritual intelligence on the work readiness of students of Agricultural Vocational High Schools. Method: This study is a quantitative study using a questionnaire to collect data from 132 student tourists. The data were analyzed using multiple linear regression. Results and Discussion: The results of the study showed that the variables of learning motivation, job information, career expectations, industrial world practices, family support, self-competence, and spiritual intelligence had a significant influence on the readiness of Agricultural Vocational School students to work in the agricultural sector both simultaneously and partially. Research Implications: The results of the study revealed the influence of 7 variables that together affect work readiness. By knowing the influence of these 7 variables, Agricultural Vocational High Schools can apply the seven variables to improve their students' work readiness. Originality/Value: This study includes the spiritual intelligence variable as one of the variables that influences the work readiness of students at Agricultural Vocational High Schools, where this spiritual intelligence variable has not been studied.

How Can Home-School Cooperation Promote Ideological and Political Education for Secondary Vocational School Students

The ideological and political education of secondary vocational school students is of utmost importance, requiring not only scientific guidance from schools but also the active involvement of families. Currently, there are common issues in the process of school-home cooperation in secondary vocational schools, such as parents not prioritizing students’ learning, limited and superficial forms of cooperation, and communication barriers between families and schools. By analyzing the significance of school-home cooperation in the ideological and political education of secondary vocational school students, this paper provides strategic suggestions for implementing school-home cooperation in secondary vocational schools. These suggestions include promoting the correct concept of school-home cooperation, enhancing the guiding ability of family education, and establishing multiple channels for school-home cooperation. Through these efforts, a synergistic educational force can be formed to promote collaborative education between families and schools.
