ENGLISH PHRASAL VERBS USED IN THE ALBUM “JUSTICE” BY JUSTIN BIEBER

The objective of this research was to find out the types and the meaning of phrasal verb in the album “Justice” by Justin Bieber. The researcher used qualitative method as metodology and descriptive qualitative as approach. In analyzing the data, the researcher used theory of Miles et al, therewere data condensation, data display, drawing and verifying conclusion. The source of the data was taken from the album “Justice” by Justin Bieber. Based on the results, there are two types of phrasal verbs that the researcher found, namely: transitive and intransitive phrasal verbs. Transitive phrasal verbs divided into two types are: Separable and Inseparable. There were 38 data of phrasal verbs, the most common phrasal verb were inseparable 22, separable 6, and intransitive 10. And also the researcher found the meaning semantically from phrasal verbs that contain in the album “Justice” by Justin Bieber. Based on the results of the analysis conducted by the researcher, the researcher concluded that there were a lot of phrasal verbs that contain the song lyrics of the album “Justice” by Justin Bieber and the use of phrasal verb in the album “Justice” by Justin Bieber is added the knowledge about the vocabulary of the phrasal verbs.

Complex meanings shape early noun and verb vocabulary structure and learning.

Verbs and nouns vary in many ways-including in how they are used in language and in the timing of their early learning. We compare the distribution of semantic features that comprise early acquired verb and noun meanings and measure their effect on learning. First, couched in prior literature, we use semantic feature data to establish that features pattern on a hierarchy of complexity, with perceptual features being less complex than other features like encyclopaedic features. Second, given overall semantic and syntactic differences between nouns and verbs, we hypothesize that the preference for directly perceptible features observed for nouns will be attenuated for verbs. Building on prior work using semantic features and semantic networks in nouns, we find that compared to early learned nouns (N = 359), early learned verbs (N = 103) have meanings disproportionately built from complex information inaccessible to the senses. Third, we find that 16- to 30-month-old children's early noun and verb vocabularies (N = 3,804) show semantic relationships that differ in their use of this complex information from the beginning of vocabulary development. Last, we find that the complexity of nouns' and verbs' meanings affects their typical order of learning in early vocabulary development. Complexity differs in early noun and verb meanings, affects the semantic structure of children's vocabularies, and shapes the course of word learning. Effects of Task Instructions on Predictive Eye Movements and Word Recognition During Second Language Sentence Comprehension

AbstractThis study tested whether encouraging prediction enhances prediction in second language (L2) speakers. L2 English speakers listened to English sentences like The woman … will read/buy one of the newspapers while viewing the target (a newspaper) and distractor objects (a rose, a bowl, and a mango) on a screen and clicked on the target as quickly as possible. The target was predictable (read) or unpredictable (buy) from the verb meaning. Participants looked at the target longer and were quicker to move the mouse to it when instructed to predict sentence continuation than when they were merely instructed to comprehend sentences. This result held true both when the target was predictable and unpredictable. Furthermore, only when instructed to predict did the participants make more clicking errors when the target was unpredictable than predictable, which suggested that encouraging prediction can interfere with word recognition accuracy in unpredictable contexts due to reduced cognitive resources or failed predictions.

A Linguistic Analysis of two Versatile Verbs "qaťa'a" and "šarf" in the Glorious Qur'an with Reference to Their Realizations in English

This study investigates the different morphological patterns, syntactic structures and meanings of the versatile verbs "قطع" and "صرف ". This study analyses these verbs linguistically, providing a holistic view of their usage and versatility within Qur'anic texts. A qualitative approach is used to analyze data. This study aims to investigate the influence of the context on the morphological forms, the syntactic patterns and different meanings of these verbs. Furthermore, it aims to investigate how the translators transfer the linguistic characteristics of these verbs into English. To achieve the aims of the study, the researcher adopts an eclectic model. Accordingly, two verbs are chosen as the study sample. The main findings of this are as follows: firstly, the verb "قطع" is considered versatile due to its meanings only; it has different meanings with fixed syntactic structure (it is transitive in all the selected' Ayahs). The verb "صرف" is considered versatile in accordance with its meanings and syntactic structures; that is, it has different meanings and syntactic structures. Secondly, all the different meanings are considered polysemous senses of the same selected roots. Thirdly, the context is the most influential factor that makes these verbs versatile. Finally, concerning the renderings of the selected Arabic verbs into the TL, it is concluded that sometimes translators have taken the context into account and have rendered some of these verbs into the equivalently TL. Some other times, they do not render these verbs equally.

Abstract In many traditions of aspectual analysis, verbs (or, rather, predications) are sorted into Aristotelian types, and grammatical aspects are seen as operators that (a) take tenseless propositions as arguments and (b) change the eventuality type of the proposition. This tradition tells us little about how state and action clauses mean what they mean, because it does not explain how aspectual markers affect the meanings of verbs with which they combine. In the present framework, aspectually sensitive constructions selectively bind to componential verb representations, permuting them. In part 1 of this series (Michaelis, 2022), I argued that by viewing such permutations as operations on a verb’s Aktionsart structure, we can explain the relationship between input and output situation types of aspectual mappings effected by verbal morphosyntax. Research on the use of compound verbs in learning the Japanese language becomes crucial as previous studies have not fully addressed aspects related to the necessity of categorizing compound verbs clearly and accurately with a simple understanding. Although Satou (2002) divides verbs based on morphophonology, the research remains incomplete without considering morphosemantic aspects. Therefore, doubts arise regarding the result of combining the two verbs, whether the Verbs Group 1 ‘Godan Doushi’ (V1), referred to as the initial verb element 'zenkouyouso', or the Verbs Group 2 ‘Ichidan Doushi’ (V2), referred to as the final verb element 'gokouyouso', still adhere to the status of the final verb as a jidoushi or tadoushi. Kageyama's (1993) study on the meaning and usage of compound verbs [-dasu] is divided into two groups, indicating a change of place 'ichihenka' and aspect 'aspekuto,' observed in Japanese sentences. The concepts of compound verbs developed by Satou (2002) and Kageyama (2016) are combined eclectically in this research, aiming to obtain accurate data. The results of this analysis may not be well understood without additional support. Therefore, the analysis is presented with the illustrations of compound verbs 「〜dasu」「〜deru」「〜komu」, which are drawn based on example sentences. This research aims to categorize the meanings of compound verbs in Japanese and illustrate them in pictures. Thus, Japanese language learners will optimally understand the use of those verbs based on both the inherent meaning of verbs and sentence structure.

Emak-Emak Representation in Start-Up Ads: Verbal and Non-Verbal Analysis of Indonesian Moms

Women stereotyping is always interesting to be discussed. This paper is concerned with verbal and non-verbal meanings to portray Indonesian moms, or Emak-Emak represented in two official videos of GoMart and GrabMart. This study owes the framework of Halliday’s transitivity system (2014) to analyse the verbal meaning and Kress & Leeuwen’s interpretation of visual grammar to analyse the non-verbal meanings. The outcome of the verbal analysis using transitivity shows that the procedures used by GrabMart and GoMart are focused differently. While GrabMart focuses more on the material process of “doing” rather than “happening”, GoMart tends to emphasis on the relational process of “attributive” and primarily on “identification”. GoMart portrays Emak-Emak's stereotypes more objectively, whereas GrabMart is more subjective to shape the viewer's perception of them. This study offers recommendations for future research by taking a comprehensive approach to the phenomenon of gender stereotyping in online audio-visual advertisements, analyzing the interaction of verbal and non-verbal meanings in various advertisements, thoroughly examining the relevant stream of metafunctions, and proposing ideas.

This article1 is devoted to the analysis of movement terminology in LXX-Gen 12:6. The research problem aims to investigate the contextual differences in the usage of the Greek verbs διοδεύω, διαβαίνω and παρέρχομαι, which are the common counterparts of the Hebrew עָבַר in the Greek Bible. In particular, the article seeks to understand the precise meaning of the Greek verb διοδεύω used in LXX-Gen 12:6. It concludes that the choice of the very rare verb διοδεύω in LXX-Gen 12:6 can be well understood in the context of the geography and topography of Canaan and the ethnic ideology of the biblical writers. Namely, the itinerary in LXX-Gen 12:6-9 did not require Abram to overcome any natural obstacles (which would have required the use of διαβαίνω) or pass by somebody or something (best expressed by παρέρχομαι). He did, however, have to travel through a wider space - the country inhabited by a foreign and potentially hostile population.

This research is purposed to find out how the process of derivational affixes forming Arabic deverbal nouns from the Qira'atu Ar-Rasyidah Volume 1 book and what grammatical meanings arise from it. The book is a textbook at the Gontor Islamic Boarding School and its affiliates which is unique either by the story plot or the grammar. Data collection focuses on 20 texts that are familiar to beginner-level students. The data were then analyzed using the distributional method supported by the ultimate constituent analysis technique. This research results presented with informal techniques. There are 31 data of derivational affixes forming deverbal nouns in the selected texts of this book. Derivational affixes that appear based on the letter of the formers include infixes marked with the letter ا /alif/, prefixes marked with the letter م /mim/, and confixes marked with م-ة /mim-ta marbut}ah/. These affixes give rise to new grammatical meanings of the original verb, namely subjective nouns (isim fa'il), masdar nouns (isim mas}dar), objective nouns (isim maf'ul), and locative nouns (isim makan).

Comparative analysis showed linguistics emphasizes schemas' mental role in comprehension, while philosophy explores their existential significance. Results identified schemas like CONTAINER and PATH that extend metaphorically from physical interactions to abstract phrasal verb meanings. Linguistically, schemas provide a framework for analyzing structures and meanings. Philosophically, schemas reflect language's emergence from embodiment and influence on thought. Teaching implications were to connect phrasal verbs to familiar embodied experiences through schemas. Theoretical implications were that schemas are fundamental to thought and linguistic expressions. By synthesizing perspectives, this study enhanced understanding of the intricate cognitive mechanisms linking schemas to phrasal verbs. It highlighted implications for language education and advances in interdisciplinary inquiry into embodied cognition and communication.

“GALATIFICATION” OF WOMAN: AN EXAMPLE OF LITERARY NEOLOGISM AS A PATRIARCHAL ATTITUDE TO WOMAN

Throughout the centuries of patriarchal society, women have been shaped, identified and educated from a male perspective under male domination. However, in the 20th century, women began to challenge this perspective and seek their own identities. New words were introduced into the literature to replace many discriminatory and degrading concepts and definitions of patriarchy against women. To introduce a new term to literature on gender, this study focuses on the derivation of a new word through neologism based on the unnamed female statue in “Pygmalion”, the well-known story of Ovid. Based on the name “Galatea” given to the female statue in the following centuries, the word “Galatification” was derived as a noun denoting the education, shaping and identification of a woman by her husband or father, making her acceptable to that man. The word was produced in accordance with the linguistic structure of English with suffixes, and was presented as a verb meaning “to Galatify” and as a noun meaning “Galatification”. Furthermore, this concept, developed upon Ovid's story, was explained practically in William Shakespeare's famous comedy The Taming of the Shrew, written in the 1590s, through the taming of the female character Katherine by the male character Petruchio. Shakespeare used the verb “tame” in the title as a demeaning expression to imply that a woman is made acceptable to a man through transformation from a wild animal into a domestic animal. Here, Shakespeare's character Petruchio replaces Pygmalion in Ovid, and both men sculpt and shape the woman who will enter their lives like a kind of statue, and this action can be expressed as the “Galatification of woman”.

Decomposing unaccusativity: a statistical modelling approach

ABSTRACT While the two types of intransitive verbs, i.e. unergative and unaccusative, are hypothesised to be syntactically represented, many have proposed a semantic account where abstract properties related to agentivity and telicity, often conceptualised as binary properties, determine the classification. Here we explore the extent to which graded, embodied features rooted in neurobiological systems contribute to the distinction, representing verb meanings as continuous human ratings over various experiential dimensions. Unlike prior studies that classified verbs based on categorical intuition, we assessed the degree of unaccusativity by acceptability of the prenominal past participle construction, one of the unaccusativity diagnostics. Five models were constructed to explain these data: categorical syntactic/semantic, feature-based event-semantic, experiential, and distributional models. An Identification of Phrasal Verb in the Movie Entitled “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban”

Language has a great effect as an important part of human life that is always used in the daily life by human being. It is important to teach and educate the students as ESL/EFL students about phrasal verbs in order to make them understand and capable in using phrasal verbs especially when they have interaction in English. This study aims to analyze the phrasal verbs, types and the meaning of phrasal verbs that are found in the movie entitled “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban”. The instruments of this study are the researcher as the main instrument and a checklist that is used to collect the data. This study used documentation as the method of the data collection. The result of this study showed that there are 102 of phrasal verbs that were found in the movie. There were two types of phrasal verbs that were found in this study, such as transitive phrasal verb (separable phrasal verb and inseparable phrasal verb) and intransitive phrasal verb. Both of the types of the phrasal verbs were found in the movie of this study. Those are consisted of 74 of intransitive phrasal verb and 28 of transitive phrasal verb (14 of separable phrasal verb and 14 of inseparable phrasal verb).

The article considers the categorical modeling of the sublanguage of homeopathy. The sublanguage of a professional area of knowledge and/or activity is a means of verbalizing its notions, concepts and categories, and serves as a form of creation, interpretation, storage and communication of special knowledge. On the material of 1258 terms and general literary words from homeopathic dictionaries, monographs and tutorials on homeopathy, 8 universal ontological and epistemological categories are distinguished (categories of agent, state, processes, occupations, properties, values, sciences and branches, tools) and one category, characteristic for this sublanguage, – “Medication”. These particular categories are conceptually significant for this sublanguage, they form the “framework” of homeopathic knowledge. Universal categories are inherent in any scientific field, while the specific category “Medication” is a unique mental construct due to the distinctive characteristics of the concepts constituting this category and the prevailing means of their verbalization. From the point of view of verbalization of homeopathic concepts that form the identified categories, the sector-specific (general medical, anatomical, clinical) terminology has the largest share, which results from the youth of homeopathy as a professional knowledge and its status as a branch of medical science. General literary vocabulary is also present in homeopathic texts and represents a part of everyday knowledge that is inevitable for any scientific and professional field, due to the necessity to communicate not only within the framework of the “specialist – specialist” scheme, but also within the “specialist – non-specialist” scheme (for example, “doctor – patient”). The smallest share is the layer of highly specialized, homeopathic terminology per se, verbalizing unique concepts created by homeopathy. The results of the study make it possible to enrich the knowledge of the relationship between universal and specific categories in professional sublanguages and the relationship between the means of verbalization of the corresponding concepts.

Interpreting the Nasib Kulo Song of Kemas Anwar Beck in Bebaso (Semiotics Study)

A song is composed of a series of tones that form a melody and support musical elements. It uses the tones of a human voice to beautifully and meaningfully express thoughts or feelings The combination of a song with a lively poem (text) can stir up a lot of emotions in the audience and have a major effect on their soul. This study aims to explore the emotions evoked by Kemas Anwar Beck’s lyrics for his song Nasib Kulo and how his experiences show up in using language and wordplay to give his lyrics a unique and appealing quality. The study focuses on analyzing the content of the song lyrics and interpreting their meaning in a qualitative descriptive manner. A semiotic theory is used to decipher the meaning of the lyrics that were penned in polite Palembang Alus language. Moreover, a musicology approach is also used to analyze the musical form. The results show that the song Nasib Kulo uses two types of symbols, namely, verbal meaning in the form of poetry or lyrics and non-verbal meaning in the form of song elements, that is, chord progression, melody, tempo, and dynamics. As a result of the creativity of the artist, the mindset of life conception and lifestyle are reflected in his artwork. In conclusion, the song Nasib Kulo that is written in Palembang Alus language is very influential for individuals and communities. The role of emotion in acquisition of verb meaning

ABSTRACT Children’s earliest acquired words are often learned through sensorimotor experience, but it is less clear how children learn the meaning of concepts whose referents are less associated with sensorimotor experience. The Affective Embodiment Account postulates that children use emotional experience to learn more abstract word meanings. There is mixed evidence for this account; analyses using mega-study datasets suggest that negative or positively valenced abstract words are learned earlier than emotionally neutral abstract words, yet the relationship between sensorimotor experience and valence is inconsistent across different methods of operationalising sensorimotor experience. In the present study, we tested the Affective Embodiment Account specifically in the context of verb acquisition. We tested two semantic dimensions of sensorimotor experience: concreteness and embodiment ratings. Our analyses showed that more positive and negative abstract verbs are acquired at an earlier age than neutral abstract verbs, consistent with the Affective Embodiment Account. When sensorimotor experience is operationalised as embodiment, high embodiment verbs are acquired at an earlier age than low embodiment verbs, and there is further benefit for high embodiment and positively valenced verbs. The findings further clarify the role of Affective Embodiment as a mechanism of language acquisition.

Noun Phrases in Aceh Language Pantun Collections

This research aims to describe noun phrases in Acehnese pantun collections. The research method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. Data collection in this research is by browsing the Aceh Language Centre website. Qualitative Data Analysis Technique Miles and Huberman Model Miles and Huberman can be done through three stages, namely data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing / verification. The data found related to noun phrases in Acehnese pantun are first, when associated with noun + noun contained in the pantun array, there are 16 noun words containing the meaning of nouns in a pantun using Acehnese language. In the noun + verb found as many as 4 words containing the meaning of nouns and verbs. In the noun + adjective, 6 words were found containing the meaning of nouns juxtaposed with adjectives.

THE NATIONAL CORPUS OF THE KAZAKH LANGUAGE: THE SEMANTIC MARKUP ОF VERBS

Due to the fact that the development of the corpus has become one of the priorities for all languages of the modern world, the improvement of the national corpus of the Kazakh language (NCKL) is also a very relevant issue. One of the types of linguistic information reflecting the meaning of a word in the NCKL database is lexical-semantic markup. The article examines the world experience of lexical-semantic markup and provides an overview of foreign research. Analyzing the national corpus of the Russian language and the Kalmyk language, the peculiarities of the national corpus of the Kazakh language are noted. The methods of dividing verbs into lexical-semantic groups are indicated, on the basis of which the markup of the corpus is formed, i.e. the definition of codes that reveal the meaning of the word. In the study, lexical-semantic groups were classified according to the method of describing verb meanings and synthesizing based on common meanings, semantic groups of Kazakh verbs were compared with each other and with semantic groups in other languages.As a result of the research, macro- and microgroups characterizing the meaning of the verb were included in the National Corpus of the Kazakh language. In total, 100 lexical-semantic groups have been formed. The lexical-semantic markup of verbs included six different codes. Lexical-semantic markup was attached to 18200 verbs based on the corpus. The compiled lexical-semantic markup expands the information about the word in the National Corpus of the Kazakh language, allows the user to easily determine the meaning of the word, sort verbs with a similar meaning and verbs with a positive, negative connotation of meaning. It can be said that lexical-semantic markup is one of the first steps to facilitate the recognition of the semantics of words of Kazakh artificial intelligence, which is expected to be created in the near future.
