Wintertime Diurnal Variation in Absorption Coefficient of Brown Carbon Associated with the Molecular Marker of Levoglucosan

This study investigated the aerosol particle properties and light absorption properties of brown carbon (BrC) by utilizing a seven-wavelength aethalometer, and analyzed NH4+, NO3−, SO42−, K+, K, organic carbon, elemental carbon, levoglucosan, and mannosan in PM2.5. The research was conducted in a rural area of Jeonnam, South Korea, during the winter season. In addition, the dithiothreitol assay-oxidative potential normalized to 9,10-phenanthrenequinone (QDTT-OP) was investigated throughout the study period. The absorption coefficient was found to be 2.6 to 5.6 times higher at 370 nm compared to 880 nm, suggesting the presence of light-absorbing substances in addition to black carbon (BC) particles. The estimated absorption coefficient of BrC370 was 29.9% of the total light absorption coefficient at 370 nm. Furthermore, BrC370 exhibited a strong affinity with levoglucosan while showing a weak correlation with K+, confirming the suitability of levoglucosan as a tracer for biomass burning. The QDTT-OP was 5.3 nM m−3, and highly correlated with the carbonaceous components levoglucosan and mannosan, suggesting a relatively high contribution of biomass combustion emissions to oxidative potential. Further research should be conducted to assess the health risks associated with future PM2.5 exposure related to biomass burning in the atmosphere.

Experimental investigation on the transient vascular thermal response to laser irradiation by a high-speed infrared thermal camera

Based on the photothermal effect, laser can be used to treat vascular diseases (VD) in clinic of dermatology and ophthalmology. Transient vascular thermal response to laser irradiation during millisecond laser pulse is the key phenomenon in treatment process, which has not been carefully investigated before. In this study, target blood vessels in dorsal skin chamber (DSC) animal model were irradiated by a pulsed 532 nm diode laser and a 1064 nm Nd:YAG laser. The directed thermal responses (temperature variation) were recorded by a high-speed infrared thermal camera with a repetition rate of 1000 Hz. The temperature variation during and after single pulse irradiation and multipulse irradiation were investigated. The variation of blood absorption coefficient was explored based on the temperature increment in each laser pulse. The thermal properties of dorsal skin, especially the thermal diffusivity, were evaluated based on the temperature decay after each laser pulse. The interfacial heat transfer between the blood and the surroundings was also calculated based on the thermal images and compared to the correlation proposed before. The results show that the blood absorption to laser will increase by a maximum of 1.9 immediately after blood temperature exceeds threshold value, e.g., 68oC in both single pulse (pulse duration >100 ms) and multi-pulse laser irradiation. The tissue optical properties (thermal diffusivity) keep almost constant after millisecond laser heating. Also, a general correlation for interfacial heating transfer between blood and surroundings was developed, in which the influences of vessel shape and laser wavelength are incorporated. The interfacial heat transfer between blood and surrounding can be accurately quantified.

Discrimination of hydration states of hydrated salts using terahertz time-domain spectroscopy

Water-sensitive nature of terahertz radiation has been exploited here to discriminate the hydration states of different hydrated salts, such as Cobalt Chloride Hexahydrate (CoCl2.6H2O), Copper Sulfate Pentahydrate (CuSO4.5H2O), Magnesium Chloride Hexahydrate (MgCl2.6H2O), and Calcium Chloride Dihydrate (CaCl2.2H2O). Hydration states of these salts have been prepared by heating them in an oven at different temperature for specific time on the basis of thermo-gravimetric analysis. The prepared samples were analyzed using terahertz time-domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS). The variation in absorption coefficient and refractive indices of these hydrated salts in terahertz spectral regime (0.2–1.6 THz) are linked with the change of hydration states, which has been used for their discrimination. The results have been validated with X-ray diffraction analysis. The present work indicates that THz-TDs can be considered a promising technique to fulfill the ever increasing demand of the analysis of these hydrated salts.

An in-depth look at the structural, electronic, optical, and thermal properties of the cubic Be x Mg y Zn1−x−y O quaternary alloys

In the present research work, the structural, electrical, optical, and thermodynamic properties of the BexMgyZn1−x-yO quaternary alloy were investigated. Its conventional structure, which is composed of the binary compounds ZnO, BeO, and MgO, and their ordered ternary alloys BexZn1−xO, BexMg1−xO, and MgxZn1−xO are examined. A non-linear variation of lattice constants (a) and bulk modulus (B) as a function of the compositions (x, y) in BexMgyZn1−x-yO alloys is observed due to varying atomic radii of the constituent elements leading to the structural distortion against compositional changes. Both the ternary and quaternary alloys exhibit semiconducting properties, characterized by a direct bandgap ranging from 2–4 eV. This indicates their absorption and emission of light in the visible region of the spectrum, making them promising candidates for optoelectronic applications. The results of optical characteristics display the variation of refractive index and absorption coefficient of these alloys with respect to composition and wavelength. Present results will forecast the possible applications and guidelines for synthesizing such alloys under extreme conditions.

Temperature-dependent tuning of band gap of Fe3O4 nanoparticles for optoelectronic applications

We have investigated structural, morphological and temperature dependent absorption characteristics of Fe3O4 nanoparticles. X-ray diffraction pattern exhibited six diffraction peaks belonging to the cubic phase structure with lattice parameter of a = 8.1602 Å. Spectral variation of absorption coefficient were utilized to achieve Tauc and spectral derivative analyses providing the band gap of the Fe3O4 at varying temperature. The band gap of Fe3O4 nanoparticles was found around 2.08 eV at 300 K and around 2.14 eV at 10 K. The band gap variation with applied temperatures between 10 and 300 K were also investigated using Varshni relation.

Predicting the effect of microstructural variations in porous sound absorbers on their sound absorption performance using the perturbation method

Noise reduction is one of the most important issues in various industries. Quantifying the variation in acoustic properties is an essential task to improve the quality of products. Porous sound-absorbing materials are commonly applied to reduce noise. Variations in the microstructure of porous materials have a significant impact on variations of sound absorption coefficient. Experimental methods have been used to predict manufacturing variability of sound-absorbing porous materials. However, they take a lot of time and cost. In this study, a perturbation method is applied to predict variations of sound absorption coefficient of sound-absorbing porous materials combined with the homogenization method based on an asymptotic expansion. Properties of microstructure of a sound-absorbing porous material, such as fiber diameter and cell size, are assumed to follow normal distribution and identify the expectation and variance from the observation of microscopic images obtained by scanning electron microscope. Calculated variability of sound absorption coefficient is compared with measured variability and they agree well in the frequency range of interest.

Atmospheric aerosol optical properties and trends over Antarctica using in-situ measurements and MERRA-2 aerosol products

Columnar aerosol loading and surface level atmospheric black carbon (BC) concentration over the Antarctic are examined using the measurements carried out at the Indian Antarctic stations, Bharati and Maitri, as part of the 36th Indian Scientific Expedition (2016–17) to Antarctica (ISEA). The mean aerosol optical depth (AOD) at wavelength 500 nm at Bharati is observed to be 0.101 ± 0.01, whereas that at Maitri is 0.047 ± 0.003. Columnar aerosol loading at Bharati is found to be more than two times that measured at Maitri. The daily mean surface level atmospheric BC concentration at Bharati in the Austral summer from December 2016 to February 2017 is 24 ± 16.5 ngm−3. Comparison of this measurement with earlier reported values over the same region indicates an increase in surface-level atmospheric BC concentration. Long-term (1997–2017) trend analysis carried out using MERRA-2 aerosol reanalysis data also corroborates the increasing trend in AOD and BC concentration with 0.005 (0.007) yr−1 and 0.3 (0.27) ngm−3 yr−1 over Bharati (Maitri) respectively. Spectral variations of aerosol absorption coefficients show absorption angstrom exponent values (AAE) close to unity (1.096 ± 0.029), which indicates that fossil fuel emission is the primary source of absorbing aerosols over this region. During the study period, air mass back trajectory analysis indicates that the sources are from the Antarctic, coastal, and southern ocean regions with no long-range transport from other continents in the southern hemisphere.

Growth, structural, optical, thermal and terahertz time-domain spectroscopy of l-alanine single crystal: A potential amino acid based nonlinear optical material

In our present work, we focused on the terahertz (THz) based characterization of a very efficient organic nonlinear optical (NLO) single crystal of l-alanine (LA). Using the well-known slow evaporation solution growth method (SEST), an optically transparent amino acid-based LA crystal was effectively grown at room temperature. The structural information of the titled crystal was analyzed using powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) which confirms the space group P212121 and orthorhombic structure of the crystal. Chemical etching of an as-grown single crystal was analyzed to identify the growth patterns. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and FT-Raman spectrometry were used to figure out the major functional groups that were present in the ingot crystal. The optical behaviour of LA crystal was observed through UV–Vis and Photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopies. The single crystal was found to have high transmission values over a wide range of wavelength. The PL results revealed that the main emission happens at 474 nm. Thermal stability of the titled compound was acquired by thermo-gravimetric and the differential thermo-gravimetric (TG-DTG) analysis. Open and closed aperture Z-scan measurements were used to analyze the third order nonlinear behavior of the as-grown sample using a femtosecond Ti-sapphire laser. To analyze the absorption peaks behavior Terahertz time-domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS) was also performed in the range 0.2–2.0 THz. The above study shows variation in absorption coefficient and refractive index at THz frequencies.

A study on the prediction model of water column sound absorption coefficients considering the characteristics of the East Sea of South Korea

East Sea of Korea has the deepest water depth among Korean seas, and the water column changes are distinct in space and time, resulting in a wide range of water column sound absorption coefficients. In this study, we calculate and analysis the spatiotemporal variation of water column sound absorption coefficient in the East Sea of Korea, which has unique oceanographic characteristics. Using extensive CTD data from the Korea Oceanographic Data Centre (KODC) from 1991 to 2021, we calculate the sound absorption coefficient using the widely applied Francois–Garrison model and reveal the unique absorption characteristics of the East Sea. The derived coefficients are then used to calibrate and improve past multibeam echosounder system (MBES) data, which suffered from incomplete water column information and arbitrary mean values. To facilitate the calculation and development of sound absorption coefficient, a MATLAB-based graphical user interface (GUI) was developed. The results of this study contribute to the calculation and inference of sound absorption coefficients along spatial and temporal dimensions of the water column in the East Sea and to the extraction of more accurate seafloor information from MBES data. This study developed the way for future research focusing on algorithmic advances and new methodologies for the calculation of sound absorption coefficients in the West and South Seas of Korea.

Assessment of aerosol optical and physical properties and implications for radiative effects over the semiarid region of Indo‐Gangetic Basin

This study assesses the physical and optical properties and estimated the radiative forcing of aerosol at Agra over the Indo‐Gangetic Basin (IGB) during July 2016–December 2019 using black carbon (BC) mass concentration (AE‐33 aethalometer), data sets from satellite and model simulations. The optical properties of aerosol and radiative forcing have been measured by the Optical and Physical Properties of Aerosols and Clouds (OPAC) and Santa Barbara Discrete Ordinate Radiative Transfer Atmospheric Radiative Transfer (SBDART) model. The high BC mass concentration has been observed in November and lowest in August. An adverse meteorological condition due to a combination of temperature and low wind speed results in poor dispersion in the wintertime is a common factor for high concentration level pollutants over Agra. The diurnal and temporal cycle of BC mass concentration exhibits a high concentration at nighttime due to the lower atmospheric boundary layer. The seasonal variation of absorption coefficient (βabs) and Absorption Angstrom Exponent (AAE) is found to be higher during post‐monsoon and lowest in monsoon season. This suggests that black carbon concentration over Agra is mainly generated from crop burning, waste burning, automobile exhaust and long‐range transport from Punjab and Haryana as the present site is downwind. OPAC‐derived aerosol optical depth (AOD), single‐scattering albedo (SSA), Angstrom Exponent (AE) and asymmetry parameter (AsyP) were estimated to be 0.57 ± 0.07, 0.78 ± 0.16, 0.99 ± 0.21 and 0.81 ± 0.15, respectively. AOD and AE from the OPAC and the moderate resolution imaging spectroradiometer (MODIS) have shown the consistent relationship. The mean radiative forcing is 18.3 ± 2.1 W m−2 at the top of the atmosphere while, at the surface, net radiative forcing is −42.4 ± 7.2 and 59.1 ± 6.5 W m−2 at the atmosphere during the study period. Vertical profiles were estimated using the observations from Cloud‐Aerosol Lidar and Infrared Pathfinder Satellite Observation (CALIPSO) satellite and the change in heating rate from the SBDART model over Agra.

Exploring the linear and nonlinear optical behavior of (TlInS2)0.75(TlInSe2)0.25: Insights from ellipsometry measurements

The search for layered structured new semiconductor materials with remarkable optical properties has become a driving force, especially for materials science. Tl2In2S3Se [(TlInS2)0.75(TlInSe2)0.25], a fascinating compound, holds great promise for advanced photonic and optoelectronic applications. In the present study, the linear and nonlinear optical properties of Tl2In2S3Se layered single crystals were studied by ellipsometry measurements. The variation of refractive index, extinction coefficient, absorption coefficient and skin depth with energy were investigated. Applying the derivative analysis technique to the absorption spectrum, indirect bandgap was found as 2.19 eV. The refractive index data was analyzed considering single-effective-oscillator model. The lattice dielectric constant, plasma frequency, carrier density to the effective mass ratio and zero-frequency refractive index were found. Moreover, the change in optical conductivity with energy yielded to determine the direct bandgap as 2.40 eV. The optical parameters of nonlinear refractive index, first- and third-order nonlinear susceptibilities were also reported.

Regional Algorithm for Estimating High Coccolithophore Concentration in the Northeastern Part of the Black Sea

A modified regional algorithm to quantify the coccolithophore concentration in the northeastern part of the Black Sea under conditions of intense bloom is presented. To modify the algorithm, the data of in situ measurements of coccolithophore Emiliania huxleyi abundance performed in June 2017 and 2022 (when the maximum values were 9 × 106 and 13 × 106 Cells L−1, respectively), as well as the data from hydro-optical and satellite measurements, were used. In addition, the ratio between the number of detached coccoliths and coccolithophore cells was taken into account. Based on the expanded array of in situ data, the optimal values of the regional algorithm parameters were obtained. The modified algorithm makes it possible to obtain more accurate results in areas of high coccolithophore concentrations and takes into account the contribution of coccoliths. To test the sensitivity of the algorithm to variations in bio-optical characteristics, model calculations were performed using Hydrolight software. The updated algorithm is significantly less sensitive to variations in chlorophyll concentration and CDOM absorption coefficient than its previous version.

Nanoscale phase separation on an AlGaN surface characterized by scanning diffusion microscopy.

AlGaN is an important material for deep ultraviolet optoelectronic devices and electronic devices. The phase separation on the AlGaN surface means small-scale compositional fluctuations of Al, which is prone to degrade the performance of devices. In order to study the mechanism of the surface phase separation, the Al0.3Ga0.7N wafer was investigated by the scanning diffusion microscopy method based on the photo-assisted Kelvin force probe microscope. The response of the surface photovoltage near the bandgap was quite different for the edge and the center of the island on the AlGaN surface. We utilize the theoretical model of scanning diffusion microscopy to fit the local absorption coefficients from the measured surface photovoltage spectrum. During the fitting process, we introduce as and ab parameters (bandgap shift and broadening) to describe the local variation of absorption coefficients α(as, ab, λ). The local bandgap and Al composition can be calculated quantitatively from the absorption coefficients. The results show that there is lower bandgap (about 305 nm) and lower Al composition (about 0.31) at the edge of the island, compared with those at the center of the island (about 300 nm for bandgap and 0.34 for Al composition). Similar to the edge of the island, there is a lower bandgap at the V-pit defect which is about 306 nm corresponding to the Al composition of about 0.30. These results mean Ga enrichment both at the edge of the island and the V-pit defect position. It proves that scanning diffusion microscopy is an effective method to review the micro-mechanism of AlGaN phase separation.

Insights into surface circulation and mixing in James Bay and Hudson Bay from dissolved organic matter optical properties

Hudson Bay and James Bay are fed by numerous rivers, which also deliver large amounts of dissolved organic matter (DOM). The objective of this study is to assess Hudson Bay wide DOM spatial distribution using ultraviolet-visible light absorption and excitation-emission matrix fluorescence spectroscopies. Overall, a five-component PARAFAC model was validated using 1060 discrete samples collected over nine field campaigns between 2009 and 2018 and including the first samples from James Bay ( n = 112). Regional and seasonal variations were observed. Particularly striking was a 9-fold difference in concentration between coastal and marine zones of these bays, which implies limited mixing between those regions. Seasonal variations in absorption coefficient at 355 nm and terrestrial humic-like components were found only in east Hudson Bay, revealing a regional disparity in seasonal DOM behaviour. The summer intensities and relative abundances of DOM revealed that cyclonic circulation transports terrestrial DOM around James Bay following its eastern shores before being transported northward along the western coast of Belcher Islands. The vertical distribution of DOM indicated that fluorescent DOM is delivered to the deeper layer by winter convective mixing in northern Hudson Bay. • Limited mixing between the coastal and marine regions of the bay is observed. • The strong terrestrial signal of east James Bay is found in northern Belcher Island. • DOM is delivered to the deeper layer by winter convection in northern Hudson Bay.

On the importance and modeling of in-depth spectral radiation absorption in the pyrolysis of black PMMA

In-depth radiation absorption in pyrolysis models is commonly modeled with Beer’s law using a constant absorption coefficient. This approximation neglects the effects of spectral variation of absorption coefficient, material emissions, and directional dependency of penetrated thermal radiation. This research aims to address the importance of these factors in flammability analysis of black poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA). Accordingly, a pyrolysis model including the separated full spectrum correlated k-distribution (SFSCK) method for spectral modeling, the ordinate weighting method (OWM) with finite volume method (FVM) for directional distribution of the thermal radiation is introduced as the most detailed model. By gradually simplifying this model, five other pyrolysis models are developed with different levels of details in radiation calculations. Simulations are first done using the optimized thermal conductivity and specific heat capacity for the most detailed model, then by optimizing these parameters for each pyrolysis model separately. The results show that the pyrolysis model with a depth and source temperature-dependent absorption coefficient, two-flux method, and diffuse boundary with a scenario-dependent effective reflectivity can predict the measured mass loss rate and ignition time with accuracy similar to the most detailed model, and can be recommended for future pyrolysis simulations.

Implications of morphology on excited state absorption of α-MnO2 nanostructures

Nanoclusters, nanorods and nanowires of α-MnO2 were synthesized by reduction method at different annealing temperature (100 °C–500 °C). X-ray diffraction and Raman studies confirms the formation of pure tetragonal phase of α-MnO2. Surface morphology using SEM and HRTEM reveals the gradual transformation of α-MnO2 nanoclusters (100 °C–300 °C) to nanorods (400 °C) to well defined nanowires (500 °C). While increasing the annealing temperature, Ostwald ripening process initially withholds the agglomerated clusters and its size get reduced and fused that leads to orientation along particular direction. HRTEM clearly displays the influence of temperature on favoured growth plane where (411) of nanoclusters changed to (211) plane of nanorods and nanowires. Optical band edge absorption at 268 nm arising from d–d transitions of Mn4+ in MnO2 got blue shifted due to variations in morphology. Here with increase in temperature, aspect ratio increases which alters the number of surface atoms and consequently the cohesive energy put on effect in the widening of bandgap of the material from 4.31 eV (nanoclusters) to 4.63 eV (nanowires). Open aperture Z-scan technique using Nd: YAG laser (532 nm, 10 Hz & 9 ns) revealed all MnO2 nanostructures involve reverse saturable absorption ascribed due to excited state absorption and its strength varies with morphology. Significant absorption in the visible region (532 nm) provoked excited state absorption and intensity dependent variation of nonlinear absorption coefficient confirms the existence of sequential two photon absorption process. α-MnO2 nanowires with extended interconnected network and larger aspect ratio exhibits wider excited state cross-section (6.64 × 10−2 GM), higher two-photon absorption coefficient (2.01 × 10−10 m/W) and lower onset optical limiting threshold (2.13 × 1012 W/m2). This stronger optical limiting performance of α-MnO2 nanowires symbolizes the scope of utilizing optimal α-MnO2 nanostructure for optical limiting applications.

Sound absorption characteristics of loose bituminous coal porous media with different metamorphic degrees

With the advantages of high applicability and reliability, the acoustic detection method has been widely used in the field of temperature measurement, positioning, and flaw detection. To apply acoustic temperature measurement techniques to the detection of high temperature points of loose coal spontaneous combustion, the basic acoustic properties of loose coal need to be clarified. Four bituminous coals with different degrees of metamorphosis were selected for the study. The stacking structural characteristics of loose coal were studied by industrial computerized tomography. The sound absorption coefficient of loose coal was tested based on the sound absorption test system. The results revealed that with the increase of particle size, the voids of loose coal gradually became larger and the connectivity became better. The distribution characteristics of voids in loose coal were intrinsic to the variation in sound absorption coefficients. The sound absorption coefficient was more influenced by the particle size and stack thickness than by the degree of deterioration. Except for the particle size of less than 0.9 mm and the stacked thickness of 2 cm coal samples, the absorption coefficients of the coal samples increased gradually with decreasing particle size at the same acoustic frequency, and the peak absorption coefficients gradually shifted towards lower frequencies with increasing thickness. The peak frequency range of the absorption coefficient was calculated to provide a basis for the selection of the frequency band of the acoustic temperature measurement signal for loose coal.

Optical properties of low-refractive index polymers

The study of optical properties of polymers is an integral part of smart materials research. It has immense potential in diverse fields spanning from structural health monitoring and underwater surveillance to medical imaging and automobile industries. Polymers are excellent candidates for these purposes due to their adaptable physical properties, one of which is their optical response to external stimuli such as temperature, pressure, magnetic fields, humidity, surrounding gases etc. Thus, being able to predict these responses is invaluable in the formulation of devices that are relevant to these applications. This paper presents a study of the simulation of the optical properties of several polymers when exposed to electromagnetic radiation, ranging from Ultra Violet to Near-Infra Red. A simulation of the influence of varying thicknesses of polymers (10, 50, 100 µm) on substrates [silicon (10, 50, 100 µm) and metal (Au) (0.025, 0.053, 0.117 µm)], on the optical properties, is presented in this study. Consequently, the results of these simulations serve as a guideline for selecting the best material configuration for the desired application. The optical bandgap of some of the polymer candidates is examined in light of Tauc’s method of analysis of the absorption coefficient variation with energy.

A Numerical Simulation for Efficiency Enhancement of CZTS Based Thin Film Solar Cell Using SCAPS-1D

In this paper we proposed a solar cell having model “Back Contact/CZTS/ZnCdS/ZnO/Front Contact”. CZTS is working as an absorber layer, ZnCdS as a buffer layer and ZnO as a window layer with back and front contacts. The Zn content was varied from 0% to 10% and bad gap was changed from 2.42 to 2.90 eV as described in the literature. The impact of this band gap variation has been observed on the performance of solar cell by using SCAPS-1D software. The efficiency was varied due to variation in bandgap of ZnCdS thin film layer. The simulation was carried out at 300K under A.M 1.5 G 1 Sun illumination. The energy bandgap diagram has been taken from SCAPS to explain the different parameters of solar cell. The effect of ZnCdS having different bandgap values was observed. Then the thickness of CZTS layer was varied to check its effect and hence at 3.0 um gave the imporved efficiency of 13.83% roundabout. After optimization of CZTS layer thickness, the effect of working temperature was examined on the performance of solar cell. The absorption coefficient variation from 1E+4 to 1E+9 cm-1 caused major effects on the characteristics parameters of solar cell along with on J-V characteristics and Quantum Efficiency curve. At 1E+9 cm-1 absorption coefficient the efficiency of solar cell boost up to 16.24%. This is the remarkable improvement in the efficiency of solar cell from 13.82% to 16.24%. After optimization of all parameters, simulation was run at 280K, having CZTS thickness of 3.5 um, with 10% content Zn in ZnCdS (2.90 eV), and absoption coefficient of 1E+9, the model efficiency reached up to 17.6% with Voc of 0.994 V, Jsc 26.1 mA/cm2 and Fill factor was 71.4%.

Enhanced spectral modulation of Cs WO3 nanocrystals through anionic doping for energy-efficient glazing

Spectrally selective materials have been widely used to shield near-infrared radiation for windows in the region with a cooling-demand climate. CsxWO3 nanocrystals which exhibit strong localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) effect and small polaron transfer in near-infrared radiation have attracted great attention for fabricating the spectrally selective coating. The enhancement of its optical performance remains a challenge in energy-efficient windows. Herein, F-doped CsxWO3 nanocrystals were successfully prepared by a solvothermal method, which demonstrate stronger near-infrared absorption performance than CsxWO3 nanocrystals. The introduction of fluorine can enhance the free carrier density of the nanocrystals, which can lead to a higher absorption coefficient. The absorption coefficient variation of LSPR effect and small polaron transfer was explained by the variation of free carrier density and carrier mobility. When the F/W molar ratio was 0.4, the free carrier density reached 9.25 × 1014 cm-3. The spectrally selective coating prepared by F-doped CsxWO3 nanocrystals exhibited superior spectral selectivity with TVis, TNIR, Tlum, and Tsol of 67.21%, 11.85%, 72.76% and 49.01%, respectively. This substitutional doping strategy provides a promising potential to improve the spectral modulation of CsxWO3 nanocrystals for practical application of energy-saving windows.
