Mainstreaming Microfinance: Balancing Financial Performance and Outreach

There is an unsolved dilemma in the Sri Lankan microfinance sector: whether microfinance institutions target low-income earners or seek profitability. To contribute to this debate, this research investigates the effect of financial performance on outreach and the effect of outreach on financial performance. Balancing financial performance and outreach of microfinance institutions have been conducted in various countries and regions, but specifically not for Sri Lanka after implementing No.06 of 2016 Microfinance Act. This study used an empirical data set for ten years, from 2010 to 2019. Data was collected from 16 MFIs and the panel data regression model was used for the analysis. According to the results MFIs can achieve financial and social objectives simultaneously when serving a larger number of customers and a high percentage of female borrowers. But providing services to the core poor people diminishes their financial performance. As per the findings, policy makers are required to make a roadmap to protect both customers and organization financial sustainability. This study emphasizes the importance of having a proper reporting system for the microfinance sector and future research may wish to consider more MFIs by considering a long period and future research can occupy financial performance and outreach variables which are good at forecasting.

Firm Size as a Mediator between Inventory Management Andperformance of Nigerian Companies

This study employed a dissimilar methodology in investigating the mediating role of firm size on the relationship between inventory management and performance of non-finance companies publicly listed on the Nigerian Exchange Group. The study was hinged on just-in-time paradigm while variables of inventory management and financial performance were obtained from the annual reports and accounts of 76 non-finance companies. The results obtained from the structural equation modelling showed that size of firm mediates on the relationship between inventory management and financial performance measures of the study and it was found to be significantly positive. On the basis of this, it was suggested that companies need to strengthen inventory management practices as well as increasing their sizes. The size of companies can be increased by way of investing more funds in their asset structures.

Impact of senior management’s financial intelligence on the financial performance of banks and insurance companies in the Gaza Strip

PurposeThis study investigates the impact of senior management’s financial intelligence on the financialperformance of banks and insurance companies operating in the Gaza Strip.DesignThe study followed the descriptive analytical approach to measure financial performance by relying on the financial reports of the sample companies for 2022. Two primary sources were employed: a questionnaire to collect the financial intelligence data, and it was distributed to a sample of individuals representing the management of companies operating in the Gaza Strip. A total of (67) completed questionnaires were obtained. In addition, secondary data from 11 banks and insurance companies operating in the Gaza Strip was collected to compute the financial performance variables such as returns on investment (ROI), assets (ROA), and equity (ROE). The collected data were then analyzed using SPSS software version 28.FindingsThe results indicated that the dimensions of financial intelligence were available. Banks and insurance companies have good financial performance. Furthermore, financial intelligence (understanding beyond the numbers, understanding financial analysis, and grasping the overall financial picture) significantly affected the performance of banks and insurance companies, as measured by ROI and ROA. The dimensions of financial intelligence (mastering financial and monetary skills, understanding financial analysis, and grasping the overall financial picture) also significantly impacted the performance of banks and insurance companies as measured by ROE. Simultaneously, there was no significant effect of financial intelligence (mastering financial and monetary skills) on the performance of banks and insurance companies as measured by ROI and ROA. Furthermore, there was no significant effect of financial intelligence (understanding beyond the numbers) on the performance of banks and insurance companies as measured by ROE.OriginalityTo the best of the author’s knowledge, the current study is among the first research efforts in Palestine.Practical implicationsThe findings indicate that senior management should pay greater attention to developing financial intelligence skills among employees in supervisory positions, especially those in the administrative, financial, and planning fields, due to their impact on improving companies’ performance.

Pengaruh Struktur Modal, Likuiditas, dan Ukuran Perusahaan Terhadap Kinerja Keuangan Perusahaan

The main objective of the analysis is to evaluate the impact of capital structure (DER), liquidity (CR), and the company’s size (Total Asset) on financial performance (ROE). The methodology that is used is a quantitative one. The population consists of an industrial sub-sector company that is listed for 2019-2022 on the Indonesian Stock Exchange (BEI). Purposive sampling is the approach that was utilized to establish the sample criteria. Over the course of four years, 19 samples in all were chosen, and 76 data were collected. Researchers employ coefficients, F tests, Hausmant tests, Chow tests, and descriptive statistical tests while analyzing data. Regression analysis with panel data is one of the analytical methods employed. The Fixed Effect Model was derived from the Chow and Hausmant Test results. The statistical F test result was 0.000000 < 0.05, so the independent variables of the capital structure, liquidity, and the company size simultaneously had a significant influence on the dependent variable of financial performance. The coefficient test results showed that capital structure significantly positive improve the financial performances variable.

The Influence of The Principles of Good Corporate Governance, Corporate Social Responsibility, and Financial Literacy on The Financial Performance of Village Credit Institutions In The Negara District of Jembrana

This research aims to analyze the influence of good corporate governance, corporate social responsibility, and financial literacy on financial performance in Village Credit Institutions in Negara District, Jembrana Regency. There are 3 independent variables and 1 dependent variable. GCG, CSR, and financial literacy variables are included in the dependent variables and the financial performance variables are included in the dependent variable. To answer the problem formulation, quantitative analysis was used using an instrument in the form of a questionnaire. In this research, the SPSS 25 application was used to analyze these variables. Based on the result of the analysis, it can be concluded that: 1. GCG variables partially have a significant effect on financial performance (0.017<0.05) 2. The CSR variable partially has a significant effect on financial performance (0.000<0.05) 3. The financial literacy variable partially does not have a significant effect on financial performance (0.338 > 0.05) 4. GCG, CSR and financial literacy variables simultaneously influence financial performance (0.000<0.05).

Does Financial Performance Mediate the Relationship between Corporate Governance and Corporate Value? Evidence from Indonesian Banking Companies

The banking sector has the potential to progress and grow sustainably. This is reflected in the increase in the value of distributed funds and the value of commercial bank assets. However, this increase was not in line with the increase in company value. Therefore, companies must be able to optimize their resources to increase corporate value. This study aims to analyze and explain the factors that can affect corporate value. The variables used in this research are corporate governance as an independent variable, financial performance as a mediating variable, and corporate value as a dependent variable. The type of research used is explanatory research with a quantitative approach. The samples for this research were Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BBRI), Bank Mandiri (BMRI), Bank Negara Indonesia (BBNI), and Bank Tabungan Negara (BBTN). The data analysis was done using descriptive statistical analysis and partial least squares (PLS) analysis which is processed using SmartPLS software. The results of this research indicate that corporate governance has a negative and insignificant effect on corporate value. Furthermore, corporate governance variables also had a negative and insignificant effect on financial performance. Apart from that the results also show that the financial performance variable is not able to mediate the relationship between corporate governance and corporate value significantly. The practical implication of this research was to encourage banking management in Indonesia to implement good corporate governance as it can boost financial performance.

Understanding the Impact of Intellectual Capital on Financial Performance and Its Impact on Firm Value: A Literature Review

This research aims to find out whether intellectual capital can influence financial performance, thereby, impacting company value using the journal review method. Research journals containing the variables of intellectual capital, financial performance, and company value were used. The results of the research show that there is a relationship between intellectual capital and financial performance and its influence on company value through three components contained in intellectual capital: human capital efficiency (HCE), structural capital efficiency (SCE), and capital efficiency used (CEE), including physical and financial capital. The contribution of intellectual capital to company performance will vary from one industry to another. Industries that rely on creativity and innovation will require a higher level of intellectual capital. The results of this research conclude that the existence of intellectual capital within the company is an important company asset. Companies that can manage their intellectual capital effectively will have better financial performance and higher company value. Intellectual capital can influence financial performance and company value.

Examining the bonus mechanisms’ role in real earnings management dynamics in an Indonesian manufacturing company

Real Earnings Management (REM) and financial success may have different relationships depending on how managers act. Bonus mechanisms are a significant factor that influences management behavior. The study seeks to examine the impact of bonus systems on the correlation between financial performance and REM practices in manufacturing companies in Indonesia. Moderated Regression Analysis (MRA) is employed to evaluate the influence of bonus mechanisms in moderating the association of financial performance on REM. The technique of purposive sampling was used to pick the sample. The study utilized data from manufacturing firms listed on the Indonesian Stock Exchange from 2017 to 2021, including a total of 400 observed data points. The research findings demonstrate that sales growth is the sole factor that significantly influences REM in manufacturing organizations, as indicated by a p-value below 10%. Other financial performance factors, on the other hand, with p-values for each variable above 10%, have not been shown to have a significant impact on REM. These factors include ROA, leverage, operating cash flow, and cash. The findings also demonstrate that, with a p-value for each variable above 10%, the bonus mechanism is a variable that modifies the effect of all financial performance variables on REM.

Enhancing financial performance and risk management in Kazakhstan’s banking sector

This study aims to assess the impact of regulatory compliance on the effectiveness of risk management and the financial performance of Kazakhstan’s banking sector. Applying Structural Equation Modeling (SEM), the study examines data from Kazakhstani banking institutions, revealing the direct and mediated impacts of regulatory compliance on financial performance, with risk management efficacy as a key intermediary. The analysis identifies a significant direct relationship between regulatory compliance and risk management efficacy (coefficient: 0.45, p-value: < 0.001), suggesting that compliance efforts substantially bolster risk management capabilities. The impact of risk management efficacy on financial performance is also notable (coefficient: 0.35, p-value: < 0.001), confirming its crucial role in financial success. Additionally, a direct, though less pronounced, influence of regulatory compliance on financial performance is observed (coefficient: 0.20, p-value: 0.004). The model’s explanatory power is reflected in an R-squared value of 0.248, indicating that it accounts for approximately 24.8% of the variability in financial performance. These findings underline the critical role of regulatory adherence and effective risk management in ensuring financial success, offering strategic insights for banking operations in Kazakhstan.

Exploring the role of corporate governance in driving financial performance: An empirical investigation of Nepalese commercial banks

This study delves into the substantial impact of corporate governance practices on a company’s financial performance, focusing specifically on Nepalese commercial banks in the Kathmandu Valley. With 419 participants from all 27 «A» grade commercial banks, the study concentrates on employees currently working in these banks, particularly top-level staff such as managers, department heads, and officers. The primary objective is to investigate the role of corporate governance in driving financial performance, using Return on Assets (ROA) and Return on Equity (ROE) as financial performance indicators of banks. The study explores various factors influencing corporate governance’s impact, including corporate governance policies, disclosure policies, board size, income diversity, and ethnic diversity. Data collection involves primary data from participants associated with the banks, and the analysis is conducted using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). Descriptive, correlation, and regression analyses are employed to understand the relationship between corporate governance and financial performance variables. Notably, regular evaluations of the board of directors are found to have a beneficial impact on financial performance. A bank’s transparency in sharing performance information exhibits a stronger positive correlation with ROE (R=0.183) compared to ROA (R=0.060), suggesting that ROE is more sensitive to disparities in information availability. Furthermore, the study identifies a negative impact of board size on financial performance, with low-income diversity positively influencing it and board ethnic diversity exerting a negative and statistically significant influence.

Pengaruh Intellectual Capital dan Enterprise Risk Management Terhadap Nilai Perusahaan dengan Kinerja Keuangan sebagai Variabel Intervening (pada Perusahaan Farmasi yang Terdaftar di Bursa Efek Indonesia Periode 2018-2021)

Price book value is an indicator of company value that is usually used as an assessment by investors when investing. This research aims to obtain the results of a study of the influence of intellectual capital with the value added intellectual capital (VAIC) indicator and enterprise risk management with the indicator (COSO ERM) on company value and financial performance as intervening variables in pharmaceutical sector companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange for the 2018 period. -2021. The method used was purposive sampling so that a sample of 9 companies was obtained. Data analysis uses partial least squares (PLS). The research results show that intellectual capital, enterprise risk management and financial performance directly have a positive and significant effect on company value. The research results also state that intellectual capital and enterprise risk management which are mediated by financial performance variables have a positive influence on company value.

Unveiling the Symphony of Economic Policies on Corporate Financial Performance: A Quantitative Revelation through SMARTPLS Analysis

This research investigates the influence of economic stimulus policy, fiscal policy, and the solvency risk of companies on their financial performance. Utilizing a quantitative approach, the study adopts regression analysis through SMARTPLS to analyze the data. Primary data for the variables - impact of economic stimulus policy, solvency risk of companies, and fiscal policy - were gathered, along with secondary data over a five-year period pertaining to the financial performance variable. The dataset was derived from 26 manufacturing companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (BEI). The findings reveal that both economic stimulus policy and fiscal policy exert a positive and significant effect on financial performance. In contrast, the solvency risk of companies does not exhibit a significant impact. This outcome suggests that while macroeconomic policies facilitate an environment conducive to financial growth, the internal risk management and financial structuring of a company play a critical role in leveraging these external benefits. The study underscores the importance of strategic internal management and effective risk mitigation practices in enhancing and sustaining financial performance amidst varying economic policies.

THE INFLUENCE OF FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE AND INVESTMENT DECISIONS ON COMPANY VALUE WITH DIVIDEND POLICY AS A VARIABLE INTERVENING

The aim of this research is to analyze the influence of financial performance and decisions investment towards dividend policy with company value as an intervening variable. The research method uses a quantitative approach in banking sector companies listed on the IDX for the 2018-2022 period. The analysis method for this research uses SPSS (Statistical Product and Service Solution). The results of the research show that the influence of financial performance has a positive and significant effect on company value, financial performance has a positive and significant effect on dividend policy, investment decisions have a positive and significant effect on dividend policy, investment decisions have a positive and significant effect on company value. The comparison of RBV-based competitiveness of Hungarian family-owned and non-family-owned SMEs

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to identify the differences between Hungarian family-owned businesses (FOBs) and non-family-owned businesses (NFOBs) concerning the elements of SME competitiveness and financial performance.Design/methodology/approachThe research covers the Hungarian data set of the Global Competitiveness Project (GCP, www.sme-gcp.org) of 738 (data collection between 2018 and 2020) non-listed SMEs, of which 328 were FOBs. The study uses the comprehensive, multidimensional competitiveness measurement of the GCP built on the resource-based view (RBV) and the configuration theory. Financial performance was captured with two composite indicators: short-term and long-term financial performance (LTFP). The comparative analysis between FOBs and NFOBs was conducted using binary logistic regression.FindingsThe results show that FOBs are more prone to focusing on local niche markets with higher longevity and LTFP than NFOBs. However, FOBs have lower innovation intensity and less organised administrative procedures. The most contradicting finding is that the FOBs’ higher LTFP is accompanied by significantly lower competitiveness than in the case of NFOBs.Originality/valueThis study goes beyond other GCP studies by including composite financial performance measures among the variables examined. The combination of performance-causing (resources and capabilities) and performance-representing (financial performance) variables provides a better understanding of the non-listed SMEs in terms of family ownership. The results help academia to enrich the RBV-competitiveness, the non-listed SME management and finance literature, and policymakers to design business development and support schemes. They also show future entrepreneurs the impact of family ownership on entrepreneurial success.

ESG investments in the Covid-19 pandemic

The objective of this study is to analyze the effect of investment in environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors on the financial performance of Brazilian companies and on the accumulated abnormal return during the Covid-19 pandemic period. To this end, two theoretical portfolios of the Brazilian market were compared: one composed of ISE (Sustainability Index) companies and the other of Ibovespa companies. The impact of financial performance variables on Abnormal Returns during the Covid-19 pandemic period was analyzed using the Event Study method. This study obtained mixed results. ISE companies obtained higher CAR for the period of the pandemic, demonstrating greater resilience during the crisis. In addition, lower volatility was observed for ESG stocks. The results of the regression models did not identify a positive relationship between profitability indicators and CAR for ISE companies. On the other hand, in line with the hypotheses of this study, there was a positive association between Tobin’s Q of ESG companies and CAR. This research can be useful for academics and investors, as it expands the evidence of ESG investments in terms of financial performance in an emerging market, such as Brazil, and their resilience in times of crisis. Finally, managers, investors, creditors and other professionals may be interested in the results of this research, since ESG investments can develop a competitive advantage, contributing to the long-term success of the business.

Looking at Financial Performance, Analysis of its Effect on Share Prices

This study aims to determine and analyze the effect of financial performance on stock prices in pharmaceutical sub-sector companies on the Indonesia Stock Exchange for the period 2014 – 2023. This study uses financial performance as an independent variable with indicators of Current Ratio (CR), Quick Ratio (QR), Cash Ratio (CashR), Debt to Asset Ratio (DAR), Debt to Equity Ratio (DER), Fixed Asset Turn Over (FATO), Inventory Turn Over (ITO), Total Asset Turn Over (TATO), Gross Profit Margin (GPM), Net Profit Margin (NPM) and Return On Equity (ROE). Stock price as a variable is tied to the stock price indicator (HS). Data and facts obtained from the issuer's financial statements, stock prices and financial performance have considerable and significant differences in the study period. The analysis tool uses the Smart Partial Least Square (PLS) 3.0 software program. The results showed that financial performance variables with FATO and TATO indicators affect stock price variables, while other financial performance indicators, namely CR, CashR, DAR, DER, GPM, ITO, GPM, ITO, NPM, QR and ROE are not able to construct financial performance variables.

The Influence of Financial Performance And Earning Management on Firm Value (Case Study in the Food And Beverage Industry)

This study aims to analyzes the influence of financial performance and earnings management on company value with the research object being food and beverage companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (BEI) with an observation period of 2017-2021 Secondary data was obtained from the IDX website, five periods of financial reports were obtained from 41 companies, using a purposive sampling technique, only 24 companies remained. The analysis method uses multiple linear regression with the help of the SPSS program. The independent variables in this research are financial performance and earnings management, with firm value as the dependent variable. The results of this research indicate that the financial performance variable has a significant positive effect on firm value. Likewise, the earnings management variable has a significant positive effect on firm value. Companies need to maintain performance and carry out good earnings management so that firm value is also good.

The Impact of Green Accounting Implementation and Environmental Performance on Corporate Financial Performance

This study aims to identify and analyze the impact of green accounting implementation and environmental performance on corporate financial performance. The population of this study is manufacturing companies in the basic industry and chemical sectors that will be listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange in 2021-2022. The sample was selected using a purposive sampling method with three criteria, resulting in 15 companies worth observing. This study uses multiple regression analysis using the SPSS program. In this study, green accounting variables are measured using the dummy method, environmental performance variables are measured using PROPER evaluation values, and financial performance variables are measured using ROA. Based on the analysis results, it is shown that green accounting and environmental performance variables do not affect the financial performance of companies.

The Influence Of The Implementation Of Good Corporate Governance On The Quality Of Financial Performance At Muamalat Bank In Sorong District In 2018-2022

This study aims to analyze and determine the effect of GCG implementation, Islamic financial performance, and the influence of GCG implementation on Islamic financial performance at Bank Muamalat in Sorong Regency. This research is a quantitative research using associative, using secondary data sources derived from record evidence, or historical reports that have been compiled in archives both published and unpublished. So that this research was obtained from Bank Muamalat's financial statements, annual reports and GCG reports for the 2018-2022 period which were published publicly in the Indonesian Banking Directory and the official website of each Muamalat bank. The results of the study explained that there is a positive but not significant influence between GCG and financial performance. It can be explained in more detail that the GCG variant itself consists of transparency, quality, responsibility, independence and fairness which does not have a significant influence on GCG. The company's financial performance variables use ROA, ROE and DER indicators, which also do not have a significant influence so that in the end the relationship / influence between GCG and financial performance is also not significant.

COMPANY VALUE IN KOMPAS 100 INDEX PERIOD 2017-2021: THE ROLE OF GOOD CORPORATE GOVERNANCE, CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY, AND FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE

The objective of this study is to investigate the impact of Good Corporate Governance (GCG), Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Enterprise Risk Management (ERM), and Financial Performance on Company Value. The samples included in this study comprised of companies that were listed in the KOMPAS100 index for the period spanning from 2017 to 2021. The sampling methodology employed in this study was the use of simple random sampling, resulting in a sample size of 40 companies. The employed analytical framework is multiple linear regression analysis, enabled by the application of SPSS software. The findings of this study indicate that the variables of GCG (Good Corporate Governance), CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility), ERM (Enterprise Risk Management), and Financial Performance collectively exert a substantial and favorable impact on the value of a company. To a certain extent, the variables of GCG (Good Corporate Governance) and Financial Performance exhibit a notable and favorable influence on the valuation of a company. Conversely, the factors of CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) and ERM (Enterprise Risk Management) do not show a statistically significant impact on the magnitude of Company Value. Thus, investors may take into account the inclusion of data pertaining to a company's Good Corporate Governance (GCG) policies and Financial Performance when making investment choices. Company management must acknowledge the significance of implementing efficacious corporate governance processes and augmenting financial performance as strategic measures to enhance the value of the organization.
