Analysis of the Economic Value of Environmental Services of Mangrove Ecosystem in Cendi Manik, Sekotong District, West Lombok Regency

The area of mangrove ecosystems in West Nusa Tenggara Province continues to decline each year. One of the threatening factors that substantially contribute to such condition is socioeconomic activities of human beings in fulfilling their needs. An effort that can be made primarily to preserve the mangrove ecosystem is to quantify the economic value of environmental services provided by the mangrove ecosystem as a whole, so that the existence and sustainability of the mangrove ecosystem could be maintained. This research aims to calculate the total economic value of mangrove ecosystem services which indicate the four categories of ecosystem services including supporting services, provisioning services, regulatory services and cultural services. The research was carried out using a survey method by collecting data and information from location of this study to obtain actual data regarding the existence of the mangrove ecosystem. The results of the analysis show that the total economic value of mangrove ecosystem environmental services is 963,888,060/year. This value is divided into provider services (supply services) amounting to Rp. 153,002,250, regulatory services (arrangement services) Rp. 598,339,702, supporting services (support services) Rp. 2,243,250, and cultural services (cultural services) Rp. 210,308,857. The magnitude of the total economic value of mangrove ecosystem environmental services can be a reference for the government in determining compensation for services if there is degradation to mangrove ecosystem resources in the area.

Short Communication: Estimation of aboveground biomass and carbon sequestration in KGPAA Mangkunagoro I Grand Forest Park, Central Java, Indonesia

Forests play an important role in climate change mitigation by absorbing carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and store it in the form of biomass. Valuation of carbon storage potential of a forest will provide insight on the importance of preserving it. This study aims to assess plant diversity and estimate aboveground biomass, carbon stocks, carbon dioxide sequestration potential, and the economic value of ecosystem services from carbon sequestration in KGPAA Mangkunagoro I Grand Forest Park, Central Java, Indonesia. We used a non-destructive method (i.e. allometric equation) in estimating aboveground biomass and carbon stock. We established 50 sampling plots to identify and measure trees (DBH >20 cm) and poles (10<DBH<20 cm). The results showed that there were 30 species from 20 families found in the observation plots. The potential aboveground biomass at the tree and pole level was 297.92 tons/ha and 57.22 tons/ha, respectively, while the total carbon stock for tree and pole was 140.02 tons/ha and 26.89 tons/ha, respectively. This was equivalent to carbon dioxide sequestration of 513.88 tons/ha and 98.70 tons/ha for trees and poles. The economic value of environmental services from carbon stock in the whole area of KGPAA Mangkunagoro I Grand Forest Park was estimated at IDR 21,289,040,253. The results of this research show that apart from playing a role in mitigating climate change by absorbing carbon, KGPAA Mangkunagoro I Grand Forest Park also has valuable economic value.

Analysis of Biomass Potential, Carbon Stock, Carbon Sequestration, Oxygen Production, and Value of Environmental Services CO2 Uptake in Three Types of Forests in Buton District, Southeast Sulawesi Province, Indonesia

Global warming is a symptom of an increase in the average temperature of the earth's surface. Global warming is caused by the large concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. One of the biggest greenhouse gases contributing to global warming is carbon dioxide (CO2). Forest vegetation can absorb about 50% of total emissions through a sequestration process stored in biomass in all parts of the plant. The study aimed to determine the potential of biomass, carbon stocks, carbon sequestration, oxygen production, and the CO2 absorption value of environmental services in three types of ecosystems in Buton Regency, Southeast Sulawesi Province. Research sampling was conducted using purposive sampling techniques and roaming methods. Calculation of biomass potential, carbon stock, carbon sequestration, oxygen production, and environmental service value of CO2 uptake using an allometric formula The results of research on the biomass potential of mangrove forests, lambusango forests, and pine forests were respectively, 16,108.27 tons/ha, 84,693.72 tons/ha, and 14,273.98 tons/ha. The potential carbon stock is 8,054.13 tons/ha, 42,346.86 tons/ha, and 7,136.99 tons/ha. The carbon absorption potential is 29,558.67 tons/ha, 155,412.98 tons/ha, and 26,192.75 tons/ha. The potential oxygen production is 21,504.54 tons/ha, 113,066.12 tons/ha, and 19,055.76 tons/ha, while the value of environmental services CO2 absorption is 2,221,038,614.63 Rp/ha, 11,677,731,637.57 Rp/ha, and 1,968,123,759 Rp/ha.

Valuation of Environmental Services City Park 1 BSD Using the Travel Cost Method (TCM) and Willingness To Pay (WTP)

BSD City Park 1 has quite complete functions, including ecological, social, and aesthetics, as well as is also a city landmark and a cheap and healthy tourist attraction for residents, including visitors from outside BSD City. The study aimed to find the factors that influence the number of public visits to City Parks and to determine the value of environmental services from City Park 1 BSD through a revealed preference approach using the Individual Travel Cost Method (ITCM) and Willingness To Pay (WTP). Economic valuation through revealed preference using the Travel Cost Method (TCM) calculation, the individual Consumer Surplus value is IDR 55,664/visit with an average stay of 4.8 personal holidays per year. If it is estimated that there are 104,150 visits/year, the Economic Value of City Park 1 BSD is estimated at IDR 5,797,422,757/year. The Willingness to Pay (stated preference) analysis results for additional facilities include the average individual WTP for other sports facilities of IDR 7,619.00; The average particular WTP for adding the number of trash cans is Rp.7,619.00; The average individual WTP increases the number of toilets by IDR 15,000.00.

Management of organic waste into liquid fertilizer and compost welcoming the blue economy of Rancabungur

Global waste management is estimated that every year, only 20% can be recycled or recovered. The rest is a problem because of the generation of waste that pollutes various ecosystems and has an impact on decreasing the value of environmental services. The blue economy concept of Rancabungur Village is a new discourse of development in Rancabungur that accelerates economic growth, community welfare, and environmental health. One of the efforts to increase economic growth is to increase public awareness of managing waste which can later produce economic value, creativity, and the environment. The purpose of this activity is to provide an understanding to the target audience about the importance of waste management, to socialize the importance of sorting waste, and to provide training on processing organic waste into organic liquid fertilizer and compost so that it can increase family income. This activity is carried out live and online. After getting material on waste management and management. The results show that participants who want to manage waste want their surrounding environment to be healthy and beautiful as much as 88.2%, followed by managing waste can make money as much as 48.5%, waste management 29.1%, trust management rate 20.6% and need a more detailed explanation 19.1%. This activity will provide solutions to problems that develop in the community, increasing people's income.

Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) for estimate economic valuation for flood risk in DKI Jakarta Province

A 4-day-flood occurred in Jakarta Province, Indonesia at the end of 2019 caused severe moral and material losses and weakened the economy. Various flood risk management methods are available to mitigate this damage. Assessing flood risks is thus an essential task for disaster management activities. An accurate flood risk map is required to be developed. In this research, we developed an economic valuation of flood risk that combines a quick flood map with the consequences of flooding using the Multi – Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) in the DKI Jakarta area. A quick identification of flood zones was carried out using SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar). We estimated that about 54.10 km2 area was flooded area with a total economic loss about 1.406 trillion rupiahs. The sector of construction (10.10%), manufacturing (11.51%), wholesale, rental trade and repair of vehicles (13,90%), business activities (6.77%), financial & insurance (7.33%), and information & communication (7.6%) are major affected sectors that contributes 56.86% of the total economic loss from the market value. 20.49%-other service activities implicitly underestimate the value of environmental services and human productivities. To understand this, a detailed analysis of non-market value is needed in understanding the actual total economic loss.

Economic values of environmental services of three forest areas in South Ogan Komering Ulu District, South Sumatra, Indonesia

Biodiversitas 23: 6180-6190. Forest provides environmental services in the form of provisioning, regulating, supporting and cultural services. However, forest is often valued from its timber products, neglecting its broader role in delivering environmental services especially its role in maintaining ecological functions. Forests in South Ogan Komering Ulu District, South Sumatra, Indonesia have high ecological importance in delivering environmental services, yet these forests are pressured by clearing and conversion into plantations and agriculture. The study aimed to comprehensively calculate the total economic value of environmental services delivered by three forest areas in South Ogan Komering Ulu, namely Gunung Raya Wildlife Reserve, Saka Production Forest and Saka Limited Production Forest. We calculated total economic value by incorporating the use value, which consists of direct use value and indirect use value, and the non-use value, which consists of option value, existence value and bequest value. The results revealed that the total economic value of the three forest areas is IDR 863,868,883,037. In more detail, the use value consisted of direct use value with IDR 354,378,792,460 contributing to 41.02% and indirect use value with IDR 509,309,370,324 contributing to 58.96% to the total economic value. The non-use value is from the option value, the existence value and bequest value with IDR 97,449,120 (0.01%), IDR 65,512,153 (0.01%) and IDR 17,758,980 (0.0021), respectively. Our study implies that forest has tremendous ecological functions which provide a very high economic value and environmental services, where these functions are often neglected.

Valuasi Ekonomi Kawasan Karst Desa Jatijajar Kecamatan Ayah Kabupaten Kebumen

Jatijajar Village which is included in the Gombong karst area in accordance with the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Decree No. 3043 K / 40 / MEM / 2014 and confirmed by the Kebumen Regency Regional Regulation No. 23 of 2012 concerning RTRW of Kebumen Regency for 2011 - 2013. Karst is a landscape of the karstification process of carbonate rock (CaCO3) which is deposited after passing through the available geological space and time. Karst has a distinctive hydrological condition due to the dissolution of carbonate rock due to the physical properties of limestone which is easily soluble and has secondary porosity so that it cannot store water for a long time. Rainwater that flushes the karst area directly falls to the bottom of the water-saturated zone and then flows through cracks and large passageways (caves) such as canals to springs exit points or is directly dumped into the sea, only a small amount flows on the surface. Until now, it has the potential value of environmental services (environmental services) and ecological services both in the karst area itself and in the non-karst area which is used as a buffer zone. The underground river system that is formed in the karst area provides benefits to the environment around the karst area and even the community as a provider of clean water needs that are perennial / flowing throughout the season. Characteristics of natural resources in the Karst Gombong area of Jatijajar Village have resource characteristics in the form of direct use, namely from the existence of a water hydrological system from the karst area which consists of the value of water resource utilization which is used to meet household needs, the value of water resources for lowland rice farming, and Water Resources from underground rivers in the karst area are 15 springs. The total economic value of the potential use of existing resources in the Gombong Karst Gombong area of Jatijajar Village is IDR 87,616,789,519 in one year. The magnitude of this value is the value of natural and environmental resources from the direct use of the availability of natural resources to the community. These values will be lost if the karst area is damaged either from mining activities or changes in environmental functions. In fact, this value will be a value that must be spent by the community in order to compensate for the loss of potential natural resources in the karst area

The aim of this program is to improve the skills and sensitivity of the team of practitioners in the design of concepts and strategies in the management and use of mangrove forest ecosystems as a field of community-based ecotourism. Output targets include; Increased knowledge about the potential of mangrove ecosystems that have the value of environmental services that can be managed and used as an ecotourism field in accordance with community participation and empowerment. With the implementation of this program, a form of strategy is obtained in the management and use of community-based mangrove ecosystems and assistance for local government programs in the context of mangrove ecosystem preservation that have been regulated in regional regulations on the management and preservation of mangrove ecosystems. The method of implementing the program concerns the potential of forest areas that can be used as ecotourism areas in this case, the village government of Serang Regency, Tirayasa District, direct observation and documenting the location of mangrove ecosystem areas, plan interviews concerning the management and use of mangrove ecosystems as a field of community-based ecotourism, and socialization of mangrove ecosystem management and use as an ecotourism field based on community strengthening and Institutional. The results of the program obtained consist of a plan to manage and use the mangrove ecosystem as a community-based ecotourism field. This design will be a model that can be used by partners in this case the Lontar village government in Tirayasa District, Serang Regency in the development of mangrove ecosystems as an ecotourism area. The design to explore the management of plans and the use of mangrove ecosystems as ecotourism areas has been socialized by community leaders, youth leaders and village governments

Analisis Kesediaan Membayar (Willingness to Pay) Jasa Lingkungan pada Destinasi Ekowisata Umbul Manten di Kabupaten Klaten – Jawa Tengah

Klaten Regency has natural and artificial tourism with the number of visitors reaching 1,399,167 people. One of the natural attractions, Umbul Manten, presents natural water baths that come out of the aquifer to the ground surface. Sustainable ecotourism development so that tourism management does not only prioritize temporary satisfaction or benefits for certain parties, but prioritizes environmental conservation and education. The purpose of this study is to calculate the value of willingness to pay (WTP) to support ecotourism and determine the factors that influence the value of WTP. Data processing using the Contingent Valuation Method (CVM) method, one of the methods for assessing the value of environmental services to determine WTP. The WTP value to support Umbul Manten ecotourism is IDR 2,600 (person/visit) and the total value of WTP (TWTP) to support Umbul Manten ecotourism is IDR 156,000. The WTP value of Umbul Manten tourism is influenced by age and income factors.

The Arctic zone of the Timan-North Ural Region, to which the Komi Republic belongs, has a rich resource potential that is underdeveloped and ecologically vulnerable. The article presents the results of the economic evaluation of mineral resource potential of the Region Arctic zone, which show its high potential cost and an insignificant share of resources involved in industrial development. The authors base the assessment on their methodology, which includes the identification of the most economically promising mineral objects, an estimation of the gross value of resources, an evaluation of deposits via the net present value method with determination of the budget efficiency of the projects. The authors consider environmental risks by calculating the value of environmental services and analyzing their consumption and benefits. They calculate the cost of the mineral resource potential, taking into account the factor of ecosystem services, on the example of the Nechensky lignite deposit assessment. They outline that the assessment of the mineral potential of the region due to be based on the most significant objects, take into account types of raw materials, the size of deposits and technological features of development, and include the analysis of economic and geographical factors when choosing objects. The key indicator is the net present value of reserves taking into account the estimated resources of the prospection phases. The calculation of ecosystem services should also be included into the overall assessment of the raw material potential.

Integrating Economic Value of Environmental Services and Carbon Stock: A Case Study from Bogani Nani Wartabone National Park

As a conservation area, national parks play essential roles in environmental services provision and have the potential to support the REDD+ program. This study aims to estimate appropriate incentives for national parks based on carbon units by integrating the economic value of environmental services and carbon stock provided by the lowland dry forest ecosystem in Bogani Nani Wartabone National Park (BNWNP) consisted of North Sulawesi and Gorontalo areas. Carbon stock was estimated by establishing sample plots, including five carbon pools. While the economic valuation of environmental services includes biodiversity using the market approach, ecotourism using the zonal travel cost method, and water service using simulation water regulation services method and market approach. The total ecosystem carbon stock in BNWNP is estimated at 73.67 Mton. Meanwhile, the estimation of the economic value of environmental services is about IDR 70.57 trillion. Based on these results, the appropriate carbon values are IDR 683,308 and IDR 1,304,238 per ton carbon for the lowland dry forest ecosystem in Gorontalo and North Sulawesi areas. This result indicates that given its essential environmental services, the incentive for protecting national parks may exceed the carbon value used in result-based payment scheme in REDD+ initiatives that have been implemented.

Economic valuation of mangrove ecosystem environmental services based on green economy

One of the important agendas in current development is promoting mangrove forests as one of the green economic assets in Indonesia. The green economy concept emphasizes improving people’s welfare but reducing the risk of environmental damage and scarcity of ecological functions. One approach that can be used to maintain economic activity and preserve the environment is the economic valuation approach. Therefore, this study aims to measure the value of the economic benefits of mangrove ecosystem services as one of the concepts of the green economy as an effort to support government programs to realize the mangrove ecosystem as a green economic asset in Indonesia. The economic valuation method used to calculate the mangrove ecosystem’s environmental services in Takalar Lama Village, Mappakasunggu District, Takalar Regency. The value of mangrove ecosystem environmental services calculated in this study is the value of abrasion resistance, the importance of preventing seawater intrusion, the value of crab feed providers, the value of carbon sequestration, the value of oxygen production, and the value of maintaining biodiversity. The results revealed that the value of the benefits of mangrove forest environmental services as a barrier to abrasion was IDR 32,457,189/ha/year or IDR 973,715,670/year, the value to prevent seawater intrusion was IDR 3,394.445,688/ha/year or IDR 101,833,370,640/year, the value of benefits as a provider of crab feed is IDR 544,320,000/ha/year or IDR 16,329,600,000/year, the annual carbon sequestration value is IDR 198,300.07/ha/year or IDR 5,949,002.1/year, the value of oxygen production is IDR 2,011,590/ha/year or IDR 60,347,700/year, and the value of biodiversity is IDR 637,376/ha/year or IDR 19,121,280/year so that the total value of environmental services for mangrove ecosystems based on green economics is IDR 3,974,070,143.1/ha/year (275,052.13 USD/ha/year) or IDR 119.222.104.292,1/year (8,250,663 USD/year).

Environmental service assessment of trees at Yogyakarta International Airport open space using CITYGreen 5.2

Urban development has many negative impacts in the form of an increase in the concentration of CO2 in the air. One of them is due to the increase in the volume of vehicles. CO2 causes an increase in global temperature (global warming) through the greenhouse effect. Yogyakarta International Airport has a green open space planted with trees to support the existence of the airport itself. Trees have contributed to efforts to reduce CO2 in the air through CO2 absorption. Control of the amount of CO2 emissions in the air is done by adding carbon stocks on land so that the CO2 concentration does not continue to increase, therefore this research is necessary. The purpose of this study is to analyze the ability of trees to absorb pollutants and store carbon and estimate the value of environmental services that will be contributed by the tree green system at Yogyakarta International Airport based on existing planting plans. The research method used is modeling using CITYGreen 5.2 software to determine the value of tree services in the ability to absorb air pollution, carbon storage capacity, and cost savings that can be done by tree canopies. The method used in this study consisted of preparation, data inventory, and data analysis. The results of this study show that the value of environmental services provided by 125,72 acres of tree canopy cover in absorbing air pollution in the airport area is $ 9.045,54 / year or equivalent to Rp 133.356.587,10 per year, the total concentration of pollutants that can be absorbed is 3.813,30 lbs/year or equivalent to 1.729,68 kg/year, and the capacity of carbon storage is 1.326,46 tons with a sequestration rate of around 29,9 tons/year.

Forest is the most dominant area in composing the role of environmental services. One of the environmental services of forests is carbon absorption services. Forests play an important role in climate change, namely as carbon sinks and carbon storage (stock). Nature Tourism Park is one of the ecosystems that becomes CO2 storage and absorbent. The study was conducted for 1 (one) month in Buluh Cina Nature Tourism Park. This study aims to determine the potential of environmental services to absorb carbon, the economic value of environmental services to absorb carbon, and how the role of the government and society in the management of Buluh Cina Nature Tourism Park. The research method used in this study is a field survey method that measures tree diameters and determines tree species to determine carbon potential, the benefit transfer method to calculate the economic value of carbon absorption and indepht interviews to determine the role of government and society in environmental management in Buluh Cina Nature Tourism Park. The results showed that the potential of environmental services to absorb carbon aboveground level in Buluh Cina Nature Tourism Park was 358,919 tons / ha or 345,757,150 tons when extrapolated to the total breadth of Buluh Cina Nature Tourism Park. Furthermore, the results of the calculation using the benefit transfer method of the economic value of carbon absorbing services in the Buluh Cina Nature Tourism Park are Rp. 69,696,398,680, -. For the role of the government and the Society, the respondents consisted of the Head of the Buluh Cina Nature Tourism Park, the Head of Buluh Cina Village, Ninik Mamak and the Buluh Cina Village Society.The role of government and society cannot be separated from one another. The government and the society together maintain, protect and manage the Buluh Cina Nature Tourism Park in order to achieve environmental sustainability.

Forest Canopy Cover Assessment and Tree Benefits in Okomu National Park, Nigeria

The functions and benefits of forest canopy cannot be over-emphasized. Hence, there is need for the assessment of forest canopy cover and tree benefits in Okomu National Park, Nigeria. Assessment of different land cover types, quantification of forest trees and the environmental services they provided and lastly, the monetary value of environmental services provided by the forest was estimated. The Okomu National Park shapefile was used to determine the ‘Define Project Area’ tool and Google Mapmaker to determine and cross reference boundary. An i-Tree Canopy software was used to analysis tree canopy coverage throughout Okomu National Park, Nigeria. This study derived eight (8) specific categories of tree canopy data which includes annual benefits based on canopy cover percentages. The categories include: carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), ozone (O3), particulate matter less than 2.5 microns (PM2.5), sulfur dioxide (SO2), particulate matter greater than 2.5 microns and less than 10 microns (PM10*), carbon dioxide sequestered annually in trees (CO2seq) was 369,974.94T, while carbon dioxide stored in trees) CO2stor) (not an annual rate) was 9,291,459.06T. Carbon monoxide (CO) has the least amount in tonnes with 33.33T. The particulate matter category less than 2.5 microns (PM2.5) which has less quantity had more monetary value (USD523,66835) than particulate matter greater than 2.5 microns and less than 10 microns (PM10*) with monetary value of USD183,90714.
