This article explores the intrinsic relationship between art, culture, and identity, highlighting the role of art as a catalyst for social change. Art, as a form of human expression, transcends the mere reproduction of reality, acting as a mirror, a mold, and a transformer of culture. Through art, individuals and communities express their worldviews, construct and renegotiate their identities, and challenge norms and values. Representation in art is essential to ensure that the voices and stories of all social groups are heard and valued, combating invisibility and exclusion. Art also promotes social inclusion, intercultural dialogue, and empathy, contributing to the construction of a more just and equitable future. However, the valorization of diversity in art faces challenges such as prejudice, discrimination, and lack of access to culture. To overcome these obstacles, it is essential to articulate public policies, educational programs, and collective action aimed at democratizing access to art and valuing cultural diversity.

CINEDEAF SCUOLE. Laboratorio permanente di diffusione della conoscenza sulla sordità

Arianna Accardo (Istituto Statale Sordi, Rome) focuses on the Cinedeaf Scuole project, a special section of Cinedeaf Festival dedicated to young people. Both deaf and hearing students of primary and secondary schools are involved in the development of audiovisual products and other didactic activities aimed at the valorisation of diversity and the promotion of active citizenship and social inclusion through cooperative learning.

Experiencing agro-biodiversity: a project for an app for the botanical garden of the University of Modena

The botanical garden is here considered as a place to educate the visitors, especially young people and their families, students and teachers, about agro-biodiversity, in order to inform them about landraces that characterised and still characterise the rural territory of Modena through multiple channels, physical and digital, combined in one integrated program. A specific work is intended to concern the botanical garden fruition, through the realisation of educational visit itineraries that add a new virtual dimension to the classical observation of plant species in the botanical garden. The realisation of an app, through the use of the augmented reality, allow to convey information about historical and contemporary diffusion of landraces in the landscape of the Modena area, providing a symbolic context in which young people is stimulated to preserve memory and local identity through a valorisation of diversity, also in cultural terms.

The dialogue between theology and the natural sciences

The relationship between religion and science, and more specifically, among Christian theology and the sciences of nature,has had historically different positions, from an open conflict to separation, fusion and dialogue. A dialogue between these two areasis proposed that is based on a model of respect to cultural diversity: valorization of diversity, openness to complementarity, respectfulconversation, without arrogance and without expecting an area to be ancillary to the other. The more important point is that dialoguebe oriented to promote society good. The objective should not be just the defense of science for science shake nor religion for religion’sshake, but the promotion of the welfare of society from a point of view that sees as disastrous any of these two situations: a sciencethat rejects religion or a religion that rejects science.

Knowledge networking in the cross-cultural setting here focuses on promoting a culture of shared communication, values and knowledge, seeking cooperation through valorisation of diversity. The process is seen here in terms of creating new alliances of creators, users, mediators and facilitators of knowledge. At the global level, knowledge networking is seen as a symbiotic relationship between local and global knowledge resources. This focus is informed by the human-centred vision of the information society, which seeks a symbiotic relationship between technology and society. It explores the nature of the knowledge in transition, raising issues of technology and knowledge transfer in the local–global context. The notions of human–machine symbiosis and of diversity and coherence provide a handle to explore the role of technology for sustainable development. The centrality of knowledge in stimulating knowledge networking for cross-cultural collaboration is illustrated through an exemplar of an EU–India Cross-Cultural Innovation Network project, a collaboration between European and Indian universities and institutes.
