Comparative Study of Chemical Activation and Physical Activation Approach to Optimize Biomass-Based Doped Carbons for Energy Applications

Two approaches have been utilized to optimize the energy storage characteristics of doped carbon materials derived from Lignosol, a biomass product, to address the rising energy demand issues. Herein, phosphorus and nitrogen co-doped carbon (PNDC) materials with varying doping agent volumes were synthesized by utilizing microwave irradiation. Chemical activation and physical activation were employed to enhance these materials’ characteristics. Chemical activation was performed in a one-pot, single-step process, rather than a traditional multi-step protocol, using small amounts of potassium hydroxide. Furthermore, the physical activation method required multiple steps: doped carbon was prepared via microwave, exposed to water, filtered, frozen and then dried. With this, the expansion properties of water at freezing temperatures were exploited to alter the materials’ surface characteristics. All materials were characterized and compared for their physicochemical properties. All defect ratios supported the presence of doping. Additional results revealed that both chemical and physical activation approaches effectively modify the topographical features as well as the electrochemical activity (charge storage) of the doped carbon materials. The chemically activated doped carbon exhibited the highest resulting surface area of 1352 m2 g−1 and a specific capacitance value of 347 F g−1 with excellent cycling stability as compared to other similarly synthesized materials.

Serendipitous Doping in Nickel Oxide upon Microwave‐Induced Low‐Temperature Crystallization Enhances Efficiency of Perovskite Solar Cells

Solution‐processed nickel oxide (NiOx) requires high temperatures (≈300 °C) and a long time (up to 1 h) to crystallize from precursors. Herein, thin films of NiOx are successfully crystallized at significantly low processing temperatures of ≈130 °C within a few minutes utilizing microwave irradiation. Microwave‐annealed NiOx (MWA‐NiOx) shows high electrical conductivity and transmittance comparable with those of conventional thermally annealed NiOx (CTA‐NiOx). NiOx crystallization occurs by ohmic heating mechanisms in the indium tin oxide layer, which simultaneously facilitates the diffusion of In and Sn metal cations into the NiOx layer. Consequently, the chemical composition in the MWA‐NiOx layer shows that both Ni2+ and Ni>3+ species are reduced, which is infeasible with CTA processes, where a decrease in one species necessitates an increase in another. MWA‐NiOx is incorporated as a hole transport layer in triple‐cation perovskite (Cs0.05(MA0.17FA0.83)0.95Pb(I0.83Br0.17)3)‐based solar cells. The short‐circuit current and open‐circuit voltage are enhanced compared with those of CTA‐NiOx devices owing to the combined effects of enhanced conductivity, reduced Ni>3+ composition, and better energy‐level alignment. This proposed crystallization technique of using microwave irradiation could be an effective alternative to conventional processes in improving the suitability of NiOx for optoelectronic applications.

Synthesis, antimicrobial, anti-proliferative activities, molecular docking and DFT studies of novel pyrazolo[5,1-c][1, 2, 4]triazine-3-carboxamide derivatives

In this investigation, we studied the reactivity of 5-aminouracil (1) with ethyl cyanoacetate (2) utilizing microwave irradiation to afford the corresponding 2-cyano-N-(2,4-dioxo-1,2,3,4-tetrahydropyrimidin-5-yl)acetamide (3) in excellent yield. The electrophilic azo-coupling reaction of acetamide 3 with aromatic diazonium salts afforded the corresponding hydrazone derivatives 4a–d. The Michael addition cyclization of hydrazone in pyridine to give pyrazolo[5,1-c][1, 2, 4]triazine-3-carboxamide 5a–d derivatives. The obtained compounds were elucidated against antimicrobial activity and antitumor activity breast cancer cells (MCF-7) and liver cancer cells (HepG2) utilized MTT assay. Compounds 5b, 5c and 5d revealed more inhibitory influence on MCF7 and HepG2 growth than the reference drug doxorubicin (Dox) after 48 h incubation. Furthermore, molecular docking studies were carried out on one of the most effective compound 4-amino-N-(2,4-dioxo-1,2,3,4-tetrahydropyrimidin-5-yl)-7-(4-fluorophenyl) pyrazole [5,1-c][1, 2, 4]triazine-3-carboxamide (5c) (TFC) with (PDB: 3t88), (PDB: 2wje) , (PDB: 4ynt), (PDB: 1tgh), (PDB: 4hdq) and (PDB: 3pxe) which attached with different proteins with different energies and shortage bond distance. Also; the comprehensive theoretical and experimental mechanical studies of compound TFC and TMC were compatible with FTIR and 1H NMR spectral data. Enhancement of Molecular imprinted polymer as organic fillers on bagasse cellulose fibers with biological evaluation and computational calculations

In this investigation, we studied the reaction of 5-aminouracil (1) with ethyl cyanoacetate (2) utilizing microwave irradiation to afford the corresponding 2-cyano-N-(2,4-dioxo-1,2,3,4-tetrahydropyrimidin-5-yl)acetamide (3) in excellent yield. The reactivity of acetamide 3 with DMF-DMA to afford the corresponding (E)-2-cyano-3-(dimethylamino)-N-(2,4-dioxo-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro pyrimidin-5-yl) acrylamide (4) which was confirmed through the spectral data IR, Mass, 1H, and 13C NMR. Furthermore, the optimization of compound 4 using the DFT/B3LYP/6-31G(d) confirmed with the experimental data. Compound 4 (Temp) was used as a template with the methyl methacrylate (MMA) in presence of ethylene glycol methacrylate as a cross-linker and 2,2’-azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN) (initiator) with different concentration. All the molecular imprinted polymers (MIPu1-4) were investigated with FT-IR spectral data, SEM, and XRD which showed that the hydrogen bonding with CN and sponge structure of these polymers with different pore diameters size ranging between 50-500 nm due to hydrogen bond interaction. All the polymers were optimized utilized DFT/B3LYP-6-31G(d) and compared with other monomers and our synthesized polymers are most stabilized than others. The MIPu1 and MIPu4 were used as organic filler with a different concentration in preparing paper sheets as application and show the effect of the filler on the tensile strength of the paper sheet, SEM, TGA, Ash content, and the sizability of paper. Also, the MIPu4 and paper sheet was investigated for antimicrobial activities and elucidation of the molecular docking studies.

Fabricating a g-C3N4/CuO heterostructure with improved catalytic activity on the multicomponent synthesis of pyrimidoindazoles

A series of fluorescence-containing indazole-fused ring systems were made with the support of g-C3N4/CuO as a catalyst via non-conventional (microwave) method. We have synthesized g-C3N4/CuO nanocomposites by mechanochemical process; further, its morphology and composition were studied using various instrumental techniques like Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Also, we have synthesized pyrimido[1, 2-b] indazole-4-yl methanol motifs without any solvent in single-step methodology utilizing microwave irradiation. The pyrimido[1, 2-b] indazole-4-yl methanol motifs were optimized using response surface methodology (RSM). This preparation was effortlessly accessible, and the overview of the substrates was authorized. The pyrimidoindazole core structures exhibit the most remarkable photo physical properties. Most of the pyrimidoindazole scaffold appears in solvatochromism and excited with blue–green fluorescence shift while using ethyl acetate as solvent. This result indicates that synthesized pyrimidoindazole core motifs have prodigious potential as fluorophores which will help us to study several applications. Graphic abstract

Kinetics and thermodynamics of synthesis of palm oil-based trimethylolpropane triester using microwave irradiation

Enhancement of reaction performance utilizing microwave irradiation has drawn so much interest due to its shorter reaction time and low catalyst loading. These advantages are particularly significant from kinetics and thermodynamics perspectives. This study aimed to investigate the kinetics and thermodynamics of microwave-assisted transesterification of palm oil-based methyl ester into biolubricant. The transesterification reaction of palm oil methyl ester (PME) and trimethylolpropane (TMP) was conducted at 110–130 °C for 90 min under vacuum condition. Sodium methoxide was employed as the catalyst at 0.6 wt% of reactants fixed at molar ratio of 4:1 (PME: TMP). The experimental data were fitted with the second-order reversible reaction kinetics mechanisms. The data were solved via Runge-Kutta 4,5 order using MATLAB software. Analysis on the data revealed that the reaction rate constants at temperatures of 110–140 ℃ were in the range of 0.01–0.63 [(w/w)(min)]−1, with standard errors of 0.0026–0.0228 within 99.99% prediction interval. Microwave-assisted reaction obtained 17.0 kcal/mol of activation energy. This method reduced activation energy by 49% as compared to the conventional heating. Activation energy and time-periodic energy assessment showed that the reaction was endothermic. The reaction at 130 °C is the easiest to activate. The positive Gibbs free energy (ΔG > 0) found using Eyring-Polanyi equation indicated that the transesterification was non-spontaneous and endergonic.

Microwave-driven heterogeneous catalysis for activation of dinitrogen to ammonia under atmospheric pressure

This paper presents an innovative approach to producing energy-dense, carbon–neutral liquid ammonia as a means for carrying energy. This approach synergistically integrates microwave reaction chemistry with novel heterogeneous catalysis that decouples dinitrogen activation from high-temperature and high-pressure reactions, altering reaction pathways and increasing ammonia formation rate. Results presented here demonstrate that ammonia synthesis can be conducted at 280 ℃ and ambient pressure to achieve ~1 mmol ammonia/g cat/h over supported ruthenium catalyst systems utilizing microwave irradiation. It is further shown that adding promoter ions such as potassium, cerium, and barium significantly improves the ammonia production rate over undoped ruthenium-based catalysts. This effect could be attributed to enhanced dielectric loss processes that lead to stronger microwave absorption by the catalyst. Measurement of the equilibrium constant under microwave conditions showed a higher ammonia yield than under thermal equilibrium conditions for both the iron- and ruthenium-based catalysts. Finally, this study also illustrates the advantages of using a variable-frequency microwave reactor for ambient-pressure ammonia synthesis. Mechanistically, investigators believed that the oscillating electric fields of the radiation can couple with adsorbed nitrogen on the surface and accelerate its dissociation. Since dinitrogen dissociation on the surface is rate limiting, this effectively accelerates the reaction. Overall, the study provides an in-depth analysis of the parameters affecting the use of microwaves in catalyzed ammonia synthesis. This process is fundamentally different from the commercial Haber–Bosch process and provides an alternative method of ammonia synthesis for certain applications, as it is tolerant to intermittent supplies of renewable energy, therefore effectively operating at variable rates of production.

Microwave-assisted in situ transesterification of wet microalgae for the production of biodiesel: progress review

Continuous efforts are done by scientists in the quest of finding sustainable alternatives for fossil fuels. Various feedstock have been carefully selected to be utilized in the production of biodiesel. Microalgae has garnered a lot of attention as early as in the 80s and is regarded as one of the most promising feedstock to displace fossil fuel. However, the utilization of microalgae as feedstock in a mass production of biodiesel comes with considerable challenges. One of the main obstacles is the high cost involved in processes such as drying and the subsequent lipid extraction of the biomass. These two energy extensive processes created a bottleneck in the biodiesel production at a large scale. As a remedy, direct or in situ transesterification of the wet microalgae biomass can be applied to entirely circumvent the two processes; hence substantially reducing the production cost. However, the presence of water in the wet microalgae biomass posed a challenge in the transesterification process. This paper covers the specific techniques of utilizing microwave irradiation during the in situ transesterification of wet microalgae biomass.

A Facile Microwave Assisted TEMPO/NaOCl/Oxone (KHSO5) Mediated Micron Cellulose Oxidation Procedure: Preparation of Two Nano TEMPO‐Cellulose Forms

AbstractAn efficient and rapid method is established for micron cellulose (1, 20 microns) oxidation utilizing Oxone (KHSO5) in combination with 2,2,6,6‐tetramethylpiperidinyl‐1‐oxyl (TEMPO) and NaOCl in aqueous NaHCO3 solution (pH 7.5 to 8.5) under microwave irradiation. This method affords two different forms of nano TEMPO‐cellulose, that is, a water‐insoluble form (Form‐I, 14 nm) and a water‐soluble form (Form‐II, 8 nm). Cellulose oxidation utilizing this Oxone methodology has advantages over other methodologies, which include low cost and formation of two nano TEMPO‐cellulose forms over a rapid reaction time utilizing microwave irradiation conditions. TEMPO‐cellulose forms are characterized by FT‐IR, NMR, solid state 13C‐NMR, and by elemental analysis. The TEMPO‐cellulose forms morphology is studied by scanning electron microscopy analysis. The average fiber width and length of TEMPO‐cellulose materials are determined in nanometer range by transmission electron microscopy analysis and the surface charge is identified by zeta potential.

Microwave Assisted Synthesis, Characterization and Antimicrobial Screening of Thiazolidin-4-one Substituted Pyrazole Derivatives

Background: This paper describes the synthesis of novel thiazolidin-4-one substituted pyrazole derivatives from the condensation reaction of hydrazide with acetophenone derivatives. Herein we describe the synthesis of fourteen compounds by microwave irradiation method. The synthesized compounds are in excellent yield by utilizing microwave irradiation heating. Objective: Compounds using different aromatic or heteroaromatic compounds should be synthesized and screened for their antibacterial activity to explore the possibility of pyrazole substituted thiazolidin- 4-ones as a novel series of antimicrobials. Method: Synthesis of thiazolidin-4-one substituted pyrazole derivatives was carried out under microwave radiation. Result: These compounds were identified on the basis of melting point range, Rf values, IR, 1HNMR and mass spectral analysis. These compounds were evaluated for their in vitro antimicrobial activity and their Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) was determined. Among them Comp. 4b and Comp. 4k possess appreciable antimicrobial and antifungal activities. Conclusion: A novel series of Thiazolidin-4-one substituted pyrazole were synthesized under microwave irradiation method and identified on the basis of melting point range, Rf values, IR, 1HNMR, mass spectral data and elemental analysis. The compounds were subjected to in vitro antimicrobial screening and their Minimum Inhibitory Concentrations (MIC) were determined. Among all the tested compounds, two compounds 4b and 4k exhibited moderate to significant activity against all the tested strains of bacteria and fungus were found to have appreciable antimicrobial activities. The results of antibacterial activity showed that compounds containing electron withdrawing groups were found to be more active than the compounds containing electron releasing groups.

Synthesis and Antiplatelet Activites of Some Derivatives of p-Coumaric Acid

The synthesis of new derivatives of p-coumaric acid was carried out through serial reactions, i.e. alkylating, base hydrolysis, catalytic hydrogenation, and Fisher esterification. All reactions except catalytic hydrogenation were conducted by utilizing microwave irradiation from a household microwave oven. The antiplatelet tests using clotting time showed that p-coumaric acid and its derivatives have antiplatelet activity which is related to the lipophilic nature of the compounds and its affinity with the selected target molecule, i.e. COX-1 enzyme (PDB ID 1CQE).

Reactivity of 3 towards diazonium amines salts to afford hydrazones undergo cyclization to give amino pyrazole and the fused heterocyclic compounds incorporating cyclohexyl moiety. The synthesized compounds excellently utilized microwave irradiation in short time and high yield. Methods: Synthesis of Fused heterocycles derivatives from 2-cyano-N-cyclohexyl acetamide utilizing Microwave irradaition. Results: Regioselective facile synthesis of innovative heterocycles from the reaction of 2-cyano-Ncyclohexyl acetamide (3) with appropriate aldehydes to afford the corresponding acrylamide derivatives 5a-f under microwave irradiation. Acrylamides 5 reacts with hydrazine derivatives affording the corresponding pyrazole derivatives 7a and 7b, furthermore the treatment of acrylamides 5 with 2-amino benzimidazole, amino pyrazole, and aminotriazole derivatives to gives corresponding pyrimido[1,2-a]benzimdazole 10, pyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine 12 and triazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine 14; respectively in good yield. Reactivity of 3 towards diazonium amines salts afforded hydrazones derivatives, which undergo cyclization to give the corresponding derivatives 19a and the fused pyrazolo[5,1-c][1,2,4]triazine 22, triazolo[5,1-c][1,2,4]triazine 24 and imidazo[2,1-c][1,2,4]triazine 28 incorporating cyclohexyl moiety. Conculsion: In this investigation, we have synthesized innovative pyrimido[1,2-a]benzimdazole, and triazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine, pyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine, 2-amino benzimidazole, amino pyrazole, aminotriazole, fused pyrazolo[5,1-c][1,2,4]triazine, triazolo[5,1-c][1,2,4]triazine and imidazo[2,1- c][1,2,4]triazine derivatives incorporating cyclohexyl moiety utilizing microwave irradiation. The compounds were obtained under microwave reaction in excellent yield in a short reaction time.

Construction of Fully Substituted 2-Pyridone Derivatives via Four-Component Branched Domino Reaction Utilizing Microwave Irradiation.

Microwave irradiation, four-component branched domino reaction of methyl acetoacetate/2,4-pentanedione, diethyl malonate, triethyl orthoformate and amines offering an extremely efficient strategy for the construction of fully substituted 2-pyridone derivatives under sustainable conditions is established. This self-sorting branched domino transformation is proposed to proceed separate through N-nucleophilic addition and imine-enamine tautomerization/condensation reaction generated from enamino ester and diethyl ethoxymethylenemalonate, and then would be subjected to an aza-ene reaction and intramolecular cyclization mechanism to afford the 2-pyridones with only water and ethanol as byproducts. The simple experimental procedure, high bond-forming efficiency, step and atom economy, inexpensive readily available starting materials, moderate to excellent yields, and good functional group compatibility are other noteworthy advantages of this method.

Stable Nanocomposite Based on PEGylated and Silver Nanoparticles Loaded Graphene Oxide for Long-Term Antibacterial Activity

The increasing occurrence of antibiotic-resistant pathogens, especially superbugs, is compromising the efficacy of traditional antibiotics. Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) loaded graphene oxide (GO) nanocomposite (GO-Ag) has drawn great interest as a promising alternative antibacterial material. However, GO-Ag nanocomposite often irreversibly aggregates in physiological solutions, severely influencing its antibacterial capacity and practical application. Herein, a PEGylated and AgNPs loaded GO nanocomposite (GO-PEG-Ag) is synthesized through a facile approach utilizing microwave irradiation, while avoiding extra reducing agents. Through PEGylation, the synthesized GO-PEG-Ag nanocomposite dispersed stably over one month in a series of media and resisted centrifugation at 10 000×g for 5 min, which would benefit effective contact between the nanocomposite and the bacteria. In contrast, GO-Ag aggregated within 1 h of dispersion in physiological solutions. In comparison with GO-Ag, GO-PEG-Ag showed stronger bactericidal capability toward not only normal Gram-negative/positive bacteria such as E. coli and S. aureus (∼100% of E. coli and ∼95.3% of S. aureus reduction by 10 μg/mL nanocomposite for 2.5 h), but also superbugs. Moreover, GO-PEG-Ag showed lower cytotoxicity toward HeLa cells. Importantly, GO-PEG-Ag presented long-term antibacterial effectiveness, remaining ∼95% antibacterial activity after one-week storage in saline solution versus <35% for GO-Ag. The antibacterial mechanisms of GO-PEG-Ag were evidenced as damage to the bacterial structure and production of reactive oxygen species, causing cytoplasm leakage and metabolism decrease. The stable GO-PEG-Ag nanocomposite with powerful and long-term antibacterial capability provides a more practical and effective strategy for fighting superbugs-including pathogen threats in biomedicine and public health.

Continuous Flow Synthesis of Zeolite-A from Coal Fly Ash Utilizing Microwave Irradiation with Recycled Liquid Stream

Coal Fly Ash (CFA) was converted to zeolite using continuous microwave reactors while minimizing the wastewater produced during the zeolitization process. At bench scale, a continuous flow tubular microwave reactor was used to explore the effect of microwave irradiation on the crystallinity of the product. The waste water was reused in consecutive runs and Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP) analysis was conducted during and after each run to observe the concentration of the cations. An increase in the production of hydroxysodalite compared to zeolite-A was noted at higher levels of microwave energy. The XRD and SEM analyses were also conducted to corroborate the results. The Cation Exchange Capacity (CEC) measurement showed the highest value of 0.405 meq/g when Deionized (DI) water was used, the CEC dropped to 0.177 meq/g for thrice recycled waste stream. It was also found that higher microwave irradiation resulted in faster crystal growth and the product crystallinity reached its maximum at 810 W of microwave irradiation in 60 min while 335 W of microwave irradiation resulted in the same crystallinity after 120 min of reaction.

Simplifying Nucleophilic Aromatic Substitutions: Microwave-Assisted Solvent Free Synthesis of 5-Alkylamino-2-nitroanilines

Background: Substituted 2-nitroanilines are synthetic intermediates used in the synthesis of important bioactive compounds. Nucleophilic aromatic substitution reactions with activated substrates, such as substituted 5-chloro-2-nitroanilines, usually involve the use of a solvent, high pressure conditions and prolonged reaction times. We describe a simple and straightforward protocol to prepare 5-substituted 2-nitroanilines that addresses these drawbacks. Methods: Utilizing microwave irradiation and solvent free conditions, a series of 5-alkylamino-2- nitroanilines (1-14) have been efficiently prepared by reacting 4,5-dichloro-2-nitroaniline with different primary and cyclic secondary amines. Results: The reactions proceeded in short periods of time (5-35 min) without side products, facilitating the isolation of 1- 14 in 55-93% yields. Reactions under microwave conditions were faster than those achieved with conventional heating. Conclusion: This simplified approach can be a suitable alternative to synthetic methods involving conventional heating. The reported methodology can be applied to generate a variety of 5-substituted 2-nitroanilines which serve as precursors to compounds of pharmaceutical interest. Rapid microwave-assisted synthesis of nitrogen-functionalized hollow carbon spheres with high monodispersity

With a high surface area to volume ratio and good transport properties, hollow carbon spheres are one of the candidate materials for energy storage devices. Furthermore, highly capacitive and conductive hollow carbon spheres obtained through an effective synthesis route are in high demand for future commercialization. In this study, nitrogen-doped hollow carbon is synthesized utilizing microwave irradiation. 3-aminophenol is used as a carbon and nitrogen source, while the hollow structure is obtained using a polystyrene latex (PSL) template. The carbon shell thickness is easily adjusted by changing the mass ratio of 3-aminophenol to PSL, while control of the particles size is accomplished by changing the size of PSL particles. The steps in shell formation are explained based on the changes in the ζ-potential measured using a zetasizer. The synthesis duration was 50% shorter than that required by the common hydrothermal method, making this synthesis route promising for future development toward mass production. The high nitrogen content, primarily composed of pyridinic, pyrollic, and graphitic nitrogen, contribute to a volume-specific capacitance of 16.3 F cm−3. 93.1% of the total capacitance is maintained after 1600 charge-discharge cycles and the energy and power densities are superior to that of activated carbon.

Semiconductor nanocrystals that show plasmonic resonance represent an emerging class of highly promising plasmonic materials with potential applications in diverse fields, such as sensing and optical and optoelectronic devices. We report a new approach to synthesizing homogeneous covellite CuS nanoplatelets in air and the almost complete disappearance of their plasmonic resonance once coupled with multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs). These nanoplatelets were rapidly synthesized by a simple microwave-assisted approach at a relatively low reaction temperature in air, instead of under N2 as reported previously. These less severe synthesis conditions were enabled by appropriately selecting a Cu precursor and preparing a precursor sulfur solution (instead of using solid sulfur) and by using microwave radiation as the heat source. The advantages of utilizing microwave irradiation, including uniform and rapid heating, became clear after comparing the results of the synthesis with those achieved using a conventional oil-bath method under N2. The CuS nanoplatelets prepared in this way showed very strong plasmon resonance at c. 1160 nm as a result of their free charge carriers at the calculated density of nh = 1.5 × 10(22) cm(-3) based on the Drude model. With the aim of exploring their potential for near-infrared responsive optoelectronic devices, they were hybridized with functionalized MWCNTs. Their strong plasmon resonance almost completely disappeared on hybridization. Detailed investigations excluded the effect of possible structural changes in the CuS nanoplatelets during the hybridization process and a possible effect on the plasmon resonance arising from the chemical bonding of surface ligands. Charge transfer was considered to be the main reason for the almost complete disappearance of the plasmon resonance, which was further confirmed by terahertz (THz) time-domain spectrometry and THz time-resolved spectrometry measurements performed on the CuS-MWCNT nanohybrids. By extracting the rising and relaxation constants through fitting a single-exponential rising function and a bi-exponential relaxation function, in combination with the results of THz differential transmission as a function of the NIR pump fluence, it was found that hole injection changed the electronic properties of the MWCNTs only subtly on a short picosecond time scale, whereas the nature of the band structure of the MWCNTs remained largely unchanged. These findings aid our understanding of recently emerging semiconductor plasmonics and will also help in developing practical applications.
