Effect of exhaust gas recirculation on the performance and emission characteristics of diesel engine with hydrogen fuel and nano additives

One of the most popular techniques for reducing emissions, in particular nitrogen oxide (NOX), carbon monoxide (CO), carbon dioxide (CO2), and particulate matter (PM), is exhaust gas recirculation (EGR). In an EGR system, the intake manifold is used to re-introduce some of the exhaust gases into the combustion chamber. Diesel engine performance could be enhanced by employing the right number of nano additives. Nano additions aid in increasing efficiency when using hydro fuel. The following systems are impacted by the use of EGR: brake specific fuel consumption (BSFC), diesel engine combustion characteristics, brake thermal efficiency (BTE), engine speed, CO2 and HC emissions, turbocharged diesel engine performance characteristics, fuels, temperature, and on EGR.

Flame morphology of hydrous ethanol combustion under EGR dilution for port fuel injection and direct injection in a spark ignition optical engine

The increasing popularity of plug-in hybrid vehicles has prompted investigation of options such as range extender units, which may include small engines powered by biofuels. To minimize energy consumption, the best technologies must be chosen, including the use of exhaust gas recirculation (EGR, as a charge dilution technique) and the best alternative for fuel injection systems. Therefore, a combustion evaluation was conducted on an optically accessible engine fueled with hydrous ethanol to determine the effects of different injection modes, such as direct injection (DI) and port fuel injection (PFI), combined with EGR. The study employed high-speed camera imaging to analyze flame morphological characteristics and understand their impact on in-cylinder thermodynamics and engine emissions. The DI mode presented more stability than PFI, although the dilution limit was lower for DI.

Effects of hydrogen blending and exhaust gas recirculation on NO[formula omitted] emissions in laminar and turbulent [formula omitted] flames at 25 bar

In this work, the effect of Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) on NOx emissions in a CH4/H2/air combustion at 25 bar, at an equivalence ratio Φ = 0.7, is analyzed in laminar and turbulent partially premixed flames. Numerical simulations of twenty premixed and partially premixed counterflow flames with H2 ranging from 0 to 100%, with and without EGR, are carried out. Analysis of NO formation mechanisms shows that the thermal path is the main responsible for the NOx production in each flame, with a contribution of nearly 80%. In laminar flames an increase of H2 leads to an increase in NOx emissions. The addition of the exhaust gas decreases the flame temperature and therefore NOx: each laminar flame shows a NOx reduction of about 60% with the presence of exhaust gas. Four turbulent slot jet flames with a CH4/H2/Air/EGR premixed central core and Air/EGR as coflow are studied in a two-dimensional framework using the Reynolds Averaged Navier–Stokes (RANS) approach and the Large Eddy Simulation (LES) methodology, to take into account some flame dynamics, despite the 2D context. Accurate molecular transport properties are considered and, a reduced specifically designed chemical mechanism for methane/hydrogen-air combustion at Φ=0.7, consisting of 48 transported species and 465 elementary reactions is adopted. The four turbulent flames were simulated with 0 and 50% hydrogen concentration, with and without EGR. The presence of hydrogen reduces CO2 emissions, but at the same time increases NO concentration, the thermal path being the main NO formation mechanism. The use of exhaust gas recirculation leads to NO reduction as in laminar flames. The results obtained in this work show that at high pressure, the hydrogen enrichment of natural gas in the EGR mode leads to lower NOx as well as CO2 emissions.

Combustion characteristics of CI engine fueled with WCO biodiesel/diesel blends at different compression ratios and EGR

AbstractThe present study investigated the effect of compression ratio (CR) with the use of exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) technology on the performance of combustion characteristics at different CRs and engine loads; the brake thermal efficiency (BTE), specific fuel consumption (SFC), volumetric efficiency (VOL.EFF), exhaust gas temperature, carbon dioxide emission (CO2), hydrocarbons (HC), nitrogen oxides (NOx), and oxygen content (O2). The single‐cylinder, four‐stroke compression ignition engine was run on a mixture of diesel and biodiesel prepared from Iraqi waste cooking oil at (B0, B10, B20, and B30). A comparison has been achieved for these combustion characteristics at different blends, load, and CRs (14.5, 15.5, and 16.5) at 1500 rpm constant engine speed. The transesterification process is used to produce biodiesel and ASTM standards have been used to determine the physical and chemical properties of biodiesel and compare them to net diesel fuel. The preliminary conducting tests indicated that engine performance and emissions improved with the B20 mixture. Experimental test results showed an increase in BTE when CR increased by 17% and SFC increased by 23%. It also found a higher VOL.EFF by 6% at higher pressure ratios. A continuous decrease in BTE values and an increase in SFC were sustained when the percentage of biodiesel in the mixture was increased. Emissions of carbon dioxide, HC, and NOx increased by 12%, 50%, and 40%, respectively, as CR reached high values. NOx increased with the addition of biodiesel to 35%, which necessitated the use of EGR technology at rates of 5% and 10%. The results indicated that the best results were obtained in the case of running the engine with a mixing ratio of B20 with the addition of 10% EGR, NOx decreased by 47% against a slight increase in other emissions.

Effect of natural and forced charge air humidity on the performance and emissions of a compression-ignition engine operating at high warm altitude

The effect of ambient humidity on the performance and pollutant emissions of internal combustion engines is not considered in the literature despite type-approval criteria are moving closer to real driving conditions. This work analyses experimentally the effects of charge air humidity at high warm altitudes, where the use of exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) is typically lowered and even avoided to recover engine performance at the expense of NOx emissions increase, on the response of a compression-ignition engine under a wide range of steady-state conditions in terms of engine-out emissions and specific fuel consumption. The impact of specific humidity variations within the atmospheric range was analysed by coupling the engine to an altitude simulator with pressure, temperature, and humidity control capabilities. High altitudes and warm & high ambient temperatures were explored (2000 m at 30 °C and 2500 m at 45 °C) to cover ambient specific humidity up to 30 gwater/kgdry_air. In addition, the effects of increasing the specific humidity above the atmospheric levels were considered at 2500 m and 45 °C to emulate forced injection of water in the engine intake line corresponding to 60 gwater/kgdry_air. With this approach, understanding of the role of humidity is provided to highlight its importance as additional ambient property in emission control. In parallel, the assessment of the forced water content increase to control NOx emissions when EGR must be lowered was performed due to the altitude impact on the engine performance and turbocharger limits. The results showed a consistent and significant reduction in engine-out NOx emissions as the ambient humidity increased, reaching up to 300% with respect to the dry case, caused by the decrease in O2 availability due to the water content increase. The benefits of high humidity in NOx emission control at high altitudes when EGR is not feasible were complemented by an improved trade-off with particulate matter emission compared to the standard from EGR use. The results evidenced a reduction in opacity close to 250% for a given engine-out NOx emission when EGR was replaced by water content. By contrast, the slowdown of the combustion process as the fresh air humidity increased deteriorated the specific fuel consumption significantly as the engine load and speed increased. Nevertheless, these penalties ranged from 2 to 2.7% in the worst conditions and showed the same sensitivity for EGR and humidity increases.

Experimental Investigation on Combustion and Performance of Diesel Engine under High Exhaust Back Pressure

The use of exhaust gas recirculation, complex after-treatment systems, advanced technology of high-strength engines, and underwater exhaust will lead to increased diesel exhaust back pressure (EBP). This will increase the residual exhaust gas and the exchange temperature in the cylinder and reduce the fresh air charged in the next cycle. In this work, the effects of two high EBP conditions (10 kPa and 25 kPa) on the performance of medium-speed ship engines under different loads are explored through experiments. The results show that the increase in EBP from 10 kPa to 25 kPa has little effect on the heat release rate, engine power, and engine start-up time. However, it will lead to ignition advance and the maximum pressure rise rate, peak pressure, and exhaust temperature increase. The increase in EBP has a more significant impact on the small valve overlap angle. Because the reduction in the valve overlap angle has led to an increase in the residual exhaust gas, further increases in EBP causes residual exhaust gas effects to be more pronounced. The effect of increasing EBP on fuel consumption depends primarily on which effect of exhaust back pressure on temperature and fresh air intake dominates.

Effects of EGR combined with DOC on emission characteristics of a two-stage injected Fischer-Tropsch diesel/methanol dual-fuel engine

Fischer-Tropsch (F-T) diesel and methanol are widely regarded as promising clean alternative fuels for engines. The emergence of reactivity controlled compression ignition (RCCI) combustion mode provides new approaches to the application of F-T diesel and methanol in diesel engines, but there is a pressing need to further reduce engine emissions. To this end, a dual-fuel engine test bench was built based on a high-pressure common rail diesel engine with a methanol injection system at the intake manifold combined with a two-stage in-cylinder direct injection (pre-injection + main injection) F-T diesel. The combined effects of methanol substitution ratio (MSR), exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) and diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) on the combustion and emission characteristics of the dual-fuel engine was investigated at 2000 rpm and 75 % load. The results show that EGR improves the combustion characteristics of the F-T diesel/methanol dual-fuel engine while adding a DOC significantly reduces engine gaseous emissions. However, as the MSR and EGR rate increase, NOx emissions decrease, but other emissions increase. NOx emissions were reduced by 73 % compared to the original engine emissions for an MSR of 30 % and an EGR rate of 15 % without a DOC. When the MSR is 0 %, the DOC promotes the conversion of NO to NO2. While, when the MSR greater than 0, the DOC promotes the conversion of NO2 to NO. When equipped with a DOC, CO, NO, NO2, NOx, MeOH, and HCHO emissions decrease as the EGR rate increases, with the reduction of CO and MeOH emissions being greater than 99.5 % and 93 %, respectively, and the maximum conversion efficiency for HCHO emissions being 82 %. The present study showcases the key challenges as well as advantages in the use of EGR combined with a DOC assisting the application of coal-based alternative fuels in dual-fuel engines.

Experimental investigation on the combustion, performance and emission characteristics of 1-pentanol blended waste plastic oil in a CRDI engine with EGR

Faster exhaustion of fossil fuels and escalation of pollution levels have increased the requirement for alternate fuels to fulfil the energy demand of the fast growing world. The present work attempts to use waste plastic oil added with 1-Pentanol in a CRDI engine to achieve comparable performances of pure diesel with significantly reduced hazardous emissions. The experiments were carried out with 10, 20 and 30% of 1-pentanol blended with waste plastic oil on volume basis. The experiments were conducted at constant speed of 2000 rpm with load varying from 20 to 80% and exhaust gas recirculation by 10 and 20%. The fuel blend with 30% 1-pentanol exhibited 3.3% lower efficiency, 0.02 kg/kWh higher brake specific fuel consumption, 74 ppm of lower nitrogen oxide and 2.3 ppm of higher hydrocarbon emissions correlated to pure diesel. The use of exhaust gas recirculation reduced nitrogen oxides in the exhaust gas with slightly aggravated emissions of carbon monoxide. Considering the different combustion, performance and emission parameters, the fuel blend containing 30% of 1-pentanol and 70% waste plastic oil can be a potential alternate to pure diesel.

Effect of oxy hydrogen gas addition on combustion, performance, and emissions of premixed charge compression ignition engine

Premixed Charge Compression Ignition (PCCI) is one of the well-known ways to achieve low NOx and Soot emissions in Internal Combustion engines. However, this strategy has shown limited scope to bring down the Carbon Monoxide (CO) and Hydrocarbons (HC) emissions. To overcome this drawback, a novel attempt had been made to use oxy hydrogen gas as fuel additive in the PCCI engine. The conventional CI engine was converted into PCCI engine by Port Fuel Injection of diesel fuel and preheating of air. The comparison was made between Conventional Diesel Combustion (CDC) and PCCI mode with and without use of oxy hydrogen gas. Due to accelerated chemical reactions, Indicated Mean Effective Pressure and Indicated Thermal Efficiency improved. Due to the addition of the oxy hydrogen gas the average reduction in CO emission was 26.19% at 25% load and 18.88% at 50% load. In the case of HC, the average emission reduction was 19.27% at 25% load and 23.74% at 50% load. NOx emissions were within the range of 10 ppm even after the addition of oxy hydrogen gas. The oxy hydrogen gas addition resulted in almost negligible Smoke and oxides of nitrogen emissions even without the use of exhaust gas recirculation.

Combined effect of ‘biodiesel, ethanol, exhaust gas recirculation and magnetization of fuel’ on the performance and emission parameters of diesel engine.

Utilization of biodiesel as alternative fuel results in higher emission of oxides of nitrogen (NOx) and reduced performance parameters. Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) is a great technology to control the emission of NOx, but use of EGR reduces the performance parameters of diesel engines. Oxidative addition and magnetization of fuel help to make the combustion complete. In the present investigation, Jatropha biodiesel has been used with diesel in the form of a blend having 20% biodiesel (BD20) as fuel in 4-stroke, direct ignition, diesel engine. 5% Ethanol (E5) has been used as additive along with biodiesel blends and 10% EGR. The magnetization of fuel (MF) has been done with the help of a permanent magnet having strength of 3000 gauss. The results of this investigation show that BD20 is beneficial as fuel for reducing emissions like Carbon Mono-oxide, Hydro-Carbon, and smoke but it reduces Brake Power and Brake Thermal Efficiency. BD20E5 gives better performance parameters than the BD20, but the emission of HC increases slightly. 10% EGR reduces NOx emission with a small cost of performance parameters but with MF performance and emission parameters were improved.

Theoretical and experimental evaluation of the spark-ignition premixed oxy-fuel combustion concept for future CO2 captive powerplants

Oxy-fuel combustion concept is one of the most promising technologies not only to avoid NOx emissions, but also to reduce CO, unburned hydrocarbons and soot emissions in combustion-based powerplants. Moreover, the concept facilitates Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS), thus promoting CO2 integration in a circular economy strategy (i.e. e-fuels production). For O2 production, Mixed Ionic-Electronic Conducting membranes (MIEC) arise as a solution to separate pure O2 from air, but its thermal requirements must be considered in order to guarantee its integration with the internal combustion engine (ICE). In this study, the combustion process using pure oxygen as oxidizer is studied in a spark ignition ICE. A numerical method to assess the combustion process and engine outputs in oxy-fuel operation, taking into account the thermo-mechanical constraints, is developed and validated with experiments. It has been concluded that the use of exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) is more appropriated than O2 for diluting the oxidizer, and the best operating strategy consists in using stoichiometric conditions and 60% to 70% EGR rate, thus having a good compromise between combustion stability and efficiency, engine integrity, and MIEC operation. It is also shown that oxy-fuel combustion reduces knocking propensity and hence, on the one hand, it provides some room for spark optimization, specially at high load; on the other hand, it allows increasing compression ratio. Both strategies are interesting to compensate the expected fuel consumption increase observed in oxy-fuel operation.

Effect of exhaust gas recirculation on the performance and emission characteristics of a DI‐CI engine fueled with butanol/diesel blends

AbstractThe rapid consumption of fossil fuels, ever rising energy demand, and rigorous emission norms have been attracting the attention of researchers toward clean renewable fuels such as alcohol‐based fuels. Higher chain alcohol fuels are attractive alternative fuels for use in diesel engine. A higher chain alcohol (butanol, pentanol, etc.,) has better blending properties, higher calorific value, and higher cetane number than the lower chain alcohol. Alcohol fuels can be produced from the biomass. Therefore, it is important to examine the fuel, as well as its blends with diesel fuel in diesel engine for the engine characteristics. The present paper aims at studying the performance characteristics of a DI‐CI engine using butanol/diesel (B/D) blends with and without exhaust gas recirculation (EGR). Experiments were performed on a single cylinder CI engine with two different B/D blends (20% and 40% by volume of butanol in the mixture—denoted as a Bu20 and Bu40), with different EGR rates (0%–30% in steps of 10%). The experimental results showed that the brake thermal efficiency (BTE) improved by 1.1% and 1.25% for Bu20 and Bu40 blends in comparison with Bu00. Nitrogen oxides (NOx) emissions reduced by 7.9%, 12.9% for Bu20 and Bu40 blends compared Bu00 respectively. Similarly, the soot emission decreased by 18% and 40.9% for Bu20 and Bu40 compared to Bu00. With the use of EGR, the NOx emissions significantly decreased. At 30% of EGR rate, the NOx emission reduced by 53.9%, 60.2%, and 67% for Bu00, Bu20, and Bu40, respectively. The soot emissions increased slightly at lower EGR rates of 0% to 20%. However, the soot emissions increased drastically at higher EGR rates for all the B/D blends. It is concluded that a combination of higher fraction of B/D blends along with a small EGR rate, can achieve lower emissions (soot and NOx) with a small penalty on the engine performance.

Oxide Emissions Reduction from Combustion Control in a Diesel Engine

The authors showed that the European Union norms for the toxicity of exhaust gases (Euro 1 – Euro 5) contributed to the reduction of main harmful components emissions by several times. In foreign countries, Stage and Tier regulations applied to tractor equipment, which also limited the content of toxic components at the legislative level.(Research purpose) To reduce the content of nitrogen oxides in exhaust gases by more efficient regulation of the fuel charge distribution in the gas-diesel engine cylinder, changes in the concentration of diesel and gas fuel in certain zones, as well as the use of exhaust gas recirculation.(Materials and methods) The authors analyzed the results of modeling the formation of nitrogen oxides by controlling the workflow in the gas-diesel modification of the diesel engine. In the calculations, the geometric parameters of the D-120 engine, operating at 2000 revolutions per minute, with a filling of 0.6-0.9 volume, were used. The average excess air ratio for the charge was 1.2-3.0, and the excess air ratios for the gas-air mixtures did not exceed 1.2-2.5.(Results and discussion) Using the computational model, the authors estimated the parameters at different pressures at the engine inlet within 0.05-0.09 megapascals, as well as with an increase in the residual gas coefficient in the range of 5-15 percent with a decrease in the concentration of nitrogen oxides from 2500 to 1100 parts per million. Experiments showed that when the power changed from 100 to 20 percent, the nitrogen oxides concentration decreased from 1940 to 800 parts per million.(Conclusions) The authors confirmed the adequacy of the calculation model. They determined that a 40-50 percent reduction in the nitrogen oxide concentration in exhaust gases was achieved with various layering schemes in the combustion chamber. They found that the standards for carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons and nitrogen oxides would require mixed engine regulation. It was proved that recirculation of 15 percent of exhaust gases could reduce nitrogen oxide emissions by another 50 percent.

Thermoeconomic analysis and multi‐objective optimization of a solid‐oxide fuel cell plant coupled with methane tri‐reforming: Effects of thermochemical recuperation

An 80-kW solid-oxide fuel cell (SOFC)-based power plant coupled with methane tri-reforming is proposed and analyzed from the viewpoint of thermoeconomics. In order to integrate the SOFC power generation section with the external reformer, part of the exhaust gases from the afterburner is recycled and utilized as a reformer agent in the reactor. The main challenge in performing the economic analysis is the determination of the costs associated with the tri-reforming process, in particular the reactor cost. To accomplish this, a mathematical procedure is suggested and applied for a fixed-bed reactor based on both the chemical equilibrium and chemical kinetics describing the tri-reforming process. The effects on system performance of important design parameters, including current density, SOFC operating temperature, and exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) percentage, are investigated. The results indicate that system performance is enhanced by using lower values of current density and higher values of SOFC operating temperature. In addition, considering the thermal and environmental performance of system as criteria, the use of EGR is not recommended. However, as the EGR percentage increases, the product unit cost decreases, making EGR advantageous from an economic perspective.

Evolution of EGR cooler deposits under hydrocarbon condensation: Analysis of local thickness, roughness, and fouling layer density

Stringent new automobile emission standards have prompted extended the use of exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) systems in additional areas of engine maps, resulting in the operation of engines with exhaust gas flows having higher concentrations of particulate matter and hydrocarbons. These new operating conditions promote the formation of fouling layers inside the EGR cooler, owing to the accumulation of soot agglomerates and their interactions with hydrocarbon condensates. Hence, this study analyses the effects of hydrocarbons on the formation and evolution of deposits that grow on a ribbed surface. Using an experimental layout, an exhaust flow with soot agglomerates and a representative species of hydrocarbon vapour typically encountered in EGR flows are generated. The particulate matter of the exhaust stream is categorised using transmission electron microscopy images, while the deposits generated are analysed at different instants of the fouling process through tests of different durations. The effects of a high HC content on the fouling are assessed through the measurement of the local fouling layer thickness and the local roughness of the deposit. The outlet gas temperature and thermal efficiency are monitored during the fouling process; additionally, the density of the fouling layer is evaluated. The results reveal that, considering higher hydrocarbon concentrations, the thickness of the fouling layer decreased in regions near the outlet section of the deposit during the early stages of the deposit formation. When the large agglomerates generated under a high HC content hit the fouling layer on the windward side of the ribs, they modify the surface texture of the deposit, resulting in higher roughness values. Moreover, the analysis of the deposit density reveals that when hydrocarbon condensation occurs during the early phases of the fouling process, the density of the deposit can be 1.9 times higher than those of deposits generated in longer-duration tests.

Motorized vehicles that are very suitable for transportation and heavy equipment vehicles are diesel engines, because their high combustion efficiency, reliability, fuel flexibility, and low fuel consumption make diesel widely used in several countries. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of using a mixture of biosolar fuels, low levels of methanol and jatropha on power in a diesel engine using the hot Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system. This study uses an experimental method, using a 4JB1 diesel engine, the percentage of biodiesel fuel mixture, low levels of methanol and jatropha, Low Purity Methanol has a moisture content of 24.88%. The ratio of biosolar mixture, methanol and jatropha used are D85LPM5J10, D80LPM10J10, D75LPM15J10, D75LPM5J20, D70LPM10J20, D65LPM15J20, D65LPM5J30, D60LPM10J30 and D55LPM15J30. EGR openings vary from 0%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 100%. The test is carried out at a constant speed of 2000 rpm and is given a load of 25%, 50%, 75% and 100%. This study uses a dynamite brand Land & Sea dynamite. The results of this study are the use of EGR resulted in increasing the value of brake power. The effect of the fuel mixture causes the value of brake power tends to fall compared to D100. When using D85LPM5J10, D80LPM10J10, D70LPM10J20 and D55LPM15J30 at low loads (25%) there is an increase in power by 12.03%, 7.50%, 5.01%, and 5.97%. Emission Characteristics under Diesel and Biodiesel Fueled Compression Ignition Engine with Various Injector Holes and EGR Conditions

The combustion performance of a conventional rail diesel engine was investigated by measuring the exhaust gas with the respect to the number of injector holes, fuel type, and the use of exhaust gas recirculation (EGR), to provide a detailed reduction of environmental pollutants. It was found that a six- or seven-hole injector was more effective than a five-hole injector for reducing the exhaust gas. In addition, the mixing of 20% biodiesel oil with diesel most effectively reduced the HC and NOx contents. The technology generally reduced the NOx and CO contents of the exhaust, but had no significant effect on the HC and CO2 contents.

Study of the influence of the degree of exhaust gas recirculation on the working process of a diesel

Taking into account the consideration of methods for reducing nitrogen oxides (NOx) in diesel exhaust gases (EG), the use of exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) is justified. The influence of the degree of recirculation (ρ) on the performance of the diesel working process is studied. It is proved that EGR is an effective, economical and safe way to reduce the content of NOx in the EG of diesel, which simultaneously reduces the entire range of harmful substances emitted into the atmosphere of EG by reducing their volume.

Experimental Investigation of Effect of Preheating of Air and Exhaust Gas Recirculation on Four Stroke Diesel Engine

This paper is concerned with means for heating the inlet air passed to the cylinder by using specifically designed and manufactured heat exchanger and also use of exhaust gas recirculation to investigate its effect on performance, combustion and emission characteristics of four stroke single cylinder diesel engine. A diesel engine having a cylinder, 3.5 KW power, constant speed of 1500 RPM, water cooled, Kirloskar make, diesel engine was selected as base engine and the experiments were conducted at part load and full load conditions. The diesel engine setup was modified with (i) incorporation of heat exchanger which was designed on the basis of availability of waste heat at the engine exhaust for preheating of air and (ii) exhaust gas recirculation for waste heat recovery and reduction in the NOx. The Experiments were conducted for six setups viz. i. Basic diesel engine setup ii. Basic diesel engine setup with 6 % EGR iii. Basic diesel engine setup with 12 % EGR iv. Modified setup with heat exchanger v. Modified setup with heat exchanger and 6% EGR and vi. Modified setup with heat exchanger and 12% EGR. The experimental results obtained with modified engine setup with use of heat exchanger and EGR. The results obtained indicate thermal efficiency is decreased with heat exchanger and 12 % EGR compared to base diesel with 12% EGR. The volumetric efficiency is decreased from base diesel by 16.87 % with heat exchanger and 6% EGR at 75% load. The NOx emission is increased with increase in load for all the configurations.
