The Covid-19 pandemic has brought changes to every aspect of life, one of which is education. Due to these circumstances, conventional learning has turned into online learning to avoid potential virus-spreading in university clusters, and UPI Library and Information Science 2019 students must follow the policy. The study aims to determine the information-seeking behavior of university students in meeting their information needs and differences in information-seeking behavior before and during the Covid-19 pandemic. This study method uses a descriptive quantitative research method. The sample of this research is students who experience two types of learning, conventional learning (in the classroom) and long-distance learning (online class). The results of this study indicate that there are differences in information-seeking behavior of UPI Library and Information Science 2019 students before and during the Covid-19 pandemic both in terms of motivation, place, sources, strategies, and obstacles in finding information. This is shown from the percentages of respondents' answers that show a decrease in physical activity such as visiting the library and a decrease in the use of printed media in finding information during the Covid-19 pandemic. On the other hand, the use of electronic and online-based media to search for information such as e-journal catalogs is increasing, and the use of electronic information sources has also increased during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The study aims to identify the extent of the impact of the spread of the coronavirus Covid-19 on the use of electronic sources by beneficiaries at different educational stages to meet their knowledge and information needs for distance learning in some countries of the world, namely Egypt- Qatar – USA . Where the study included many sections, the first of which included the theoretical section, which included the methodology of the study and consisted of the introduction - the importance of the study and the reasons for choosing the subject - study questions - study limits - study methodology / study and data collection tools - previous studies as well as the definition of the virus corona in general and Covid - 19 in particular and what sources of electronic information, and the stage of its development over time and the most important physical forms within libraries and information centers that have become the most important information facilities in modern times, Then the study moved to the practical aspect, which consisted in the preparation of electronic questionnaire in Both Arabic and English so that non-Arabic speakers can answer it, in order to measure the impact of the coronavirus on the use of electronic sources, where the questionnaire included the number of eleven different questions to cover all aspects of the study, and specific so that the study community can answer it in order to achieve the principle of ease and speed where the number of sample study and which responded 554 students to be the basis of the statistical work and To reach the results of the study .

Influence of Gender Differences on Usage Patterns of Electronic Information Sources among Undergraduates of Selected Universities in Southwest, Nigeria

This research work investigated the influence of gender differences on usage patterns of electronic information sources among undergraduates in Nigeria. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design. The population was made up of randomly selected undergraduate students of Ekiti State University (EKSU) and University of Ibadan (UI). Data were generated through the use of questionnaire designed to elicit responses from respondents and analysed using descriptive statistics method of frequency counts and percentages. However, out of five hundred (500) copies of questionnaire administered, four hundred and twenty one (421) were returned which represents 84.2% response rate for the study. Findings revealed that there is no basis for gender differentiation in the use of electronic information sources as gender gap in electronic resources usage appeared negligible. However, it was recommended that university libraries in Nigeria should continue to give equal opportunities to both sexes in term of training and orientation on the use of e-resources among other recommendations.

Academic scientists’ scholarly use of information resources in the digital environment

PurposeThe purpose of this study is to investigate the academic scientists’ scholarly use of information sources, the disciplinary differences in their use and the barriers encountered, particularly while using journals.Design/methodology/approachA quantitative research design based on the survey method was used to achieve the objectives of this study. A self-administered questionnaire was distributed to all the academic staff of three disciplines – science, life sciences and pharmacy. Together, they constituted 24 departments of the University of the Punjab. This oldest and largest public sector university was selected as a sample.FindingsThe findings showed that e-journals, e-reports and online reference sources were frequently used. The disciplinary differences were found with regard to the use of e-journals and e-books. Users of e-journals lacked skills of advanced searching and were not able to determine the quality of e-journals. Respondents faced certain barriers in usage such as payment of e-journal articles not available through the Library, slow internet speed and lack of information literacy instructions program.Originality/valuePrevious researchers conducted studies that were focused mostly on the academic scientists’ perceptions and the extent of electronic information sources’ use. Researchers in Pakistan mostly examined students and research scholars’ use of electronic information sources and very few studies were conducted to investigate academic scientists’ scholarly information seeking behavior. This study is valuable, as it investigated the scholarly use of information sources by academic scientists and particularly disciplinary differences in their use, digital literacy skills and the barriers encountered while using e-journals.

Utilization Status of Electronic Information Sources (EIS) for HIV/AIDS Care and Treatment in Specialized Teaching Hospitals of Ethiopia, 2016.

According to the World Health Organization, the use of Electronic Information Sources (EIS) in healthcare is not merely about application of technology, but it is also a foundation to provide higher quality clinical care. This study was aimed to assess Utilization Status of EIS for HIV/AIDS Care and Treatment in specialized teaching hospitals of Ethiopia, 2016. A facility based cross-sectional study design was used. The study populations were 352 healthcare professionals selected by using simple random sampling technique from three randomly selected specialized teaching hospitals of Ethiopia. Quantitative and qualitative data were collected and analyzed by fitting multivariate logistic regression model and thematically by bringing similar themes together respectively. This study revealed that only 33.2% of the health professionals used EIS as supporting tool in their clinical practice including HIV/AIDS care and treatment. The main reasons for not using EIS were having no training 285(89.9%), followed by preferring print resources 20(6.3 %). Furthermore, there was statistically significant association between use of EIS and perceived electronic information retrieval skills AOR = 3.271, CI (1.942, 4.051), perceived quality of electronic information content retrieved AOR= 2.069, CI (1.051, 3.925) and limited access to computer and internet connection AOR = 5.072, CI (1.834, 5.931). In this study, only one-third of health professionals used EIS as supporting tool in their clinical practice. Hence, hospital boards should devise strategies to improve utilization of EIS.

Electronic sources and services in chaudhary sarwan kumar Himachal pradesh Krishi Vishvavidalaya Library: A study

Electronic resources are a modern concept with latest techniques and methods and a step further towards digital library. Its main objects is to provide facilities of elearning, e-journals, e-sources, e-books, e-contents and e-publishing with the help of internet at regional, national and international level through consortia. The Chaudhary Sarwan Kumar Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishvavidalaya libraries have moved steadily forward in creating new ambiances for electronic resources. The present study concentrated on evaluation of the use of electronic information sources and their overall problems in the use of electronic information sources and services.

Electronic Information Sources Access and Use for Healthcare Services in Governmental and Non-Governmental Hospitals of Western Oromia, Ethiopia: A Cross Sectional Study.

Access to and use of electronic information sources for clinical decision is the key to the attainment of health related sustainable goals. Therefore, this study was to assess Electronic Information Sources (EIS) access and use for healthcare service among hospitals of Western Oromia, Ethiopia, 2013. A descriptive study design with quantitative and qualitative data collection methods was employed. Study subjects were selected by using simple random sampling technique. Quantitative data were entered and analyzed using SPSS version 16.0. Moreover, multiple logistic regression was fitted to identify independent predictors, and qualitative data were transcribed and analyzed thematically. A total of 590 health professionals were participated in the study with response rate of 95%. Forty-two percent of health professionals had used Electronic Information Sources (EIS). Out of them, more than half used to get latest health information. About three-fourth of health professionals had no formal training on how to use EIS. Moreover, there is a significant association between use of electronic information source and information literacy training, computer literacy level, access to internet connection and access to computers. In this study, it was determined that more than half of health professionals in the study area were not using EIS. Information literacy training, self-stated computer literacy level, access to internet connection and access to computers with in hospitals were found to be statistically significant factors affecting use of EIS.

Use of Electronic Information Sources by the Visually Challenged Students in the State of Karnataka

This paper presents the use pattern of various web information resources by the visually challenged students. The category of students encompasses the students studying in the higher educational institutions in the state of Karnataka. The students who are pursuing undergraduate and postgraduate courses are covered here. Of late, many important sources of information are made available online and hence the users develop the trend of accessing information sources on the web. Therefore, students and researchers who are studying in colleges and universities have developed the habit of accessing e-books, e-journals, e-theses, online databases, current information/events and proceedings of seminars and conferences on the web. This paper deals with the extent of the use of various e-resources by the visually challenged students. Pragmatic and useful recommendations are provided as the outcome of the study.

This study aims to examine the use of electronic information sources (EIS) by the teaching faculties. The survey was administrated among the academic community along with the observation and informal interviews at the College of Dry Land Agriculture and Natural Resources, ‘Mekelle University’ Ethiopia in the year 2014. Pre structured questionnaires were sent to 176 teaching faculties to know how they elaborate the various aspects of EIS use such as frequency and purpose of EIS use, frequently used EIS, method of learning to use EIS, benefits of EIS, constraints faced in the use of EIS and the satisfaction level of faculties in the use of EIS. Suggestions have been given to strengthen the existing electronic information sources and services and to maximize the use of EIS in the college of Dry Land Agriculture and Natural Resources, academic community. Electronic Information Sources and Services in Anna University Libraries in Tamil Nadu: A Study

The present century is witnessing knowledge revolution resulting from rapid growth in info rmation and communicat ion technology, acceleration of technical change and intensification of globalization. In itially most of the student community has not made use of the invaluable electron ic resources. As time passed the training programmers have greatly removed the hindrances like lack of awareness, lack of refresher course work etc. It further contributed in motivating the faculty members as the majority student community are relaying upon electronic resources. The Anna University libraries have moved steadily forward in creating new amb iances for electronic resources which helped their users to find the relevant authentic informat ion that they need regardless of availability at local o r global level. Today our cultural heritage is being created by individuals and corporations in digital form as web pages are online publications. The present study concentrated on evaluation of the use of electronic in formation sources and services in terms of use and user satisfaction in Anna University libraries. The analysis shows that 3-4 hours of access to internet is quite common among the respondents of student and faculty members. The Study reveals that the faculty respondents occupy the first position with respect to their overall problems in the use of electronic information sources and services, students the second, non-teaching staff the third and the technical staff last.

Electronic information and clinical decision support for prescribing: state of play in Australian general practice.

Background. Investments in eHealth worldwide have been mirrored in Australia, with >90% of general practices computerized. Recent eHealth incentives promote the use of up to date electronic information sources relevant to general practice with flexibility in mode of access.Objective. To determine GPs’ access to and use of electronic information sources and computerized clinical decision support systems (CDSSs) for prescribing.Methods. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 18 experienced GPs and nine GP trainees in New South Wales, Australia in 2008. A thematic analysis of interview transcripts was undertaken.Results. Information needs varied with clinical experience, and people resources (specialists, GP peers and supervisors for trainees) were often preferred over written formats. Experienced GPs used a small number of electronic resources and accessed them infrequently. Familiarity from training and early clinical practice and easy access were dominant influences on resource use. Practice time constraints meant relevant information needed to be readily accessible during consultations, requiring integration or direct access from prescribing software. Quality of electronic resource content was assumed and cost a barrier for some GPs.Conclusions. The current Australian practice incentives do not prescribe which information resources GPs should use. Without integration into practice computing systems, uptake and routine use seem unlikely. CDSS developments must recognize the time pressures of practice, preference for integration and cost concerns. Minimum standards are required to ensure that high-quality information resources are integrated and regularly updated. Without standards, the anticipated benefits of computerization on patient safety and health outcomes will be uncertain.

End‐user training on the utilization of electronic information sources in fisheries sciences institutions in South India

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to investigate the use of electronic information sources (EIS) and the need for end‐user training in the Fisheries Sciences institutions of South India.Design/methodology/approachThis paper was conducted using a questionnaire‐based survey method along with the observations and informal interviews among the users of the seven Fisheries Sciences institutions of South India. The response rate received was 79 per cent. The sample respondents chosen for the study consists of 183 teachers/scientists, 71 research scholars and 81 postgraduate students. The data collected were tabulated and analyzed by using SPSS statistical software. The analysis of data covers the computer literacy level, use of different electronic sources, and frequency of its use, and the areas of training needed by the users of Fisheries Sciences institutions.FindingsIt is observed that the respondent's perceived ability to use the computer is quite high and that there is significant use of EIS mainly for research purposes. Though the majority felt that their level of computer literacy was average or above average, they expressed a need for training in the use of the EIS. The respondents preferred workshops, hands‐on training, on‐screen presentations and the need‐based support to self‐help guides/hand‐outs and training by central/state government.Originality/valueThe findings of the paper have provided useful insights for the library management to take appropriate steps and plan strategies in a systematic manner so as to enable the users to achieve a higher skill which in turn would facilitate the better provision and utilization of the EIS. The paper can also be of use for other subject areas.

The awareness and use of electronic information sources among livestock researchers in Tanzania

This paper is the result of a study that was conducted to investigate the accessibility and use of electronic information resources by the livestock researchers in Tanzania. One of the main objectives of the study was to assess the information literacy skills of livestock researchers. The study was conducted in three livestock research institutes in Tanzania with an overall sample size of fifty respondents consisting of livestock researchers and information professionals. Detailed questionnaires, interviews and observations were the methods used for data collection while data was analyzed by Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) and content analysis. One of the findings of the study was the lack of information literacy skills among most of the researchers and this was found to be limiting their access and use of e-resources. This paper discusses the level of information literacy that livestock researchers possess and its impact on these researchers’ awareness and use of e-resources.

Healthcare personnel's use of e-information sources in Riyadh governmental hospitals

ICT has enabled a wide dissemination of information and a sharp increase in the magnitude of electronic information sources. The use of e-information sources by healthcare personnel within Saudi Arabia has received little research attention. This paper discusses the use of e-information sources by healthcare personnel in the kingdom. A questionnaire with open-ended questions was designed to collect data from 11 governmental hospitals and health centres in Riyadh. It identified a range of problems and obstacles that impact on the use of electronic information sources. The identification of these difficulties opens the way for development and improvement of the current situation.

전자정보가 일반화되면서 전자정보 사용에 대한 이해가 절실해졌다. 본 논문은 전자정보의 이용통계가 무엇인지, 이 통계가 도서관 의사결정에 어떻게 사용될 수 있는지 그리고 데이터의 수집, 처리 및 분석과 관련된 제반 사항에 대해 기술하고 있다. 또한 이용통계와 관련된 대표적인 표준을 제시한다. 전자정보 이용 통계는 개별 도서관에서 활용하는 자료가 될 뿐 아니라 문헌정보학의 여러 분야에서 활용될 수 있는 연구 자료가 된다는 측면에서 이용통계를 사용하는 구체적인 연구방향을 제시하고 있다.
