Use of Digital Learning Resources in History Subjects Class XI of SMA Negeri 10 Banjarmasin

Learning resources are one of three important components in the learning process, namely students, teachers and learning resources. Success in the learning process depends on the use of selected learning resources and media. This research focuses on history learning for class XI IPS. The aim of the research is to analyze the use of digital sources as learning resources in history lessons at SMA Negeri 10 Banjarmasin. This research uses a qualitative descriptive research method. Data collection techniques were carried out using observation, interviews and document studies related to teaching modules, photos and learning resources. The results of the research show that learning history using digital sources at SMA Negeri 10 Banjarmasin is implementing learning in class via laptop and LCD devices as a means of providing material by the teacher to students via power points, pictures and explanations of the material presented by the teacher in class. The use of digital sources in class XI history learning has been implemented at this school. There are several digital sources that students use in carrying out the learning process, such as YouTube, e-books, and the internet by accessing Google search via the website.

Analysis of Digital Literacy of MIPA and MIPA Education Students

UNCEN Mathematics and Natural Sciences Education Department students are students who actively play a role in utilizing digital information sources. However, this raises problems regarding the use of digital sources. So because of the problems that often occur, it is not yet known whether students have utilized digital resources properly and correctly, so research needs to be conducted to find out more about what the digital literacy of students majoring in Mathematics and Natural Sciences Education is like in supporting learning using instant DCA (Digital Competence Assessment) measurements. which is a model and instrument used to determine and measure a person's digital literacy abilities. The research results show that the digital literacy skills of students majoring in P.MIPA in using technology are in the sufficient category with a percentage achievement of 59.25%. In the cognitive dimension, the overall percentage of results was 54.92%, which was categorized as sufficient. Meanwhile, in the ethical dimension, the overall percentage of results was 62.76%, which is categorized as good

Digital evidence and fair trial rights at the International Criminal Court

AbstractInternational criminal proceedings are witnessing an increase in the use of digital sources of evidence at trial, and it is expected that digital evidence will shape the outcome of upcoming decisions of international criminal tribunals. Digital footage may arguably enhance the efficiency of international crimes investigations. However, the high expertise required to access, analyse, and assess digital materials may widen the gap between the prosecution and the defence, thus undermining fair trial rights. This article examines, in the context of proceedings before the International Criminal Court, the impact that the overreliance on digital evidence may have on the principle of equality of arms, and how such a situation might be alleviated.

BRIDGING THE CULTURAL DIVIDE: THE CREATIVE USE OF DIGITAL MEDIA TO ENGAGE ADOLESCENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES AROUND MENTAL HEALTH

Current data suggest that adolescents spend significant time online and that their use of digital sources to obtain health information and access social networks that support health behaviors far eclipses that of their adult counterparts. In addition, cross-cultural and cross-generational differences in their understanding of mental health often complicate communication between patients and providers as well as adolescents and their families. Given adolescents’ familiarity with the digital landscape, digital interventions represent a unique opportunity for providers to engage adolescents and their families around mental health in a cross-culturally and cross-generationally meaningful way.

Nurses' sources of information to inform clinical practice: An integrative review to guide evidence-based practice.

Evidence-based practice in nursing is challenging and relies on the sources of information used by nurses to inform clinical practice. An integrative review from 2008 revealed that nurses more frequently relied on information from colleagues than information from high-level sources such as systematic reviews and evidence-based clinical practice guidelines. To describe the information sources used by registered nurses to inform their clinical practice. An integrative review was conducted according to the PRISMA guidelines, based on empirical research studies published from January 2007 until June 2021. The included studies were appraised, following which the identified sources of information from quantitative studies were compiled and ranked. Finally, the qualitative text data were summarized into categories. Fifty-two studies from various countries were included. The majority of studies employed a quantitative design and used original instruments. Peers were ranked as the number one source of information to inform nurses' clinical practice. However, computers and reference materials are now ranked among the top four most used information sources. Improvement in computer and information searching skills, as well as the availability of computerized decision support tools, may contribute to nurses' frequent use of digital sources and reference material to inform clinical practice. This review shows that nurses' most frequently reported peer nurses as their source of information in clinical practice. Information sources such as computers and reference materials were ranked higher, and information from patients was ranked lower than in the 2008 review. Developing and standardizing instruments and ensuring high-quality study design is critical for further research on nurses' sources of information for clinical practice.

Expecting parents' use of digital sources in preparation for parenthood in a digitalised society - a systematic review.

BackgroundIn today's society, people are experiencing the rapid development of digitalisation. Expecting parents may have difficulties evaluating the information online; they are not always sure which sources of information are trustworthy, and this exacerbates their feelings of anxiety. More research is needed to broaden the knowledge about how their use of digital sources may influence their health.QuestionThe focus of this study was to explore expecting parents’ use of digital sources and how this influences their health during pregnancy.MethodsA systematic review covered the thematic analysis of 39 articles.FindingsThe analysis resulted in the following theme: The digitalised society involves both opportunities and challenges, and expecting parents express a need for a variety of digital sources to improve their health, and sub-themes: Digital sources could promote parents’ health and well-being in a digitalised society; Consuming digital health information facilitates understanding, different feelings and social connections; and A variety of digital sources may facilitate parental identification and adaption to parenthood.ConclusionDifferent digital sources in our digitalised society mean access to information and opportunities to extend social connections for expecting parents. This can promote their ability to understand and adapt to parenthood, as well as to improve their health and well-being and make the parental transition. However, professional support during face-to-face consultations cannot always be exchanged to digital sources. It is important to base digital sources devoted to expecting parents and digitalisation overall on multi-sectorial collaborations and coordination between different organisations and the digital sources they provide.

Cite the Good Cite: Making Citations in Political Science More Transparent

ABSTRACTPolitical science research aims for greater transparency. Authors are increasingly expected to share their data and methodology so that readers and reviewers can follow their line of argument and replicate their findings. However, citations of books, articles, and other secondary sources in the discipline are still predominantly general, referring to entire works rather than specific parts of them. This article addresses the problem of the overuse of general citations as a disciplinary norm in political science. An analysis of articles published in five top-tier journals in 2019 reveals that only around 10% of the citations in these articles provide detailed source information (e.g., page numbers and location information) and identifies some of the causes for this scarcity. The article calls for more transparent citation norms in the discipline, suggests preliminary steps toward this goal, and proposes solutions for the challenges posed by the increasing use of digital sources.

Decisions Under the Illusion of Objectivity: Digital Embeddedness and B2B Purchasing

Research suggests that increased reliance on digital sources (e.g., blogs, social media, online forums) exhibited by the emerging millennial workforce may affect procurement decisions. These arguments contend with studies which indicate that organizational buyers rely on decision shortcuts (e.g., brand, loyalty, and peer opinions) to mitigate risk or to simplify purchase decisions. One can argue that buyers gain more information from digital sources, which may attenuate the role of these shortcuts. At the same time, digital sources may be used to strengthen prior beliefs, which can increase bias toward decision proxies. This study draws from information processing theory to understand the role of digital sources of information in decision‐making, in the context of business purchasing. Based on the Accessibility‐Diagnosticity framework, we introduce a Digital Embeddedness construct to conceptualize the extent to which information from digital sources is integral to an individual’s decision‐making. Analysis of survey responses from 196 purchasing managers suggests that more digitally embedded buyers are more willing to adopt innovations, yet interestingly, focus more on vendors from strong brands and peer opinions. We also find that while more digitally embedded buyers feel more cognitively attached to their existing vendors, this attachment does not translate into purchase loyalty. We discuss implications for buyer‐supplier relations and B2B marketing. By elucidating individual‐level differences in the use of digital sources, this research also has implications for future work that examines the interpretation of digital information to inform business decisions.

Revisiting the life of Lucy Garvin, first principal of Sydney Girls High School: expanded biography and use of digital sources

PurposeThe article sets out primarily to fill in some of the gaps in the biography of Lucy Arabella Stocks Garvin (1851–1938), first principal of Sydney Girls High School. As a reflexive exercise stimulated by this biographical research, the second aim is to explore the transformative work of digital sources on the researcher's research processes that in turn generate possibilities for expanded biographical studies in the history of education.Design/methodology/approachThis article encompasses two approaches: the first uses traditional historical methods in the digital sources to provide an expanded biography of Lucy Garvin. The second is a reflexive investigation of the effects of digitisation of sources on the historian's research processes.FindingsThe advent of digital technologies has opened up more evidence on the life of Lucy Garvin which enables a fuller account both within and beyond the school gate. Digital sources have helped to address important gaps in her life story that challenge current historiographical understandings about her: for example, regarding her initial travel to Australia; her previous career as a teacher in Australia and the circumstances of her appointment as principal; her private and family life; and her involvement in extra school activities. In the process of exploring Garvin's life, the researcher reflected on the work of digital sources and argues that such sources transform the research process by speeding up and de-situating the collection and selection of evidence, while at the same time expanding and slowing the scrutiny of evidence. The ever-expanding array of digital sources, despite its patchiness, can lead to finer grained expanded biographical studies while increasing the provisionality of historical accounts.Originality/valueThe article presents new biographical information about an important early female educational leader in Australia and discusses the impact of digital sources on archival and research processes in the history of women's education.

Learning styles in the digital library and their application in academic communities in the biomedical and health areas

Purpose This paper aims to confirm the importance of developing knowledge, skills and attitudes in the permanent use of digital scientific information, which complements the training of professionals in the biomedical and health areas, considering that this type of user communities require up-to-date and truthful information for future decision-making which will directly affect the health of patients. Design/methodology/approach The study started from the elaboration of a diagnosis on learning styles in a student community at the undergraduate level in the area of biomedical and health sciences of the Autonomous University of San Luis Potosí (Mexico) (UASLP), through the application of the Honey-Alonso Learning Styles questionnaire (CHAEA), and by using such results it was possible to derive learning strategies for the achievement of digital information competencies that were effective in practice. Findings According to the diagnostic results, the learning styles with the greatest presence in students in the area of Biomedical and Health Sciences were identified and from this, precise didactic strategies were derived to enhance information skills in the use of digital sources. For this case, the Big6 Model was used and its implementation was combined (face-to-face and virtual) in the academic community studied, integrating an information skills development program in the digital library of the Center for Information in Biomedical Sciences (CICBI) from the university itself. Originality/value A practical experience is presented, which also offered concrete solutions, based on particular characteristics of the users. There is a low presence of studies of digital libraries’ users that consider aspects related to learning styles, especially applied from the perspective of information sciences and the digital library.

State of the Field: Digital History

AbstractComputing and the use of digital sources and resources is an everyday and essential practice in current academic scholarship. The present article gives a concise overview of approaches and methods within digital historical scholarship, focusing on the question ‘How have the digital humanities evolved and what has that evolution brought to historical scholarship?’ We begin by discussing techniques in which data are generated and machine searchable, such as OCR/HTR, born‐digital archives, computer vision, scholarly editions and linked data. In the second section, we provide examples of how data is made more accessible through quantitative text and network analysis. The third section considers the need for hermeneutics and data‐awareness in digital historical scholarship. The technologies described in this article have had varying degrees of effect on historical scholarship, usually in indirect ways. With this article we aim to take stock of the digital approaches and methods used in historical scholarship in order to provide starting points for scholars seeking to understand the digital turn in the field and how and when to implement such approaches in their work.

Students choosing digital sources: Studying students’ information literacy in group work with tablets

The focus of this article is on digital literacy and students’ use of digital sources. We are examining how students choose digital video sources when doing group work with tablets in a social studies project. The analysis centers on how students collaboratively negotiate and reason around their choice of video sources during an assignment about environmental issues. The data corpus consists of videos of group work. A sociocultural perspective on learning is employed for analyzing student participation. We explore how the tablets influence the group interaction and how the group members negotiate the process of choosing the video sources found online. The findings show that students do not discuss digital sources only in terms of the formal criteria for digital literacy, but in relation to their perception of how the video sources are presented. It is important to shed light on this aspect of students’ use of tablets in school, because being aware of this facet could materialize in greater digital skills which in turn might expand digital literacy.

ORGANIZATIONAL ASPECTS OF IMPLEMENTATION OF CRM-SYSTEMS IN THE ACTIVITY OF THE ENTERPRISE

The article covers the main features of CRM–systems as well as the functionality of common platforms in the main scopes – sales management, marketing, communications with related inner departments; the feasibility of applying CRM–systems alongside with the usage of the project management approach in the context of the Kanban-processes and the methodology "AGILE" has been proved; the stages of implementation of CRM–systems at the enterprise from the position of personnel management and use of digital sources of information for making management decisions are outlined; the main advantages of using CRM–systems for business processes in general, as well as for marketing and organization of the work process in particular, are outlined.

At the same time, digital sources may strengthen prior beliefs, which can increase reliance on decision proxies. This study draws from information processing theory to understand the role of digital sources of information in decision-making, in the context of business purchasing. Based on the Accessibility-Diagnosticity framework, we introduce a novel Digital Embeddedness construct to conceptualize the extent to which information from digital sources is integral to an individual’s decision-making. “Tell me more and help me to decide, doctor” – Information seeking attitudes and use of information resources in patients with depression

IntroductionShared decision-making (SDM) has shown to improve adherence, decrease hospitalization, and enhance knowledge of the illness and satisfaction with mental health services. Eliciting each patient's preferences for information allows tailoring the physician behavior according perspectives and expectations. Patients with depression (PWD) have frequently limited information regarding the availability and efficacy of psychiatric treatments.Aims/objectivesUnveil information seeking attitudes of patients with depression and their a priori use of digital sources of information.MethodsA convenience sample of PWD was submitted to a battery of self-report questionnaires. Standardized instruments were used to measure information seeking attitudes and the accessibility and usage of digital information resources.ResultsThirty-six patients were inquired, with a mean age of 39.8 (13.4) years. Information-seeking preferences were high, with an API-I score of 90.1 (13.8). Preferences for information-seeking behaviors were higher in severely depressed (P = 0.010) and less educated (P = 0.026) patients. Preferences were negatively correlated with length of psychiatric treatment (r = −0.514; P = 0.002). Sixty-one percent had a priori information regarding their psychiatric problem, and 68.8% considered it was influential in the decision-making behavior. Access and use of digital resources were correlated with education level (0.644; P = 0.000 and 0.554; P = 0.003), age (−0.357; P = 0.001 and −0.559; P = 0.007) and illness severity (−0.431; P = 0.04).ConclusionPatients with depression want to be informed about their mental condition and treatment options. Few resources are used and decision mostly relies on health professional's opinion and guidance. Accessible resources seem scarce and future research shall address the acceptance and impact of decisional-aid instruments on this population.

Editorial for Special Edition, Digital Representations

This collection of papers comprises five contributions with a social science or social historical perspective that present the current state of the art in the field of re-using and publishing digital qualitative data. The articles address the use of digital sources in qualitative research in both research and teaching, charting types of use over the past 10 years, and looking forward to emerging practices and methods, such as the promise and potential that technological innovations can bring to enable new ways of presenting and publishing qualitative research. Some of the papers make use of direct linking allowing the reader to explore “live” data sources, offering an opportunity to see how research transparency might be operationalized in the presentation of qualitative findings and reporting. The papers reference major contributions to the literature and present stimulating debates on the topic and build on previously well-cited publications in which the editors have presented state-of-the-art articles on secondary analysis of qualitative data.

News Consumer Perceptions of New Journalistic Sourcing Techniques

This study examines how news consumers evaluate the use of digital sources in the journalistic news production process. It also assesses to what extent credibility judgments depend on whether consumers learn that journalists have visibly verified the information they have obtained from a certain source. Using a scenario study, we found that scenarios picturing online sourcing techniques, such as using information from Twitter and Facebook, are perceived as non-credible. This negative judgment is not mitigated by visible verification.

Access and Scholarly Use of Web Archives

This article provides an overview of current access arrangements of web archives. Using data from a user survey of the UK Web Archive, it attempts to analyse the reasons for limited scholarly use of web archives. It also examines the key characteristics of scholarly use of digital sources and translates these into a set of requirements for web archives. It discusses how current web archives fail to meet the evolving scholarly requirements, offering some thoughts on a way forward, from the perspective of a national research library and a web archiving service provider.

Vlot schrijven - Een multidimensioneel perspectief op ‘writing fluency’

This article presents a brief review of commonly used fluency measures in writing research. These ‘traditional’ measures are complemented with fluency indicators derived from keystroke logging. The data were collected from an experiment with 80 students writing two descriptive texts, one in their mother tongue and one in their second language. This study provided information on new measures to describe fluency, taking also more process related measures into account. Next, on the basis of a principal component analysis, a new multidimensional model is presented to better address the complexity of fluency in writing. The model consists of four dimensions: (a) production, (b) process variation, (c) revision, and (d) pause behavior. Finally, in an additional case study - focusing on the use of digital sources during writing - we explored a fifth component, viz. (e) source fragmentation. These five components create a multi-dimensional and differentiated perspective on writing fluency that can be further explored in follow-up studies.
