Code Mixing Used by Youtuber - Nessie Judge’s Entitled “Pekerjaan-Pekerjaan yang Sudah Punah karena Teknologi”

The blending of two or more languages or linguistic subtypes in speech is known as code mixing. Code mixing widely used either in written or spoken language. Social media nowadays mostly use spoken form especially YouTube. The purposes of the research are to investigate the use of code mixing in Nessie Judge’s videos and try to describe the type of code mixing used by the youtuber. Descriptive qualitative method used to gain the data analysis. The code mixing then, analyzed into two types: intra sentential and intra lexical code mixing. Type of intra sentential then classified into three kinds: interrogative, declarative, and imperative. The intra sentential and intra lexical then classified into five levels: word, phrase, clause, idiom and baster. The result shows that there are 24 types of intra sentential and 1 type of intra lexical. From the sub type of sentential found 23 types of declarative, 1 interrogative, and no imperative type. While the level of code mixing found 12 words level, 5 phrases level, no idiom level, 8 clauses level, and 2 basters level.

AN ANALYSIS OF CODE-MIXING USED BY ENGLISH TEACHER IN CLASSROOM INTERACTION AT NINETH GRADE MTS ANAK BANGSA

The research entitled "Analysis of the Use of Code Mix by English Teachers in Classroom Interaction" aims to identify the types of code mixing used by English teacher as well as the reasons behind their use in the teaching process. This research uses descriptive qualitative method, with the research subject being an English teacher at Mts Anak Bangsa. Data were gathered through observation, documentation, and interviews, and then analyzed using techniques for data reduction, data display, and drawing and verifying conclusions, as outlined by Sugiyono. The research findings show that there are three types of code mix used by teachers in classroom interactions, namely intra-sentential code mixing (77.16%), intra-lexical code mixing (12.34%), and involving change of pronunciation (10.50%). Among the three types, intra-sentential code-mixing is the most frequently used. English teachers use code-mixing due to situational factors, intrinsic messages and language attitudes which include dominance and security. The study concludes that teachers' use of code-mixing helps bridge language gaps between teachers and students, thereby enhancing students' comprehension of the subject matter.

Code Mixing Used by Yuki Kato in Bicara Cinta on Puella Id Youtube Channel

Code-mixing gives an understanding of a mix of two languages or more by the multilingual. This study aims at defining the types and the factors causing the code-mixing used by Yuki Kato in a Youtube video. A mixed method was applied, with both qualitative and quantitative methods used in the study. The data is all of the words, phrases, or sentences that include the use of mixed codes in English and Indonesian Language, which was collected from one episode of Bicara Cinta on the PUELLA ID Youtube Channel. The code-mixing theory from Hoffman (1991) was used to analyze the data, including the types of code-mixing and the factors that caused the code-mixing. The analysis has identified 93 data on the use of code-mixing by Yuki Kato, including three types of code-mixing which are intra-sentential with 80 data found (86,02%), intra-lexical with 10 data found (10, 75%), and involving a change of pronunciation with 3 data found (3,23%). Six out of seven factors were applied in the code-mixing by Yuki Kato. The code-mixing produced by Yuki Kato is caused by several factors, those are talking about particular topic with 46 data found (49,46%), being emphatic about something with 35 data found (37,63%), intention of clarifying the speech content for the interlocutor with 7 data found (7,53%), repetition used for clarification with 2 data found (2,15%), interjection with 2 data found (2,15%), and quoting somebody else with only 1 data found (1,08%). Analisis Campur Kode Bahasa Batak Pada Saat Pembelajaran di Kelas X SMA YAPIM Merek Tahun Ajaran 2023/2024

The research was carried out with the title "Analysis of Batak Language Code Mixing When Learning Indonesian in Class The use of code mixing is the Batak regional language. The aim of this research is to determine the main causes of the use of code mixing during learning. This research methodology is a qualitative descriptive method. Data was obtained from class X students of YAPIM Brand High School and the results of interviews from Indonesian language teachers. Data collection techniques were carried out by interviewing, recording and taking notes. The results of this research are forms of code mixing in teacher and student conversations in Indonesian language learning in class X SMA YAPIM Brand, namely: a. Use of Toba Batak language code mixing, b. There are 76 code-mixed data, the forms of code-mixing use are 13 code-mixes of word insertion, 17 phrase insertions, 46 clause insertions, word and sentence insertions. Factors causing code mixing are: a. Students' proficiency in speaking two languages, including the Toba Batak regional language and Indonesian, b. Social environment, c. Contextual situation. However, Indonesian language interference is not eliminated by the presence of the regional language, it's just that students sometimes focus more on using the regional language instead of being in context when speaking with fellow students.

TEACHER’S CODE-MIXING IN AN ENGLISH CLASSROOM AT A PRIVATE VOCATIONAL SCHOOL

This study aims to analyse the type of code-mixing that occurs by English teachers when teaching English lessons, and find out the reasons for the use of code-mixing. This research uses descriptive qualitative research. The object of this research is one English teacher in Private Vocational School in Bogor. The process of collecting the data, the researcher recorded the teacher's voice audio when teaching in class and also when conducting interviews. The data analysis technique used Muysken's theory. In this study, it was found that there were three types of code mix used by the teacher when teaching, namely the type of insertion, alternation, and lexical congruence. The use of insertion type is about 55%, then alternation 44%, and lexical congruent 1%, from 158 total utterances obtained. The results found in this study are that teachers more often use code-mixing insertion type when teaching English. Then three reasons for the use of code-mixing by the teacher, namely because of the background of a major school, for students' understanding of the material, and the existence of limited student understanding in English.

Code Mixing in Boy William’s Vlog “Kediaman Raja Film Indonesia”

The code mixing phenomenon is a common practice in multilingual societies where individuals use more than one language or code in their daily conversations. The use of code mixing is also widely used by artists or public figures on various platforms. This can affect the use of code mixing. This study is aimed to analyze the types, motives, and reasons of the use of code mixing in Boy William’s Vlog. The data were collected by using documentation method and note taking technique. The data were analyzed by using qualitative method. In this case, the analyzed data types were classified by the theory of code mixing types, then the motives and reasons of the code mixing were identified by using the theory from Hockett (1958) to identify motives and Hoffman (1991) to identify the reason of code mixing. The data were presented informally. The result showed that there were found all the types of code mixing, all motives and six reasons, almost every reason for code mixing appears in the Boy William’s vlog, except being emphatic about something. There are three types of code mixing found in the expression of Boy William. Intra-sentential code mixing is the most frequent type of code mixing. Prestige filling motive is the most frequent type of motive that occurred in the code mixing. Talking about particular topic is the most frequent reason of the code mixing.

Code-Mixing As a Communicative Strategy Among International Passengers and Employees in Hasanuddin International Airport Makassar

The use of English in service operations is very necessary in communicating with service users who not only come from Indonesia but also from abroad. Therefore, the use of English is very important in-service operations at the airport. This research aims to analyze code mixing as a communication strategy among passengers and employees at Hasanuddin International Airport. The design of this research was qualitative research. It is called collaborative qualitative because the research directly involves employees and international passengers as respondents. The research results show that there are three types of code mixing, namely alternation, congruence, and lexicalization. Respondents participated in interviews, which yielded information about the variables that influence the use of code mixing in textual communication regarding code mixing as a communication strategy between employees and international passengers. There are seven factors that cause code mixing, namely (1) lack of mastery, especially mastery of English, (2) intention to increase prestige, (3) wanting to show off one's skills, (4) searching for identity, (5) habits, (6) want to joke (make jokes) and (7) relaxed conversation situation (formality). It can be concluded that this research identifies three forms of code mixing, namely substitution, congruence and lexicalization and this is influenced by several factors in the occurrence of code mixing among employees and international passengers

Analysing the Use of Code Mixing among Indonesian Junior High School Teachers of English in Pangkep Sub District

This research aims to describe and analyze the teacher’s utterances about the code-mixing used and what factors influenced them to mix their languages. In answering these problems, researchers used a sociolinguistics approach. This research is classified as quantitative research; the data was collected by observation, documentation, and questionnaires, and analyzed using document analysis of the teacher's utterances. The researcher found, that the formulation related to type code-mixing, shows 240 code-mixed data by the teachers i.e.: insertion and alternation. The type of code-mixing most often appears on insertion was the insertion of a phrase (45.8%) followed by the insertion of the word (40.0%). Insertion of hybrid (8.3%) next, alternation (3.7%) and the last one was the insertion of repetition (2.0%). The factors that highly influence the teachers' code mixing used are bilingualism (83, 33%), vocabulary (81.25%), speaker partner (76, 04%), social community (72, 91%), situation (66,66%) and prestige (50%).

CODE MIXING USED BY ONE-PIECE ANIME LOVERS ON SOCIAL MEDIA COMMENTS

Code mixing is a common practice in communication both in formal or informal situations. The use of code mixing is not only limited to everyday oral conversations, nowadays, code mixing can also be found in posts of comments on social media. The study analyses the code mixing used by One Piece anime lovers on social media. This is a descriptive quantitative study gathered data from the comments uploaded by the anime lovers on social media namely YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok. The data gathered were analysed by using Muysken’s theory (2000) for the types of code-mixing and Hoffman’s theory (1991) for the reasons of code mixing. The results showed that in the One-Piece anime lovers’ community on social media, the most dominant type of code mixing used is insertion and the reasons for using code mixing are to talk about particular topic and creating familiar interactions in conversations only. Social factors that influence the use of code mixing include fan age demographics, trends, and language style. In addition, code mixing is also used to facilitate the understanding of a word context.

Campur Kode dalam Lirik Lagu-Lagu Bagus Wirata: Kajian Sosiolinguistik

In recent years, the practice of code mixing in public communication in Bali has increased. Code mixing events can occur anytime and anywhere. One form of code mixing that has attracted attention is code mixing in pop song lyrics, especially Balinese pop songs. This is a concern in itself regarding the character of Balinese Pop songs, which were initially aimed at preserving Balinese art and culture, especially in terms of language, but have become something that seems to be forced solely for the sake of market demands. The formulation of the problem in this research is: 1) What is the form of code mixing in the lyrics of songs sung by Bagus Wirata 2) What factors encourage code mixing in the lyrics of songs sung by Bagus Wirata. The research approach used is an empirical method because the use of Balinese in the lyrics of Bagus Wirata's songs already exists naturally. The object of research in this research is the songs sung by singer Bagus Wirata. The data collection methods used were document study, observation and interviews.The research results are; 1. The form of code mixing in the lyrics of songs sung by Bagus Wirata is: The use of code mixing in the form of words is most often used in the lyrics of songs sung by Bagus Wirata with a total usage percentage of 63%. Code mixing in the form of clauses ranks second with a usage percentage of 19%. The remainder is code mixing in the form of phrases amounting to 13%, code mixing in the form of basters 3% and code mixing in the form of repeated words 2%. 2. Factors that encourage code mixing in the lyrics of songs sung by Bagus Wirata are; 1) language dominance, 2) language attitudes, 3) psycholinguistic motivation, 4) lack of equivalent words in Balinese, 5) commercial target market. 3. The impact of using code mixing on the Balinese language, namely; 1) destruction of the Balinese language system, 2) extinction of the Balinese language.

NAVIGATING LINGUISTIC SEAS: CODE-MIXING PATTERNS AT INDONESIAN COAST GUARD (BAKAMLA RI)

This study examines code-mixing form, function, and patterns within the context of linguistic phenomena at Indonesia Coast Guard (BAKAMLA RI) in East Indonesia, Ambon. To conduct the research, mixed-methode approach was adopted and the data source was a collection of recordings of the students’ utterances in the classroom and workplace. The study found that there were three forms of code mixing used by the students which included words, phrases, and clauses. The data analysis revealed that there were 39 instances of code mixing in the recordings. These 39 instances comprised of 20 data words code mixing, 14 data phrase code mixing, 11 data lexical need code mixing, and 9 data as a function of comment. In addition. code-mixing patterns within the context of linguistic phenomena, specifically focusing on three predominant models: Model of Verb (MoV), Model of Noun (MoN), and Model of Adjective (MoA). The research reveals a total of 158 instances of code-mixing across these models. The results indicated that Model of Verb (MoV) exhibited the highest frequency, constituting 62.03% of the total code-mixing observed. In contrast, Model of Noun (MoN) represented 27.22% of the code-mixing instances, while Model of Adjective (MoA) accounted for 10.75% of the overall code-mixing phenomena. This study sheds light on the use of code mixing in the context of English language teaching and provides new insights into the reasons behind its occurrence in the workplace.

This research aims to describe the types of use of code switching and code mixing, the factors that cause code switching and codel mixing, andl the function of codel switching andl code mixingl in thel film Ali & Ratu Ratu Queens. This research uses descriptive qualitative methods. The object of this research is the dialogue that leads to code switching and code mixing in the film Ali & Ratu Ratu Queens, which consists of 49 data. Data collection was carried out using the listening method, using advanced techniques in the form of (1) note-taking techniques and (2) data transcription techniques. The results of the research show that (1) the type of code switching used in the film Ali & Ratu Ratu Queens consists of two forms, namely internal code switching and external code switching, (2) the causal factors that occur are, the place and time the speech is carried out, the mode of conversation, and topic of conversation, (3) the functions that occur, namely, explaining, asking, confirming, and reminding. The use of code mixing consists of two types, namely internal code mixing and external code mixing, the factors that cause code mixing in the film Ali & Ratul Ratu Queens are speaker factors, and linguistic factors, and finally the function of code mixing in the film Ali & Ratu Ratu Queens, namely accuracy of meaning or feeling, argumentative, persuasive, short and easy to pronounce, and polite and polite.

THE USE OF CODE-MIXING BY THE CASTER IN PUBG MOBILE TOURNAMENT “PMPL SEA FINALS SEASON 2”

This study aims to determine the types of code mixing and the factors that cause code mixing. The data in this study are the types of code mixing Inter Sentential Code Mixing and Inter Lexical Code Mixing. The source of the data in this study was the PUBG Mobile e-sport tournament video with the title "PMPL SEA FINALS SEASON 2" taken from the research location of the PUBG MOBILE INDONESIA Youtube channel. This research is descriptive qualitative. Data collection techniques in this study used observing (simak) and note-taking (catat) techniques. In addition, the data analysis technique in this study uses theory from Hoffman (1991) and Jendra (2007). The result of this study is that the use of code mixing by the caster found Inter Sentential Code Mixing in the form of phrases and clauses. Then, the type of Inter Lexical Code Mixing code mixing is found in the form of words. The factors found in this study: (1) the language factor, (2) the speech participant factor, and (3) the purpose of the conversation factor.

The Use of Code Mixing in the Japanese Viral Song Entitled “Shinunoga E-Wa”

Numerous languages are spoken in various countries. It is widely acknowledged that English holds the status of a worldwide language. English is frequently employed as a language of code mixing within the context of musical compositions. In the viral Japanese song titled "Shinunoga E-Wa" by Fujii Kaze, there is an amalgamation of Japanese and English linguistic elements. This study refers to the work of Lee (2004), who categorized the findings into six distinct categories of English code mixing. The present study employs a qualitative methodology known as content analysis. The data source utilized in this study originates from the song titled "Shinunoga E-Wa". The data was obtained through purposive sampling in order to select samples that possess specific criteria (Sugiyono, 2020). According to Lee (2004), the findings indicated the presence of two distinct forms of code mixing, specifically five variations related to aesthetic elements and an additional five variations associated with the expression of unresolved identity. The utilization of English code mixing demonstrates the efficacy of promoting Shinunoga E-Wa's music on social media platforms, extending its reach beyond the confines of Japan's mainstream audience.

Dialek Daerah pada Percakapan Bahasa Arab Santri di Pesantren: Studi Kasus Pada Pesantren Pendidikan Islam Darul Abrar Bone

This study aims to determine the absorption process of regional dialects in the Arabic conversation of class VIII students at KMI PPI Darul Abrar Bone. This type of research is descriptive qualitative with a sociological approach. The results showed that the absorption of regional dialects in the Arabic conversations of class VIII students at KMI PPI Darul Abrar occurred due to environmental factors that still lingered and influenced them, spontaneous factors the effect of the lack of Arabic vocabulary they mastered, and the use of code mixing between Arabic and regional dialects. they. This absorption has an impact on the inability of students to understand language differences well, and their low mastery of Arabic vocabulary. The expected solution is to get used to using good and correct language, using various learning techniques, and applying the audiolingual method to the learning process. The implication of this research is the presence of awareness among teachers that the process of learning Arabic has not been maximized so far, so it is hoped that the solutions offered can be realized optimally

Multilingualism & Translanguaging: A Review of Translanguaging Practices in the Linguistically Diverse Indonesian EFL Classrooms

This paper reviews the past decade of studies related to translanguaging practices on EFL learning context in Indonesia. This topic has crucially been discussed among scholars in educational settings due to the influence of multilingualism possessed by Indonesian EFL learners. The studies from 2010s-2020s are selected and critically reviewed by focusing on students‘ and teachers‘ perception of translanguaging practices used in EFL classrooms. The discussion covers meaningful insights from various education levels in Indonesia since the country is known as one of the most linguistically diverse communities. The analysis of the review shows how translanguaging contributes to helping the learning activities to be more comprehensive as well as develop students’ multilingual and linguistics competencies. Furthermore, it also lays out the use of code-mixing and code-switching are considered fundamental to balance the incorporation of three languages used while providing learning instructions and strategies. Finally, the pedagogical implication of translanguaging in a multilingual context is discussed. This paper hopes to encourage teachers to gain a deeper understanding of the language policies in the classroom and accommodate language development.

AN ANALYSIS OF CODE MIXING USED BY EFL STUDENTS IN THE CLASSROOM PRESENTATION

This descriptive qualitative research aims to have a descriptive account of the types of code mixing used by the EFL students in the classroom presentation for the English course provided. The researchers conducted this research at the English Education Faculty of Institut Parahikma Indonesia, Gowa (IPI Gowa) purposely taking 1 lecturer teaching the English course and 1 class of the fourth semester students consisting of 10 students having a classroom presentation as one of the learning activities designed. It employed a classroom observation and open interview to collect the data in which their results were classified based on Musyken’s theory (2000) and analyzed using the theory of Miles, Hubberman, and Saldana (2020) coming with three stages of the interactive model data analysis, namely data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing or verification. The result of data analysis showed that the code-mixing types utilized by the students when doing the presentation were three, that is (1) insertion (word) taking the most dominant type used with 27 extracts, (2) alternation (clause) taking more dominant type used with 15 extracts, and (3) congruent lexicalization (dialect) taking the least with 12 extracts in the classroom presentation. These findings simply means that the use of code mixing becomes the students’ communicative strategy channeling the presenters and the audiences’ ways of understanding the points of their discussion during the classroom presentation.

A Study of Students’ Attitudes Towards The Use of Code Mixing in English Classroom

This present study aimed to explore students’ attitudes towards code mixing in English classroom through questionnaires and semi-structured interviews. There were 30 students involved and 5 of the students were chosen to be the interviewees. The results from the two instruments showed that the teacher frequently used English with Indonesian in English classroom, but they had a positive attitude. In contrast, the majority of the students were not happy when their teacher used full English in the classroom. They believed that code mixing was a practical solution and strategy applied by the teacher to make them learn English more easily.

Arabic-English Mixing among English-Language Students at Al alBayt University: A Sociolinguistic Study

Code mixing is extensively investigated within bilingual and multilingual communities. Its actual use in various social contexts and factors influencing its frequency are examined in the current study. A sample of students majoring in English language and literature who were enrolled in one or more of the researcher’s courses during the Spring semester 2021/2022 were asked to voluntarily participate in a 34-item online questionnaire about their use of code mixing (N=200). A two gender (female, male) x five academic years (first, second, third, fourth, fifth and more) x seven cumulative grade average (Distinguished, Excellent, Very good, Good, Pass, deficient, Prefer not to answer), and 5 dwelling (AlMafraq, AlZarqa, Amman, Irbid, Other city) multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) found significant four motivating factors on the frequency of code mixing amongst the participants: academic, linguistic, social, and psychological.

Indonesian EFL Teachers’ Use of Code Mixing in Classroom Interactions

Code Mixing (CM) is generally a communication strategy that is often used by teachers in the process of teaching English as a Foreign Language (EFL). This study aims to describe the types and categories of CM used by teachers in the context of teaching EFL in Indonesia, as well as investigate the perspectives of teachers and students regarding the use of code mixing in classroom interactions. This research uses case studies with a qualitative approach to analyze data. Data collection was carried out through recorded interviews with three teachers and seven students as well as observing the teaching and learning process during six meetings at one of the senior high schools in Medan, North Sumatera. The results of the study show the teachers use three types of CM, namely Insertion, Alternation and Congruent Lexicalization. There are 177 mixed code data found. There are 188 data classified as insertion type, 49 data classified as alternation type and 10 data classified as congruent lexicalization type. Then from the results of the interviews, the teacher considered that the functions of CM in students were 1) Improving student’ comprehension, 2) Encouraging students' independence in learning new vocabulary. Furthermore, students agreed that code mixing was an effective and effective learning strategy in increasing their understanding of English. This happened because 71.5% of students used English most often with some Indonesian language CM and 67.2% said the use of CM can help understand topic discussions in the learning process.
