INVESTIGATION OF DISASTER LITERACY LEVELS OF POLITICAL SCIENCE AND PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION STUDENTS

Disaster literacy can be expressed as the level of receiving, reading, understanding and correctly using information that provides the basis for people to make correct decisions in disaster management processes. In this study, it was aimed to determine the disaster literacy levels of Political Science and Public Administration students. The population and sample of the study consisted of students enrolled in a university's Political Science and Public Administration Program. The data of the study was collected by survey technique between 05.12.2022-07.02.2023. The research was completed with the participation of 107 (72% of the universe) out of 149 participants registered in the relevant program. In the study, a significant a difference was found between the mitigation of harm scores of the participants and their class levels (p0.05). There is no significant difference between gender and mitigation, preparation, response and recovery scores (p>0.05). According to the findings, it was evaluated that increasing people's disaster literacy levels will significantly contribute to the development of social disaster resilience.

Reading Practices in Political Economy: The Case of Adam Smith

Abstract The main references of the social sciences and humanities are texts. Texts are the means by which social scientists communicate their ideas and the means through which we, as readers, access those same ideas. Consequently, reading can be regarded as one of the main tools in the social sciences and ultimately the cornerstone of academia. This minisymposium takes the idea of reading and reading practices as its central focus. More specifically, the minisymposium demonstrates a variety of ways in which the reading process is complex, varied, and subject to many influences. In addition to this shared consideration of reading practices, articles in this minisymposium are united in their discussions of Adam Smith. It is through the means of interrogating readings and receptions of Smith that each article brings to the fore a different aspect of the reading process. The four articles contained within the minisymposium were first presented in May 2020 at an Adam Smith workshop funded by Newcastle University's Political Philosophy Cluster, and they each represent a continuation of the contemporary revisionist discussions on Smith—put forward by the likes of Glory Liu, Warren Samuels, and Amartya Sen—that criticize and revise dominant interpretations of Smith's works. The articles offer a diverse range of thoughts on the complex and multifaceted nature of the reading process, on how we might interrogate our own reading practices and those of others, and, ultimately, why doing so is beneficial and worthwhile.

Adaptation of young people from foreign countries based on the study of spiritual and moral subjects

The analysis of the adaptation of the students' youth from foreign countries within Russian society and the educational environment is presented in the current research. The authors study the problem of adaptation based on the case of the Don State Technical university which is providing activities on increasing the number of foreign students. Logically this university's politics lead to the engagement of the students from many foreign countries and the gradual formation of the multicultural and multi-confessional community within the campus. Despite the engagement of a large number of the representatives of different cultures the university, namely, the Orthodox culture and theology department has established the number of innovative educational methods and educational techniques which contribute to the adaptation of the foreign youth into Russian society. These new methods are based on the establishment of spiritual and moral subjects which were integrated into the educational process. The results of the cycle of the research activities have confirmed that these methods can be effectively used for the adaptation of the foreign students within Russian society.

The demise of nursing education at a major research university

The Department of Nursing at the University of Southern California closed in June 2004 after a series of attempts to restructure nursing education programs to adhere to the vision and mission of the parent institution. From a review of the Department's history and strategic plan, it is clear that Nursing did not recognize the University's political and academic plan to strengthen undergraduate education evidenced by increased selectivity of students and showcasing research. This case study analyzes the Department's demise and the contribution of internal and external factors including isolation from the rest of the University by its physical location, the administrative structure within the academic health center, economic constraints, and a lack of continuing permanent leadership. Nursing leaders can learn from this experience that nursing faculty must be scholars and researchers at a comparable level to other disciplines and that the educational programs must be strategically aligned with the University's vision and mission.

Some Consequences of Crisis Which Limit the Viability of Organizations

This paper proposes that crisis can be denoted with a specific meaning applicable to organizational behavior. A tentative series of interrelated propositions suggests how a crisis in an organization's external environment can activate behavior within the organization which hinders its response to the crisis. The propositions are illustrated with material from a range of political and nonpolitical studies. Some attention is directed to possible means of making the eight principal variables operational.'
