An inclusive university environment in the Czech Republic based on the example of good practice at the University of Pardubice

The ability of a society to utilise the creative human potential of all its members, including those with disabilities, is an important indicator of the development of society and the economy and the level of education, quality and performance of the education system. Our professional article enriches the current issue of inclusive education and inclusive special pedagogy in the Czech Republic (CR) with a description of the qualities of an inclusive university environment. The aim of the paper is to introduce the reader to the inclusive university environment in the Czech Republic using the example of good practice at the University of Pardubice.The following methodological approaches were used in the preparation of this article: a) a content analysis of legislation, strategic documents currently in force in the Czech Republic and available professional sources; b) quantitative design in the preparation of statistical overviews = the number of students with specific needs (SN) at the University of Pardubice (UPa) in 2012–2020 and financing the increased costs of study for students with specific needs at UPa in 2012–2020.

Differences in the body image based on physical parameters among young women from the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

The increased prevalence of overweight and obesity in the Czech Republic and Slovakia has led to heightened emphasis on weight control, particularly among women. Our aim is to explore body image perceptions among women in both countries and compare their attitudes, focusing on the relationship between body image and body mass index (BMI), height, weight, body fat and the weight control. The cross-sectional study involved 358 female students from the University of Pardubice and Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra, with equal representation from the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Body parameters were assessed using anthropometric methods and the InBody 230 diagnostic device, while participants' perceptions of their bodies were evaluated using the Body Shape Questionnaire. The results confirmed that BMI did not significantly influence self-perception among Slovak students, while Czech participants with increasing obesity tended to perceive themselves more negatively. Significantly higher median values for BMI (p = 0.0509), weight (p = 0.0507), height (p = 0.05) and body image (p = 0.002) were observed in the Czech Republic compared with Slovakia. No significant difference was found in weight control and fat between participants from both countries. Although obesity was demonstrated in both nations, body satisfaction was different for participants from the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

Z-Numbers-Based MCDM Approach for Personnel Selection at Institutions of Higher Education for Transportation

Personnel evaluation and selection is an essential part of modern business. Appropriate candidate selection can significantly contribute to companies in terms of increased profit, good culture, reputation, reduced costs, etc. This paper addresses the personnel evaluation and selection problem at the University of Pardubice, Faculty of Transport Engineering (UPCE). Since this is a typical ranking alternative problem where multiple criteria affect the decision, the Z-numbers-based Alternative Ranking Order Method Accounting for the two-step Normalization (AROMAN) is applied. Four Ph.D. candidates are assessed, and the most appropriate is selected to be employed by the UPCE. The Z-numbers fuzzy AROMAN method ranks Ph.D. candidate number four as the most appropriate alternative. To investigate the stability and sensitivity of the Z-numbers fuzzy AROMAN method, the values of parameters β and λ used in the mathematical calculations of the method were changed. The results of sensitivity analysis revealed that the obtained solution is stable. To confirm the robustness of the proposed approach, a comparative analysis is performed. Simple Additive Weighting (SAW), Weighted Product Model (WPM), and Z-number fuzzy TOPSIS were applied. Besides, we applied the fuzzy inferior ratio method as well. The results confirm the high robustness of the proposed Z-numbers fuzzy AROMAN method.

Issues of risky behaviours in university students.

Risk behaviour is typical of adolescence and young adulthood, but the consequences can persist for the rest of life - in all domains - physical, psychological, and social. Challenging situations, stress, as well as feelings of a lack of stimulation in an individual's life are considered to be triggers for risky behaviours. Prevention therefore plays a crucial role. The aim of the study was to analyse the current situation in addictive and risky sexual behaviours in a group of university students. Between 2019 and 2022, students of universities in East Bohemia - University of Hradec Králové (UHK), Charles University (UK), University of Defence (UNOB), and University of Pardubice (UPCE) - were approached and asked to complete a questionnaire survey focused on addictive and risky sexual behaviours. Based on the search strategy, research hypotheses were constructed, which were subsequently developed into interview questions. The research hypotheses were tested using Pearson's test. The questionnaire return rate was 84%. After eliminating invalid responses, 157 participants were included in the survey - 64% female, 36% male, age range 19-32 years. In the area of addictive behaviours, the focus was on substance and non-substance addictions. In terms of addictive substances, a question addressed cigarette smoking, which was reported by 14.6% of the survey participants. This is 50% less than what we see in the general population of the same age (by general population we mean the group of people approached for the surveys conducted, chosen by stratified random sampling based on age). In contrast, significantly higher rates of university students reported the use of illicit substances - marijuana, sedatives/tranquilizers without a doctor's prescription, cocaine, or hallucinogens compared to the age-matched general population. In the area of risky sexual behaviours, a question was included about sexual intercourse with casual acquaintances. It was experienced by one in four respondents. In 83.3%, this behaviour was influenced by the use of an addictive substance. The survey pointed to the high rates of salutoprotective factors (e.g. interest in sports was reported by 87.9% of respondents). Perceived social support from friends (reported by 74.5% of respondents) or family (reported by 72.6% of respondents) is a preventive factor for risky behaviours. The aim of the survey was to determine the prevalence of high-risk addictive and sexual behaviours among university students and possible prevention measures. Salutoprotective factors during increased stress or awareness of social support seem to be of benefit. We assumed a protective effect of higher education, but this survey did not show it. On the contrary, the stress induced by university studies and the pressure on academic performance appeared to be a risk factor. The results of the survey provide insights into new approaches to the prevention to improve its effectiveness and point to major problems to be addressed in Czech university students.

Robust and high-throughput lipidomic quantitation of human blood samples using flow injection analysis with tandem mass spectrometry for clinical use

Direct infusion of lipid extracts into the ion source of a mass spectrometer is a well-established method for lipid analysis. In most cases, nanofluidic devices are used for sample introduction. However, flow injection analysis (FIA) based on sample infusion from a chromatographic pump can offer a simple alternative to shotgun-based approaches. Here, we describe important modification of a method based on FIA and tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS). We focus on minimizing contamination of the FIA/MS both to render the lipidomic platform more robust and to increase its capacity and applicability for long-sequence measurements required in clinical applications. Robust validation of the developed method confirms its suitability for lipid quantitation in human plasma analysis. Measurements of standard human plasma reference material (NIST SRM 1950) and a set of plasma samples collected from kidney cancer patients and from healthy volunteers yielded highly similar results between FIA-MS/MS and ultra-high-performance supercritical fluid chromatography (UHPSFC)/MS, thereby demonstrating that all modifications have practically no effect on the statistical output. Newly modified FIA-MS/MS allows for the quantitation of 141 lipid species in plasma (11 major lipid classes) within 5.7min. Finally, we tested the method in a clinical laboratory of the General University Hospital in Prague. In the clinical setting, the method capacity reached 257 samples/day. We also show similar performance of the classification models trained based on the results obtained in clinical settings and the analytical laboratory at the University of Pardubice. Together, these findings demonstrate the high potential of the modified FIA-MS/MS for application in clinical laboratories to measure plasma and serum lipid profiles.

Implementace konceptu regenerativního rozvoje do výuky ekonomicko-manažerských předmětů

The issue of sustainable development has resonated across society for several decades. Industrial practice is currently significantly affected not only by the transformation of the industry and the tough competitive environment, but also by climate change and the measures taken in this context - especially the adoption of the Green Deal agreement. In industrial enterprises, the demand for decarbonization, the management of ESG activities and the related interest in the environmental and social dimensions of entrepreneurship are increasingly being enforced. The topic of business sustainability is also evolving, and sustainable development is often seen as insufficient. The principles of the concept of regenerative development move the reach of sustainability to a higher level, and the goal is no longer simply to maintain the current state, but to move to a better state. This contribution summarizes the general outputs of the implementation of the concept and principles of regenerative development into the teaching of economics and management subjects at the Faculty of Chemical Technology at the University of Pardubice.

Liquid chromatography at the University of Pardubice: A tribute to Professor Pavel Jandera

Pavel Jandera was a world-leading analytical chemist who devoted his entire professional life to research in the field of high-performance liquid chromatography. During all his scientific career, he worked at the Department of Analytical Chemistry at the University of Pardubice, Czech Republic. His greatest contribution to the field of liquid chromatography was the introduction of a comprehensive theory of liquid chromatography with programmed elution conditions. He was also involved in the research of gradient elution techniques in preparative chromatography, modeling of retention and selectivity in various phase systems, preparation of organic monolithic microcolumns and, last but not least, in the development of theory and practical applications of two-dimensional liquid chromatography, mainly in the comprehensive form. In this review article, we have tried to capture the highlights of his scientific career and provide the readers with a detailed overview of Pavel Jandera's contribution to the evolution of separation sciences. The Influence of Educational Technologies and Students‘ Academic Disposition on Their Study Success in the First Year at University

The paper presents the results of the research on student success in the first year at Faculty of Transport Engineering, University of Pardubice, Czech Republic. The research focused on the issue of students and their academic disposition as well as on the educational technologies used within the framework of teaching mathematics in the first semester at the university. The research included both full-time and part-time students. During the semester, the students had the opportunity to attend lectures, seminars and one additional seminar. The available study aids were in the form of printed textbooks supplemented by compact discs, which included video recordings of the procedures used to solve the problems and exercises discussed. Additionally, the video recording of the current lecture was published using the university intranet after every lecture. The research aimed to find out which educational technologies are convenient for different groups of students and how they affect the student attendance at lectures and seminars. The research was conducted using a questionnaire. The obtained data were statistically evaluated. The research proved that full-time students use their notes from lectures and especially from seminars to study. Part-time students use the multimedia textbooks and the video recordings of lectures the most. The publication of the lecture video recordings has a slightly negative effect on the student attendance, but they are beneficial for the majority of students.

The «product» of promotion is an educational program. Promotion of products of educational activities could be built along the general line «internal quality assurance of education – reviews of internal stakeholders – external quality assurance of education – reviews of external stakeholders – a business card of an educational product». When applied to an educational program as an object of knowledge marketing, a business card is a set of innovative features that could be used as the basis for implementing a particular strategy. In the frame of the work for describing the process of promoting the educational program abstract-logical method, the method of analogies, and the method of induction-deduction were used. A bibliometric analysis was carried out based on an array of bibliographic data of articles from the Scopus database using the VOSviewer tool to assess the possibility of combining different marketing mix models. The results of the bibliometric analysis show that the marketing mix model applies to the promotion of knowledge (educational program) as a product of the DIKW model. At the same time, the question of choosing a marketing mix strategy or justifying the need to combine these strategies remains open. As part of the work, a link was made between generating the knowledge model and promoting an educational program as a product of the DIKW model. Bibliometric analysis showed that using a single marketing mix strategy currently does not lead to success in product promotion. A combination of different strategy indicators is needed. At the same time, it is essential to establish the degree of significance of each indicator in the overall rating and to screen out (if necessary) individual indicators. A multi-level expert assessment determines the degree of significance of each indicator. Based on the results of this assessment, a specific set of indicators for this educational program and the dominant strategy, if any, are formed. A combined approach for promoting an educational program is developed based on an analysis of individual indicators and a multi-stage expert assessment of internal and external stakeholders.

Special Educational Support for University Students in the Czech Republic

The education of school children and university students with special educational needs is enabled mainly due to the creation of an inclusive educational environment. In the Czech Republic, inclusive educational environment support is being carried out from an early age within the framework of social services. Within this scope, this analytical paper describes the inclusive environment of the university and the disability support services provided. At the same time, the article focuses mainly on the issues of the inclusive environment within university education and describes the situation at the University of Pardubice in the Czech Republic. Results of the situation analyses are showing that providing the students with special educational needs with access to university studies leads to an equality of their educational opportunities

The Demand for Public Administration Education in the Czech Republic

Public administration is overwhelmingly crucial in providing citizens with the best accessible, affordable, effective, and efficient services. Governments need qualified human resources for satisfactory employment processes. Therefore, higher education institutions play a crucial role in supplying the education in the field of public administration. Universities and various institutes from all over the world have numerous public administration education programmes. In this context, students as well as professionals have a wide range of opportunities to get an education in public administration so as to be employed in the public or relevant sectors. In parallel with globalisation and the development of information technologies, new professions have started to emerge and significant changes have been observed in people’s learning preferences. The Czech Republic is one of the significant Central European countries to offer an education in public administration. To this end, the study examines public administration education in the Czech Republic and looks more closely at public administration education at the University of Pardubice, which offers programmes in the area of public administration and the public sector. The analysis is performed based on a statistical evaluation of students’ interest over a span of 16 years. Finally, the demand for public administration education at the University of Pardubice is analysed in order to put forth the current state of public administration education by comparing it with other relevant faculties in the Czech Republic. The conclusion of the study is devoted to considerations on the possibilities of supporting education in the Czech Republic. More consistent supervision from the position of the state seems appropriate, but also support for a family policy aimed at reconciling professional and family life.

Control of Diesel-electric AC/DC Traction Drive of Motor Truck WŽB 10.1-M

The paper describes the control of traction drive and control systems properties of a special rail vehicle WŽB10.1-M used in the Prague metro (subway). Measured values of main quantities of the control system and experience from duty are included. Software for the traction drive control system was developed at the University of Pardubice.

Lateral force effects of three-axle locomotive bogie on track

This paper deals with guiding behaviour of a diesel-electric locomotive equipped with new three-axle bogies which were developed in co-operation of the company CZ LOKO and the Faculty of Transport Engineering of the University of Pardubice. At first, the design of the new bogie intended for the track gauge 1520 mm is shortly introduced. Then, the attention is paid to three different variants of secondary suspension design and their influence on lateral force effects of the locomotive on track in curves. The assessment is performed by means of the multi-body simulation tool “SJKV” and it takes into account GOST standards. Possibilities of application of a system of active elements for bogie steering are also evaluated.

Teaching and Practicing Model Predictive Control

How to explain Model Predictive Control (MPC) to students? How to practise it? The paper deals with chain of actions involving teaching, practicing and laboratory application of MPC at University of Pardubice in Czech Republic and at Anna University in India. Individual steps are presented and discussed with examples from educational experience - e.g. modelling and identification, derivation of MPC controller, simulations and laboratory applications. Every phase has a key and weak point as well. Desired results is that students understand better the theoretical concepts and they are able to apply predictive controllers at least for laboratory processes. Derivations and MATLAB scripts are available online.

The effect of spring pads in the secondary suspension of railway vehicles on bogie yaw resistance

This paper deals with properties of bogie yaw resistance of an electric locomotive with secondary suspension consisting of flexi-coil springs supplemented with tilting spring pads. Transversal stiffness of a sample of a spring/pad assembly was measured on a dynamic test stand of the University of Pardubice (Czech Republic) and the results were applied into a multi-body model of the locomotive created in the simulation tool ‘SJKV’. On the basis of the simulation results, a detailed analysis of the bogie yaw resistance was performed in order to explain the effect in dynamic behaviour of the locomotive when the moment against bogie rotation (and therefore the distribution of guiding forces on individual wheels, as well) is influenced with the vehicle speed in a certain curve. Results of this analysis show that the application of suspension elements with strongly directionally dependent transversal stiffness into the secondary suspension can just lead to a dependency of the bogie yaw resistance on cant deficiency, i.e. on the vehicle speed in curve. This fact has wide consequences on the vehicle dynamics (especially on the guiding behaviour of the vehicle in curves) and it also points out that the current method of evaluation of the bogie yaw resistance according to relevant standards, which is related with assessment of the quasistatic safety of a railway vehicle against derailment, is not objective enough.
