Basic Components of Web Services Architecture: A Survey

Service provided by one electronic device to the other electronic device or devices is generally called as a web service. It may be a block of code that can be remotely accessed and utilized. In the present IT industry web services are playing a vital role in application development by providing a facility of using the existing modules to make up an application without coding from the scratch. This improves the productivity and reduces the overall project development cost and time. This paper provides the basic information of the components that supports the usage of web service along with the web service architecture. The components that are required for the web service architecture such as SOAP: simple object access protocol: used for establishing connection between components, UDDI (Universal Description, Discovery, and Integration):a registry that stores all the web services and WSDL: web service description language.

Mobile agent and ontology approach for web service discovery using QoS

Web services are meaningful only if potential users may find and execute them. Universal Description Discovery and Integration (UDDI) help businesses, organisations, and other web services providers to discover and reach to the service(s) by providing the URI of the WSDL file. However, it does not offer a mechanism to choose a web service based on its quality. The standard also lacks sufficient semantic description in the content of web services, this lack makes it difficult to find and compose suitable web services during analysis, search, and matching processes. In addition, a central UDDI suffers from one centralised point problem and the high cost of maintenance. To get around these problems, the authors propose in this paper a novel framework based on mobile agent, metadata catalogue and user profile for web services discovery in order to reduce the search space and increase the number of relevant services.

Stage-by-stage technology for developing of integrated e-trading management system

In this work, we present the stage-by-stage technology for development of integrated e-trading management system which consists of four basic stages. As a first stage in accomplishing this goal, we set out to apply a methodology of functional modelling SADT (IDEF0) to develop a functional model for a large e-trade enterprise. At the second stage of this technology, we wanted to ascertain scheme of e-trading business processes conformity to modules of the developed functional model and establish their relationships with the organisational structural elements of the e-trade enterprise. At the third stage of technology, we have turned our attention to developing an architecture model for integrated e-trading management system. A service-oriented architecture (SOA) using enterprise service bus (ESB) concept is offered for architectural implementation. Typical IS that belong to the web-system are used as services. The web-services implement SOAP protocol based on Web Services Description Language (WSDL) and universal description, discovery and integration (UDDI) specifications. Finally, as a fourth stage of technology, we presented the method of software implementation for integrated e-trading management system.

The study describes an approach for heterogeneous web services cataloguing of geographically distributed computing nodes in the computational and analytical geological environment. The approach of creation of web services monitoring system is proposed. In this study the approach for web services catalogue organization based on SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol) protocol, with use of UDDI (Universal Description Discovery and Integration) registries is reviewed. The scheme for heterogeneous web services description with an ability of further creation of catalogue is proposed. The catalogue includes functions for searching and receiving of metainformation about every web service in it. The study also describes an approach for computational and analytical geological environment creation. A number of web services for heterogeneous data processing used in geological research is described. The approaches for organization of cataloguing and web services monitoring provide a higher level of reliability of computational and analytical geological environment. They provide an information about web service reliability within environment.

Exploration of Learning Service Discovery Algorithm based on Ontology

To study the learning service discovery algorithm based on ontology, the introduction of bipartite graph theory is focused on. Based on the undergraduate technology, a learning service discovery algorithm based on the basic bipartite graph theory (eLSDA-BG) is proposed. The algorithm mainly converts the problem of learning service match into the optimal complete match problem of bipartite graphs. Through the optimal complete match problem, the learning service match is realized and the learning service discovery is finally reached. The eLSDA-BG algorithm is compared with the greedy algorithm, the UDDI (Universal Description, Discovery, and Integration) algorithm, and OWL-S (Web Ontology Language for Service) algorithm. The comparison of results shows that the eLSDA-BG algorithm proposed can improve recall ratio, accuracy rate and efficiency of learning service discovery in situation of certain sample size.

Service identification using k-NN machine learning

Web service categorization is a daunting task since it requires semantic descriptions of those services which are not provided to the majority of those websites. The proposal of a Semantic based automated service discovery requires a request from the user that can be analyzed which then provides the user with a list of related webs services based on the request that instigated the search. The problem with these service categorizations listed in the Universal description Discovery and Integration (UDDI) is the way the information is related to one another. The relations follow a syntactic method. Semantic based service descriptions is necessary for accurate web categorization. With the help of machine learning we can also predict the user’s service request automatically based on previous searches and also select the best web service for a particular request that the user has made using a k-nearest neighbor algorithm. By doing this we can distinguish between the various types of user requests, provide services that are suitable for that particular request as well as suggest other services that might potentially suit the needs of the user.

Optimizing Libraries’ Content Findability Using Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP) With Multi-Tier Architecture

The aim of this paper is to describe a developed application of Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP) as a model for improving libraries’ digital content findability on the library web. The study applies XML text-based protocol tools in the collection of data about libraries’ visibility performance in the search results of the book. Model from the integrated Web Service Document Language (WSDL) and Universal Description, Discovery and Integration (UDDI) are applied to analyse SOAP as element within the system. The results showed that the developed application of SOAP with multi-tier architecture can help people simply access the website in the library server Gorontalo Province and support access to digital collections, subscription databases, and library catalogs in each library in Regency or City in Gorontalo Province.

A dynamic web service registry framework for mobile environments

Advancements in technology have transformed mobile devices from being mere communication widgets to versatile computing devices. Proliferation of these hand held devices has made them a common mean to access and process digital information. Most web based applications are today available in a form that can conveniently be accessed over mobile devices. However, web-services (applications meant for consumption by other applications rather than humans) are not as commonly provided/consumed over mobile devices. Facilitating this and in effect realizing a service-oriented system over mobile devices has the potential to further enhance the potential of mobile devices. One of the major challenges in this integration is the lack of an efficient service registry system that caters to issues associated with the dynamic and volatile mobile environments. Existing service registry technologies designed for traditional systems fall short of accommodating such issues. In this paper, we propose a novel approach to manage service registry systems provided ‘solely’ over mobile devices, and thus realising an SOA without the need for high-end computing systems. The approach manages a dynamic service registry system in the form of light weight and distributed registries. We assess the feasibility of our approach by engineering and deploying a working prototype of the proposed registry system over actual mobile devices. A comparative study of the proposed approach and the traditional UDDI (Universal Description, Discovery, and Integration) registry is also included. The evaluation of our framework has shown propitious results in terms of battery cost, scalability, hindrance with native applications.

PSSRC

The Universal Description, Discovery and Integration (UDDI) registry is widely used for organizing Web services in the Internet, but it cannot meet the requirement of organizing massive Web services in the cloud computing environment. In this paper, a Web service registration cloud based on structured P2P and semantics (PSSRC) is presented. On the one hand, PSSRC works on a structured P2P overlay which is organized by using Pastry in multiple registration nodes, where each registration node is composed of seven modules namely system configuration, schedule and distribution, P2P communication, access and control, UDDI, resources monitoring, and semantic process. On the other hand, a semantic ontology database named WordNet is used to process semantic queries in PSSRC. PSSRC inherits the advantage of UDDI in that the registration and discovery of Web services are transparent to Web services providers. Furthermore, it is shown by experiment that the capacity of PSSRC can be extended dynamically, and both semantic queries and large scalable accesses are well supported.

A Majority Vote Based Classifier Ensemble for Web Service Classification

Service oriented architecture is a glue that allows web applications to work in collaboration. It has become a driving force for the service-oriented computing (SOC) paradigm. In heterogeneous environments the SOC paradigm uses web services as the basic building block to support low costs as well as easy and rapid composition of distributed applications. A web service exposes its interfaces using the Web Service Description Language (WSDL). A central repository called universal description, discovery and integration (UDDI) is used by service providers to publish and register their web services. UDDI registries are used by web service consumers to locate the web services they require and metadata associated with them. Manually analyzing WSDL documents is the best approach, but also most expensive. Work has been done on employing various approaches to automate the classification of web services. However, previous research has focused on using a single technique for classification. This research paper focuses on the classification of web services using a majority vote based classifier ensemble technique. The ensemble model overcomes the limitations of conventional techniques by employing the ensemble of three heterogeneous classifiers: Naive Bayes, decision tree (J48), and Support Vector Machines. We applied tenfold cross-validation to test the efficiency of the model on a publicly available dataset consisting of 3738 real world web services categorized into 5 fields, which yielded an average accuracy of 92 %. The high accuracy is owed to two main factors, i.e., enhanced pre-processing with focused feature selection, and majority based ensemble classification.

Dynamic Discovery of Web Services using WSDL

Web service technology promises to provide a ynamic integration and interaction of heterogeneous systems, thereby to facilitate fast and efficient cooperation among the entities in cooperative environments. With the surge of Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) and Web Services, service discovery has become increasingly crucial. Web service discovery mechanism retrieves relevant web services from the internet to serve a wide range of users such as service consumers, service developers, service deployers, and service brokers. This paper demonstrates the model for discovery of web services using WSDL processing system and comparison between WSDL(Web Service Description Language) and UDDI(Universal Description Discovery and Integration) based discovery system. The solution leverages WSDL retrieval according to the requested term using horizontal and vertical search and processing WSDL to find suitable web services to satisfy the user request during run time.

INTELLIGENT SEARCH ENGINE-BASED UNIVERSAL DESCRIPTION, DISCOVERY AND INTEGRATION FOR WEB SERVICE DISCOVERY

Web Services standard has been broadly acknowledged by industries and academic researches along with the progress of web technology and e-business. With the intension of determining the web services through effiective manner with in the minimum time period in this stud y proposes an UDDI with intelligent serach engine. In order to publishing and discovering web services in itially, the web services are published in the UDDI registry subsequently the published web services ar e indexed. To improve the efficiency of discovery o f web services, the indexed web services are saved as index database. The search query is compared with the index database for discovering of web services and the discovered web services are given to the servic e customer. The way of accessing the web services is stored in a log file, which is then utilized to pro vide personalized web services to the user. The finding of web service is enhanced significantly by means o f an efficient exploring capability provided by the prop osed system and it is accomplished of providing the maximum appropriate web service. Semantic based Automated Service Discovery

A vast majority of web services exist without explicit associated semantic descriptions. As a result many services that are relevant to a specific user service request may not be considered during service discovery. In this paper, we address the issue of web service discovery given no explicit service description semantics that match a specific service request. Our approach to semantic based web service discovery involves semantic-based service categorization and semantic enhancement of the service request. We propose a solution for achieving functional level service categorization based on an ontology framework. Additionally, we utilize clustering for accurately classifying the web services based on service functionality. The semantic-based categorization is performed offline at the universal description discovery and integration (UDDI). The semantic enhancement of the service request achieves a better matching with relevant services. The service request enhancement involves expansion of additional terms (retrieved from ontology) that are deemed relevant for the requested functionality. An efficient matching of the enhanced service request with the retrieved service descriptions is achieved utilizing Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI). Our experimental results validate the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed approach.

The Semantics of Web Services: An Examination in GIScience Applications

Web service is a technological solution for software interoperability that supports the seamless integration of diverse applications. In the vision of web service architecture, web services are described by the Web Service Description Language (WSDL), discovered through Universal Description, Discovery and Integration (UDDI) and communicate by the Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP). Such a divination has never been fully accomplished yet. Although it was criticized that WSDL only has a syntactic definition of web services, but was not semantic, prior initiatives in semantic web services did not establish a correct methodology to resolve the problem. This paper examines the distinction and relationship between the syntactic and semantic definitions for web services that characterize different purposes in service computation. Further, this paper proposes that the semantics of web service are neutral and independent from the service interface definition, data types and platform. Such a conclusion can be a universal law in software engineering and service computing. Several use cases in the GIScience application are examined in this paper, while the formalization of geospatial services needs to be constructed by the GIScience community towards a comprehensive ontology of the conceptual definitions and relationships for geospatial computation. Advancements in semantic web services research will happen in domain science applications.

Information and knowledge management in online rich presence services

Nowadays many information technology services are moving towards online via ubiquitous networks, computing and information at unlimited speed anytime and anywhere with different kinds of technical platforms, especially in Web 2.0. In general, presence information expresses user willingness and ability to communicate with other users across a set of services for real-time communications. Web 2.0 uses the Web as a platform for embracing the interconnectivity and interactivity of Web-delivered content among different online users and communities, which have recently been assumed by the technology of services computing such as Web services. Web services are based on a set of XML standards such as Universal Description, Discovery and Integration (UDDI), Web Services Description Language (WSDL), Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP), Business Process Execution Language for Web Services (BPEL4WS), and etc. The rapid development of Web 2.0 for massive social network collaboration facilitates the “rich presence services” to expose information and knowledge gathered through online social networks which assists intelligent decision making and analysis. Rich presence is described as an enhanced form of presence awareness in which a service can observe other online service/user attributes, such as personal identifiable information, location, time, behavior, movement, type-of-software, type-of-device, and type-of-network. The use of Web 2.0 technologies may generate both user-generated content as well as contextual information about users, for example, their current location and availability. Rich presence also refers to the aggregation of this information that makes presence attributed to consenting services available for use by other services/users. This result generates a consolidation of virtual, physical, and online services into a single richpresence platform based on content-based publish/subscribe services for efficient filtering and dissemination of presence information. Online rich presence services divulge only the availability of other services. In this context, knowledge management comprises a range of strategies and practices used in an online rich presence service to create, manage, coordinate, distribute, and enable adoption of information. Such information comprises knowledge, either embedded in services or embedded in business processes, focuses on organizational quality of services (QoS) objectives such as performance, and competitiveness. Therefore, this special issue aims to examine the information and knowledge management model in this emerging context for the next generation applications. All the 8 papers in this issue will have deep research results to report the advance of online rich presence services such as information discovery, knowledge management, recommendation and collaborative filtering, services compositions, supply chain management, trust framework, grid and cloud computing. In the first paper “Feasilibility and A Case Study on Content Optimization Services on Cloud” (Wong 2013), Wong focuses on content optimization services that modify and reorganize content to reduce the size of content and enhance the performance of processing on the content. Wong presents the economics related to these services with practical considerations when these services are implemented on a cloud, which is typically perceived to be a more economical and scalable option compared to traditional dedicated servers. A Study on Knowledge Discovery of Relevant Web Services with Semantic and Syntactic approaches

Web mining is the application of data mining techniques to discover patterns from the Web. Web services defines set of standards like WSDL(Web Service Description Language), SOAP(Simple Object Access Protocol) and UDDI(Universal Description Discovery and Integration) to support service description, discovery and invocation in a uniform interchangeable format between heterogeneous applications. Due to huge number of Web services and short content of WSDL description, the identification of correct Web services becomes a time consuming process and retrieves a vast amount of irrelevant Web services. This emerges the need for the efficient Web service mining framework for Web service discovery. Discovery involves matching, assessment and selection. Various complex relationships may provide incompatibility in delivering and identifying efficient Web services. As a result the web service requester did not attain the exact useful services. A research has emerged to develop method to improve the accuracy of Web service discovery to match the best services. In the discovery of Web services there are two approaches are available namely Semantic based approach and Syntactic based approach. Semantic based approach gives high accuracy than Syntactic approach but it takes high processing time. Syntactic based approach has high flexibility. Thus, this paper presents a survey of semantic based and syntactic based approaches of Web service discovery system and it proposed a novel approach which has better accuracy and good flexibility than existing one. Finally, it compares the existing approaches in web service discovery.

UDDI Extensions for Temporally Customized Web Services

Abstract Web services are meaningful only if potential users may find and execute them. Universal Description Discovery and Integration (UDDI) help businesses, organizations, and other Web Services providers to discover and reach to the service(s) by providing the URI of the WSDL file. Changes in the Web Services desired over time results in new versions of the services. Further, the services need to be customized for different set of users. By using temporally customized Web Services it is possible to maintain the customizations of different versions of the artifacts such as interface/port-type/operation of the service under single URI. In this paper, we present UDDI extensions that allow users to find and execute desired version of the artifacts of temporally customized Web Services which are based on WSDL-TC.

Enhance discovery and retrieval of geospatial data using SOA and Semantic Web technologies

The ability to find and access geospatial data over the Internet through a single tool will be a great benefit for researchers who try to collect relevant data for a particular study. This requires a unified system to bring together diverse data sources so that they can be searched simultaneously in a single environment. Dealing with diversity of data sources and coping with heterogeneities that exist between them are the major challenges in this endeavor. This paper presents the efforts of combining Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) specifications, Universal Description, Discovery and Integration (UDDI) standards and ontologies to address these challenges. The primary goal is to enhance discovery of web services compliant with OGC specifications and promote access to geospatial information via the OGC services. To this end, this paper introduces an approach for incorporating ontology into UDDI registry and proposes an advertisement algorithm for representing service metadata contained in the OGC capabilities document via UDDI data structures, providing therefore a way to record semantic, descriptive and technical information of OGC services inside UDDI registry. Then the paper illustrates how this information could be used to enhance service discovery with the aid of semantic reasoning. Based on the proposed approaches and service-oriented architectures (SOA) strategies, a web-based prototype system has been developed in order to help users query, access and visualize geospatial data of different types in a unified interface. Several running examples are given to demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the prototype.
