ANALYSIS OF THE USE OF THE WORDWALL APPLICATION IN LEARNING ENGLISH USING CHROMEBOOK FOR VOCABULARY

This study aims to explore the subjective experiences, perceptions, and challenges faced by English teachers and students in implementing the WordWall application in their classroom environment, especially when used together with Chromebooks to learn vocabulary. The research method used is qualitative by collecting data through interviews, questionnaires and observation. The results of interviews with teachers showed that WordWall was assessed positively in increasing student engagement and vocabulary understanding, even though several technical challenges such as slow internet connections were encountered. Student questionnaires also yielded positive responses, with the majority of students feeling more engaged and their vocabulary understanding improved after using WordWall. Observation results indicate that WordWall in combination with Chromebooks is effective in creating an interactive learning environment that facilitates student engagement. In conclusion, using WordWall with Chromebooks can be an effective tool in enhancing English language learning in the classroom, by offering students an engaging and interactive learning experience.

Factors Contributing to English Fluency Paucities among Secondary Level Students: Perspective Dinajpur Education Board, Bangladesh

This study examines the factors contributing to English fluency paucity among secondary-level students in the Dinajpur Education Board, Bangladesh. Despite the prominence of English as a global language, students in this region face significant challenges in achieving fluency. The research identified key factors such as inadequate teaching methods, lack of exposure to English outside the classroom, limited access to English learning materials, socio-economic barriers, and insufficient emphasis on speaking and listening skills in the curriculum. Data was collected through surveys, interviews, and classroom observations, involving both students and teachers. The findings suggest that while students possess a basic understanding of English grammar and vocabulary, their ability to use the language in conversational settings remains limited. Furthermore, socio-cultural attitudes towards English and insufficient teacher training also play a role in hindering fluency development. The study recommends improvements in curriculum design, teacher professional development, and the promotion of interactive English language learning environments. Addressing these challenges could significantly enhance students’ fluency and better prepare them for academic and professional opportunities.

Pengaruh Media Pembelajaran (Bingo dan Textbook) dan Perbedaan Usia terhadap Pemahaman Kosakata Bahasa Inggris

This study was conducted to determine the effect of learning media (bingo and textbook) and age differences on understanding English vocabulary. It aims to determine the effectiveness of the use of learning media on understanding English vocabulary based on age differences. This study was structured using an experimental design because it was carried out directly and the results obtained directly from field data. The sample used in this study was taken from 32 students aged over 9 years and 32 students aged less than 9 years. The independent variables in this study were learning media (bingo and textbook) and age differences. While the dependent variable is the understanding of English vocabulary. Measurement of vocabulary comprehension was done using descriptive statistical methods. The software used for data analysis is SPSS. To determine the results in this study using Two Way Anova if there is an interaction between two independent variables on the dependent variable. The results of data analysis show that there are differences in understanding of English vocabulary between students who use bingo and textbook learning media with significant results. The Middle Value Line Fcount = 7.932 and FTable = 4.001 which implies that there are differences in the understanding of English vocabulary of students aged over nine years and less than nine years. The conclusion of this study is the use of learning media (bingo and textbook) and the difference in age have an influence on the understanding of English vocabulary in third grade students.

Implementing Vocabulary Journals through Digital Narrative Text for EFL Secondary Students in Learning General Vocabulary

Four fundamental language skills such as listening, speaking, reading, and writing are important skills for EFL secondary school students to develop it. Learning English requires fundamental knowledge of vocabulary since it influences these abilities greatly. However, vocabulary instruction is often overlooked in traditional language learning strategies. On the other hand, the use of digital narrative texts, such as videos, provides a modern approach to facilitating students in general vocabulary learning. This study explores the integration of vocabulary journals with digital narrative texts to enhance vocabulary acquisition among EFL secondary students specifically in junior high school students. This study used action research and involved 25 students from a junior high school in Karawang. Data collection methods included vocabulary journal logs, observations, interviews, and reflective journals. The findings revealed that vocabulary journals significantly assist students in understanding and retaining new vocabulary, enhancing overall language comprehension. Students expressed positive attitudes towards this method, highlighting its engaging and interactive learning strategy. This study concludes that combining vocabulary journals with digital narrative texts effectively supports vocabulary acquisition, making learning more enjoyable and impactful. This approach fosters deeper understanding and long-term retention of vocabulary, improving students' language skills and academic performance. The findings suggest that this innovative strategy could be beneficial in educational settings.

CHILDREN'S UNDERSTANDING OF ENGLISH VOCABULARY THROUGH VISUAL SEMIOTICS IN THE MUSIC VIDEO OPPOSITES WORD POWER BY PINKFONG YOUTUBE CHANNEL

The lack of English language skills and understanding in Indonesian primary school children is caused by many factors such as, limited teachers, unfamiliarity, unsupportive environment, and various other things. This is a challenge for individuals to learn English and teachers as teachers. In addition to the seriousness of children in learning English, the accuracy of the teacher in choosing the learning methods given to children must also be appropriate. In the current era of digitalization, learning methods through YouTube videos can have an impact on children's knowledge and understanding of English if implemented properly. In this case, learning English can be obtained by listening to videos that apply visual semiotics in it. The application of visual semiotics can be applied in teaching English to children from a video. The form of application can be like in the music video [Opposites Word Power | PINKFONG Songs for Children]. In this music video, explaining the opposite meanings of eight English vocabularies visualized in the form of icons and symbols. This research is descriptive research using a qualitative approach. The data collection conducted by the researchers used random sampling technique with ten public elementary school children aged 8, 9, and 10 years old as respondents. The data collection activities are carried out by asking questions related to knowledge and understanding of vocabulary in the music video to each children after the researchers show the YouTube music video [Opposites Word Power | PINKFONG Songs for Children]. The result of this study is to explain the extent of understanding of English vocabulary by children through visual semiotics displayed in the video. The results show that the icons and symbols displayed in the video mostly help the children understand the meaning of the English vocabulary displayed. This research also proves that visual semiotics is a sign whose meaning is universal so that it can be used as a learning method used by educators in teaching English in public elementary schools in Indonesia.

A Study on the Course Design of CCQs in Vocabulary Teaching in Higher Vocational English Teaching

This paper aims to explore the application of Concept Checking Questions (CCQs) in English vocabulary teaching in higher vocational colleges. The teaching strategy of CCQs sets the real context and questions for students, promotes students’ in-depth understanding and memory of vocabulary, and improves the efficiency and quality of vocabulary teaching. This study provides a new and effective strategy for English vocabulary teaching in higher vocational colleges through a detailed analysis of its research background, theoretical basis, advantages of teaching methods, specific course design and future development direction.

The Effectiveness of Pictionary Games to Improve English Vocabulary at SMK N 1 Kersana Kabupaten Brebes

Several speaking problems at SMKN 1 Kersana, Brebes Regency attracted researchers to conduct this research as an effort to help students in language learning. Researchers tried to see the effectiveness of playing the Pictionary Game on English speaking skills. This Pictionary game is a simple game and is applicable to all levels of students. The main function of this game is to develop creative thinking, improve grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation, develop students' courage in expressing ideas and create responsibility and cooperation towards their students. Because of these advantages, many researchers have used this game on language learning such as the effect of Pictionary Game on vocabulary mastery and researchers decided to see whether Pictionary Game is effective for students' speaking skills. This research was conducted using an experimental design. In collecting data, the researcher took the pre-test and post-test from class XI Accounting A and examined them to see whether the Pictionary game was effective or not. The results of the research found that the results of the initial test or pretest with an average score of 8.30, this shows that class XI accounting A students do not fully have much knowledge regarding vocabulary in English. From the results of the t test using the Paired sample test method, it can be seen that (2-tailed) with a significance value of 0.000, H_0 is rejected, and from a significance level of 0.000 < 0.05 it can also be concluded that H_1 is accepted. Because H_0 is rejected and H_1 is accepted, it can be concluded that there is an increase in the vocabulary understanding of class This can be seen from the difference in the average value, namely 12.39 or 34.4%. This means that the learning method using the pictonary game technique has proven to be effective in increasing the vocabulary understanding of class XI students at SMK Negeri 1 Kersana.

The researcher found problems in understanding vocabulary among fourth-grade students at Andalusia Islamic Primary School in Tapan. There are many educational methods and means that can be creative, including the game. There are no attractive educational methods in teaching vocabulary. Students think that the Arabic language is difficult, boring, and less interesting. Objectives of this scientific thesis: 1) Determine the effect of the method of imitation and memorization using the smart card on understanding Arabic vocabulary among students in the fourth semester of Andalusia Islamic Primary School, Taban. 2) To determine the extent of the effect of the method of imitation and memorization using a smart card on understanding vocabulary among students at Andalusia Taban Primary School. In this study, the researcher used multiple choice pre-test and post-test data collection. Asymp.Sig. (2-tailed) 000 < 0.05. From the data obtained, it can be concluded that the research hypothesis is acceptable, meaning that there is a significant impact on the effect of the method of imitation and memorization using the smart card on understanding Arabic vocabulary among the students of Andalusia Islamic Primary School, Tapan.

Disciplinary vocabulary and mastery of educational objectives in first-grade

BackgroundIn contrast with general academic words, disciplinary academic words have been less studied, in particular their frequency in educational materials and their contribution to educational outcomes in the early grades; therefore, there are no strong scholarly recommendations about teaching these words to young students. A better understanding of the importance of these words for young learners may complement our understanding of vocabulary's role in education and learning, as well as support the development of more effective interventions. AimsTo measure the contribution of children's knowledge of science and social studies disciplinary words to their mastery of educational objectives. SampleOne-hundred-and-seventy-four Chilean first-grade students in 26 schools. MethodsWe identified the general academic and disciplinary vocabulary present in 272 science and social studies materials. Using frequency and pedagogical criteria, we selected a set of science and social studies words, as well as general academic words, and assessed their knowledge in 174 Chilean first graders. Later we administered tests of the children's mastery of educational objectives in the two subjects. Using mixed-effects regression analyses, we examined the contribution of each type of word to mastery of educational goals. ResultsDisciplinary words were frequent in first-grade materials, but only science, not social studies words, had a significant contribution to children's mastery of the educational objectives after controlling for general vocabulary, general academic vocabulary, and working memory. ConclusionsDisciplinary words are frequent, and science words specifically are relevant for first-grade educational objectives. Vocabulary interventions should include both general academic and disciplinary words.

Research on the Current Situation of English Teaching from the Perspective of Multimodal Narrative

This paper reviews the current situation of research on multimodal narrative in English teaching. The study reveals that: 1) Multimodal narrative teaching, as a novel teaching concept, integrates the advantages of both multimodal teaching and narrative teaching; 2) Multimodal narrative teaching not only revitalizes traditionally monotonous teaching methods, but also aids students in the deep processing of learned vocabulary; 3) Multimodal narrative teaching can further enhance students’ understanding and application of English vocabulary, thereby improving their vocabulary learning and positively impacting their overall vocabulary proficiency.

Analysis of Errors in Students' Writing of Analytical Exposition Text at the Eleventh Grade of SMA Negeri 2 Kotabumi Academic Year 2023/2024

Writing is a crucial aspect of English language abilities as a foreign language. Writing is an activity that involves creating thoughts and then deciding how to communicate them and created a set of statements and paragraphs that others could read and understand. The aim of this research is to describe the types of errors in writing text and to describe the dominant errors in writing analytical exposition text in the XI Science 1 of SMA Negeri 2 Kotabumi. The researcher found some of the students still got experienced problems of writing texts. The main cause is a lack of understanding of grammar and limited English vocabulary among students. This research used a qualitative research method because the researcher did not use experiments or treatments in research. The subjects for this research is students of XI science 1 of SMA Negeri 2 Kotabumi and the subjects of the research were 29 students. The researcher analyzed using four types of errors: omission, addition, misformation, and misordering. Based on the results obtained, there were 159 errors, which consist of omission is 62, addition is 55, misformation is 31, and misordering is 11 for the most dominant error was omission.

The Effect of Students’ Vocabulary Mastery through Dictation Games

Game was an activity or form of entertainment that involved players in specific rules with the aim of creating a fun or challenging experience. Many students experienced difficulty in mastering English vocabulary, and for this reason, The purpose of this study was to use the dictation games method for assisting students in learning vocabulary in English. The research design employed was a quasi-experimental method, conducted at SMPN 1 Asembagus. The sample method employed was basic random sampling, and there were a total of 74 respondents divided into 37 respondents for the control group and 37 respondents for the experimental group. Subsequently, data processing and data analysis were conducted using a quantitative method. This research employed a questionnaire as the instrument for the pre- and post-tests. According to the study's findings, student's understanding of English vocabulary can be significantly impacted by the dictation games approach. The average score from the pre- and post-tests shows this. Pre-test mean score is 68.11; post-test mean score is 92.70. The result of the hypothesis test with the paired sample t-test is a t-score (+) 21.170 since the t-score > 1.729. The fact that the alternative hypothesis, or H1, is accepted and the null hypothesis, or H0, is rejected, it can be said that dictation game gives a positive effect on students’ vocabulary mastery.

The Effectiveness of Using Lontara Bugis Makassar Script in English Vocabulary Teaching

Vocabulary teaching, especially in early childhood, must be emphasized, because having sufficient vocabulary will make it easier for children to communicate. The Lontara script is a regional language that is now almost forgotten by the younger generation; therefore, this research tries to integrate the Lontara script in learning English vocabulary. The type of research used in this research is quantitative research with experimental methods. In this study, researchers used the One-Group Pre-Test-Post-Test Design. The data obtained can be interpreted to be in positive ranks, with an average value (mean ranks) equal to 24.50, and a total value (sum of ranks) equal to 1176.00. This means that there is an increase in post-test scores after treatment, which means that the integration of Lontara Bugis script in learning English vocabulary is effective in improving understanding of English vocabulary for fifth-grade students at MI Darul Abrar Balle Village, MIS Arrahman Labuaja, and MIS UKI Siputanre Cakkela, which are in Kahu District, Bone Regency, South Sulawesi Province.

Word guessing games make it easier for students to understand Arabic lessons and encourage them to understand Arabic vocabulary. Among these games, students can easily understand Arabic vocabulary. The research questions are as follows: (1) how is the application of word guessing games to ninth grade students at MTs Al-Washoya Kertorejo Ngoro Jombang? (2) how is the understanding of Arabic vocabulary in ninth grade students at MTs Al-Washoya Kertorejo Ngoro Jombang? (3) how does the word guessing game affect improving the understanding of Arabic cosowords in ninth grade students at MTs Al-Washoya Kertorejo Ngoro Jombang? This study uses a quantitative research method with an ex post de facto type, where researchers do not have direct control over independent variables because the phenomenon is difficult to manipulate. The data collection methods used by the researcher include questionnaires, interviews, and documentation. The results of the study show that the application of word guessing games has a positive effect on improving the understanding of Arabic cosowords. The significance value (sig-2 tailed) is 0.001, which means that the value of 0.005 is less than 0.001. It can therefore be concluded that the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected, and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. The R Square value (determination coefficient) is 0.444 indicating that the application of the word guessing game (x) to the Arabic cosoword comprehension variable (y) is 0.444, about 44.4% or rounded to 45%.

Enhancing Children's English Vocabulary Through Religious Singing Activities in the Era 4.0

The problem in this study is that children often have difficulty in understanding vocabulary, especially vocabulary in English while in Era 4.0 English is a language that is commonly used both in learning at school and in activities at home, so an appropriate technique is needed to improve children's English vocabulary skills with religious singing activities. The research method used is pre-experimental using one group pretest-posttest design. The subjects in this study were 25 students of PAUD Aisyiyah 1 where the research sampling technique used Nonprobability sampling. Each student in this study will be given a pretest to measure vocabulary skills. Furthermore, each student is given treatment by providing a religious singing method using English. After getting the treatment, each student will be tested again on their English vocabulary ability. The data obtained is then tested using Wilcoxon Non-Parametric Statistical testing to test the significance of providing religious singing activities to improve children's English vocabulary skills. Based on the calculation of the Wilcoxon Signed Rank test, the Sig value of post-test and pre-test data in the experimental class shows a significant result of 0.000 because 0.000 α (0.05) so it can be concluded that there is a significant effect of religious singing activities on increasing early childhood English vocabulary. This study concludes that religious singing activities are one of the learning techniques that can be applied to improve children's English vocabulary because children enjoy the process of religious singing activities which in addition to being useful for increasing children's English vocabulary can also improve moral abilities, self-confidence and, get closer to learning resources and children learn happily so that it makes it easier to understand lessons.

Using the Duolingo Application as a Vocabulary Learning Tool in Higher Education

The use of technology in education has grown rapidly in recent years. One of the increasingly popular language learning apps is Duolingo. This app provides an easy-to-use, interactive and free way to learn many languages, including foreign languages. This study aims to determine the use of the Duolingo application as a means of learning vocabulary in tertiary institutions. This study uses quantitative methods by collecting population and samples. The data obtained through the distribution of questionnaires. The questionnaire was created by using the Google form. The number of questions is 15 with the categories strongly agree, agree, disagree and strongly disagree. The study was conducted through surveys and interviews with a number of students who used Duolingo as a vocabulary learning tool. In addition, research also observes the effect of using this application by assessing students' learning progress after using Duolingo. The results of the study show that the Duolingo application makes a positive contribution to learning vocabulary in universities. Students say the app provides a fun learning experience and inspires them to keep practicing. The app's interactive features, such as play-based exercises, also help increase learning engagement and enhance student engagement. In addition, this research also shows that students' learning progress after using Duolingo increases significantly. Using this application provides flexible learning access and allows students to study anytime, anywhere according to their interests and schedule. In short, the use of the Duolingo application as a tool for learning vocabulary in tertiary institutions can be considered effective and useful. This application can be an interesting and effective alternative to improve students' understanding and fluency of vocabulary. However, it is important to continue researching and developing the use of this learning technology so that it can be optimized and adapted to the needs and characteristics of each educational institution

The Effectiveness of TikTok as an Instructional Media on Students’ English Vocabulary Mastery

Being the foundation block of a language, vocabulary mastery remains an interesting topic to be studied. Constant advancement in technology and shifts in pedagogy have warranted continuous updates in the understanding of vocabulary and vocabulary mastery. The present study aims to investigate the effect of TikTok on students’ English vocabulary mastery. Using a quasi-experimental research design the present study compared the vocabulary mastery of two groups of students grouped into experimental and control groups with 34 students in each group. The experimental group was taught using TikTok and the control group was taught using the conventional method. Multiple choice tests were used for pre-test and post-test. The resulting mean scores of both groups were compared and analyzed using T-test. Based on the statistical calculation with the significance level a = 0.05, it showed that t (66) = 3.749, p = <. The findings of the research indicated that there was a statistically significant difference in students’ English vocabulary mastery between students who were taught using TikTok and students who were taught using conventional method. It implies that TikTok is effective to be used as an instructional media to teach English vocabulary.

Study on the Utilization of Pictures in Vocabulary Instruction for International Chinese Language Education

Vocabulary is the fundamental component of discourse, and its teaching effectiveness will directly impact the construction of learners' Chinese language learning system. In order to enhance the effectiveness of vocabulary teaching, international Chinese teachers actively explore various teaching methods. Among them, pictures are considered an important and effective teaching tools that has been widely adopted and applied. Using pictures to assist in vocabulary teaching can enhance learners' understanding and retention of vocabulary. This paper delves into the advantages and potential issues of using pictures in vocabulary teaching. It also present specific opinions and suggestions, aiming at providing some references for international Chinese teachers in vocabulary teaching.

The Use of Comic Strip as Media to Increasing the Students' Vocabulary Mastery at SMKN 4 Pangkep

This study aims to determine the increase in students' vocabulary skills by using comics as a medium to improve students' vocabulary skills in terms of reading This study focuses on the use of comic strips as a medium to improve students' vocabulary. The type of research used is Pre-Experimental Research. This aims to determine the effectiveness of using comic strip media to improve vocabulary understanding for class XI students of SMKN 4 Pangkep for the 2022/2023 academic year. The sample of this study were students majoring in offices, amounting to 27 students of class XI offices at SMKN 4 Pangkep. This study used a purposive sampling technique using the pre-experimental method. Researchers obtained data by using pre-test and post-test.The average value of the pre-test was (56.29) and the post-test was (75.74). That is a better improvement than the average student's score on the post-test. Based on the results of the analysis, it was concluded that the use of comic media can improve the vocabulary understanding of class XI students of SMKN 4 Pangkep.
