Broadband Schiffman phase shifter using coupled suspended lines with tuning septums

A novel design of 90° Schiffman phase shifter using coupled suspended lines with tuning septums is presented for broadband operations.In this design, the 90° Schiffman phase shifter is realized with a high impedance ratio, which cannot be implemented using conventional coupled lines. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Approach to modelling of microstrip-microslot applicator

Microstrip-slot applicators are used for biomedical applications, but their modelling is not easy. We present an approach which considers this type of structure on a lossy medium as a succession of microstrip lines with tuning septums of different sizes. Using a classical spectral-domain approach (SDA) model, calculations of the resonant frequency have been performed and compared with experimental measurements for different simple structures of microstrip-slot applicators.

A new technique for the analysis of the dispersion characteristics of planar waveguides and its application to microstrips with tuning septums

An efficient method for calculating the dispersion characteristics of planar waveguide structures is presented, of which the principle is known as the ‘method of lines’ in mathematical literature. The wave equation is discretized in only one direction, and the resulting differential‐difference equation can be solved analytically. As an example of application the phase constant and the characteristic impedance of microstrips with tuning septums are calculated.

Frequency-dependent solution of suspended microstrip line with tuning septums

The frequency-dependent effective dielectric permittivity and equivalent characteristic impedances of the technically most relevant modes of the suspended microstrip line with tuning septums are derived using the conventional spectral domain approach. Normalised numerical results are presented in a very large frequency band.

A Generalized Spectral Domain Analysis for Coupled Suspended Microstriplines with Tuning Septums

An efficient computation method is developed for solving the microstrip-type structures in which a number of conducting strips are located on several interfaces of dielectric layers. The method is applied to the coupled suspended microstripline with tuning septums on the underside of the suspending dielectric layer. The numerical solutions obtained by the new method are compared with available data. The method is believed useful in the design of tightly coupled structures such as the 3-dB hybrid as well as of transitions between different transmission lines for microwave and millimeter-wave integrated circuit application.
