Bibliometric analysis of microphthalmos and anophthalmos over 20 years: from 2004 to 2023

AIM: To conduct a bibliometric analysis of studies on microphthalmos and anophthalmos (M/A), explore research hotspots, and provide information on future research interests in this field to benefit clinicians and researchers. METHODS: Totally 751 publications related to M/A from the year 2004 to 2023 were collected from the Web of Science Core Collection database. These publications consist of both original and review articles, that are composed in English. The contributions of different countries, institutions, journals, and authors were analyzed, and network analysis was conducted by using Microsoft Excel 2021, VOSviewer, and R Studio to visualize research hotspots. RESULTS: Among all publications included, the highest number of publications came from USA (218, 29.03%). China followed with 99 publications (13.18%), and England with 86 publications (11.45%). The publications from the USA had the highest frequency of citations, with 16 699 citations, and the highest H-index of 49. The American Journal of Medical Genetics Part A (43, 5.73%) published the largest number of papers, and the University of London had the most publications (41, 5.46%). The genetic and molecular mechanisms of M/A were still unclear and the clinical intervention for M/A had gained a lot of attention as an emerging area of interest. CONCLUSION: Data have been gathered on the yearly count of published materials and citations, as well as the rise in publication trends, the efficiency of regions or countries, authors, journals, and organizations, along with the high-cited publications in M/A. The recent trend of research has shifted from genetic mechanisms to different clinical phenotypes and corresponding clinical interventions, which can give direction to future research.

Research trends, hotspots and future directions of tertiary lymphoid structures in cancer: a comprehensive informatics analysis and visualization study.

Many studies have reported the presence of tertiary lymphoid structures (TLSs) in cancer, but the research progress of TLSs in cancer has not been systematically analyzed. Therefore, we analyzed the global scientific knowledge in the field using informatics methods. The results showed that TLSs in cancer have received increasing attention since the 21st century, with an annual publication growth rate of 27.86%. Unsupervised hierarchical clustering based on machine learning further categorized the research features into four clusters, with the cluster related to immunotherapy being considered an emerging cluster. TLSs and immunotherapy were identified as the top two hotspots with the highest occurrence frequency and total link strength. The Walktrap algorithm indicated that "TLSs, carcinoma, prognostic value" and "high endothelial venules, germinal-centers, node-like structures" are important to TLSs but remain underexplored, representing promising research directions. These findings suggest that cancer-related TLSs have brought new insights into antitumor immunity, and targeting TLSs has the potential to transform the landscape of antitumor immunotherapy.

Are Brothels Markets? Situating Consumer Research at the Nexus of the Essential, the Embarrassing and the Exception: A Viewpoint from Sociological Traditions

This essay critiques the trend in consumer research that deliberately excludes subjects considered exceptional. Drawing from multiple traditions in sociological literature, we analyse the interaction of factors that create persistent paradoxes in social imaginaries - paradoxes that have also impacted the academic community. While the majority of scholarly publications tend to take a reductionist view of consumer concerns, the vulnerabilities faced by queer groups and sex workers are largely ignored, with sex workers being pushed to the absolute margins. The relentless pursuit of tokenism, quantified by novel contributions or citations, has further marginalized invisible narratives of hope and resilience. The article advocates for a more inclusive approach in the development of new areas of consumer research, particularly in the domains of macro marketing, public policy, and transformational consumer research.

A Bibliometric Analysis of Articles on Pit and Fissure Sealants During 2012 - 2023

Background: Pit and fissure sealants have become an essential preventive approach for occlusal caries, mainly in the young population. In the last decade, tremendous research has been done in sealant materials, effectiveness, application procedures, and clinical results; therefore, the trends, collaboration networks, and influential contributions need to be summarized in a structured manner. To conduct a deep bibliometric analysis of the published articles on pit and fissure sealants between 2012 and 2023, to track research trends, key contributors, collaborative networks, and gaps in the literature.Methods: Articles were obtained from Scopus, Web of Science, and PubMed databases with a bibliometric analysis of articles published from 2012 to 2023. The metrics were calculated using the package Biblioshiny in R while VOSviewer was used in the analysis of authorship, citation, and thematic network.Results: A total of 1,215 articles with 4,059 authors was analyzed, averaging 4.56 authors per paper, attesting to the high collaboration level. The United States, Brazil, and India are known to lead the sealant research activities. Sealant research tends to indicate the extent to which the world is going in the preventive dentistry field. Trends indicated a maximum output in 2015 and 2019 followed by a decline in subsequent years, indicating an overall annual decline in the rate of publication of -2.16%. Thematic analysis found that the most common themes of research were sealant efficacy, material innovation, and application techniques.Conclusion: Analysis Dramatic progresses in pit and fissure sealant research are highlighted due to an increasing global network. However, areas include improved long-term clinical follow up and optimizing retention when these sealants are put on under different conditions. Gaps should be addressed on how to innovate materials, form, and techniques and strategies for sealants that aim for evidence-based preventive recommendations and guidelines in public health dental practice.

Active plasmonic nanodevices: From basic principles to emerging applications

AbstractTunable plasmonics has shown a wide range of applications in (bio)chemical sensing, displays, actuators, photonic chips, biomedicine, etc. in the last 2 decades. This review focuses on their recent development from the device perspective, which involves the understanding of fundamental principles and specific applications with desired functionality and compatibility. We classify these active plasmonic devices based on the nature of their structures and working environment as colloidal‐based, chip‐based, and colloidal chip‐based to further elaborate their performance and functions. We also highlight recent progress on tunable surface‐enhanced Raman spectroscopy, metasurfaces, and chiroptics to show the emerging applications of tunable plasmonic systems. We conclude this review with a general perception of the research trend in this field and challenges for their practical applications.

Characteristics of longitudinal maternal health studies in sub-Saharan Africa: A systematic mapping of literature between 2012 and 2022.

High maternal mortality rates in sub-Saharan Africa necessitate the need for aligned research focusing on prevalent causes and neglected conditions in the region. This mapping review aimed to describe the characteristics of longitudinal maternal health studies between 2012 and 2022 in sub-Saharan Africa and identify gaps in priority conditions or geographical locations. We identified references through a Medline (PubMed) search covering September 2012 to June 2022. We included prospective cohort or clinical trials that enrolled at least 1000 pregnant women, with a study site in sub-Saharan Africa, and published in English or French. Screening and data extraction were done in duplicate using EPPI-reviewer software. Descriptive analysis was used to summarize the results, identifying patterns in studies across time, country, study design, topics, and funders. We identified 213 eligible studies, which were covered in 534 publications. We identified studies in 33 of the 48 sub-Saharan African countries, with the majority in east and southern Africa. The predominant study topics were HIV (36.4%), nutrition (20%), and malaria (16.3%), with very few publications on hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (6.4%), ante/postpartum hemorrhage (3.7%), and sexually transmitted infections (3.2%). More studies were cohorts (115/213; 54%) than clinical trials. The National Institutes of Health (31.5%), Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (22.1%), and USAID (10.8%) were the largest research funders. Identifying research trends and mismatches between research topics and disease burden provides useful information for guiding future research prioritization. In particular, gaps exist for studies on hypertensive disorders of pregnancy and ante/postpartum hemorrhage, among the top causes of maternal mortality in sub-Saharan Africa.

Structure-property relationships of 3D woven fabric composites: A critical review through bibliometric and content analyses

3D fabric composites generally have significant thickness in a monolithic structure eliminating the need for multi-ply laminates. 3D fabric preforms have given significant boost to the composite industry by reducing one of the major failure modes, i.e., delamination. In the past few decades, an enormous amount of researches has been conducted in the domain of 3D woven fabric composites highlighting their structure-property relationships. There are 459 research articles related to 3D fabric composites in Scopus-indexed journals. The objective of this review is to summarise the extant literature, highlighting the current research trends, thematic research areas, structure-property relationships, and future research directions of 3D fabric composites. This review amalgamates bibliometric and content analyses to identify the dominant research themes within the 3D woven composite area. Content analysis of the research papers has revealed that the properties of 3D fabric composites depend on structural parameters such as weave design, binding step, binding depth, and stuffer-to-binder ratio. However, the results of these studies on the role of structural parameters are often divergent, implying that there is a need for more systematic research on the structure-property relationships of 3D fabric composites.

A Review of Advances in Heterostructured Catalysts for Li-S Batteries: Structural Design and Mechanism Analysis.

Lithium-sulfur (Li-S) batteries, acclaimed for their high energy density, cost-effectiveness, and environmental benefits, are widely considered as a leading candidate for the next-generation energy storage systems. However, their commercialization is impeded by critical challenges, such as the shuttle effect of lithium polysulfides and sluggish reaction kinetics. These issues can be effectively mitigated through the design of heterojunction catalysts. Despite the remarkable advancements in this field, a comprehensive elucidation of the underlying mechanisms and structure-performance relationships of heterojunction catalysts in sulfur electrocatalysis systems remains conspicuously absent. Here, it is expounded upon the mechanisms underlying heterostructure engineering in Li-S batteries and the latest advancements in heterostructure catalysts guided by these multifarious mechanisms are examined. Furthermore, it illuminates groundbreaking paradigms in heterostructure design, encompassing the realms of composition, structure, function, and application. Finally, the research trends and future development directions for the novel heterojunction materials are extensively deliberated. This study not only provides a comprehensive and profound understanding of heterostructure catalysts in Li-S batteries but also facilitates the exploration of new electrocatalyst systems.

Research perspectives of supply chain knowledge management: A bibliometrics study

The purpose of this article is to present a bibliometric analysis of scientific publications on knowledge management (KM) and supply chain (SC), provide an overview of research activities in this field and recognise its most substantial and fundamental aspects. In addition, this study aims to quantitatively analyse KM in SC in other words supply chain knowledge management (SCKM) research trends, forecasts and citations from 1999 to 2021 in Web of Science (WOS). A total of 499 documents related to SCKM research were collected from the following databases: SCI-EXPAND, SSCI, AHCI and ESCI. These documents were carefully reviewed and subjected to bibliometric data analysis techniques. We map the time trend, disciplinary distribution, high-frequency keywords and topics, major authors and influential publications to show emerging topics. Based on the findings of other researchers, many implications emerged that improve one’s understanding of the identity of SCKM as a distinct multi-discipline scientific field, and its publication has grown significantly since 2018. SC papers were published in engineering and Operations Research and Management Science journals, while the coverage of research topics related to KM and SCKM is broader and more interdisciplinary than those of SC papers. High-frequency keywords associated with SCKM research are listed. From the citation of 499 papers with both KM and SC as keywords, we find the most popular one.

Deep-learning-based multi-timescale load forecasting in buildings: opportunities and challenges from research to deployment

Electricity load forecasting for buildings and campuses is becoming increasingly important as the penetration of distributed energy resources (DERs) grows. Efficient operation and dispatch of DERs require reasonably accurate predictions of future energy consumption in order to conduct near-real-time optimized dispatch of on-site generation and storage assets. Electric utilities have traditionally performed load forecasting for load pockets spanning large geographic areas, and therefore, forecasting has not been a common practice by buildings and campus operators. Given the growing trends of research and prototyping in the grid-interactive efficient buildings domain, characteristics beyond simple algorithm forecast accuracy are important in determining the algorithm’s true utility for smart buildings. Other characteristics include the overall design of the deployed architecture and the operational efficiency of the forecasting system. In this work, we present a deep-learning-based load forecasting system that predicts the building load at 1-hour intervals for 18 hours in the future. We also discuss challenges associated with the real-time deployment of such systems as well as the research opportunities presented by a fully functional forecasting system that has been developed within the National Renewable Energy Laboratory’s Intelligent Campus program.

Socio-Emotional Well-Being and its Determinants in School Students: A Comprehensive Review

This systematic review aims to present an overview of existing research on the socio-emotional well-being of students and other associated factors. After a rigorous search through Shodhganga, SAGE Journals Online, Elsevier, Springer-Journals Archive, Research Gate, and ERIC-Education Resources Information Centre, articles were carried out from 2000 to 2024. The review resulted in the identification of a total of 26 articles based on pre-established inclusion criteria. The results indicate that the Socio-emotional well-being of school students is associated with and influenced by other significant factors like school climate, mental health, peer support, etc. The results prominently identify the directions of other research conducted in the same domain, indicate thematic research trends, and highlight gaps to be further investigated. A limited study in the Indian context with adolescents clearly shows an extensive need for research on primary school students. Context-specific research is needed to understand the socio-emotional well-being status of students in a diversified and multicultural country like India.

Emerging Nanochitosan for Sustainable Agriculture

Chemical-intensive agriculture challenges environmental sustainability and biodiversity and must be changed. Minimizing the use of agrochemicals based on renewable resources can reduce or eliminate ecosystems and biodiversity threats. Nanochitosan as a sustainable alternative offers promising solutions for sustainable agricultural practices that work at multiple spatial and temporal scales throughout the plant growth cycle. This review focuses on the potential of nanochitosan in sustainable agricultural production and provides insights into the mechanisms of action and application options of nanochitosan throughout the plant growth cycle. We emphasize the role of nanochitosan in increasing crop yields, mitigating plant diseases, and reducing agrochemical accumulation. The paper discusses the sources of nanochitosan and its plant growth promotion, antimicrobial properties, and delivery capacity. Furthermore, we outline the challenges and prospects of research trends of nanochitosan in sustainable agricultural production practices and highlight the potential of nanochitosan as a sustainable alternative to traditional agrochemicals.

Bibliometric analysis of global research trends and prospects on circulating tumor DNA in colorectal cancer

BackgroundColorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most commonly diagnosed advanced-stage malignancies worldwide and places a substantial burden on both the economic and social development of numerous countries.ObjectiveThis manuscript aims to synthesize the existing evidence and explore potential avenues for future scholarly research on ctDNA in CRC.MethodsBibliometric analyses were performed using the bibliometrix package in R, along with CiteSpace and VOSviewer software. The search was restricted to publications up to 31 March 2024, using the following terms: (“ctDNA” OR “circulating tumor DNA”) AND (“colorectal cancer” OR “colorectal tumor”) from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database.ResultsUltimately, we identified 1,310 documents published in 353 journals authored by 7,683 researchers from 2,417 institutions across 66 countries. The USA was the most productive country. The Journal of Clinical Oncology was the most prolific, publishing 111 articles with 3,396 citations. The top five keywords were “colorectal cancer,” “circulating tumor DNA,” “acquired resistance,” “cell-free DNA,” and “plasma.” The top five cluster labels for references were “advanced cancer,” “metastatic colorectal cancer,” “liquid biopsy,” “colorectal cancer,” and “human colorectal cancer xenograft.”ConclusionsThe collaborative networks are primarily composed of highly productive authors, prestigious institutions, and leading countries. Additionally, the advancement of detection technologies, the development of standardized protocols, the exploration of circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) dynamics in CRC, and the implementation of large-scale clinical trials for ctDNA-guided precision therapy in CRC are expected to become major research priorities in the future.

Wood–Cement Composites: A Sustainable Approach for Mitigating Environmental Impact in Construction

The construction industry’s environmental impact has become a growing concern, largely due to the energy-intensive production of conventional building materials. This paper explores the potential of wood–cement composites as a more sustainable alternative through a comprehensive literature review, including a bibliometric and scientometric analysis of research trends. Our analysis traces the evolution of wood–cement composites from early studies focused on mechanical properties, to recent investigations into their environmental benefits and practical applications. Key findings suggest that optimal performance can be achieved by treating wood with tetraethyl orthosilicate, incorporating additives like cellulose nanocrystals or wollastonite, and using wood from species such as Pinus. While partial cement replacement with wood waste and ash offers significant environmental advantages, precise formulations are needed to maintain structural integrity. This study also acknowledges certain methodological limitations, such as the reliance on keyword-based filtering, which may have excluded some relevant studies. Future research should address long-term durability, economic feasibility, and standardized testing methodologies to facilitate the adoption of wood–cement composites in the construction industry. These materials, particularly suitable for non-structural applications and insulation, hold promise as viable, eco-friendly building solutions capable of reducing the construction industry’s carbon footprint.

Global trends in tertiary lymphoid structures: a bibliometric analysis from 2014 to 2023

Aim and backgroundTertiary lymphoid structures (TLS) are increasingly recognized for their role in immunity. Despite growing interest, a systematic bibliometric analysis of TLS-related research has been lacking. To provide a comprehensive overview of current research trends and hotspots, we conducted a bibliometric analysis using data from the Web of Science Core Collection.MethodsWe retrieved TLS-related publications from the Science Citation Index Expanded within the Web of Science Core Collection from January 2014 to December 2023. Co-occurrence analysis with “VOSviewer” identified current status and research hotspots, while “CiteSpace” was used for co-citation analysis to assess knowledge evolution and bursts. Thematic evolution was explored using bibliometrics to identify emerging keyword trends. Additionally, we examined country/region, institutional, and author contributions and collaborations. Tables were created using Microsoft Word.ResultsA total of 785 publications were analyzed, showing a continuous growth trend from 2017 to 2023, indicating escalating interest in TLS among researchers. Leading countries in TLS research were China (231 publications), the United States (212 publications), and France (89 publications). The most productive institution and author were the “Institut national de la santé et de la recherche médicale” (70 publications) and Catherine Sautes-Fridman (21 publications), respectively. Key topics included TLS, B cells, and immunotherapy. Recent research has focused on mechanisms linking TLS with cancers, such as immunotherapy, tumor microenvironment, tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes, prognosis, and immune checkpoint inhibitors, highlighting an expanding area of study. Additionally, TLS’ potential as a biomarker for predicting immunotherapy efficacy across different cancer types remains a burgeoning research direction.ConclusionsThis study provides a comprehensive analysis of global TLS-related publications, revealing key literature metrics and identifying influential articles and emerging research concerns. These findings contribute valuable insights into the role of TLS in immunotherapy and suggest future directions for this dynamic field.

Research for all: building a diverse researcher community for the All of Us Research Program.

The NIH All of Us Research Program (All of Us) is engaging a diverse community of more than 10 000 registered researchers using a robust engagement ecosystem model. We describe strategies used to build an ecosystem that attracts and supports a diverse and inclusive researcher community to use the All of Us dataset and provide metrics on All of Us researcher usage growth. Researcher audiences and diversity categories were defined to guide a strategy. A researcher engagement strategy was codeveloped with program partners to support a researcher engagement ecosystem. An adapted ecological model guided the ecosystem to address multiple levels of influence to support All of Us data use. Statistics from the All of Us Researcher Workbench demographic survey describe trends in researchers' and institutional use of the Workbench and publication numbers. From 2022 to 2024, some 13 partner organizations and their subawardees conducted outreach, built capacity, or supported researchers and institutions in using the data. Trends indicate that Workbench registrations and use have increased over time, including among researchers underrepresented in the biomedical workforce. Data Use and Registration Agreements from minority-serving institutions also increased. All of Us built a diverse, inclusive, and growing research community via intentional engagement with researchers and via partnerships to address systemic data access issues. Future programs will provide additional support to researchers and institutions to ameliorate All of Us data use challenges. The approach described helps address structural inequities in the biomedical research field to advance health equity.

Microalgae: a multifaceted catalyst for sustainable solutions in renewable energy, food security, and environmental management.

This review comprehensively examines the various applications of microalgae, focusing on their significant potential in producing biodiesel and hydrogen, serving as sustainable food sources, and their efficacy in treating both municipal and food-related wastewater. While previous studies have mainly focused on specific applications of microalgae, such as biofuel production or wastewater treatment, this review covers these applications comprehensively. It examines the potential for microalgae to be applied in various industrial sectors such as energy, food security, and environmental management. By bridging these different application areas, this review differs from previous studies in providing an integrated and multifaceted view of the industrial applications of microalgae. Since it is essential to increase the productivity of the process to utilize microalgae for various industrial applications, research trends in different microalgae cultivation processes, including the culture system (e.g., open ponds, closed ponds) or environmental conditions (e.g., pH, temperature, light intensity) to improve the productivity of biomass and valuable substances was firstly analyzed. In addition, microalgae cultivation technologies that can maximize the biomass and valuable substances productivity while limiting the potential for contamination that can occur when utilizing these systems have been described to maximize CO2 reduction. In conclusion, this review has provided a detailed analysis of current research findings and technological innovations, highlighting the important role of microalgae in addressing global challenges related to energy, food supply, and waste management. It has also provided valuable insights into future research directions and potential commercial applications in several bio-related industries, and illustrated how important continued exploration and development in this area is to realize the full potential of microalgae.

Unveiling Trends, Themes and Collaborative Networks of Research on Sustainable Development Goals in India: A Bibliometric Analysis

The goal of global sustainability has acquired substantial attention as a result of the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which serves as a comprehensive framework for addressing major societal and environmental concerns. This study applies bibliometric analysis to assess the landscape of research articles on the SDGs. The study aims to uncover significant trends, thematic areas, influential authors, and collaborative networks within the discipline through a comprehensive examination of an extensive body of scholarly literature. The analysis entailed gathering data from prominent academic database Scopus, spanning a specific time frame. Utilizing bibliometric technique, the study assesses patterns in publication, citation, and collaboration to provide a comprehensive understanding of the research landscape. The analysis dives into the frequency of SDG-related research outputs, identifies theme clusters and goal’s interconnections, and identifies significant works affecting the conversation. The results of this bibliometric investigation reveal evolving trends in SDGs research, identify emergent and established focal points, and shed light on the changing environment of research collaboration. The analysis focused on the progress made in tackling the SDGs across several academic disciplines, while also revealing gaps and potential for future research. The findings of this bibliometric analysis have significance for policymakers, researchers, and practitioners working to advance sustainable development efforts and strengthen the collective knowledge base in support of the SDGs.

PANoptosis: A new era for anti-cancer strategies.

Cancer cells possess an extraordinary ability to dodge cell death through various pathways, granting them a form of immortality-a key obstacle in oncotherapy. Thus, it's vital to unravel the intricate mechanisms behind newly discovered types of cell death that drive tumor suppression, going beyond apoptosis alone. The emergence of PANoptosis, a form of cell death intertwining necroptosis, pyroptosis, and apoptosis, offers a fresh perspective, integrating these pathways into one cohesive process. When cells detect damage signals, they assemble PANoptosome complexes that disrupt their balance, trigger immune responses, and lead to their eventual collapse. PANoptosis has been associated with multiple cellular pathways, including ferroptosis. Mitochondrial dysfunction also plays a critical role in sparking and advancing PANoptosis. In this review, we map out the molecular machinery and regulatory web controlling PANoptosis. We explore cutting-edge research and future trends in PANoptosis-centered tumor therapies, spotlighting promising innovations that could amplify cancer treatment effectiveness through harnessing this multifaceted cell death pathway. The development of nanomedicines and nanomaterials provides solutions to the therapeutic challenges of clinical drugs. Developing novel tumor nano-PANoptosis inducers by leveraging the advantages of nanomedicine is of research value. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) treatment is characterized by multiple targets, and it has distinct advantages in triggering PANoptosis through multiple pathways. Additionally, photodynamic Therapy (PDT) may offer new insights into promoting PANoptosis in tumor cells by increasing oxidative stress and reactive oxygen species levels. These will establish a solid theoretical groundwork for the development of integrated treatment methodologies.
