Comparison of clinical efficacy between I phase and II phase intraocular lens implantation for the treatment of traumatic cataract

Objective To compare the clinical efficacy between Ⅰ and Ⅱ phase IOL implantation for the treatment of traumatic cataract. Methods Fifty patients of monocular traumatic cataract from Jan. 2016 to Jan. 2018 in Zhejiang Armed Police Corps Hospital were selected.All cases were randomly divided into two groups.There were Ⅰ phase IOL implantation group of 28 cases and Ⅱ phase IOL implantation group of 22 cases.The efficacy of the two groups was compared. Results One month after operation, the visual acuity of the two groups were significantly better than that before operation (P 0.05). One month after operation, the incidence of corneal edema, uveitis, posterior synechia and secondary glaucoma in II stage group were lower than that in I stage group (P<0.05). One year after operation, the anterior chamber depth and scores of tear film rupture time in Ⅱ phase group were higher than those in Ⅰ phase group (P<0.05), and the intraocular pressure and scores of corneal fluorescence staining were lower than those in Ⅰ phase group (P<0.05). Conclusion IOL implantation, the complication rate of the Ⅱ phase of traumatic cataract for the treatment is lower and the long-term effect is better. Supracapsular implantation with optic capture of posterior chamber intraocular lens in Chinese children with aphakic after traumatic cataract

Background: To assess the safety and efficacy of supracapsular implantation with optic capture of the posterior chamber intraocular lens in Chinese children with aphakic after traumatic cataract. Methods: It was a retrospective case series study. Fifteen cases (15 eyes) Chinese children received supracapsular implantation with optic capture of the posterior chamber intraocular lens. Pre- and post-operative visual acuities were recorded. Intra- and post-operative complications were observed. The follow-up period ranged from 7 to 43 (28.7±7.2) months. Results: Implantation of optic capture of the posterior chamber intraocular lens was successfully performed in 15 eyes. The best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) ranged from 0.3 to 1.0 (0.61±0.19). No optic axis opaque was found in 15 eyes with optic capture. The major complications of optic capture were iris posterior synechia and intraocular lens (IOL) precipitates. Intraocular dislocation was found in one case three weeks after the operation. Conclusions: Supracapsular implantation with optic capture of the posterior chamber intraocular lens is safe and effective for the treatment of traumatic cataract in Chinese children.

Efficacy of surgical treatment of traumatic cataract with simultaneous intraocular lens implantation in children

Background: eye injury is often accompanied by lens damage. Aim: To evaluate the efficacy of surgical treatment of traumatic cataract with simultaneous IOL implantation in children. Material and methods: The results of surgical treatment of traumatic cataract with simultaneous IOL implantation in 62 children were analyzed: in 48 boys (77.4%) and 14 girls (22.6%) with a mean age 8.1 years. Results: visual acuity after surgery gradually increased from 0.09 to 0.22 by the end of the first month, 0.43 in 6 months and 0.47 in one year of follow-up. In 85.5% of the operated children visual acuity in the late post-op period was accounted 0.3–1.0, and in 82.2% of cases binocular vision was recovered. In the early postoperative period following complications were observed: exudative iridocyclitis — 16.1%; deposits of fibrin in the pupil — 8%; pigment deposits on surface of the IOL — 19%; secondary cataract — 12%; IOL or its haptics dislocation — 3% cases. Conclusions: Early IOL implantation during traumatic cataract surgery in children is suitable. Use of viscoelastics allows minimizing the severity of postoperative inflammation and reducing a risk of complications. Intraocular injection of Gemasa during surgery is effective to resolve hyphema, intraocular hemorrhages and fibrinoid exudate.
