Head lice remain a worldwide problem. Although physical methods of removal, desiccation and asphyxiation demonstrate some efficacy, chemical pediculicides remain in widespread use. Issues of resistance and toxicity continue to influence the choice of treatment. This review summarizes the current and future treatment of head louse infestation.
