 IN THE CONTEXT OF URBAN TRANSPORTATION

A brief overview of information and transport systems implemented in the post-Soviet space is given. The concept
 of an information and transport system for urban passenger transportation based on unmanned electric vehicles is
 proposed, which implements a new technology for organizing the transportation process based on the use of intelligent
 control algorithms, transport with separable parts and high-speed transportation. The proposed methods of organizing
 transportation are aimed at ensuring the highest quality and timely service for system passengers with the most efficient
 use of rolling stock.

Practical use of geographic information systems in railway transport

The article considers the goals and objectives of geographic information systems (GIS). In today’s world, GIS is used in various fi elds such as geology, cartography, ecology, urban planning and transportation. GIS allows you to manage and analyze geospatial data, create maps and modeling environments. The article describes specific tasks that GIS solves, such as analysis and prediction of changes in geospace, process optimization, resource management and monitoring of changes in the environment. It also discusses new GIS technologies such as cloud computing and mobile applications that make GIS more accessible and user-friendly. The article notes that GIS are a powerful tool for making important decisions in various fi elds of science and industry.

Data synthesis improves detection of radiation sources in urban environments

Radiation detectors in and around airports and other ports of entry play a crucial role in preventing nuclear terrorism. While these systems aim to detect and intercept nuclear materials before they enter a country, they are not foolproof. To address this, distributed sensors have been proposed to detect nuclear materials if they enter urban areas. Past work on small detector systems has shown that data fusion can improve detection. Here, we show how this could be done for a large detector network using Pearson's Method. We evaluate how a sensor network would perform in New York City using a combination of radiation transport and geographic information systems. We use OpenStreetMap data to construct a grid over the streets and analyze vehicle paths using pickup and drop off data from the New York State Department of Transportation. The results show that data synthesis in a large network (40 k detectors) not only improves the time to the first detection but reduces the number of missed sources by up to 99 %.

The massive amount of vehicle plate data generated by intelligent transportation systems is widely used in the field of urban transportation information system construction and has a high scientific research and application value. The adoption of big data platforms to properly preserve, process, and exploit these valuable data resources has become a hot research area in recent years. To address the problems of implementing complex multi-conditional comprehensive query functions and flexible data applications in the key-value database storage environment of a big data platform, this paper proposes a data access model based on the jump hash consistency algorithm. Algorithms such as data slice storage and multi-threaded sliding window parallel reading are used to realize evenly distributed storage and fast reading of massive time-series data on clustered data nodes. A comparative analysis of data distribution uniformity and retrieval efficiency shows that the model can effectively avoid generating the cluster hotspot problem, support comprehensive analysis queries with various complex conditions, and maintain high query efficiency by precisely positioning the data storage range and utilizing parallel scan reading.

Development of web GIS based accident information system for safe and sustainable transport

For sustainable transportation and to minimize the life loss, the vehicular accidents should be minimized. This can be achieved by good traffic planning, analysis of accidents and the dissemination of the information to the responsible persons. Due to the development of web GIS, dissemination of spatial information, extracted by map processing tools, have become easy to all levels of society. Web GIS acts as a good interface in between user and GIS, especially when the end user is new in the field of GIS. In the present study, web GIS technology is used to develop an Accident Information System (AIS) for an urban agglomerate and proposed smart city of Dehradun. The traffic accident data was analyzed by making simple queries by considering single parameter like police station wise, year time, hours of the day wise, death and injuries wise. Complex queries were formed by including multiple parameters at the same time. To combine web technology and GIS, an interface was prepared with the help of which query formations are easy and quick. The results obtained are summarized in the form of tables, figures and graphs.

This study discusses a web-based waste management transportation information system that adopts effective waste management concepts and strategies with the principle of reduce, reuse, recycle (3R) as a priority in waste management. The purpose of this research is to enhance public participation in waste management by providing relevant information, services, and resources through a website. The main features of this system include the management of community data, waste data, personnel data, and transaction data. Black box testing was conducted to ensure that the system's functionality complies with the specified requirements. The results of the testing demonstrate that the system operates effectively and is ready for comprehensive utilization. By adopting information technology in waste management, this system has the potential to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and environmental awareness, thus contributing to addressing waste management challenges sustainably.

Comparative Analysis of Transport and Storage Information Systems of the European Union and Serbia Using Fuzzy LMAW and MARCOS Methods

Information and communication technology is one of the critical factors for the business success of modern transport and storage. Therefore, it is important to research the transport and storage information system from different aspects. In this paper, starting from that, a comparative analysis of the selection and ranking of the information system of transport and storage in the European Union and Serbia is carried out based on the FLMAW - MARCOS method. The obtained empirical results show that the top five countries according to the information system of transport and storage include: Malta, the Netherlands, Lithuania, Spain, and Slovenia. Germany ranked thirteenth, France sixteenth, and Italy eighteenth. Bulgaria (in twenty-fifth place) and Romania (in twenty-sixth place) are in an unenviable position. In the last (twenty-eighth) place is Belgium. Serbia is in twenty-second place and is in a worse position compared to the countries in the region (Slovenia - fifth place and Croatia - fifteenth place). In order to improve the information system in the future, a greater application of information and communication technology in transport and storage is necessary, especially in countries ranked at a lower level. The effects of this are to improve the overall transport and storage performance.

Enabling digital twins in the maritime sector through the lens of AI and industry 4.0

Sustainability and environmental compliance in ship operations is a prominent research topic as the waterborne sector is obliged to adopt ”green” mitigation strategies towards a low emissions operational blueprint. Fuel-Oil-Consumption (FOC) estimation, constitutes one of the key components in maritime transport information systems for efficiency and environmental compliance. This paper deals with FOC estimation in a more novel way than methods proposed in literature, by utilizing a reduced-sized feature set, which allows predicting vessel’s Main-Engine rotational speed (RPM). Furthermore, this work aims to place the deployment of such models in the broader context of a cutting-edge information system, to improve efficiency and regulatory adherence. Specifically, we integrate B-Splines in the context of two Deep Learning architectures and compare their performance against state-of-the-art regression techniques. Finally, we estimate FOC by combining velocity measurements and the predicted RPM with vessel-specific characteristics and illustrate the performance of our estimators against actual FOC data.

Development of a method of analysis of energy and information characteristics of wireless networks of critical application under conditions of limitations on the signal/(interference plus noise) ratio

The object of the research, the results of which are presented in the article, is the process of analyzing the energy and information characteristics of wireless networks of critical application. The presented article examines the problems of information and telecommunication systems of air transport as hard real-time systems. Thanks to the development of methods for analyzing the bandwidth of heterogeneous networks that function under the conditions of external interference, caused, among other things, by the random nature of multiple access, the asymptotic characteristics of networks and their dependence on the number of network and terminal nodes, the size of the network as a whole, were obtained. The specificity of wireless networks is the propagation of signals through a free environment, that is, fundamentally open access to signals as carriers of information that is transmitted from one subscriber to another. Based on the results of the analysis of promising information and communication and computer networks of critical application, it was found that the main problems for networks are their vulnerability to external interference of various origins, which worsens QoS indicators, in particular, performance. Therefore, in addition to the general problems of managing information and telecommunication networks, the problems of protection against unauthorized interference and external interference of various origins are quite acute in wireless networks. In order to constantly monitor network characteristics at the proper level, a method of calculating the current signal/(interference plus noise) ratio has been developed. According to the results of the analysis of the energy and information characteristics of the network, their relationship is established, which is not always obvious, but very indicative and useful, for example, for solving the tasks of multi-criteria optimization of parameters and management of the network state.

Information design for Vehicle-to-Vehicle communication

The emerging technology of Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) communication over vehicular ad hoc networks promises to improve road safety by allowing vehicles to autonomously warn each other of road hazards. However, research on other transportation information systems has shown that informing only a subset of drivers of road conditions may have a perverse effect of increasing congestion. In the context of a simple (yet novel) model of V2V hazard information sharing, we ask whether partial adoption of this technology can similarly lead to undesirable outcomes. In our model, drivers individually choose how recklessly to behave as a function of information received from other V2V-enabled cars, and the resulting aggregate behavior influences the likelihood of accidents (and thus the information propagated by the vehicular network). We fully characterize the game-theoretic equilibria of this model using our new equilibrium concept. Our model indicates that for a wide range of the parameter space, V2V information sharing surprisingly increases the equilibrium frequency of accidents relative to no V2V information sharing, and that it may increase equilibrium social cost as well.

Pro-environmental elements in the business model of medium and large Polish road freight carriers

Purpose: The policy of sustainable development places requirements on businesses to reduce their negative environmental impact. One of the sectors of the economy that is responsible for greenhouse gas emissions is road transportation. Consideration of the European Union’s environmental goals is forcing road carriers to have environmental measures built into their business models. The purpose of the study was to learn how road carriers can reduce their negative environmental impact so that they can fit in with the goals of the environmental policy and to learn about the regulatory tools that the road carriers expect to be able to support these activities. Design/methodology/approach: Data for this study was collected in computer-assisted telephone interviews (CATI). The study was conducted in late 2021 and early 2022 by a Polish company that was responsible for the selection of the sample and the collection of the data. The survey was conducted on a sample of 146 medium and large Polish road freight carriers and was a continuation of a study carried out on the same sample of entities conducted in late 2019 and early 2020 using the same technique. Findings: As part of their fleet policy, in order to fit in with environmental goals, carriers base their business models on the purchase of new means of transportation that meet increasingly stringent emission standards and reinforce environmentally friendly attitudes by buying means of transportation with smaller engine displacement that is tailored to the needs arising from their operations. Pro-environmental operational activities of medium and large Polish road freight carriers involve the use of solutions that change the composition of exhaust gases (AdBlue) and reduce fuel consumption (lowering rolling resistance – energy-efficient tires and lowering air resistance – fairings), and the acquisition of pro-environmental driving skills (eco-driving). Other environmentally friendly measures are to increase the utilisation of the vehicle capacity (cargo consolidation) and to eliminate empty runs by looking for cargo to be carried on the way back and using route planning software. Originality/value: The paper indicates the methods to reduce the negative environmental impact considered in the business models of medium and large road freight carriers, so that they fit in with the environmental policy goals, and indicates their expectations associated with the support for the achievement of zero-emission transportation. The results can be useful in the adoption on both the European and Polish level of policies leading to a zero-carbon economy. Keywords: sustainable business models, road freight transport. Application of project financing methods in creating regional information system of road transport

This paper presents an analysis of the main methods of project financing to justify the source of funds when creating a regional information system for road transport, which is a database of the organizational activities operating on the principle of an information platform. The necessity of its use as an integral part of the transport digitalization process, the impact on strategic management and the efficiency of resource use has been substantiated. The functioning of the regional information system, its capabilities and the nature of its influence on the process of strategic management of a motor transport company are described. The possibility of its creation as a regional project has been substantiated in order to obtain the possibility of using project financing as a source of investment. The advantages of using an information system have been highlighted, as well as the main ways for further scientific research in the field of its legal organization and technological use of software. The novelty of the study has been reasoned by the absence of such information systems, as well as its consideration as a regional project that contributes to increasing the competitiveness of the Russian economy through the development of transport.

RELATIONAL DATABASE WORK OPTIMIZATION OF THE TRANSPORT INFORMATION SYSTEM

Informatization of society poses new challenges and requirements for information systems in transport, which are responsible for data processing and storage. A significant number of performance problems in developed applications are related to databases, because often poor database performance directly affects the application's slowdown. For the normal functioning of the processes of diagnostics of rolling stock and automation systems, decision-making, and the formation of reports in the transport industry, the task of optimizing the management of databases and ensuring their productivity under the condition of simultaneous multi-user access arises. The article discusses the stages of query execution and approaches to increasing the efficiency of the query optimizer. The main factors that depend on the performance of queries in information systems based on relational databases are analyzed. Optimization criteria can include such performance estimates as time required to generate a report, query execution time, speed of finding data in non-indexed fields, maximum number of simultaneous accesses to data in multi-user mode, speed of indexing, as well as update, delete and add operations.

Необходимость развития единой информационной системы на зерновом рынке и цифровой трансформации транспортно-логистической инфраструктуры Сибирского федерального округа

The issues of developing a unified information system in the grain market and the digital transformation of transport and logistics infrastructure are gaining high importance in modern economic conditions. This issue is especially relevant in the Siberian Federal District, as the region is the largest grain producer. The level of development of transport and logistics infrastructure in the Siberian Federal District does not allow the subjects of the grain market to deliver large volumes of grain to the consumer promptly and on time via interregional links and for export, and the remoteness from the main sales markets leads to an increase in the price of grain due to high transaction costs. The article reflects the main indicators of grain production in Russia and the Siberian Federal District in dynamics for 2017-2021. The mechanism of organization of the digital system of transport and logistics infrastructure of the grain market is presented. The authors have identified the principles that determine the development of a unified information system for the grain transport and logistics infrastructure of the Siberian Federal District, their content. The study focuses on the prerequisites and the need for the use of digital technologies that facilitate the implementation of more efficient activities in the grain market, process the required amount of data in the shortest possible time and optimize transaction costs. The exchange of operational and reliable information between the subjects of the grain market is a success factor in the management of grain supply chains.

The concept that leads to choosing any product that can provide satisfaction is value, where the value itself is a consumer's estimate of the product's capacity to satisfy various goals. But unfortunately, the export-import transportation activities are currently still dominated by companies. This can be seen from the increase in shipping companies, both national and foreign, the consequence of which is the emergence of competition among shipping companies. For the smooth operation of loading and unloading of imports or exports, it is necessary for the carrier/ship owner as well as the customer/user of the goods delivery service. To realize this smoothness, in carrying out the activities of the shipping company, it can appoint agents at the port where the ships will visit to carry out activities. Procedurally, the shipping company appoints a general agent in a certain maritime capital in the country that will be visited by the ship in order to carry out loading and unloading activities. Unloading and loading activities. So that general agency companies that have been appointed as representatives can improve services to attract customers. The port agent's task is to serve the ship and submit documents for when the ship has docked and left in the port area of ​​PT. Pelindo II Banten Branch, Inaportnet is a system that combines, among others, a traffic and sea transportation information system, an online ship system, a seafarer certificate application, a port information system, and a port business entity system, PT. Benua Indah Gemaca is a ship agency that uses the Inaportnet service system. Mastering technology and communication is very important in document services with KSOP and other related agencies. The problem that arises with the implementation of the Inaportnet system is that some employees do not master Inaportnet technology, this will hamper ship document services and cause the company to pay more than it should to pay for human resources from outside who understand Inaportnet technology.

Palm oil plantation transportation management improving using economic information systems and Qm-Windows

Limited information, mainly based on real economy as a tool for determining transportation infrastructure location, is one of the obstacles faced by oil palm plantation companies. This study aims to develop a management information system for transporting the Transportation of Fresh Fruit Bunches (FFB) in oil palm plantations with considering the economic analysis by combination of GIS and Qm-Windows. This research uses the descriptive method. The study was conducted at one of the oil palm plantations in Central Kalimantan. Data were analyzed using the post-classification change detection (PCCD) method and estimated costs using the transportation method with the Qm-Windows program’s help. The results showed that the GIS with Arcgis 10.1 application could compile an inventory information system for oil palm plantation transportation. Cost estimation based on the Qm-Windows application can be used to determine the priority of transportation selection estimation with minimum cost. These applications can be applied as reference considerations for policymaking in managing oil palm FFB transportation management.

System dynamics model for intra-city multimodal transportation considering behavioral indicators and demand under uncertainty conditions

PurposeBy designing a system dynamics model in the form of a multimodal transportation system, this study for the first time seeks to reduce costs and time, and increase customer satisfaction by considering uncertainties in the intra city transit system, especially demand uncertainty and provide a prototype system to prove the capability of the dynamical system.Design/methodology/approachThe paper tried to model the factors affecting the intra city multimodal transportation system by defining different scenarios in the cause-and-effect model. The maps and results developed according to system dynamics modeling principles are discussed.FindingsFour scenarios were considered given the factors affecting the urban transportation system to implement the transportation information system for reducing the material and non-material costs of wrong planning of the intra city transit system. After implementing the scenarios, scenario two was selected under the following conditions: advertising for cultural development, support of authorities by efforts such as street widening to reduce traffic, optimize infrastructure, increase and optimize public transport and etc.Originality/valueThe value of this paper is considering uncertainty in traffic optimization; taking into account behavioral and demand indicators such as cultural promotion, official support, early childhood learning, traffic hours and the impact of traveler social status; investigating the factors affecting the system under investigation and the reciprocal effects of these factors and real-world simulation by considering the factors and effects between them.

Misinformation and misperception in the market for parking

Parking regulations have been widely adopted by cities as a tool to tackle traffic-related externalities. Both researchers and practitioners have proposed parking policy interventions that tend to rely on the assumption that parkers have perfect information about the availability of parking options and their characteristics (prices and quality) when determining consumers’ behavior. However, research shows that when information acquisition (search) is costly it is rational for consumers not to be fully informed at the expense of their taking non-optimal decisions, with negative welfare implications.We conduct an empirical study of the level of knowledge and information held by drivers in the car parking market. We draw on a survey conducted with 576 garage customers in Barcelona to estimate different regression models to assess how drivers transform information into actual knowledge, identifying the factors that aggravate/mitigate misinformation and misperception (subjective information levels and its accuracy). We find that parkers know little about available parking alternatives and their prices, and the accuracy of their knowledge is poor and biased towards prioritizing curbside parking. Costly search does not help drivers increase their knowledge levels, with garage facilities’ and surrounding areas’ characteristics playing a relevant role. We also find that garages have effective obfuscation strategies to keep drivers uninformed and exploit their localized market power by reducing price saliency and increasing fee complexity. Our results suggest that information should be carefully considered in the design and implementation of parking policy interventions and transport information systems, in order to avoid undesired market distortions.

Assessment of Reliability of the Transport Information Systems

In this paper is given the definition of e reliability of a transport information system, with features of transport information systems listed. Equations for calculating reliability indicators are given, as well. The developed hierarchical graph model for assessing the reliability of transport information systems and an algorithm for analyzing the graph model, which allows taking into account the specifics of the reliability of the operation of system elements at different levels of the hierarchy, are presented. Using the graph model and the graph model analysis algorithm, it is possible to reasonably predict the strategy for the creation and development of transport information systems.
