Modality in the Novel of The Lord of The Rings and its Translations in Indonesian Language

This study aims to identify the meanings and techniques used in translating the modality from SL (English) to TL (Bahasa) in the novel of The Lord of The Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien. The data in this study were taken from the original novel of The Lord of The Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien in English version and its translation in Indonesian language. The theories applied to analyse the data are the types of modality proposed by Kreidler (1998) and the translation procedures proposed by Newmark (1988). The data in this study were analyzed using qualitative descriptive approach to find out the result of the problems. The observation method was chosen to apply in this study by reading the SL and TL novel carefully to get the general idea of the content of the story and then observing closely the data consist of modality. The data in this study were presented descriptively used informal method. It meant the data would be presented by giving some descriptions to convey the meanings and translations of the modality. The results are the modality expressed some meanings and used some translation procedures. Modal must expressed unavoidable obligation and strong advice or orders to oneself, it used modulation procedure. Modal should expressed criticism and giving an opinion about something, it used reduction and couplets procedure. Modal have to expressed idea of obligation and used modulation procedure. Modal ought to expressed desirability and used modulation procedure. Modal can expressed ability and giving permission, it used modulation and shift procedure. Modal could expressed ability and used reduction and expansion procedure. Modal may expressed permission and used couplets procedure. Modal might expressed permission and possibility, it used reduction and literal translation procedure.

Pengembangan Materi Ajar Mata Kuliah Pembelajaran Basa Jawa Berbasis Translation Bahasa Indonesia (Studi di Prodi PGMI STAI Al-Hikmah Tuban)

Lectures are a very pleasant thing for some active students. For passive students, lectures are a scourge themselves. For example he does not like one of the courses, so he will rarely enter. This greatly disrupts the learning climate in the classroom. The Center HotelOn the campus of the Al Hikmah Islamic School of Tuban one of them is a number of courses that are disliked by students, especially PGMI students. The course is Javanese Language Learning in MI / SD. This subject is very disliked by most students, because one of the reasons they do not understand the meaning of the Javanese language. The Javanese say, wong jowo doesn't understand jowone (Javanese don't understand Javanese). This is very ironic if left without any special handling will make students who are more passive to college increasingly. From the results of a survey conducted and interviews with some of the students it was found that the Javanese language learning course in MI / SD is indeed difficult, the article they do not understand the meaning of the Javanese words. The existence of this kind of research needs to be done to solve lecture problems, especially in Javanese Language Learning courses in MI / SD. Penetili raised the title Development of Teaching Material for Javanese Language Learning Subjects Based on Indonesian Language Translation to Improve Javanese Language Ability PGMI STAI Al Hikmah Tuban Students.With this research, it is expected that students will easily learn the Java Base Learning material in MI / SD. With students or prospective MI / SD teachers being familiar with the material they learned during college, they will be more confident that they will teach it later in MI / SD when they become MI / SD teachers. This research is a research and development (R & D). The product produced from this research is the development of teaching materials in Java Language Learning in MI / SD. This is in line with Sugiyono that Research and Development is research that is used to produce certain goods / products and test whether they are suitable for use or not.Therefore, this research aims to develop teaching materials for Java Language Learning in MI / SD-based Indonesian translation, so students are able to understand the meaning of Javanese vocabulary and become familiar with Javanese. The Center HotelThis research also includes the type of research development using the Four-D Model. However, the stages are limited to the development stage. While the approach used (Mixed) approach. Mixed is one of the development methods of research that utilizes two approaches namely quantitative and qualitative. The results of this study can be seen in three stages. The first stage of defining, this stage includes the beginning-end analysis stage, student analysis, concept analysis, task analysis, analysis of learning objectives. The second stage is the design, this stage begins to draft draft 1 and validation of the first draft of teaching material. The third stage of development includes revision of draft 1, validation of draft II teaching materials, revision of draft II results, limited trials, extensive trials, revision of draft III, and the final model of teaching materials (draft IV). From the development stage of teaching materials, it is obtained the results of the assessment of each validator, namely the material component and the presentation component of 95%, the linguistic component and the graphic component of 90%. And all components get a very decent category. The quality of teaching materials in terms of usage is obtained from the activities of Lecturers and Lecturer Responses with a percentage of 100%, student activities and student responses of 95% as well as the results of lectures from written tests increased by 15 points from the average pre-test score of 70 to an average average 85 at the post test. PENERAPAN ALGORITMA TURBO BOYER MOORE PADA APLIKASI KAMUS BAHASA INDONESIA - ALAS

The base language is one of the regional languages used in Aceh Province, precisely in Southeast Aceh. The base language is basically divided into 3 (three) pieces of dialeg, namely upstream (subtle), middle (medium), and downstream (rough). As time goes on, the Alas language becomes increasingly forgotten because the younger generation prefers to learn foreign languages to keep up with the times so that many Alas communities, especially the younger generation, cannot communicate using the Alas language. To preserve the Alas language, a technology-based dictionary application is needed that is developing at this time to help young people learn the Alas language. Improving the accuracy of string matching in translating the Alas language into Indonesian in the application in the dictionary application used to study the Alas language in this study used the Turbo Boyer Moore string matching agorithm. The results of this study are in the form of desktop-based applications that can be used easily on a computer with the results of Indonesian language translation search into the Alas language with accurate stringency accuracy efficiently and efficiently with minimum time. An Analysis On The Strategies Used To Translate Idioms With Reference To J.K. Rowling’s Novel Entitled Harry Potter And The Philosopher’s Stone

This research is conducted to identify the idiom and its types in JoanneKathleen Rowling’s novel entitled Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone as wellas strategies used to translate them in the translation versionThe data of this descriptive qualitative research are idiomatic expressionsfound in the novel and its translation in Indonesian language. Documentationis used to collect the data. The data of this research are phrases or sentencesthat contain idiomatic expressions. Meanwhile, content analysis method isapplied for analyzing data in relation to their contexts. The result of this research shows that 140 idioms in 13 types were found in theEnglish novel from chapter 15 to chapter 17. Those thirteen types are phrasalverb (61.43%), prepositional phrase (13.57%), semi-opaque idiom (7.86%), noun phrase (5%), clause idiom (4.29%), idiom of comparison (2.86%), miscellaneous (1.43%), proverb (0.71%), adverb phrase (0.71%), adjectivephrase (0.71%), idiomatic pairs (0.71%), and simile (0.71%). Furthermore, there are three translation strategies used by the translator. Theyare translation using an idiom of similar meaning but dissimilar form, paraphrase, and omission. The researcher found that paraphrase is thehighest number with 134 idioms (95.7%). The second strategy is translation byusing an idiom of similar meaning but dissimilar form with 5 idioms (3.59%). Theless strategy used by the translator is translation by omission with only oneidiom (0.71%). It can be concluded that paraphrase is the most preferredstrategy used by the translator. It was used because she wants to deliver themessage of the text as natural as possible by using the most equivalentmeaning of the idiom in Indonesian

Directing Cymbeline: Leon activated attributes of God for the 38th Bali Arts Festival 2016

Applying the theory of Bali Creative Art, this paper looks at the theatre directing elements, concept, and method applied by Leon Rubin when he directed Shakespeare’s Cymbeline. Invited by the Head of the Bali Province Cultural Directorate to showcase a cross-cultural theatrical production, Leon selected and integrated twenty-five artists (actors/actresses, costume and lighting designers) from Bali, Indonesia; Malaysia, Mexico, Brazil, China, and England in a new work for the 38th Bali Arts Festival in 2016. Most of the actors were able to stay in Bali for three weeks to rehearse; the piece was also shown in limited seating venues in the villages of Ubud and Abian Semal for three nights in a row from 25 to 27 June 2016. Despite the great challenge for the non-Indonesian actors and director, all were finally able to collaborate under Leon’s direction and perform the Indonesian language translation of the original Shakespearian text. Although the local artists informed Leon that the Cymbeline play would be competing with sounds from loud speakers in several nearby performance venues and the stage crew offered the actors microphones—Leon did not allow sound amplification of the actors, musicians, narrator, or the singer. Surprising yet amusing local audiences with several uncommon features, the Cymbeline show was considered to be the best collaborative production among the nearly 350 performances presented during the month-long festival.

In the important politicalevents that have occurred, such polemics have often emerged and become sources ofserious political tensions.Carool Kersten's book, an Indonesian-language translation of Islam inIndonesia: The Contest for Society, Ideas, and Values (2015), examines thecontestations of discourses and actors during Indonesia's Reform Era within therelationship of the state and religion (Islam). This book comprehensively explains how two groups—progressive Muslims and conservative (reactionary) Muslims—havecontinued their predecessors' struggles. It focuses specifically on the first group, as wellas the diverse sub-discourses included therein.

Detecting proper nouns in indonesian-language translation of the quran using a guided method

Proper nouns (often abbreviated PN or NNP) are a class of words important in labelling and subsequent text processing, especially in natural language processing (NLP). Name entity recognition (NER) is one study that requires PN. The lack of labeled data for Indonesian text, especially the PN label, may be attributed for the lack of NER research in the Indonesian language. This study aims to detect PN in Indonesian-language translations of the Quran guided by deriving location information from the Quran as its source text. In the Indonesian language, PN are written using initial capital letters, which are used to determine and guide PN location. This article proposes that PN in Indonesian-language translations of the Quran can be determined based on PoS Information of Quranic text by developing a certain production rule. The results of this research showed that the proposed method has promising results for further research.

Dynamic equivalence assessment of Japanese comic (manga) “garasu no kamen” into Indonesian language translation “topeng kaca” (the glass mask)

The research is aimed at having a deep understanding about the dynamic equivalence of Japanese comics (manga) “Garasu no Kamen” translated into the Indonesian language “Topeng Kaca” (The Glass Mask). This is a qualitative-content analysis research about the dynamic equivalence of translation assessment by using a method of translation assessment that we called “Combined Model” at each unit of translations such as (1) in the unit of semantic and lexical micro-level, which includes mainly morphemes, words; (2) in the unit of phrases, and different kinds of multi-word expressions; (3) in the unit of syntactic and textual macro-level are being assessed; The text samples from the Manga “Garasu no Kamen” and its translation in Indonesian language “Topeng Kaca” (The Glass Mask) comics series volume no.1,3,6 are quoted in the analysis for each level of dynamic equivalence. The result of the study showed that there is three level of Dynamic Equivalence (D-E), those are D-E Adequate, D-E Less adequate, and D-E misleading. The findings are applicable and will be a valuable reference for translation studies in the country particularly in the level of a university student in order to be able to make a good quality of comics translation from Japanese into the Indonesian language.

A Brief Talk on Translation Issues About Country-Specific Chinese Teaching Material for Indonesia

Currently, the majority of Chinese teaching materials used in Indonesia has general characteristic usage, and poorly addresses the true needs of Indonesia students. The Chinese teaching materials used in Indonesia are not country-specific but only translated into Indonesian language. This paper evaluated six books, consisting three types of elementary Chinese teaching materials thoroughly observed Indonesian language translation, and analyzed translation issues that occur in the Chinese language teaching materials. Through this observation, it can be seen in translation aspect, still not appropriate for Indonesian students.

Developing Specific Chinese Teaching Material for Indonesia Based on a Comparation between Chinese and English Teaching Materials

Teaching material is a foundation of language learning. It is also a very important tool in teaching and learning process. Especially for students who learnt in non-Chinese environment, during the learning process, they can only rely on teachers and teaching materials. Article was based on previous research about teaching methods. Article used two teaching materials that have Indonesian language translation Contemporary Chinese and Chuji Biaozhun Huayu. Besides, it compared the content and designed to analyze the similarities and differences of these teaching materials. Through the analysis, research gives solution in teaching materials design.

Watak Manusia Dalam Naskah Geguritan Joharsa

The study of Balinese manuscripts Classical Islamic religious nuance is done using philological approach and method of content analysis based on the framework of semio tic analysis of Roland Barthes post-structural. Stages of this research include the transfer of language or transliteration of the manuscript into Indonesian. After that, then the manuscript was translated into Indonesian. Indonesian-language translation is being analyzed. Geguritan Joharsa analyzed in this report only 4 Canto, namely Canto 19 to Canto 22. Geguritan Joharsa Canto 19 to Canto 22 describes the character of each actor in this geguritan. Those cantos describe good human nature and human nature is not good. Human nature is well refected by Joharsa, Narawulan and Nahoda as perpetrators. Joharsa has noble character exemplary human beings. Character is very important in family life and in public life. Character in accordance with Joharsa is Narawulan. She has devoted to her husband’s character. She faced a diffcult life very hard, but she remained faithful to her husband until met. Nahoda character is like to distance them from the world and like to help with no strings attached. Which is not good character played by King Lokantara.
