TRANSCENDENT PLANNING TECHNOLOGIES OF ACCOMPLISHMENT FOR LANDSCAPE (PROCESS-ENVIRONMENT) PHENOMENA OF SETTLING AS THEORETICAL AND METHODOLOGICAL BASE FOR CITY PLANNING DESIGNING

In the frames of creative-recursive concept of settling, after investigation in antecedent articles meaningful issues concerning compositional trigger-schemes and assembly-schemes for urban landscape accomplishment, the third part of general theoretical research of technological kernel of logos-system explication mechanism of cultural forms of the settling reality was presented. It was shown that given research naturally and expectedly makes apparent the metaphysical foundations for transcendent activity (autopoesis) of planning technologies ensemble for accomplishment of settling, that demonstrates the analysis of broad spectrum of philosophical and methodological opinions concerning the source for "primordium" of transcendent technologies of accomplishment of reality phenomena, which reveal "the truth of being". 
 The research results in domain of technics philosophy were examined, where the historical horizon concerning technological notions was given, which determines ontological place of technics (technique) as a subjective ability coming into being and transformation of things and as an object, which anticipates using the instructions concerning transformations. As an intermediate conclusion concerning technological constituents of logos-system mechanism is an assertion about the possibility for insulation strictly "executive" two-part module of instructive-instrumental planning technologies and reflexive-methodical duplex-block for the accompaniment of ontical and existential matrix planning principles of primordium and configurative matrices for an application of sense-meaning (content) of that technologies.
 On the base of surveying of treatments the character of operation and meaning for feedback mechanisms (schemes) for self-regulation and achievement of object entirety was determinated one of the central discursive points of the configuration of "sum" of transcendent planning technologies, its ontoconstructional role and specific character of working.
 The ontological context of thematication for the content issue that technologies was written in maximum frames of ontic "pattern of universe" (settling) for positioning the agents for transcendent activities and fixing onto-sense support points of conceptual uncovering recursive content of technological working. The ontological model was elaborated to demonstrate working subordination of planning technologies as compositional cascade participation (mutually adjustedness from matrix autopoesis source-prototechnology) concerning synthesis-planning explication of reality forms. The specific role of technological aggregates for planning (practical-regulative) technologies and invariant agents of stability accomplishment of settling phenomena, that is ensured owing to working of logos-system composition aggregate was exhibited. In the analytical context of problems and conceptions concerning management of city planning processes, principles of application appropriate planning technologies and also problems of rate setting for urban landscape phenomena the suitable ontological model was treated. It is the model of singular "genome" (primordium) of transcendent planning technologies, which secure mastering and realization (or their possibility to be used) mental and physical city planning technologies in the sphere of concerted action (processing) power and unpower constituents of logos-system mechanism.
 The statements of two propound ontological models were examined in affiliation to determine the essence of immanent-transcendent working of configurator (as cultural form-logoses attribute) on the base of ensemble (association) of transcendent planning technologies, order of priority to put through acting, predominant succession and adaptatiogenesis of coordination – compatible resource-embodiment and resource-circulation of topoform personification. In total number of the given thematic (subject) research there are meaningful characteristics of ensemble of four transcendent planning technologies of becoming and transformation of landscape (process-environment) phenomena of settling (poetics, architectonics, figuralistics, temporalistics) as logos-system processing of configurating of precondition harmonic action (environment) concerning accomplishment of the basic processes (accordingly) reproduction, development, forming, functioning of the landscape whole with using instructional directives as to harmonization the parameters for embodiment of landscape phenomena attributes, process trigger-instruments as to coming out of four base processes of settling on firstly established trends, and also instrumental trigger-schemes as to regulation conditional parameters of appropriate environment attributes of settling (regular alteractions, properties, arrangement, functions).
 As a conclusion theoretical-methodological statement is manifested: city planning designing decisions must not contradict to the laws of discovering the universe and to the technologies for explication mechanism of cultural forms of reality and also to the principles of becoming and transformation of the settling landscape phenomena. The aggregate compositional totality of instructive installing schemes (assemblers) together with appropriate instrument trigger-schemes create the articulational directive-methodical kernel of four theoretical and practical city planning designing technologies with distinguishing adequate feasible types of strategical planning.

The theme of childhood, being of particular importance in the 20th century, was influenced by the tradition of describing the child’s worldview in the stories of growing up in the 19th century. This work considers the story “Childhood” written by L. N. Tolstoy as a pretext to another story “Luvers’s Childhood” by B. Pasternak. We analyze the echoes that arise between two stories. The method of defamiliarization (ostranenie) causes the world of childhood to be transformed into a world filled with things that exist in the space of memory and therefore undergo transformations. Although being almost imperceptible in Tolstoy’s story, this transformation of things in Pasternak’s story results in an enormous number of associations growing out of each image. While indicating the difference in using defamiliarization approach in the 19th and 20th centuries, we argue that the impressionistic perception caused by this method is already present in Leo Tolstoy’s text. Also, the analysis covers the theme of memories and the associated motifs of the border and its crossing and the themes of sleeping and awakening, vision through dreams. These themes and motifs arising in the story of growing up suggest the authors to have introduced borderline situations and states into the narrative. Such a tradition in the Russian story of childhood, already having been presented in Tolstoy’s “Childhood”, was preserved in the works of the 20th century.

Pp. xxxvii + 302. Paperback $28.00, ISBN 978-1-62466-855-5. The Zhuangzi is perhaps the one and only work in classical Chinese philosophy that never fails to blow one's mind with its exquisite intertwining of high frivolousness, literary power, ambiguity, ambivalence, profundity and provocativeness all at once. There is urgent need of a translation able to transmit this paradoxical reading experiences as it is. Happily, all of these qualities, with the possible exception of ambiguity, are revealed in Brook Ziporyn's Zhuangzi: The Complete Writings, with both poetry and precision. Through a hermeneutical approach that inter-contextualizes each line and each word of the thirty-three chapters, especially many controversial places, he makes the chaotic and unsystematic text more complexly harmonious--a many in one and one in many harmony--through his undoubtedly unique, innovative, perspectival and very "Ziporyn" interpretation. It's always dangerous for a translation to say more than the original text, but I'm glad that Ziporyn expresses his own interpretation more explicitly and boldly, and with such precision. It's not a mere translation, but a monumental scholarly achievement, an expression of the translator's painstaking efforts of many years' working on Zhuangzian philosophy. I personally believe it will be another classic in history after Burton Watson's elegance and A. C. Graham's philosophical precision, especially a classical reader-friendly textbook for those interested in ancient Chinese philosophy, or at least a phenomenal matrix for future philosophical discussions in academia. The present volume contains, besides a complete translation of the Inner, Outer and Miscellaneous chapters, an "Introduction," "Notes on the Translation," a "Glossary of Essential Terms," a "Bibliography" that includes modern and contemporary works on Zhuangzi from Chinese and English-speaking countries and an "Index." Ziporyn compares translation to "an art like architecture," and writes that the translator must make sure "a thousand aesthetic and compositional decisions cohere around its substructure of precision in a way that brings into focus the life, style, and rhythm of the source text" (p. xxix), which is the principle he implements throughout his translation. He makes full use of the endnotes after each chapter both to provide other possible ways of understanding and to explain explicitly and extensively why and how he made his [End Page 1] own choice (e.g. six and a half pages, nearly 5,000 words, just for Chapter 2). Ziporyn does not simply expand on his 2009 selective translation, but has revised carefully and thoroughly, sometimes opening a whole new dimension of interpretation based on textual studies. Structurally speaking, in the earlier translation Ziporyn seems to have aimed more at reconstructing an authentic and textually coherent Zhuangzian philosophy in its cultural matrix and reception history by including selected passages even if regarded as merely "attributed to Zhuangzi" (Zhuangzi Essential Writings1, p. viii) as well as abundant traditional commentaries with varying opinions. He thus provided readers with numerous alternate ways of connecting unrelated passages; the commentaries are essential to this vision. In the 2020 version, Ziporyn aims at a bigger picture. He's not merely reconstructing a historically authentic picture of the many alternate Zhuangzian philosophies available in the cultural record, but also the Zhuangzi as a living and changing body discoverable through textual hermeneutics, thus also opening the possibility, among others, of viewing all the controversies identified with different strains of thought "as wildly contradictory and unresolved aspect of one man's thinking," like "Nietzsche's middle-period hodgepodge aphoristic style" (p. x). Instead of the traditional commentaries, Ziporyn focuses on the whole book as a densely interwoven symphony or concerto. Textually speaking, Ziporyn drills down into details, and takes extreme care in his treatment of key terms, lines, and passages to reduce ambiguity, thus making it a good textbook for students of Chinese philosophy. "Wuhua 物化," an essential term in the famous butterfly story, is usually translated as "the transformation of things," Ziporyn previously translated it as "transformation of one thing into another" (Zhuangzi Essential Writings, p. 21). The Big and the Great: A Reconstruction of Zhuangzi’s Philosophy on Transcendence

This essay attempts to demonstrate the logic of Zhuangzi in his different attitudes toward “debate on big and small” by bringing into discussion the two versions of translation in the English languages, which provide a new approach to analyze the difference in the controversial commentaries on Zhuangzi. This essay points out that the ideal of “free and easy wandering” is a type of positive pleasure. By means of rational thinking and imagination, one’s searching for the external values is turned into the internal pursuit for wisdom in the transformation of things. Zhuangzi’s theory of transcendence not only provides the subject with multi-perspectives, but also substitutes the self-identity with self-value. Through the interaction between self-awareness and self-reaction, the subject can be unified with the great Dao through purposive activities. However, Guo Xiang’s commentary cancels the necessity of self-cultivation and negates the purposefulness of the subject, which underestimates the value of Zhuangzi’s construction of transcendence.

Proust et le paysage: des écrits de jeunesse à la ‘Recherche du temps perdu’

Proust's 1908 musing as to whether his work in progress was to be a novel or a philosophical essay is well known. Perhaps less so is the writer's 1913 description of the novel to Robert de Flers as ‘un roman à la fois plein de passion et de méditation et de paysages’ (p. 241). Just as the former statement continues to inspire studies on the unique form of the novel, so the latter invites us to ask what a novel ‘plein […] de paysages’ may imply. This is the question that Keiichi Tsumori raises in a three-part book written originally as a doctoral thesis. Tsumori follows in the footsteps of André Ferré, Georges Poulet, and Jean-Pierre Richard, who dealt respectively with geography (Géographie de Marcel Proust (Paris: Sagittaire, 1939)), space (L'Espace proustien (Paris: Gallimard, 1963)), and the fragmentation and unification of the sensible world (Proust et le monde sensible (Paris: Seuil, 1974)), among other renowned commentators. More than one notion of landscape operates in Tsumori's book depending on whether the author draws from literary theory, aesthetics, phenomenology, or other literary works. To the rather flat question as to whether Proust ‘expresses landscape in his writing’ (p. 19), Tsumori provides rich analyses and a creative typology of landscapes that include ‘sonorous landscapes’ for example, by attending ‘chronologically’ to Proust's tâtonnements around them, from the early fictional and critical writings to À la recherche, against the backdrop of diverse aesthetic stances (from romanticism to modernism). The land, the countryside, and nature are prevalent in Proust, and not only as a result of the writer's interest in John Ruskin's work on Venice and French gothic architecture. Remembering, itself, coincides with the transformation of things into landscape (p. 374). Among many significant critical topoi raised by landscape is the opposition between objectivism and subjectivism. A landscape, so one of its definitions goes, emerges with the subject's perception of the external world more or less independently from its physical and geographical characters. Proust has inventively integrated the subjectivist conception into the story of a literary vocation, through a division of labour between the hero and the narrator with respect to perception. While landscapes emerge in the hero's consciousness through misperception and memory, the narrator develops a transcendent point of view on the hero's remembered landscapes that will form the basis of poetic creation. Landscapes, notably those of Paris during the Great War, concretize the hero's changing perceptions and aesthetic consciousness. These arguments are developed in the third and strongest part of the book, through the opposition between static and dynamic landscapes, where Proust has recourse to panoramic visions and elevated locations in order to create temporal continuity out of spatial discontinuity, and to integrate the subjective and objective outlooks. If Proust's travels helped form his depiction of places in his early writings, it is the motorcar and speed which have played that role in his late work. The book enlarges our knowledge of Proust, in addition to making us experience À la recherche as a novel almost exclusively made out of compelling landscapes.

In this paper, I will rethink these three viewpoints, and the conclusion of my analysis is, the meaning of ‘I’ in ‘I lost myself’ contains physical and spiritual part. The author mentioned the pipes of Earth, the pipes of human beings and the pipes of Heaven as a method to describe the logical relationship between ‘I’ and the physical and spiritual part in ‘myself’. As for ‘the use of brightness’ and ‘the transformation of things’, I think they are the two ways to realize eliminating ‘myself’ from ‘I’, and to reach the level of true ‘I’ finally. In this process, mentioning ‘the use of brightness’ for three times is focusing on the three reasons that the preconceptions are formed, and the discussion of ‘the transformation of things’ echoes the argument about ‘the use of brightness’ from an objective perspective.

Transformative Capacity, Information Technology, and the Making of Business ‘Experts’

This paper explores the making of experts and the basis of claims to expertise in corporate organisational settings. The performance of expertise within organisations is increasingly associated with the implementation and use of integrated business information systems which purport to abstract the world into an informational form to make businesses run more efficiently. We argue that as these systems are put to work to replace the calculations of human experts, we are required to rethink how expertise is constituted as a political and performative process. We focus on the provisos and qualifications that surround the use of calculative techniques and the worries and scepticism over the correctness, accuracy and interpretation of numbers and figures derived from systems of calculation. Rather than identifying expertise as the capacity to make calculations and to abstract ‘representations’ from the ‘real world’, a job increasingly done by information systems, we find expertise being performed in the transformation of things of different orders which enables representations to be returned to the world through allusions to their transformative effect.

On multiple fields. Between the material world and media: two cases from the Peloponnesus, Greece

Deeply embedded in much of archaeological thought is an epistemological scheme of the ‘field’ as separate from the ‘home-base’, whether laboratory, archive or study. This modernist division is inadequate, for it fails to account for the interconnected and nonlinear process of archaeological knowledge construction. Taking direction from science studies and specifically from the work of Bruno Latour, this article sketches a model of multiple fields, which may serve as an alternative to this divide. Through the effective juxtaposition of two case studies from the Greek Peloponnesus, it explores two disparate yet complementary cases of how multiple fields make up the epistemological terrain of archaeology. The first case study traces the strains of an early 19th-century web, which situates the process of knowledge production at that time, while the second focuses on the archaeological process by closely following the transformation of things into documents during a regional survey. By recasting and multiplying the ‘field’ in archaeology we move from an oversimplified and bounded modernist scheme to one that allows for the complexities of archaeological practices which involve the action of instruments, media and human beings.

“The ships that invented regions were directed toward the West”, announced Juan de Castellanos in 1587 in his Elegías dedicated to Christopher Columbus, and at the beginning of the 16th century Hernán Pérez de Oliva wrote a Historia de la invención de las Indias. The use of the word invention when speaking of the discovery of America may seem to be a semantic confusion or poetic license, viewed from the contemporary perspective of a discipline with well-defined limits, such as geography, since we usually understand invention as the transformation of things by man's intervention, while discovery is finding something that already existed so as to make it known to others.
