Adaptive Dynamic Programming for Robust Event-Driven Tracking Control of Nonlinear Systems With Asymmetric Input Constraints.

This article considers the robust dynamic event-driven tracking control problem of nonlinear systems having mismatched disturbances and asymmetric input constraints. Initially, to tackle the asymmetric constraints, a novel nonquadratic value function is constructed for the original system. This makes the asymmetrically constrained tracking control problem transformed into an unconstrained optimal regulation problem. Then, a dynamic event-driven mechanism is proposed. Meanwhile, the event-driven Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equation (ED-HJBE) is developed for the optimal regulation problem in order to acquire the optimal control with distinctly decreased computational burden. To solve the ED-HJBE, a single critic neural network (CNN) is designed in the adaptive dynamic programming framework. Meanwhile, the gradient descent method is employed to update the CNN's weights. After that, both the weight estimation error and the tracking error are proved to be uniformly ultimately bounded via Lyapunov's direct method. Finally, simulations of the spring-mass-damper system and the pendulum plant are separately utilized to validate the established theoretical claims.

Neuroadaptive event-triggered tracking control for nonlinear systems with dynamic fault feedback and prescribed time convergence

This paper investigates the problem of event-triggered adaptive prescribed time tracking control for nonlinear systems with combining multiplicative and additive dynamic sensor fault. A simple state observer is designed by fusing fault output and reference signal to estimate unmeasurable states, where the unknown unmeasurable uncertain functions are approximated by neural network technology. Then, the prescribed time performance function is constructed based on the time scale function, and a suitable function transformation is introduced so that the tracking error can reach the desired residual set in the prescribed time, where the initial value of the error can be arbitrarily selected regardless of the prescribed time performance function. Moreover, the desired accuracy and the prescribed time can be specified on request. The designed adaptive event-triggered controller can effectively compensate for the sensor fault in the output feedback control and reduce the communication burden, and the feasibility of the proposed method is verified by the simulation result.

Non-overshooting tracking control for nonlinear systems with prescribed finite-time

In this study, the problem of non-overshooting tracking control (NOTC) for a class of strict-feedback systems with prescribed finite-time (FT) is studied. In order to obtain a simple closed-loop system (CLS), we first propose a criterion lemma for prescribed FT stable control. A prescribed FT controller is designed by using backstepping and the proposed criterion lemma. According to the CLS, many conditions of NOTC are analyzed. Compared with the related results, the NOTC conditions obtained in this paper are relatively extensive, which reduces conservatism. The algorithm makes the system overshoot zero, so this result increases the accuracy. The final simulation results show that this algorithm is effective.

Observer-based fuzzy tracking control of nonlinear systems with intermittent output constraints

This paper pays attention to the output tracking control problem of nonlinear systems where the output is uniquely measurable and subject to an intermittent constraint. A multiplicative transformation based on the shifting-replaying function is introduced together with barrier Lyapunov function to solve the intermittent output constraint. A state observer independent of the matching condition of control gains is designed via the non-uniform state transformation to relax the assumption of full-state measurability. By virtue of the estimated states, we propose an output feedback controller that only involves one fuzzy adaptive parameter to restrain the effect of unknown system nonlinearities. Through Lyapunov stability analysis, it is proved that the proposed controller can make all signals in the closed-loop system remain semi-globally uniformly ultimately bounded. Two simulation examples are provided to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method, and also the superiority over the existing ones.

Adaptive event-triggered tracking control for nonlinear systems with prescribed performance: A time-domain mapping approach

This paper proposed an event-triggered adaptive fuzzy prescribed time control strategy for a class of nonlinear systems with uncertain external disturbances and unknown virtual control coefficients under prescribed performance. A novel time-domain mapping technique is proposed to transform the prescribed time tracking control problem into an asymptotic convergence problem. An observer is designed to estimate for the external disturbance and fuzzy approximation error of fuzzy logic systems (FLSs). The problem of “explosion of complexity” is addressed by applying dynamic surface control (DSC) technique to backstepping. An adaptive fuzzy event-triggered strategy is designed using the Lyapunov stability theorem. This strategy ensures that, after time-domain mapping, the tracking error asymptotically converges to zero. Additionally, there is no Zeno behavior and all system signals are bounded. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed scheme is verified through three simulation examples.

Fuzzy-tolerant-strategy for constrained nonlinear system via adaptive observer

This article considers the tracking control of nonlinear system with state constraints and faults. A fuzzy tolerant control approach on adaptive sliding-mode observer is proposed to accomplish good tracking performance. Firstly, for the purpose of getting the unknown state, a state estimator based on the fuzzy logic systems (FLSs) is designed. Secondly, a fuzzy observer by variable structure method is posed to approximate the faults, and the finite time convergence of observation error is proven. Furthermore, a two-layer nested adaptive law is constructed to improve the observer. Thirdly, a fuzzy backstepping tolerant controller based on super-twisting differentiator is proposed. In which, the barrier Lyapunov function is designed to counter the state constraints, and the super-twisting estimator is employed to estimate the derivative of virtual control input. Finally, two simulation results are analyzed to demonstrate the potential of the developed schemes.

Adaptive tracking control of nonlinear systems with unknown time‐varying parameters via a monotonically increasing function

AbstractThis article considers the adaptive tracking control problem of a class of strict feedback nonlinear systems with unknown time‐varying parameters. Note that the recent adaptive method, that is, congelation of variables, is built upon the assumption that the known basis functions are zeros as zero states. To remove this assumption, a novel monotonically increasing function is designed to transform the output tracking error and the backstepping tracking errors into increasing forms, which is integrated into the congelation of variables to design the ‐modification adaptive tracking control law. It is noted that the proposed form of monotonically increasing function is general, which includes positive proportional functions, exponential functions, and logarithmic functions and so on. To yield the boundedness of increasing tracking errors, a barrier Lyapunov function is designed. The asymptotic convergence of the resulting adaptive tracking system is analyzed in detail. Simulations demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Multilayer adaptive critic design with digital twin for data-driven optimal tracking control and industrial applications

In this paper, an optimal trajectory tracking control problem for general nonlinear systems is investigated. An adaptive critic control method with the digital twin (DT) theory is developed. Divergent from the existing tracking control methods, the advantages of adaptive dynamic programming (ADP) and the theory of DT are combined in this paper, and the novel multilayer artificial system structure is constructed. The action-critic structure is employed by each artificial system to obtain an approximate optimal control policy. The model network (MN) is built by using the actual input and output data sets of the controlled system, which means the dependence on the dynamics of the system is overcame. Then, the weights of the trained action network (AN) and MN are passed to the real system to realize the optimal tracking control. The feasibility of the algorithm is proved by theoretical analysis. Finally, the algorithm is applied to a simple nonlinear torsional pendulum system and an industrial wastewater treatment system (WWTS), and the effectiveness of the algorithm is verified. The algorithm effectively realizes the tracking control of nonlinear systems.

Command filter-based adaptive neural tracking control of nonlinear systems with multiple actuator constraints and disturbances

In this paper, the adaptive practical finite-time tracking control problem for a class of strictly feedback nonlinear systems with multiple actuator constraints is investigated using backstepping techniques and practical finite-time stability theory. The effects of deadband and saturated nonlinear constraints on the controller design of nonlinear systems are addressed by the equivalent transformation method. The problem of complexity explosion due to the derivatives of virtual control signals is solved by using the virtual control signals as inputs to the command filters and using the outputs of the command filters to perform the corresponding control tasks. An adaptive neural network tracking backstepping control strategy based on the command filter technique and the backstepping design algorithm is proposed by approximating an unknown nonlinear function using a neural network. The control strategy ensures the boundedness of all variables in the closed-loop system, and the output tracking error fluctuates in a small region near the origin. Finally, simulations verify the effectiveness of the control strategy designed in this paper.

Event‐triggered adaptive tracking control for nonlinear systems with input saturation and unknown control directions

AbstractThis article is concerned with event‐triggered adaptive tracking control design of strict‐feedback nonlinear systems, which are subject to input saturation and unknown control directions. In the design procedure, a smooth nonlinear function is employed to approximate the saturation function so that the controller can be designed under the framework of backstepping. The Nussbaum gain technique is employed to address the issue of the unknown control directions. A predetermined time convergent performance function and a nonlinear mapping technique are introduced to guarantee that the tracking error can converge in the predetermined time with a fast convergence rate and a high accuracy. Then the event‐triggered adaptive prescribed performance tracking control strategy is proposed, which not only ensures the boundedness of all the closed‐loop signals and the convergence of tracking error but also reduces the communication burden from the controller to the actuator. At last, the simulation study further tests the availability of the proposed control strategy.

Fault-tolerant tracking control for nonlinear systems with multiplicative actuator faults in view of zero-sum differential games

In view of zero-sum differential games, this paper addresses the fault-tolerant tracking control (FTTC) problem for nonlinear systems with multiplicative actuator faults. By augmenting the nominal system, the trajectory tracking problem is transformed into an optimal regulation problem. A fault observer is designed to estimate the multiplicative actuator fault factor. In order to better reflect system performance, a comprehensive performance index function including the trajectory tracking error, the control input, and the multiplicative actuator fault is constructed. By considering the control input and the multiplicative actuator fault as two players in the zero-sum differential game (ZSDG), the FTTC problem is thus transformed into a ZSDG problem. Then, a fault-tolerant control based on ZSDG is designed by solving the Hamilton–Jacobi-Isaacs (HJI) equation. Since the HJI equation is difficult to solve, a critic neural network is constructed to obtain its approximation, which constitutes the Nash equilibrium of the ZSDG. The closed-loop faulty system is guaranteed to be uniformly ultimately bounded via the Lyapunov’s direct method. The effectiveness of the developed FTTC method is demonstrated by two simulation examples.
