Development of Pelawan Tourist Attractions Through Strengthening Pokdarwis in West Pangke, Karimun Regency This community service activity aims to support the development of the tourist attraction of Pelawan Beach, Karimun Regency, by strengthening the role of the Tourism Awareness Group (Pokdarwis) and the participation of the local community. Pelawan Beach has natural tourism potential in the form of white sand, panoramic sea views, and sunset views, but its management is still not optimal, especially in terms of supporting facilities and promotion. The scope of this service includes community service activities based on student social internships in supporting coastal tourism destinations. The service method is implemented through social internship activities for students of the Sociology Study Program of Raja Ali Haji Maritime University, with work programs including building beach swings, wooden bridges as photo spots, creating mini parks, community empowerment socialisation, and making identity signs. The results of the activity show that the addition of simple tourism facilities and educational activities can increase the visual appeal of the destination and support social media-based tourism promotion. In addition, the socialisation carried out increased public awareness of the importance of involvement in tourism management. This activity shows that collaboration between students, Pokdarwis and the local community plays a vital role in the development of sustainable coastal tourism

Backward mental time travel: The interactive effects of mental time travel direction and tourism activity type on travel intention
  • Jan 27, 2026
  • Journal of Vacation Marketing
  • Chengshuo Huang + 2 more

Potential tourists may project their upcoming travel in two directions of mental time travel: from the present to the posttravel future, and from a mentally simulated posttravel future back to the present. Based on regulatory focus theory, this study examined the matching effect of the mental time travel direction and tourism activity type on tourist intention, as well as the mediating role of tourist expectation. The results show that for challenging (relaxing) tourism activities, mental time travel from the future back to the present (from the present to the future) is more effective in stimulating potential tourists’ travel intentions. Tourist expectations mediate this process. This study advances the theoretical application of mental time travel in tourism research and offers practical implications for the marketing of tourism activities.

  • Jesús Adriana Marrufo Calderón + 2 more

The present study aims to provide a territorial characterization of tourism resources with a community-based approach in the missions and oases of the municipality of Comondu, Baja California Sur. Natural, cultural, and historical elements with potential for sustainable and community-based tourism were identified and analyzed. The oases of La Purisima, San José de Comondu, and San Luis Gonzaga constitute central elements of the territory, support biodiversity, and preserve traditional productive practices, serving as focal points for nature- and ecotourism activities. Tangible and intangible cultural heritage, including missions, rock paintings, festivals, and local products, strengthens territorial identity and fosters sustainable tourism experiences with active community participation. Despite limitations in infrastructure, connectivity, and tourist services, the interest of residents and visitors highlights opportunities to integrate environmental conservation, local development, and social cohesion. The findings provide strategic inputs for participatory planning and the formulation of sustainable and community-based tourism policies in rural contexts.

  • Shafira Bilqis Annida + 3 more

Indonesia is known as a country with the second-longest coastline in the world. This geological condition offers promising potential for coastal tourism. However, the potential of coastal tourism is not without its management challenges. This study was conducted to analyze the tourism suitability index and ecological carrying capacity of coastal tourism at Citepus, Karang Hawu, and Cikaso Beaches. The assessment was conducted for three tourism categories: beach recreation, swimming, and camping. The tourism suitability index was assessed based on 12 physical beach criteria, including beach type and width, substrate type, depth, water transparency, current velocity, wave height, beach slope, vegetation, the presence of dangerous biota, freshwater availability, and scenery diversity. The ecological carrying capacity of the tourism area was calculated based on the coastal area and the optimal ecotourism area criteria for each type of recreation. The study was conducted from April to June 2025. The results of the tourism suitability index assessment showed that Citepus and Cikaso Beaches were categorized as very suitable for all three tourism activities. In contrast, Karang Hawu Beach was categorized as very suitable for beach recreation, moderately suitable for swimming, and conditionally suitable for camping. The coastal ecological carrying capacity assessment varied by beach size. Citepus Beach can accommodate 503 tourists for beach recreation, 378 for swimming, and 1,558 for camping. Karang Hawu Beach can accommodate 403 tourists for recreation, 302 for swimming, and 1,171 for camping. Cikaso Beach can accommodate 269 tourists for beach recreation, 201 for swimming, and 957 for camping.

  • Jan 27, 2026
  • Semantik : Jurnal Riset Ilmu Pendidikan, Bahasa dan Budaya
  • Ketut Rediyasa + 2 more

The fundamental issue in sustainable tourism management that remains less than optimal can be seen from the limited involvement of local communities and the lack of integrated management of tourism potential in the Pura Maduwe Karang area. The purpose of this study is to analyze sustainable tourism management in the management of Pura Maduwe Karang. This research employs a qualitative approach with a case study method through observation, interviews, literature review, and documentation. The theoretical foundations used include the concepts of Sustainable Tourism, the Triple Bottom Line, and Tourism Impact Theory. The results show that the implementation of sustainable tourism management at Pura Maduwe Karang is still basic and has not been structured professionally. The socio-cultural aspect is relatively well preserved through customary roles and ceremonial activities; however, the economic aspect has not provided significant benefits for individuals in the local community, as contributions remain limited to collective interests of the traditional village. The environmental aspect is currently well maintained due to the temple’s sacred status but may decline if tourist numbers increase without proper management. The main constraints lie in the lack of promotion, facilities, and human resource capacity in management. This study emphasizes the importance of tourism management strategies that balance the dimensions of profit, people, and planet, and encourages collaboration among traditional villages, local governments, and communities to maintain the sustainability of the temple as both a cultural heritage site and a tourist destination.

This study aims to analyze the implementation of tourism marketing communication mix in increasing the number of visitors at Curup Tujuh Waterfall Destination, Marga Jaya Village, Selagai Lingga District, Central Lampung Regency in 2024. The research background is based on the gap between the high natural tourism potential of the destination and the fluctuation in tourist arrivals. This study employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, field observations, and documentation studies involving destination managers, village officials, local communities, and tourists. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that the implementation of the tourism marketing communication mix has not been optimal and integrated. Each element of marketing communication, including advertising, sales promotion, public relations, digital marketing, and word-of-mouth communication, has been applied partially without a clear strategic plan. The use of digital media has not been professionally managed and has not yet succeeded in building a consistent destination image. The increase in tourist arrivals is more influenced by seasonal factors rather than by the effectiveness of marketing communication strategies. Limited message integration and weak collaboration among stakeholders have become major constraints in enhancing the destination’s competitiveness. This study concludes that strengthening an integrated, collaborative, and experience-oriented marketing communication mix is essential to achieve sustainable growth in tourist visits.

Socialization and Implementation of Digital Media in the Development of Promotional Videos for Guak Lago Camping Ground Tourism
  • Jan 20, 2026
  • Journal of Community Service and Application of Science
  • Muhammad Sayuti + 5 more

Nestled in the heart of nature, Bumi Perkemahan Guak Lago holds extraordinary tourism potential, yet remains trapped in the shadow of obscurity. The subject of this community service is a hidden gem awaiting its moment in the spotlight, where promotion still relies on conventional methods with limited reach. The prevailing phenomenon is a paradox: a captivating landscape enjoyed only by a handful of local visitors, while a vast wave of digital tourists actively seeks new destinations that go viral on their screens. This Community Service (Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat/PKM) initiative acts as a bridge, shifting the paradigm by bringing the winds of digital change directly to the managing community. The applied method was a series of transformative interactions, beginning with intensive socialization on the importance of digital media, followed by practical training and direct mentoring in visual content production. This process went beyond mere theory, immersing participants in every stage—from capturing images with smartphones and basic editing to distribution strategies on social platforms. The overall outcome of this activity is commendable: the birth of a professional promotional video entirely crafted by the local community, which now serves not only as a promotional tool but also as a new symbol of pride and self-reliance. The activity successfully ignited the spark of digital literacy, transforming passivity into activity, turning mere site caretakers into confident content creators. Its impact flows like the waters of Guak Lago refreshing, bringing new life, and opening a stronger current of economic opportunities for sustainable village tourism. This empowerment is not an end but the first step on a long journey toward promotional self-sufficiency in the digital era.

  • Jan 18, 2026
  • KREATIF: Jurnal Pengabdian Masyarakat Nusantara
  • Ni Putu Laras Purnamasari + 4 more

Silangjana Village in Buleleng, Bali, has natural tourism potential, one of which is the Candi Kuning Waterfall. The potential of Silangjana Village has not been balanced by structured educational tourism, village economic institutions, and low digital literacy and human resource capacity. The Impact Student Executive Board (BEM Berdampak) program has the main objective of increasing the capacity and empowerment of two target partners, namely the Lila Dharma Kerti Tourism Awareness Group (Pokdarwis) and the Dharma Kerthi Honey Bee Farmer Group, through the implementation of the innovative Eco-Art-Tech model. This model integrates environmental sustainability, namely Eco which refers to modern Trigona bee cultivation, Art which targets the creative economy with a program to recycle plastic waste into souvenirs, and Tech for digital systems supporting tourist attractions. The program's implementation methods include outreach, technical training, mentoring, and evaluation. Initial results show a significant increase in the knowledge and skills of Tourism Awareness Group (Pokdarwis) partners regarding source-based plastic waste management, as well as their ability to create various souvenir products such as fans, wallets, and key chains, to support tourism promotion. The Bee Farmers Group also experienced an increase in knowledge regarding modern Trigona honey cultivation techniques, and even achieved an effective and hygienic honey harvest. This program supports the SDGs and community economic independence.

The Evolution of Maritime Tourism in Bangladesh: A Theoretical Framework for Sustainable Growth
  • Jan 14, 2026
  • Asian Journal of Social Sciences and Legal Studies
  • Md Zillur Rahman*

Bangladesh, strategically located along the Bay of Bengal, holds immense potential for maritime tourism, a key component of the Blue Economy. With over 710 kilometers of coastline, the country is home to renowned attractions such as Cox’s Bazar, the longest natural sea beach in the world, and the Sundarbans, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Despite this, the maritime tourism sector in Bangladesh remains underdeveloped, and its economic potential has not been fully realized. This study constructs a theoretical framework for the sustainable evolution of maritime tourism in Bangladesh, a sector poised to be a cornerstone of the nation's Blue Economy. While the country's extensive coastline and unique assets like the Sundarbans and Cox's Bazar present significant potential, our analysis reveals that this potential is critically undermined by a confluence of systemic failures. These include pervasive environmental degradation, profound infrastructure deficits, and a regulatory landscape characterized by fragmentation and inertia. The paper argues that the absence of a dedicated, integrative policy framework is the primary barrier, exacerbating vulnerabilities to climate change and stifling inclusive growth. We propose a sustainability-centered framework that prioritizes institutional coherence, community-centric development, and climate-resilient infrastructure, contending that such an integrated approach is not merely beneficial but essential for transforming maritime tourism into a viable engine of long-term socio-economic and environmental resilience. Climate change adaptation strategies are also an essential component of this framework, given Bangladesh’s vulnerability to rising sea levels and extreme weather events that threaten its coastal regions. The findings underline the importance of a coordinated approach, which includes stronger policy frameworks, enhanced infrastructure, and increased community participation to ensure the sector’s long-term sustainability. The paper concludes with actionable recommendations for policymakers, tourism stakeholders, and local communities to develop and implement practices that will enable Bangladesh to unlock the full potential of its maritime tourism sector while preserving its unique marine ecosystems.

Integrating Local Wisdom in Tourism Strategies to Enhance Community Economic Growth
  • Jan 13, 2026
  • Dinasti International Journal of Economics, Finance & Accounting
  • Paulina Y Amtiran + 4 more

This study examines the effectiveness of a local wisdom-based tourism development approach as a strategy to enhance community income growth while ensuring cultural and environmental sustainability. The research employs a descriptive qualitative method, utilizing findings from Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) and a case study conducted in Southwest Sumba Regency. The research concludes that the key to success lies in synergistic collaboration among the community, local government, and the private sector, with a focus on local community sovereignty. Tourism will achieve maximum effectiveness when communities and traditional institutions are elevated from passive objects to active agents controlling tourism potential. This can be realized through: (1) Increasing equitable economic welfare, measured by the growth in turnover of small businesses (such as homestays and crafts) and job creation; (2) Preserving culture and traditional values, where traditional rules serve as operational standards and tools for socio-cultural governance; and (3) Synergistic and transparent governance, supported by strengthening the capacity of Pokdarwis and BUMDes. The primary implication of this research is that recognizing communities as the principal custodians of cultural and natural resources transforms tourism from a mere revenue generator into an effective tool for preserving traditions, supported by direct community incentives and responsibilities. The sustainability of this model relies heavily on the proactive role of local governments as facilitators and the engagement of a responsible private sector committed to local empowerment.

  • Konsienti : Community Services Journal
  • Arda Decs’Ta Heri Putri + 5 more

The development of village digitalization policies in Indonesia has not been fully followed by the availability of official information media at the village level, including in Matobe Village, which has a rich history, MSMEs, tourism potential, and tsunami vulnerability. This research/community service aims to develop a Matobe Village profile website as a means of preserving local history, promoting economic and tourism potential, and disaster education. The study uses a descriptive qualitative approach in the form of community-based research development. The population includes village government, community leaders, MSME actors, tourism managers, and residents in coastal areas; the sample was selected purposively, focusing on key informants who understand history, MSMEs, tourism, and disaster risk. The main instruments were researchers and a team of students, supported by interview guidelines, observation sheets, visual documentation, and GPS. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, documentation, and participatory mapping; analysis was conducted thematically with triangulation of sources and methods. The results of the study show the realization of the desamatobe.site website that contains documented local history, a MSME directory, tourism information on the Nipah Forest and Mabola Waterfall, as well as a digital map of tsunami-prone areas and zones. In conclusion, the village profile website plays a strategic role as a medium for historical preservation, promoting local potential, increasing information transparency, and strengthening the digital literacy capacity and disaster preparedness of village communities.

  • Setyo Purwanto + 3 more

This community service program aims to enhance digital literacy among the residents of Ngargorejo Village, Ngemplak Subdistrict, Boyolali Regency, by providing training on social media as a tool for promoting the village’s tourism potential. Ngargorejo Village possesses significant tourism potential, including natural beauty, local culture, and distinctive products. However, the community's limited knowledge of social media utilization poses a major challenge in effectively promoting these assets. The training program was designed using a participatory workshop approach, involving ten participants from local tourism managers and small business owners (UMKM). The training materials covered the creation of social media accounts, content development, management strategies, and hands-on practice. Evaluation results indicate a significant improvement in participants’ understanding of social media, with the average pre-test score of 49 increasing to 85 in the post-test. Additionally, the quality of participants uploaded content showed notable improvements in terms of visualization, narrative, and consistency. However, challenges remained, including low initial digital literacy, limited internet infrastructure, and inconsistency in content management after the training. To address these issues, the program provided solutions such as individualized mentoring, structured content guidelines, and the establishment of a village social media management team. This program has successfully provided the community with relevant digital skills, enabling them to independently promote their village’s potential. Recommendations for program sustainability include advanced training, infrastructure improvements, and local government support for regular content management.

Moving the goalposts: the intersection of sport, tourism and hospitality
  • Jan 10, 2026
  • Journal of Sport & Tourism
  • David Proctor + 1 more

ABSTRACT This paper develops a conceptual framework to examine how regional football clubs may be leveraged for their tourism and hospitality potential. Existing scholarship has largely concentrated on globally recognised clubs and mega-events, while limited attention has been given to the professional teams located in peripheral and economically disadvantaged regions that often function as community anchors. The framework integrates insights from actor network theory, stakeholder theory, social capital theory and the concept of leverage in order to explain how facilities, brands, stakeholder networks and communities can interact to shape tourism and hospitality outcomes. SC Cambuur and the regional context of the Dutch city of Leeuwarden (Friesland) are introduced as an illustrative case to demonstrate how these dynamics can be situated within a peripheral setting. The study contributes conceptually by extending the examination of sport tourism leverage into contexts where resources are constrained but where authenticity and embeddedness are central assets. It offers a heuristic device through which clubs and municipalities can consider facilities and brands as leverageable resources. The analysis is indicative rather than empirical and provides a platform for future comparative and longitudinal research into the role of regional football clubs in supporting wider development objectives.
