Managing Educational Quality in Islamic Senior High Schools: Academic Character Integration through Strategic Education Management
  • Jul 1, 2026
  • Kharisma: Jurnal Administrasi dan Manajemen Pendidikan
  • Sri Haningsih + 5 more

This study examines how Islamic Senior High Schools (Madrasah Aliyah) in Indonesia manage educational quality by systematically integrating academic achievement and character formation through the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) cycle within Total Quality Management (TQM) frameworks. Unlike previous research treating character education as supplementary, this study positions it as strategic management. Using a qualitative multiple-case study design, data were collected from three State Islamic Senior High Schools through interviews, observations, focus groups, and document analysis. The study investigated PDCA implementation in each school and patterns across institutional contexts. Findings reveal three management models: (1) structural-regulative (MAN X), emphasizing discipline through strict SOPs; (2) community-collaborative (MAN Y), integrating pesantren culture and parental involvement; and (3) innovation-capacity oriented (MAN Z), cultivating literacy and 21st-century skills. Cross-case analysis shows all schools applied PDCA principles—strategic planning (Plan), consistent implementation (Do), integrated evaluation (Check), and improvement (Act). Educational quality in faith-based schools is enhanced when academic and character dimensions are embedded throughout the management cycle. This research demonstrates how TQM-PDCA frameworks can be contextualized for faith-based schools in developing countries and identifies critical gaps in quality systems that require strengthening.

From waste to wellness: unlocking pharmacy efficiency through Lean management and staff satisfaction.
  • Jun 30, 2026
  • Journal of health organization and management
  • T P Neenu + 3 more

This study aims to examine the impact of Lean management awareness and implementation (LMAI) on operational efficiency (efficiency improvements from Lean practices [EILP]) within hospital pharmacy services by exploring the mediating role of staff satisfaction with Lean management (SSLM) and the influence of challenges in adapting to Lean processes (CALP). The study intends to provide empirical insights into the interrelationships among Lean practices, employee perceptions and organizational performance, grounded in socio-technical systems (STS) theory and total quality management (TQM). A quantitative research design was adopted for this study, utilizing a structured questionnaire. Data were collected from 170 pharmacy professionals working in various hospitals in Thrissur, Kerala, selected through purposive sampling. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS and SmartPLS 4.0. The analysis included descriptive statistics, reliability and validity assessments, and structural equation modeling (SEM) to examine direct, mediating and moderating relationships among the variables. The results demonstrate that operational efficiency and staff satisfaction significantly improve with higher Lean awareness and implementation. SSLM partially mediates the relationship between LMAI and EILP, indicating that social engagement reinforces the technical benefits of Lean. However, CALP did not significantly moderate this relationship. The findings confirm that sustainable efficiency and medication safety are achieved through alignment of Lean technical tools and social-cultural factors. Although the study was conducted across multiple hospitals, the findings are limited to a single geographic region, which may affect their generalizability. Hospital administrators should prioritize structured Lean awareness programs, continuous staff training and participative decision-making to enhance pharmacy efficiency. Embedding Lean performance indicators into governance systems and linking them to staff appraisal can sustain improvements. Strengthening leadership support and employee engagement ensures long-term operational efficiency and improved patient safety outcomes. The study highlights that strengthening Lean awareness and staff satisfaction in hospital pharmacies enhances service reliability, reduces medication errors and promotes patient safety, thereby improving overall healthcare quality and community trust. This study extends Lean healthcare research by empirically integrating awareness, staff satisfaction and adaptation challenges within a socio-technical framework in Indian hospital pharmacies, offering a behavioral explanation for operational efficiency beyond traditional process-based analyses.

  • Juhi Kamra + 3 more

Purpose Due to the incessant focus on climate change, international, regulatory, and social pressures are compelling organizations to adopt green supply chain management practices (GSCPs). This study analyzes the impact of a holistic set of Green Supply Chain Management (GSCM) practices including Internal Environment Management (IEM), Green Purchasing (GP), Cooperation with Customers (CC), Eco-Design (ED), Investment Recovery (IR), Reverse Logistics (RL), Green Distribution (GD), and Green Warehousing (GW) on sustainability performance (SP) constituting environmental, economic, and social performance. This investigation draws on the Natural-Resource-Based-view, which presents GSCM as a strategic capability that leads to Competitive Advantage (CA), which in turn leads to SP. Therefore, it examines the mediation of CA between GSCM & SP. In addition, the moderating role of Total Quality Management (TQM) is also examined. Design/methodology/approach 392 experts from the Indian manufacturing industry were surveyed, and the data were analyzed using PLS-SEM through SmartPLS. Findings The findings suggest that a holistic set of GSCM practices positively impacts EVP, ECP, & SCP with partial mediation of CA, and an absence of moderation of TQM. Originality/Value The study extends the previous literature by considering a broader spectrum of GSCPs. Moreover, this study examined the moderation of TQM between GSCM & SP, which has rarely been analyzed previously. Implications: This study strengthens NRBV theory and directs managers and policymakers about the positive impacts of GSCM.

This study examines the impact of board structure on the innovation investment intensity of Vietnamese commercial banks over the period 2010–2023 using the generalized method of moments (GMM). The results show that board size, board independence, gender diversity, and foreign board representation are positively and significantly associated with innovation investment intensity. In addition, the negative coefficient on CEO gender indicates that banks led by female CEOs tend to exhibit relatively higher innovation investment intensity than those led by male CEOs. Although prior studies have examined the governance–innovation nexus, evidence on how specific board characteristics shape innovation investment intensity in the banking sector remains limited. This study contributes to the literature by providing some of the first evidence on the association between board structure and innovation investment intensity in Vietnamese commercial banks. The findings highlight the importance of board structure as a governance mechanism in promoting banks’ innovation-oriented investment decisions and offer practical implications for bank managers seeking to enhance business excellence through the implementation of Total Quality Management.

Financial Accountability Practices on Service Delivery in Level 5 County Referral Hospitals in Kenya: The Moderating Role of Leadership Styles
  • May 3, 2026
  • Journal of Finance and Accounting
  • Mbuba Susan Kambura + 2 more

Service delivery in Kenya’s county referral hospitals remains uneven despite ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening fiscal discipline and governance. Financial accountability practices, particularly transparency, compliance with financial regulations, and adherence to reporting standards, play a critical role in enhancing institutional performance. These practices are primarily underpinned by Agency Theory, which explains the need for oversight mechanisms to align the actions of hospital management (agents) with public and government expectations (principals), thereby preventing the misuse of resources and enhancing accountability. This perspective is reinforced by Institutional Theory, which emphasizes adherence to regulatory frameworks and norms, and Total Quality Management Theory, which links accountability processes to continuous improvement and service quality. This study examined the influence of financial accountability practices on service delivery in Level 5 county referral hospitals in Kenya, while also evaluating the moderating influence of leadership styles. A descriptive and quantitative research design was adopted. The target population comprised all 47 county referral hospitals, stratified across Kenya’s eight administrative regions. A sample of 148 respondents from hospital management teams was selected using stratified random sampling. Data were collected using structured questionnaires, and the questionnaires' validity and reliability were confirmed through pilot testing, expert review, and Cronbach’s alpha. Data analysis involved descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation, and multiple regression, complemented by diagnostic tests. Findings revealed that financial accountability practices significantly influence service delivery outcomes, with leadership styles strengthening this relationship. The study concluded that robust accountability frameworks, reinforced by effective leadership, are essential for enhancing service delivery quality in county referral hospitals.

From Compliance to Transformation: Assessing the Implementation of Total Quality Management in African Universities
  • Apr 27, 2026
  • East African Journal of Education Studies
  • Robert Agwot Komakech + 4 more

This article redefines Total Quality Management (TQM) in African universities from merely a compliance tool to a transformative institutional philosophy that enhances teaching, research, community engagement and governance. Using an integrative literature review, the article combines conceptual, policy and empirical studies on TQM, ISO 9001:2015, the EFQM Excellence Model, the Quality Management in Education model and African quality assurance frameworks such as the African Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance (ASG-QA) and the African Quality Rating Mechanism (AQRM). Thematic analysis indicates that transformational TQM in African higher education relies on leadership commitment, cross-departmental collaboration, institutional learning, data-driven decision-making and the adaptation of global quality models to local contexts. The review also highlights that quality reforms often fail when they are reduced to routine audits, excessive paperwork, symbolic compliance and externally imposed accountability. The article contends that African universities are more likely to benefit from TQM’s developmental potential when continental frameworks, national regulations and internal quality systems are aligned toward continuous improvement rather than just inspection. It concludes with a context-sensitive framework and practical recommendations for university leaders, quality assurance agencies and policymakers aiming to cultivate a sustainable culture of quality in African higher education

  • Md Faiaz Zaman Dehan + 2 more

Purpose This paper aims to examine the effect of Artificial Intelligence Capabilities (AIC) on Smart Manufacturing Performance (SMP) and, specifically, industry 4.0. It seeks to find out the mediating roles of Lean Six Sigma (LSS), Digital Twin Practices (DTP) and Total Quality Management (TQM) based on the Dynamic Capabilities View (DCV). Design/methodology/approach To gather information, the study took an empirical approach (survey) of 344 employees of medium to large Ready-Made Garment (RMG) firms in Bangladesh. In testing the direct and indirect effects of AIC on SMP, emphasis was put on testing the three mediators using Partial Least Squares-Structural Equation Modeling. Findings The findings indicate that AIC has a lot of influence on SMP either directly or indirectly via the mediating variables of DTP, LSS and TQM. Such operational structures can be used to convert the intelligence of AI as data into quantifiable promotions in terms of responsiveness, quality and flexibility in processes. Research limitations/implications The participants of the study are restricted to the RMG sector in Bangladesh, and this factor can limit generalizability. It might be possible to conduct such research in different industries, locations and contexts. Originality/value In this paper, the DCV is expanded to demonstrate how, when integrated into well-designed systems of improvement, AI can be viewed as a dynamic organizational capability rather than just one of the tools. It offers a process-oriented description of the role of digital transformation in manufacturing excellence in emerging economies.
