Comprehensive Evaluation of Decellularized Dental Pulp as a New Biomaterial for Regeneration of the Pulp-Dentin Complex

Objective: To develop a detergent-enzymatic method and evaluate the quality of a decellularized pulp scaffold for regenerative endodontics.Materials and methods: Biomaterial and mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) were derived from dental pulp that was obtained following third molar extraction indicated for orthodontic reasons in patients aged 14-18 years. The detergent-enzymatic method enabled to obtain a decellularized scaffold from pulp samples. The proliferative activity and viability of dental pulp-derived MSCs were assessed using trypan blue staining and XTT assay. To assess tissue response, Wistar rats underwent subcutaneous implantation of native and decellularized dental pulp. Explanted samples were stained with hematoxylin-eosin on days 7 and 14.Results: The detergent-enzymatic treatment of the dental pulp demonstrated the absence of nuclear material, whereas the histoarchitecture of the dental pulp was disturbed. The DNA content in the sample of the decellularized scaffold was 22.79 ± 2.1 ng/mg of tissue; the amount of DNA in the native sample was 78.5 ± 5.4 ng/mg of tissue. According to XTT assay results, no cytotoxicity of the decellularized scaffold against MSCs was found. Biopsy specimens of the rats with implanted decellularized dental pulp were characterized by no signs of inflammation.Conclusions: The study results will enable to create a biomaterial that can be the base of a tissue-engineered structure of the dental pulp and be used for the regeneration of the pulp-dentin complex.

Application of biomedical cell products in the treatment of congenital epidermolysis bullosa

Congenital epidermolysis bullosa is a phenotypically and genetically heterogeneous group of genodermatoses, which which is clinically manifested by the development of blisters on the skin and mucous membranes after mechanical injury. The presence of long-term erosive and ulcerative defects in patients with congenital epidermolysis bullosa reduces the quality of patients` life and also leads to malignancy of the lesions, as a result of constant stimulation of regenerative processes.Currently, there are a lot of publications describing the use of skin substitutes, three-dimensional tissue-engineered structures based on auto- and allogeneic cells that promote rapid epithelization of wounds in patients with congenital epidermolysis bullosa. The most prospective and at the same time the least studied direction of congenital epidermolysis bullosa treatment is the use of a combined skin equivalent created on the basis of keratinocytes and fibroblasts, which mixes the advantages of epidermal and dermal grafts.

Numerical Simulation of the Diffusion of Electroactive Molecule in Biosimilar Hydrogel Media

Based on experimental data of cyclic voltammetry, the values of the diffusion coefficients for toluidine blue in alginate hydrogel, gelatine hydrogel and alginate-gelatine hydrogels were obtained. Using the experimental values of the coefficients in a numerical model, the values of the recovery of flows have been calculated showing them consistent with what was the experimental. It is proposed to use the period in time during which the value of the flow force reaches the value of steady state flow force as an indicator of the diffusion properties of the hydrogel medium. The findings of this study can be used for the development of methods for the evaluation of the diffusion properties of hydrogel media: bioinks and tissue-engineered structures.

Self-Adhesive and Self-Sustainable Bioelectronic Patch for Physiological Feedback Electronic Modulation of Soft Organs.

Bionic electrical stimulation (Bio-ES) aims to achieve personalized therapy and proprioceptive adaptation by mimicking natural neural signatures of the body, while current Bio-ES devices are reliant on complex sensing and computational simulation systems, thus often limited by the low-fidelity of simulated electrical signals, and failure of interface information interaction due to the mechanical mismatch between soft tissues and rigid electrodes. Here, the study presents a flexible and ultrathin self-sustainable bioelectronic patch (Bio-patch), which can self-adhere to the lesion area of organs and generate bionic electrical signals synchronized vagal nerve envelope in situ to implement Bio-ES. It allows adaptive adjustment of intensity, frequency, and waveform of the Bio-ES to fully meet personalized needs of tissue regeneration based on real-time feedback from the vagal neural controlled organs. With this foundation, the Bio-patch can effectively intervene with excessive fibrosis and microvascular stasis during the natural healing process by regulating the polarization time of macrophages, promoting the reconstruction of the tissue-engineered structure, and accelerating the repair of damaged liver and kidney. This work develops a practical approach to realize biomimetic electronic modulation of the growth and development of soft organs only using a multifunctional Bio-patch, which establishes a new paradigm for precise bioelectronic medicine.

Design and evaluation of a bilayered dermal/hypodermal 3D model using a biomimetic hydrogel formulation

Due to the limitations of the current skin wound treatments, it is highly valuable to have a wound healing formulation that mimics the extracellular matrix (ECM) and mechanical properties of natural skin tissue. Here, a novel biomimetic hydrogel formulation has been developed based on a mixture of Agarose-Collagen Type I (AC) combined with skin ECM-related components: Dermatan sulfate (DS), Hyaluronic acid (HA), and Elastin (EL) for its application in skin tissue engineering (TE). Different formulations were designed by combining AC hydrogels with DS, HA, and EL. Cell viability, hemocompatibility, physicochemical, mechanical, and wound healing properties were investigated. Finally, a bilayered hydrogel loaded with fibroblasts and mesenchymal stromal cells was developed using the Ag-Col I-DS-HA-EL (ACDHE) formulation. The ACDHE hydrogel displayed the best in vitro results and acceptable physicochemical properties. Also, it behaved mechanically close to human native skin and exhibited good cytocompatibility. Environmental scanning electron microscopy (ESEM) analysis revealed a porous microstructure that allows the maintenance of cell growth and ECM-like structure production. These findings demonstrate the potential of the ACDHE hydrogel formulation for applications such as an injectable hydrogel or a bioink to create cell-laden structures for skin TE.

Rationale of using magnetically sensitive biomaterials in bone tissue therapy: a review

INTRODUCTION. Currently, new biomaterials are being intensively developed to improve the efficiency of repair of damage to hard and soft tissues. New approaches and methods for functionalizing biomaterials have been proposed. One such method is the use of magnetic nanoparticles. This approach is new and still little studied, however, the annual increase in the number of publications on this topic indicates the promise of studying the osteogenic effect of magnetic nanoparticles. AIM. To summarize the results of current research devoted to studying the effect of magnetically sensitive biomaterials on the functional activity of cells involved in the reparation of bone tissue damage. MATERIALS AND METHODS. A literature review was conducted using the databases PubMed and Scopus. Keywords used to conduct the search: electromagnetic field, magnetic nanoparticles, biomaterials, osteoinduction, bone regeneration. Request dates: February-March 2024, publication period 2000–2024 years. MAIN CONTENT. New approaches and methods for functionalizing biomaterials have been proposed. One such approach is the use of magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs). Traditionally, in medicine, MNPs are used as a contrast agent to improve the visualization of cancer tumors; in addition, MNPs can act as a matrix in targeted drug delivery systems and in hyperthermic therapy of cancer tumors. New experimental data show that the use of MNPs as a magnetically sensitive component in biomaterials is a promising way to stimulate the repair of bone defects and fractures. It has been shown that biomaterials modified by nanoparticles stimulate osteogenic differentiation of stem cells, increase proliferative activity and secretion of extracellular matrix proteins by bone cells. CONCLUSION. Integration of MNPs with organic and synthetic polymers, and other biomimetic constructs is a promising direction for creating osteogenic biomaterials for medical use, including those aimed at increasing the efficiency of regeneration of bone defects. The use of magnetically sensitive biomaterials makes it possible to create “smart” tissue-engineered structures controlled by external electromagnetic stimulus.

Experimental replacement of various bladder volumes with allogeneic tissue-engineered constructions

The results of experimental replacement of the bladder wall up to subtotal using multicomponent tissue-engineered structures are presented. Purpose. Development and experimental use of a tissue-engineered structure for replacing various volumes of the bladder wall. Material and methods. The original poly-L,L-lactide matrix is reinforced with silk fibroin. Mesenchymal cells were introduced into the constructs. 6 intact animals underwent filling cystometry. The maximum cystometric capacity was 11.2±0.97 ml. In these same 6 animals, the anesthetic capacity of the bladder was measured, which was 23.83±0.71 ml. 36 animals underwent reconstruction of the bladder using a prepared tissue-engineered construct after resection of the corresponding volume of the organ. Groups of 9 animals received bladder volumes of 5, 10, 15 and 20 ml. The observation period was 3 months. Results: According to computed tomography of the abdominal and pelvic organs (native study and with intravesical administration of a radiocontrast agent), 4, 8, 12 weeks after surgery, a bladder of physiological capacity is determined in all study groups, the implanted structure is visualized as a hyperintense signal in area of the apex of the bladder. no leakage of contrast agent is detected. Filling cystometry in 2 animals that underwent replacement of 20 ml of bladder volume (subtotal replacement) after 12 weeks showed that the capacity of the formed reservoir correlates with preoperative parameters. Macroscopically, the anastomosis zone is consistent in all groups of animals, the tissue-engineered structure is determined at the implantation site, lysis of the structure is noted by 12 weeks of observation with the preservation of small residual fragments at the implantation site. Conclusion. The experimental use of the developed tissue-engineered multicomponent structure turned out to be effective for replacing defects of the bladder wall of various volumes up to subtotal reconstruction. Further study of technologies for the use of tissue-engineered allogeneic constructs can significantly improve the results of treatment of urological pathologies for which obtaining autologous material is not possible.

Effect of Phytic Acid Addition on the Structure of Collagen-Hyaluronic Acid Composite Gel.

Composite collagen gels with hyaluronic acid are developed tissue-engineered structures for filling and regeneration of defects in various organs and tissues. For the first time, phytic acid was used to increase the stability and improve the mechanical properties of collagen gels with hyaluronic acid. Phytic acid is a promising cross-linker for collagen hydrogels and is a plant-derived antioxidant found in rich sources of beans, grains, and oilseeds. Phytic acid has several benefits due to its antioxidant, anticancer, and antitumor properties. In this work, studies were carried out on the kinetics of the self-assembly of collagen molecules in the presence of phytic and hyaluronic acids. It was shown that both of these acids do not lead to collagen self-assembly. Scanning electron microscopy showed that in the presence of phytic and hyaluronic acids, the collagen fibrils had a native structure, and the FTIR method confirmed the chemical cross-links between the collagen fibrils. DSC and rheological studies demonstrated that adding the phytic acid improved the stability and modulus of elasticity of the collagen gel. The presence of hyaluronic acid in the collagen gel slightly reduced the effect of phytic acid. The presence of phytic acid in the collagen gel improved the stability of the scaffold, but, after 1 week of cultivation, slightly reduced the viability of mesenchymal stromal cells cultured in the gel. The collagen type I gel with hyaluronic and phytic acids can be used to replace tissue defects, especially after the removal of cancerous tumors.

3D Printing of a Tissue-Engineered Structure Intended to Replace Cartilage Defects

This article describes the process of developing a tissue-engineered structure that meets the biocompatibility and biodegradation parameters necessary for replacing cartilage tissue defects. The study was carried out using 3D bioprinting technology, which represents a promising research direction in the biomedical field. It is known that, due to the specifics of its structure, cartilage tissue is not capable of complete regeneration of damage. The methods currently used for treating arthrosis are associated with a number of limitations and disadvantages, which makes research aimed at developing alternative methods for arthrosis treatment particularly relevant. The development of tissue-engineered structures by 3D bioprinting requires the materials not only certified for medical use but also exhibiting biocompatibility and biodegradation properties. Polylactide (PLA) and sodium alginate satisfy the above requirements; moreover, their availability and economic affordability make them one of the most popular materials for 3D bioprinting.

Biological Approaches to Bone Regeneration: Innovations and Clinical Implications

In orthopaedics, bone regeneration is still a major difficulty that calls for creative solutions for efficient tissue repair. Modern biological techniques, such as scaffolds, growth factors, tissue engineering, and their therapeutic applications in bone regeneration, are examined in this study. Growth factors—in particular, platelet-derived growth factors (PDGFs) and bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs)—are essential for promoting osteogenesis and improving bone regeneration. Clinical settings have shown their therapeutic potential; nonetheless, there are ideal doses, administration modalities, and safety profiles to take into account. With their exact designs and variety of biomaterials, scaffolds provide structural support and foster the cellular activity that is essential for bone repair. The functioning and interactions between cells and scaffolds are improved by a variety of manufacturing approaches, including 3D bioprinting and surface changes. Tissue engineering techniques combine scaffolds, cells, and signalling molecules to create useful tissue constructions for bone mending. In tissue-engineered structures, the integration of growth factors and mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) exhibit potential for augmenting osteogenesis. Clinical applications provide a variety of settings for regenerative therapies, including fracture healing, non-unions, and significant bone defects. However, obstacles to their wider clinical application include safety assurance, scalability, regulatory compliance, effectiveness validation, and personalised therapy. By tackling these obstacles with thorough investigation and translational work, novel biological strategies to improve bone regeneration treatments will become possible.

Control of Biofilm and Virulence in Pseudomonas aeruginosa by Green-Synthesized Titanium–Cerium Nanocomposites

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) has become a critical global health challenge. Infections, particularly those caused by multidrug-resistant (MDR) pathogens, rank among the top causes of human mortality worldwide. Pseudomonas aeruginosa occupies a prominent position among pathogens responsible for opportunistic infections in humans. P. aeruginosa stands as a primary cause of chronic respiratory infections, significantly contributing to the burden of these chronic diseases. In the medical domain, nanotechnologies offer significant potential, spanning various applications, including advanced imaging, diagnostic devices, drug delivery systems, implants, tissue-engineered structures, and pharmaceutical treatments. Given the challenges associated with AMR and the limited discovery of new drugs to combat MDR microbes, there is a critical need for alternative strategies to address the problem of AMR. In this study, we synthesized titanium–cerium nanocomposites (Ti–Ce–NCs) using an eco-friendly green synthesis approach. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis confirmed the crystalline nature of the Ti–Ce–NCs and determined the particle size to be 17.07 nm. Electron microscopy revealed the size range of the particles to be 13 to 54 nm, where the majority of the particles were in the 20 to 25 nm range. Upon examining the composition, the Ti–Ce–NCs were determined to be composed of cerium, oxygen, and titanium, whose relative abundance were 36.86, 36.6, and 24.77% by weight, respectively. These nanocomposites were then evaluated for their effectiveness against various virulent traits and biofilms in P. aeruginosa. Out of six tested virulence factors, more than 50% inhibition of five virulence factors of P. aeruginosa was found. Roughly 60% inhibition of biofilm was also found in the presence of 400 µg/mL Ti–Ce–NCs. The nanocomposites also altered the biofilm architecture of the test bacterium. The success of this research opens doors for the potential use of such nanomaterials in the discovery of new antibacterial agents to combat drug-resistant bacteria.

Photoluminescent Scaffolds Based on Natural and Synthetic Biodegradable Polymers for Bioimaging and Tissue Engineering.

Non-invasive visualization and monitoring of tissue-engineered structures in a living organism is a challenge. One possible solution to this problem is to use upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs) as photoluminescent nanomarkers in scaffolds. We synthesized and studied scaffolds based on natural (collagen-COL and hyaluronic acid-HA) and synthetic (polylactic-co-glycolic acids-PLGA) polymers loaded with β-NaYF4:Yb3+, Er3+ nanocrystals (21 ± 6 nm). Histomorphological analysis of tissue response to subcutaneous implantation of the polymer scaffolds in BALB/c mice was performed. The inflammatory response of the surrounding tissues was found to be weak for scaffolds based on HA and PLGA and moderate for COL scaffolds. An epi-luminescent imaging system with 975 nm laser excitation was used for in vivo visualization and photoluminescent analysis of implanted scaffolds. We demonstrated that the UCNPs' photoluminescent signal monotonously decreased in all the examined scaffolds, indicating their gradual biodegradation followed by the release of photoluminescent nanoparticles into the surrounding tissues. In general, the data obtained from the photoluminescent analysis correlated satisfactorily with the histomorphological analysis.

Development of Method for Three-Dimensional Cultivation of Human Mesenchymal Stem/Stromal Cells Using Cellulose Scaffolds

The development of methods for culturing cells in three-dimensional systems is an urgent focus of modern cell biology. When cultured in the 3D system, a tissue-specific architecture is reproduced and the real microenvironment and cell behavior in vivo are more precisely recreated. Human mesenchymal stem/stromal cells (MSCs) are typically isolated and cultured as a monolayer 2D culture. In this work, we developed a method for three-dimensional cultivation and tissue-specific decidual differentiation of MSCs isolated from human endometrial tissue using a matrix derived from decellularized apple. Decellularized apple matrices have sufficient mechanical strength, are biocompatible, accessible, easy to use, and have ample scope for surface modification. This cell culture system is suitable for both confocal microscopy and flow cytometry studies. The model we developed can become the basis for the creation of new cell products and tissue-engineering structures in the field of regenerative biomedicine.

Subtotal replacement of the bladder with tissue-engineered structures using allogeneic mesenchymal cells in an experiment

The article presents the results of bladder reconstruc-tion up to subtotal replacement using multicomponent tissue-engineered structures in an experiment. Aim:Experimental subtotal bladder replacement using a tis-sue-engineered construction. Materials and methods: The authors used a poly-L,L-lactide matrix as a scaffold; it was developed in early experiments, reinforced with silk fibroin and seeded with allogeneic mesenchymal stem cells. A filling cystometry was performed in 6 intact ani-mals to determine the maximum cystometric and anes-thetic capacity of the bladder. The maximum cystometric capacity was 11.2±0.97 ml, the anesthetic capacity was 23.83±0.71 ml. 36 animals underwent resection of vari-ous volumes of the bladder, followed by reconstruction of the organ using a prepared tissue-engineered con-struct of the appropriate volume. Groups of 9 animals were formed, depending on the volume of reconstruc-tion: 5 ml, 10 ml, 15 ml and 20 ml. The observation period was 3 months. Results: 4, 8, and 12 weeks after surgery, according to computed tomography of the abdominal and pelvic organs with intravesical injection of X-ray con-trast agent, no leaks of contrast agent were observed. The implanted structure in the form of a hyperintense signal is located in the area of the apex of the bladder. The pre-served physiological capacity of the bladder was deter-mined in all study groups. In 2 animals that underwent subtotal replacement (20 ml volume) of the bladder after 12 weeks, filling cystometry confirmed the correlation of the physiological capacity of the formed reservoir with preoperative parameters. Macroscopically, the anasto-mosis zone is consistent in all groups of animals; by the 12th week of observation, lysis of the tissue-engineered structure is noted with the preservation of small residual fragments. Conclusion: The experimental application of the developed tissue-engineering multicomponent scaf-fold proved to be effective for replacing various bladder wall defects up to subtotal reconstruction. Further study of technologies for the use of tissue-engineered alloge-neic constructs can significantly improve the results of treatment of urological pathologies, in which it is not possible to obtain autologous material

TISSUE-ENGINEERED BONE IMPLANTS FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF JAWBONE DEFECTS. LITERATURE REVIEW

The purpose of the study:to trace the development of methods of bone implants for the replacement of jawbone defects: from ceramic and polymeric scaffolds to complex tissue-engineered structures with stem cells, growth factors and vascular anastomoses based on literature data.Materials and methods:searching, systematization and analysis of scientific data on various types of 3D-printed bone implants and their effectiveness in replacing bone defects.Conclusions:Modern technologies of 3D-printing, cell and tissue engineering, microvascular surgical techniques closely approach scientists and clinicians to creation of an artificial bone implant which in the body must become a living structure capable of integrating with the patient’s bone. Only complex approach which includes reconstruction of the implant of individual shape and sufficient mechanical strength, giving of osteoinductive and osteogenic properties, providing of internal axial and external angiogenesis is the basis for such tissue-engineered construction.

Cryostorage of Mesenchymal Stem Cells and Biomedical Cell-Based Products.

Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) manifest vast opportunities for clinical use due both to their ability for self-renewal and for effecting paracrine therapeutic benefits. At the same time, difficulties with non-recurrent generation of large numbers of cells due to the necessity for long-term MSC expansion ex vivo, or the requirement for repeated sampling of biological material from a patient significantly limits the current use of MSCs in clinical practice. One solution to these problems entails the creation of a biobank using cell cryopreservation technology. This review is aimed at analyzing and classifying literature data related to the development of protocols for the cryopreservation of various types of MSCs and tissue-engineered structures. The materials in the review show that the existing techniques and protocols for MSC cryopreservation are very diverse, which significantly complicates standardization of the entire process. Here, the selection of cryoprotectors and of cryoprotective media shows the greatest variability. Currently, it is the cryopreservation of cell suspensions that has been studied most extensively, whereas there are very few studies in the literature on the freezing of intact tissues or of tissue-engineered structures. However, even now it is possible to develop general recommendations to optimize the cryopreservation process, making it less traumatic for cells.

Facile Fabrication of Transparent and Opaque Albumin Methacryloyl Gels with Highly Improved Mechanical Properties and Controlled Pore Structures.

For porous protein scaffolds to be employed in tissue-engineered structures, the development of cost-effective, macroporous, and mechanically improved protein-based hydrogels, without compromising the original properties of native protein, is crucial. Here, we introduced a facile method of albumin methacryloyl transparent hydrogels and opaque cryogels with adjustable porosity and improved mechanical characteristics via controlling polymerization temperatures (room temperature and −80 °C). The structural, morphological, mechanical, and physical characteristics of both porous albumin methacryloyl biomaterials were investigated using FTIR, CD, SEM, XRD, compression tests, TGA, and swelling behavior. The biodegradation and biocompatibility of the various gels were also carefully examined. Albumin methacryloyl opaque cryogels outperformed their counterpart transparent hydrogels in terms of mechanical characteristics and interconnecting macropores. Both materials demonstrated high mineralization potential as well as good cell compatibility. The solvation and phase separation owing to ice crystal formation during polymerization are attributed to the transparency of hydrogels and opacity of cryogels, respectively, suggesting that two fully protein-based hydrogels could be used as visible detectors/sensors in medical devices or bone regeneration scaffolds in the future.

Surface channel patterned and endothelialized poly(glycerol sebacate) based elastomers.

Prevascularization of tissue equivalents is critical for fulfilling the need for sufficient vascular organization for nutrient and gas transport. Hence, endothelial cell culture on biomaterials is of great importance for researchers. Numerous alternate strategies have been suggested in this sense, with cell-based methods being the most commonly employed. In this study, poly (glycerol sebacate) (PGS) elastomers with varying crosslinking ratios were synthesized and their surfaces were patterned with channels by using laser ablation technique. In order to determine an ideal material for cell culture studies, the elastomers were subsequently mechanically, chemically, and biologically characterized. Following that, human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) were seeded into the channels established on the PGS membranes and cultured under various culture conditions to establish the optimal culture parameters. Lastly, the endothelial cell responses to the synthesized PGS elastomers were evaluated. Remarkable cell proliferation and impressive cellular organizations were noticed on the constructs created as part of the investigation. On the concrete output of this research, arrangements in various geometries can be created by laser ablation method and the effects of various molecules, drugs or agents on endothelial cells can be evaluated. The platforms produced can be employed as an intermediate biomaterial layer containing endothelial cells for vascularization of tissue-engineered structures, particularly in layer-by-layer tissue engineering approaches.

Primary results of replacement the experimental hyaline cartilage defect with human fibroblast cell culture

The hyaline cartilage damage problem is actual, but existing recovery methods are not fully sufficient. A promising solution of this problem can be the implantation of a tissue-engineered structure (TEC), consisting of a cell culture and a biodegradable scaffold. In this experiment we created a construct consisting of a polylactide scaffold and a human dermal fibroblasts culture. After implantation of TEC in the modeled defect area we analyzed the experimental group regeneration results in comparison to the control group.

Aspects of In Vitro Biodegradation of Hybrid Fibrin-Collagen Scaffolds.

The success of the regenerative process resulting from the implantation of a scaffold or a tissue-engineered structure into damaged tissues depends on a series of factors, including, crucially, the biodegradability of the implanted materials. The selection of a scaffold with appropriate biodegradation characteristics allows for synchronization of the degradation of the construct with the processes involved in new tissue formation. Thus, it is extremely important to characterize the biodegradation properties of potential scaffold materials at the stage of in vitro studies. We have analyzed the biodegradation of hybrid fibrin–collagen scaffolds in both PBS solution and in trypsin solution and this has enabled us to describe the processes of both their passive and enzymatic degradation. It was found that the specific origin of the collagen used to form part of the hybrid scaffolds could have a significant effect on the nature of the biodegradation process. It was also established, during comparative studies of acellular scaffolds and scaffolds containing stem cells, that the cells, too, make a significant contribution to changes in the biodegradation and structural properties of such scaffolds. The study results also provided evidence indicating the dependency between the pre-cultivation period for the cellular scaffolds and the speed and extent of their subsequent biodegradation. Our discussion of results includes an attempt to explain the mechanisms of the changes found. We hope that the said results will make a significant contribution to the understanding of the processes affecting the differences in the biodegradation properties of hybrid, biopolymer, and hydrogel scaffolds.
