Thrombotic complications after radiofrequency and cyanoacrylate endovenous ablation: Outcomes of a multicenter real-world experience: Presented at the Thirty-fourth Annual Meeting of the American Venous Forum, Orlando, FL, February 23-26, 2022.

Objective: Chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) affects >40% of the U.S. population; thus, intervention for symptomatic venous disease comprises a large portion of many vascular practices. The treatment of superficial CVI has evolved from open surgical treatment to minimally invasive endovenous closure, including both thermal and nonthermal techniques. Thrombotic complications of thermal ablation have been well reported, with an overall complication rate of <2%. However, a paucity of high-powered, real-world data is available on the thrombotic outcomes of nonthermal techniques.

Severity of disease and treatment outcomes of anterior accessory great saphenous veins compared with the great saphenous vein: Presented at the Thirty-fourth Annual Meeting of American Vein and Lymphatic Society, Washington, D.C., October 15-18, 2020.

Objective Endovenous therapies are currently the standard of care for the treatment of patients with symptomatic great saphenous vein (GSV) reflux. The effectiveness and long-term outcomes of these therapies for anterior accessory great saphenous veins (AAGSVs) are poorly defined. The objective of this investigation is to determine treatment outcomes in patients with symptomatic AAGSV reflux compared with patients with symptomatic GSV reflux.

Perioperative outcomes of carotid endarterectomy and transfemoral and transcervical carotid artery stenting in radiation-induced carotid lesions: Presented at the Thirty-fourth Annual Meeting of the Eastern Vascular Society (Virtual), Weekly Program Series, October 7-November 18, 2020.

Objective Limited data are available to guide the choice of intervention for patients with radiation-induced carotid stenosis (RICS), either transcarotid artery revascularization (TCAR), transfemoral carotid artery stenting (TFCAS), or carotid endarterectomy (CEA). The purpose of the present study was to evaluate patients who had undergone these carotid artery interventions for RICS and the associated outcomes.

Resection of aortic arch aneurysms using an external shunt

Surgical treatment of aneurysms of the thoracic aorta had its beginnings in the early 1950s. At that time, thoracic aneurysms were usually due to syphilitic infection and were usually fatal. Before the development of the heartlung machine, it was realized that external shunts could facilitate the repair of these aneurysms. In 1954, Dr Ralph Alley and his colleagues at Albany Medical Center reported 2 patients who had surgical correction of thoracic aortic aneurysms using external vascular shunts. Both bovine aortic heterograft and human aortic homograft were used as aortic substitutes. These patients were presented at the Thirty-fourth Annual Meeting of the American Association for Thoracic Surgery in Montreal, Quebec, in May 1954, and case reports were subsequently published in the Journal of Thoracic Surgery in 1955. These presentations served as the stimulus for subsequent clinical studies and laboratory research, eventually leading to a better understanding of the physiologic principles involved in clamping the thoracic aorta. Doctor Alley's article is a classic in the field of cardiothoracic surgery and is now reviewed 39 years after its publication.
