Pilot therapeutic education program in multiple system atrophy: Safety, quality of life and satisfaction from a national registry based longitudinal study

BackgroundTherapeutic education programs are effective in several chronic conditions. However, evidence is lacking in multiple system atrophy (MSA). We aimed to assess efficacy and safety of a comprehensive therapeutic education program in people with MSA (PwMSA) and their caregivers. MethodsIn this prospective longitudinal study we included 16 PwMSA and their main caregivers in 4 groups of 4 dyads each. The program consisted of eight 60-min interdisciplinary sessions: introduction, orthostatic hypotension, speech therapy, gait and respiratory physiotherapy, psychological support, urinary dysfunction, occupational therapy/social work. UMSARS, NMSS, PDQ39, EQ5 and Zarit scales were administered at baseline and 6 months later. After each session participants filled-out a modified EduPark satisfaction questionnaire and a Likert scale. Educational material was generated for each session after suggestions by participants. ResultsAt baseline PwMSA and caregivers were comparable in age and sex, with significant correlation between UMSARS-IV (disability) and PDQ39 (quality of life). Adherence to sessions was of 94,92 %. Total modified EduPark scores and Likert scales did not differ in PwMSA vs. caregivers, mild-moderate vs. severe-advanced cases or between genders. The significant difference in satisfaction across sessions (p = 0.03) was driven by higher scores in speech, respiratory and occupational therapy sessions. Longitudinally there was no significant worsening in any scale, nor a significant increase post-vs. pre-program in the number of consultations. ConclusionsThe healthcare education program in MSA was feasible, satisfactory, and safe for patients and caregivers. The educational material of the program is being forwarded to incident MSA cases attending our clinic.

The influence of therapeutic education on diabetes-related distress and therapeutic adherence among patients with type 2 diabetes in Tetouan, Morocco

Introduction and aim. Diabetes-related distress is a prevalent issue that affects many patients, leading to challenges in ad hering to treatment plans and lifestyle modifications. By implementing therapeutic education programs, healthcare providers seek to enhance patients’ understanding of their condition, coping mechanisms, and treatment adherence. This study aims to explore the impact of therapeutic education on diabetes-related distress and therapeutic adherence among individuals diag nosed with type 2 diabetes. Material and methods. This quasi-experimental study involved 40 patients with type 2 diabetes receiving therapeutic educa tion during 6 Months from March 24 to September 30, 2022. Diabetes-related distress and adherence were assessed before and after the intervention using the Diabetes Distress Scale (DDS-17) and glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) levels. Results. Wilcoxon signed rank tests revealed statistically significant improvements for all measures after the intervention. Patients showed improved DDS-17 scores (p<0.001) across all dimensions, and lower HbA1c levels (p<0.001). Pre- and post-inter vention mean difference across all measures show that the greatest improvements were seen in emotional distress (1.37) and treatment-related distress (1.2). Conclusion. Therapeutic education had a positive impact on therapeutic adherence and diabetes-related distress. It should be an integral part of type 2 diabetes care protocols in Morocco.

Use of qualitative methods to optimize collaborative practices by highlighting differences in perceptions between professionals: an example of patient education

ABSTRACT Interprofessional working must be approached within health promotion interventions using systematic methods to identify areas of suboptimal collaboration. We designed a qualitative study with a purposive sample of seven French therapeutic patient education programs. Semi-structured individual interviews were conducted with 14 healthcare providers and seven clinician leaders (coordinators) involved in patient education. We used the same interview guide and thematic grid regardless of the professional’s profile to compare their perceptions on elements affecting outcome, participation and sustainability of programs. Healthcare providers and coordinators addressed non-convergent issues at both ends of a continuum from a micro-level nested in the program delivery to a macro-level corresponding to the structured implementation and sustainability of the program. Meso-level issues featured convergent perspectives. Our methodology could be used at the level of health services in a health system to provide a complete recovery of stakeholders’ perspectives (without “blind spots” from one stakeholder or another). In our study, we focused on patient education in the French health system and pointed out possible considerations to optimize the functioning of programs. Such considerations include specific training plan development, encouraging reflection on the content and use of initial assessment, leading sessions in pairs to save on work time, and communication on the ins and outs of organizational imperatives that require healthcare providers’ contributions.

Weight changes in overweight children enrolled in a therapeutic education program

BackgroundBetween 2016 and 2018, overweight children in the Midi-Pyrénées region of France were invited to participate in the Tout sur l'EQuilibre Alimentaire et l'Activité Physique (TEQAAP; All About Balanced Eating and Physical Activity) education program offered by the Structure d'Expertise Régionale Obésité Occitanie (SEROO; Regional Expert Center for Obesity in Occitanie). ObjectivesTo describe the patient population and evaluate the program efficacy. The primary criterion was the body mass index (BMI) Z-score of the patients at the end of the program compared to the beginning. MethodsThis retrospective, descriptive, and analytical study included 262 children (mean age: 10 years+10 months; 64% female) between 1 January 2016 and 31 December 2018. Data from 138 patients (52.7%) were accessible and analyzed. The mean study duration was 9 months. ResultsThe mean BMI at inclusion was 23.3 kg/m² with a mean Z-score of 2.8 ± 0.6; 82% were overweight, 11.1% were obese, and 6.1% were normal weight. Socioeconomic categories were well-balanced (35% high, 28% intermediate, 37% low). At the end of the study, 87% of the children had improved or stabilized their BMI, and Z-scores were lower by 9%±2 (p<0.001). ConclusionThe TEQAAP program led to an improvement in the BMI of overweight children.

Effectiveness of integrated education and relaxation program on migraine-related disability: a randomized controlled trial

BackgroundMigraine is one of the most disabling disorders worldwide. Globally, in 2019, headache disorders were the cause of 46.6 million years of disability, with migraine accounting for 88.2% of these. The value of integrative strategies in migraine management has been raised due to the recurrent and provoked nature of migraine. So, the current study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of implementing a therapeutic patient education and relaxation training program versus usual pharmacological treatment alone on the frequency, severity, and duration of migraine attacks as the primary outcome and migraine-related disability and quality of life as the secondary outcome. A randomized controlled trial was conducted at the specialized headache clinic of a tertiary referral center. Sixty patients were randomly assigned to intervention or control groups. Participants in the intervention arm received the education and relaxation training program and were instructed to perform daily relaxation exercises in addition to their routine pharmacological treatment, whereas the control group only received their routine treatments. Follow-up was done after 1 and 3 months using a headache diary and a migraine-specific quality of life questionnaire (MSQ).ResultAfter implementation of the program, there was a significant reduction in migraine attack severity in the intervention group compared to the control group, and they also had significantly fewer migraine headache days/month and duration of migraine attacks compared to patients in the control group. Statistically significant improvement in the role-function restrictive, role-function preventive, and emotional function domains of MSQ.ConclusionAn integrated migraine management program has a significant effect on reducing the burden of migraine attacks and improving the daily activities of migraine sufferers.

Documenting experiential knowledge on harm reduction to improve support for alcohol users in France

Abstract Background Experimentations in France referring to the harm-reduction paradigm aim to deliver more efficient support to vulnerable alcohol consumers who don't look for consumption cessation. They take place both in healthcare (addictology centers) and social care facilities. Harm-reduction applied to alcohol use (HRA) cause debates within scientific and policy-making communities. Yet, few research details what innovating HRA interventions (HRAI) offer and how they work. The project SeRra (2020-2022) aimed to capitalize - i.e. to collect, document and circulate - experiential knowledge from field practitioners on HRAI to bridge that gap. Methods Steered by a multidisciplinary committee, SeRra followed 7 steps: 1/ identify and select HRAI nationwide; 2/ meet with practitioners for in-depth interviews on HRAI (development, implementation, effects); 3/ analyze, 4/ write and 5/ publish a capitalization form per HRAI. We 6/ drafted a cross-case analysis, 7/ debated with experts and practitioners, to formulate practice and policy recommendations. Results We capitalized 28 HRAI, including: projects of drug-use centers, emergency housing, specialized social work teams, new therapeutic education programs, etc. Projects often combined implementing institutional and organizational changes to align with HRA, with offering improved one-to-one support, and advocacy for HRA. HRAI improved wellness scores and access to prevention and care. Ultimately, HRAI improved empowerment and inclusion of vulnerable alcohol users. We identified levers and barriers to implement HRA practices. We formulated recommendations to keep improving HRA individual support methods and evaluation. More practitioners shall access training to gain relevant HRA skills. Conclusions Successful HRAI experiences during Covid lockdowns drove French authorities to support further dissemination of HRAI. capitalization forms circulating among practitioners and recommendations in our final report benefit implementation efforts. Key messages • New harm-reduction approaches improve access to care and inclusion of vulnerable alcohol consumers. SeRra details experiences in social &amp; medical settings and offers insights on dissemination levers. • Attention must be brought to experiential knowledge as it proves useful to improve professional practices. SeRra confronts experiential knowledge and expertise to further innovation and dissemination.

Effects of therapeutic patient education program on glycemic control and quality of life among children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes mellitus in Fez city, Morocco.

Type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) is a chronic disease, mainly observed in children or youth, with a significantly increased incidence in young children. Structured therapeutic patient education (TPE) is a must to help them manage their disease effectively and lead a healthy lifestyle. This study aimed to assess the effects of a structured TPE program on glycemic markers and quality of life (QOL) of T1DM children and adolescents in Fez city, Morocco. It is a quasi-experimental study. One hundred T1DM children and adolescents, aged 8-18, participated in a TPE intervention at the pediatric department in a hospital center in Fez, Morocco. Glycemic markers were measured and QOL was assessed by a validated questionnaire. Parametric and nonparametric tests were used and statistical significance determined by P < 0.05. At 3 months' follow-up, both global and dimensional QOL mean scores improved significantly (P ≤ 0.0001), whereas glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) decreased (10.28% vs. 10.62%), tough with no statistical significance (P = 0.160). Furthermore, a significant improvement was observed in the maximum preprandial (2, 11 g/L [1.51-2.58] vs. 2, 37 g/L [1.81-3.21], P = 0.001) and postprandial blood glucose levels (2, 50 g/L [1.90-3.27] vs. 2, 95 g/L [2.07-3.99], P = 0.001) after 3 months; with no significant change in their minimum. Although this TPE intervention was more effective in improving patients' QOL than their HbA1c, it is worth striving to implement regular TPE programs for T1DM pediatric patients and adjust them to achieve a better patients' glycemic markers levels.

Quelle formation des savoirs sur le cancer et la chimiothérapie orale en contexte d’ETP ? Apports d’une approche psychosociale articulée à un dispositif de triangulation méthodologique

IntroductionThis article aims to consider the experience of cancer treated by oral chemotherapy as a frame for investigating the construction and the transmission of knowledge related to illness and treatment in the context of therapeutic patient education. This work is based on a doctoral thesis carried out in Social and health Psychology in which we investigated, according to a socio-constructivist approach, the contexts and the circumstances in which patients’ knowledge are assimilated and mobilized. MethodBased on field research conducted in a Rhone-Alpes university hospital center, we led two qualitative studies, which combined research interviews (n=27) and ethnographic data of a therapeutic education program (including non-participant observation of 44 therapeutic education sessions). For analyzing these qualitative data, we relied on the principles of analysis using conceptualizing categories. ResultsOur results show that the relationship between sick people and cancer and treatment refers to the intertwining of medical knowledge and lay knowledge. These are constructed and actualized in therapeutic relationships and the social situations through which participants experience their illness. This polyphasic knowledge operates as an active process of decoding the perceptions of the body and of the disease, and guides health behaviors. ConclusionThis article shows the contributions of a comprehensive and holistic approach as well as a multi-methodological design to investigate the complexity of the illness and treatment representational elaboration, by highlighting its cognitive, affective, social, and symbolic dimensions.

Educación terapéutica en insuficiencia cardiaca mediante e-Salud: revisión sistemática

ObjectiveTo provide the best scientific evidence available on the effectiveness of therapeutic education programs through digital health in patients with heart failure. DesignSystematic review of randomized clinical trials. Data sourcesSix databases were included due to their relevance in Health Sciences: PubMed, EMBASE, Scielo, Cochrane, CINAHL, and Web of Science. Selection of studiesIn English and Spanish, studies carried out between 2018 and 2023 were selected. After evaluating the methodological quality of the studies, the Jadad tool was used to discriminate those that did not meet said quality. In total, 8 articles from 6 different countries were included. Data extractionThe review and analysis of the documents were carried out by independent pairs. The Cochrane tool for RoB 2 randomized clinical trials was used to assess the risk of bias. ResultsAll the applications had therapeutic education, it was also assessed that they had monitoring, evaluation of signs and symptoms, drug titration, and professional follow-up through the application. ConclusionThis review reveals the significant impact of therapeutic education in increasing patient knowledge, reducing hospital readmissions, and improving functional status and self-care. This makes digital health a valuable tool to complement nursing care in patients with heart failure.

Impact of therapeutic education on the evolution of social representations of medication in patients with Parkinson's disease: A quantitative and qualitative study (ETPARK REMED)

BackgroundAmong the workshops of our therapeutic patient education (TPE) program, the medication workshop (TPEM workshop) is very frequently proposed to patients in view of the difficulties they encounter related to the complexity of managing antiparkinsonian treatment. Patients’ appropriation of their medications could depend on their social representations. ObjectivesTo evaluate the effect of our TPEM workshop on the social representations PD patients have of their medications and to compare it with that of another therapeutic intervention such as a talking group defined as the control group. MethodsThis single-center, prospective, randomized, parallel-group study investigated the social representations of medication through a questionnaire on knowledge about antiparkinsonian medications, a questionnaire on beliefs about medication (BMQ), and a word association task. ResultsIn the TPEM group (n=16), the workshop induced significant effects over time on the knowledge questionnaire (P=0.01), BMQ specific necessity and concerns scores (P=0.04 and 0.01, respectively), necessity-concerns differential (P=0.04), and BMQ general harm (P=0.04). No significant difference was found in the talking group (n=6). Comparison of the two groups showed a significant difference of the BMQ general harm with a decrease in belief in the harmfulness of the medications in the workshop group (P=0.03). The results of the verbal association task showed a modification in the content and structure of the social representations of medication in the TPEM group. DiscussionThe TPEM workshop helped reduce initial negative aspects of medication representations. Improved knowledge of their medication allowed patients to feel more competent and legitimate in communicating with caregivers, modifying their beliefs about medications. Indeed, the medication was perceived as less restrictive, care becoming central as shown by the emergence of the medical team in the social representations of the medication. ConclusionAll the results show a specific beneficial effect of the TPEM workshop through an evolution of the social representations of medications, which became more positive in our PD patients.

Assessing Sexual Functioning with the Female Sexual Function Index in Women Suffering from Genito-Pelvic Pain Penetration Disorder Undergoing a Therapeutic Educational Program

Genito-Pelvic Pain/Penetration Disorder is a common sexual disorder that affects an individual’s sexual health and overall well-being. Education is a therapeutic resource that presents several advantages, and it can potentially generate improvements both in pain and sexual functioning-related outcomes in patients suffering from this affliction. The objective of this study was to assess if a therapeutic educational program produced improvements in the different domains of the Female Sexual Function Index in participants suffering from Genito-Pelvic Pain Penetration Disorder. Participants were randomized into a group that received a face-to-face therapeutic educational program, a group that received the same program but online, or a control group. The Female Sexual Function Index was assessed, and analysis of the change in the domains for every group was performed using multiple t-tests. Improvements were found in the face-to-face intervention group, but only the “Pain” domain showed significant improvements (−1.1 points, p < 0.05). Improvements were also found in the online group, but they were only significant in the “Pain” and “Satisfaction” domains (−0.8 points, p < 0.05 for both). A therapeutic educational program improves pain-related outcomes, and it shows a positive tendency to also improve sexual functioning-related outcomes in patients suffering from Genito-Pelvic Pain/Penetration Disorder. Un programme d’éducation thérapeutique pour l’initiation et le suivi d’un traitement par clozapine

Clozapine is the reference treatment for resistant schizophrenia. Although its efficacy has been widely demonstrated in numerous studies, it remains largely under-prescribed in its main indication. Therapeutic patient education (TPE) programs focused on clozapine could, on the one hand, promote the prescription of this drug and, on the other, encourage patients to adhere to the treatment schedule by improving their knowledge of its effectiveness. This article presents the TPE program entitled “Living with clozapine” developed to support the initiation and follow-up of patients being treated with clozapine.

Effectiveness of a Therapeutic Educational Oral Health Program for Persons with Schizophrenia: A Cluster Randomized Controlled Trial and Qualitative Approach.

The oral health of people with schizophrenia (PWS) is very poor, suggesting a need for oral health promotion programmes with a high level of evidence. The aim of the EBENE study (Clinicaltrials.gov: NCT02512367) was to develop and evaluate the effectiveness of a multidisciplinary therapeutic educational programme in oral health (TEPOH) for PWS. A multicentre cluster randomised controlled trial, with outpatient psychiatry centres as the unit of randomisation, was designed to compare the effectiveness of TEPOH (intervention group) versus standard care (control group). The trial was conducted in 26 outpatient psychiatry centres in France (14 in the intervention group, 12 in the control group). Eligible patients with a diagnosis of schizophrenia were enroled between 2016 and 2020 and followed for 6 months. The TEPOH group received a multicomponent intervention (comprising an introductory session, three educational sessions, and a debriefing session). The primary endpoint was the evaluation of periodontal disease as a community periodontal index (CPI) score ≥ 3 at Month 6. The trial was completed using a qualitative approach based on semi-structured interviews with caregivers conducted between July 2018 and December 2019. The trial was stopped early due to difficulties in recruiting patients. Overall, 81 patients (of 250 planned) were included, and 54 patients completed the trial: 40 in the TEPOH group and 14 in the control group. At baseline, the percentage of CPI ≥ 3 was 42.5% in the TEPOH group and 9.1% in the control group. At Month 6, the percentage of CPI ≥ 3 was 20% in the TEPOH group and 14.3% in the control group. The qualitative evaluation underlined that the professionals emphasised the "seriousness" and "assiduity" of the patients' participation in this programme and that the TEPOH reinforced carers' investment in oral hygiene. It also highlighted structural factors (lack of resources for professionals, lack of teeth in PWS, COVID-19 pandemic) that may have exacerbated the difficulties with enrolment and follow-up. The effectiveness of this TEPOH, developed for PWS as part of the EBENE study, has not been demonstrated. Certain aspects of the programme's content and implementation need to be reconsidered. In particular, an adapted subjective measurement scale should be developed.

Nurse-led lifestyle intervention in a cohort of schizophrenia patients treated with clozapine

Patients diagnosed with schizophrenia are characterized by early mortality compared to the general population. The main cause of this premature death reflects medical complications linked to metabolic syndrome (MetS). The use of antipsychotics such as clozapine is associated with weight gain and metabolic disturbances in certain predisposed individuals. Non-pharmacological interventions for weight control have become a key element for secondary prevention in the health of patients diagnosed with schizophrenia. Here, we aim to evaluate the physical health effects of a nurse-led non-pharmacological intervention program in patients with a diagnosis of schizophrenia treated with clozapine.Thirty-one outpatients from the outpatient clinical facility of Hospital Clinic in Barcelona, Spain diagnosed with schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders receiving clozapine treatment were enrolled in a prospective interventional study, comprising an 8-week group program of therapeutic education in a healthy lifestyle. MetS factors, physical activity, diet, and lifestyle were evaluated at baseline, post-intervention (8 weeks), and 3 months after the program. Weight, body mass index, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and diet patterns displayed significant differences post-intervention and after 3 months, while only waist, hip perimeter, and lifestyle improved post-intervention.Our results suggest the effectiveness of the lifestyle intervention in patients under clozapine treatment despite its long-time differential effect. Strategies to prevent weight gain and metabolic decline will help prevent premature cardiometabolic disease in this vulnerable population.

A structured therapeutic education program for patients with type 1 diabetes

Type 1 diabetes is a chronic disease that represents a global health problem that its incidence is constantly increasing, hence the need for an effective management approach to control the disease and its complications. The main objective of this work is to share the experience of our service in the therapeutic education of the type 1 diabetic patient, from a study spread over 16 months involving 142 patients, including a 1st phase during the collection of data was made during patient hospitalization for therapeutic education, and a 2nd phase during which an evaluation was made after 6 months of intervention. The average age of our patients was 17 years. Among our recruited patients, 54% were able to benefit from the educational program for the initiation of functional insulin therapy. The evaluation after the educational intervention at 6 months was carried out in 78, 8% of our patients, having objectified a significant glycemic evolution by a 1.7% drop in HbA1c and an increase in the percentage of adherence to lifestyle and dietary measures and the practice of regular self-monitoring of the glycaemia as well as an improvement in the mean of the overall treatment satisfaction score was noted after the educational intervention. Our results underline the importance of therapeutic education in the management of diabetic patients, the main objective of which is to improve their quality of life, which was highlighted by the patient testimonial sessions and their entourage, which remain a novelty of the educational program called "Type One.. Number One" ,whose objective is to serve to motivation for type 1 diabetics, their entourage and also the medical team.

French guidelines for the etiological workup of eosinophilia and the management of hypereosinophilic syndromes

Eosinophilic-related clinical manifestations are protean and the underlying conditions underpinning eosinophilia are highly diverse. The etiological workup of unexplained eosinophilia/hypereosinophilia can be challenging, and can lead sometimes to extensive, inappropriate, costly and/or invasive investigations. To date, guidelines for the etiological workup and management of eosinophilia are mainly issued by hematologists, and thus mostly cover the scope of clonal hypereosinophilic syndromes (HES). Here, thanks to an extensive literature review, and thanks to the joint work of a large panel of experts involving physicians from both adult and pediatric medicine and from various subspecialties (as well as a representative of a patients’ association representative), we provide recommendations for both the step-by step diagnostic workup of eosinophilia (whether unexplained or within specific contexts) as well as the management and follow-up of the full spectrum of eosinophilic disorders (including clonal, reactive, lymphocytic and idiopathic HES, as well as single-organ diseases). Didactic prescription summaries intended to facilitate the prescription of eosinophil-targeted drugs are also provided, as are practical diagnostic and therapeutic algorithms. Lastly, this set of recommendations also includes a summary intended for general practitioners, as well as an overview of the therapeutic patient education program set up by the French reference center for HES. Further updates will be mandatory as new validated information emerges.

The experience of caregivers providing therapeutic patient education for people living with bipolar disorder: a qualitative study

BackgroundTherapeutic patient education (TPE) programs are psycho-educational treatments suggested for all chronic diseases. For several years, these programs have been developing for people living with bipolar disorder. However, to date, only few qualitative studies have explored the experience of caregivers. We wanted to explore the experience of caregivers working in psychiatry as facilitators of a therapeutic education program for people living with bipolar disorder.MethodA single-center qualitative study was carried out. We conducted an inductive exploration, examining the content of the discourse produced in a focus group of eight caregivers in therapeutic education. The corpus was transcribed manually and a thematic analysis was conducted by two authors in a blinded fashion before combining.ResultsFour dimensions and twenty themes were identified: i) facilitators' pleasant experiences of the TPE sessions with a secure climate and a sense of belonging to a group, ii) being a TPE facilitator with a new horizontal and collaborative posture valuing the experiential knowledge, iii) the role of the TPE sessions with knowledge provision, empowerment and destigmatization, and iv) perceived changes in patients with an appeasement, the awareness of a shared experience, openness to others, a phenomenon of identification to peers and a new commitment.Conclusions and implications for practiceThe observations noted overlap with the elements of the personal recovery well known CHIME framework (Connectedness, Hope, positive Identity, Meaning in life and Empowerment). Therapeutic education is a developing form of psychosocial rehabilitation care: through the mobilization of a new attitude of caring, the facilitation of TPE programs could be a lever for changing the posture of caregivers in favor of supporting the personal recovery of people with bipolar disorder. These results would need to be confirmed by further studies.

Sleep disorders in post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) are both diagnostic (nocturnal reliving) and prognostic. Poor sleep worsens the daytime symptomatology of PTSD and makes it resistant to treatment. However, no specific treatment is codified in France to treat these sleep disorders although sleep therapies (cognitive behavioural therapy for insomnia, psychoeducation and relaxation) have proven for years to be effective in treating insomnia. Therapeutic sessions can be part of a therapeutic patient education program, which is a model for the management of chronic pathologies. It allows for an improvement in a patient's quality of life and enhanced medication compliance. We therefore carried out an inventory of sleep disorders of patients with PTSD. First, we collected data by means of sleep diaries concerning the population's sleep disorders at home. Then we assessed the population's expectations and needs regarding its management of sleep, thanks to a semi-qualitative interview. The data from sleep diaries, which was consistent with the literature, showed that our patients suffered from severe sleep disorders that strongly impact their daily lives, with 87% of patients having an increased sleep onset latency, and 88% having nightmares. We observed a strong demand from patients for specific support for these symptoms, 91% expressing an interest in a TPE program targeting sleep disorders. Thanks to the data collected, the emerging themes for a future therapeutic patient education program targeting sleep disorders of soldiers with PTSD are: sleep hygiene; management of nocturnal awakenings, including nightmares; and psychotropic drugs.
