Application Status and Future Prospects of Traditional Chinese Medicine Nursing Technology

In recent years, the nursing technology of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has developed rapidly in the country. TCM nursing technology mainly refers to the application of TCM therapy in clinical nursing practice, such as acupoint massage, cupping, ear point pressure beans, scraping, wet compress of traditional Chinese medicine, etc. Its application can not only effectively reduce the pain of patients, but also can promote the treatment effect, help patients recover early, but also help to further improve the quality of service of nursing staff. In clinical nursing practice, however, the application of TCM nursing technology still has some problems, such as the theory of traditional Chinese medicine nursing quality to promote, “Internet + TCM nursing” is still in the exploratory stage, etc. This article mainly discusses the application status and existing problems of Chinese medicine nursing technique, coping strategies and its future prospects for related analysis and research, hope to be able to improve the quality of TCM nursing technology application in China to provide some reference and reference.

Zhi-Kang-Yin formula attenuates high-fat diet-induced metabolic disorders through modulating gut microbiota-bile acids axis in mice

BackgroundMetabolic disorders have become one of the global medical problems. Due to the complexity of its pathogenesis, there is still no effective treatment. Bile acids (BAs) and gut microbiota (GM) have been proved to be closely related to host metabolism, which could be important targets for metabolic disorders. Zhi-Kang-Yin (ZKY) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formula developed by the research team according to theory of TCM and has been shown to improve metabolism in clinic. However, the underlying mechanisms are unclear.Aim of the studyThis study aimed to investigate the potential mechanisms of the beneficial effect of ZKY on metabolism.MethodsHigh-fat diet (HFD)-fed mice were treated with and without ZKY. The glucose and lipid metabolism-related indexes were measured. BA profile, GM composition and hepatic transcriptome were then investigated to analyze the changes of BAs, GM, and hepatic gene expression. Moreover, the relationship between GM and BAs was identified with functional gene quantification and ex vivo fermentation experiment.ResultsZKY reduced weight gain and lipid levels in both liver and serum, attenuated hepatic steatosis and improved glucose tolerance in HFD-fed mice. BA profile detection showed that ZKY changed the composition of BAs and increased the proportion of unconjugated BAs and non-12-OH BAs. Hepatic transcriptomic analysis revealed fatty acid metabolism and BA biosynthesis related pathways were regulated. In addition, ZKY significantly changed the structure of GM and upregulated the gene copy number of bacterial bile salt hydrolase. Meanwhile, ZKY directly promoted the growth of Bifidobacterium, which is a well-known bile salt hydrolase-producing genus. The ex vivo co-culture experiment with gut microbiota and BAs demonstrated that the changes of BAs profile in ZKY group were mediated by ZKY-shifted GM, which led to increased expression of genes associated with fatty acid degradation in the liver.ConclusionOur study indicated that the effect of ZKY on improving metabolism is associated with the modulation of GM-BAs axis, especially, by upregulating the abundance of bile salt hydrolase-expression bacteria and increasing the levels of unconjugated BAs. This study indicates that GM-BAs axis might be an important pathway for improving metabolic disorders by ZKY.

TCM-Centric Innovations in WHO's International Standard Terminologies: A Qualitative Exploration

Abstract: Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is increasingly recognized worldwide as a valuable complementary and alternative medicine. To facilitate global research and collaboration in this field, the World Health Organization (WHO) introduced the International Standard Terminologies on Traditional Chinese Medicine on March 3, 2022. This international terminology translation standard, IST 2022, goes beyond conventional translation by embracing three innovative features: 1) It reflects TCM's foundational philosophy of unity and opposition, emphasizing the interconnectedness among TCM terms during translation. This approach transcends individual term translations to explore the interrelationships among them. 2) It meticulously preserves the integrity of TCM theory. It achieves this by retaining transliterations for unique TCM terms that possess distinct features, thus upholding the essence of TCM. 3) It employs innovative Xiang (Image) cognition, a concept rooted in traditional Chinese thought by helping readers grasp visual and mental imagery associated with each term. This study presents a qualitative analysis based on interviews with 11 TCM translation experts, examining their perspectives on these features and their translational preferences across IST 2007 and 2022 versions. The findings contribute to the standardization and global harmonization of TCM terminology, advocating for clarity, precision, and the advancement of TCM in the international healthcare arena.

Exploring the Mechanisms of Self-made Kuiyu Pingchang Recipe for the Treatment of Ulcerative Colitis and Irritable Bowel Syndrome using a Network Pharmacology-based Approach and Molecular Docking.

Ulcerative colitis (UC) and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) are common intestinal diseases. According to the clinical experience and curative effect, the authors formulated Kuiyu Pingchang Decoction (KYPCD) comprised of Paeoniae radix alba, Aurantii Fructus, Herba euphorbiae humifusae, Lasiosphaera seu Calvatia, Angelicae sinensis radix, Panax ginseng C.A. Mey., Platycodon grandiforus and Allium azureum Ledeb. The aim of the present study was to explore the mechanisms of KYPCD in the treatment of UC and IBS following the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) theory of "Treating different diseases with the same treatment". The chemical ingredients and targets of KYPCD were obtained using the Traditional Chinese Medicine Systems Pharmacology database and analysis platform (TCMSP). The targets of UC and IBS were extracted using the DisGeNET, GeneCards, DrugBANK, OMIM and TTD databases. The "TCM-component-target" network and the "TCM-shared target-disease" network were imaged using Cytoscape software. The protein-protein interaction (PPI) network was built using the STRING database. The DAVID platform was used to analyze the Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathways. Using Autodock Tools software, the main active components of KYPCD were molecularly docked with their targets and visualized using PyMOL. A total of 46 active ingredients of KYPCD corresponding to 243 potential targets, 1,565 targets of UC and 1,062 targets of IBS, and 70 targets among active ingredients and two diseases were screened. Core targets in the PPI network included IL6, TNF, AKT1, IL1B, TP53, EGFR and VEGFA. GO and KEGG enrichment analysis demonstrated 563 biological processes, 48 cellular components, 82 molecular functions and 144 signaling pathways. KEGG enrichment results revealed that the regulated pathways were mainly related to the PI3K-AKT, MAPK, HIF-1 and IL-17 pathways. The results of molecular docking analysis indicated that the core active ingredients of KYPCD had optimal binding activity to their corresponding targets. KYPCD may use IL6, TNF, AKT1, IL1B, TP53, EGFR and VEGFA as the key targets to achieve the treatment of UC and IBS through the PI3K-AKT, MAPK, HIF-1 and IL-17 pathways.

Protective effects of phenylethanol glycosides from Cistanche tubulosa against ALD through modulating gut microbiota homeostasis

Ethnopharmacological relevanceCistanche tubulosa (Schenk) Wight, a Chinese herbal medicine (Rou Cong Rong) with Xinjiang characteristics, was recorded in many medical books in ancient China and often used as a tonic medicine. Supported by the traditional Chinese medicine theory of “homology of liver and kidney,” C. tubulosa (Schenk) Wight has many clinical applications in tonifying the kidney and protecting the liver. Modern pharmacological studies have also found that the protective effects of phenylethanol glycosides from C. tubulosa (Schenk) Wight (CPhGs) play an important role in ameliorating alcoholic liver injury. Aim of the studyWe aimed to investigate whether CPhGs can enhance the therapeutic outcome of alcoholic liver disease (ALD) by targeting the “gut–liver axis,” thus contributing to the knowledge of how Chinese herbs alleviate disease by influencing the gut microbiota. Materials and methodsAn ALD mouse model was established using the Lieber–DeCarli alcohol liquid diet, and the effects of CPhGs on the intestinal barrier and gut microbiota of ALD mice were investigated in a pseudo-sterile mouse model and fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) mouse model. We fed female C57BL/6N mice with Lieber-DeCarli ethanol liquid diet, according to the NIAAA model. Animal experiment of long-term, ethanol diet intervention for 6W, and short-term for 11d. The FMT experiments were also performed. ResultsCPhGs significantly improved ALD manifestations. ALD mice demonstrated significant gut microbiota dysbiosis and significantly abnormal proliferation of Allobaculum compared with the control diet group in long-term NIAAA mouse model (L-Pair). In mice that received the long-term intervention, the improvement in gut barrier function in the CPhGs-treated group was accompanied by a significant decrease in the abundance of Allobaculum and a significant increase in the abundance of Akkermansia. Furthermore, compared with the mouse were gavaged fecal microbiota from the long-term NIAAA mouse donors (FMT-EtOH), the number of goblet cells, abundance of Akkermansia, and the intestinal short-chain fatty acid concentrations were significantly increased in the mouse were gavaged fecal microbiota from high (700 mg/kg) doses of CPhGs orally in long-term NIAAA model donors (FMT-EtOH-H). Network analysis and species distribution results demonstrated that Akkermansia and Allobaculum were the genera with the highest abundances in the gut microbiota and that their interaction was related to propionic acid metabolism. ConclusionsThe results suggest that CPhGs exert a protective effect against ALD by modulating the abundance and composition of Akkermansia and Allobaculum in the intestine, maintaining the intestinal mucus balance, and safeguarding intestinal barrier integrity.

Detecting five-pattern personality traits using eye movement features for observing emotional faces.

The five-pattern personality traits rooted in the theory of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) have promising prospects for clinical application. However, they are currently assessed using a self-report scale, which may have certain limitations. Eye tracking technology, with its non-intrusive, objective, and culturally neutral characteristics, has become a powerful tool for revealing individual cognitive and emotional processes. Therefore, applying this technology for personality assessment is a promising approach. In this study, participants observed five emotional faces (anger, happy, calm, sad, and fear) selected from the Chinese Facial Affective Picture System. Utilizing artificial intelligence algorithms, we evaluated the feasibility of automatically identifying different traits of the five-pattern personality traits from participants' eye movement patterns. Based on the analysis of five supervised learning algorithms, we draw the following conclusions: The Lasso feature selection method and Logistic Regression achieve the highest prediction accuracy for most of the traits (TYa, SYa, SYi, TYi). This study develops a framework for predicting five-pattern personality traits using eye movement behavior, offering a novel approach for personality assessment in TCM.

Multi-level exploration of auricular acupuncture: from traditional Chinese medicine theory to modern medical application.

As medical research advances and technology rapidly develops, auricular acupuncture has emerged as a point of growing interest. This paper delves into the intricate anatomy of auricular points, their significance and therapeutic principles in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), and the underlying mechanisms of auricular acupuncture in contemporary medicine. The aim is to delve deeply into this ancient and mysterious medical tradition, unveiling its multi-layered mysteries in the field of neurostimulation. The anatomical structure of auricular points is complex and delicate, and their unique neurovascular network grants them a special status in neurostimulation therapy. Through exploration of these anatomical features, we not only comprehend the position of auricular points in TCM theory but also provide a profound foundation for their modern medical applications. Through systematic review, we synthesize insights from traditional Chinese medical theory for modern medical research. Building upon anatomical and classical theoretical foundations, we focus on the mechanisms of auricular acupuncture as a unique neurostimulation therapy. This field encompasses neuroregulation, pain management, psychological wellbeing, metabolic disorders, and immune modulation. The latest clinical research not only confirms the efficacy of auricular stimulation in alleviating pain symptoms and modulating metabolic diseases at the endocrine level but also underscores its potential role in regulating patients' psychological wellbeing. This article aims to promote a comprehensive understanding of auricular acupuncture by demonstrating its diverse applications and providing substantial evidence to support its broader adoption in clinical practice.

Study on the metabolism of Xiao-Jian-Zhong-Tang in rats with chronic atrophic gastritis coupled with bioinformatics.

Xiao-Jian-Zhong-Tang (XJZT) has the effect of warming the middle and tonifying the deficiency, easing the urgency and relieving pain according to the theory of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), and is able to treat spleen deficiency type chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG). Metabolites of TCM in cecum contents are common metabolites of intestinal bacteria and hosts, which can reflect the metabolic status in disease states. The present work was performed to study the effect of XJZT against CAG coupled with the cecal metabolites analysis and bioinformatics. A total of nine prototypical components and 144 metabolites were firstly identified in the cecum metabolites of XJZT using ultra-high performance liquid chromatography added to the quadrupole-time of flight mass spectrometry (UHPLC-Q-TOF/MS), which underwent the metabolism of oxidation, reduction, methylation, and glucuronic acid reaction Furthermore, different prototypical compounds might metabolize into identical metabolites in the presence of intestinal flora. Bioinformatics was further used to correlate these metabolites with the disease and intestinal flora. Components and targets were screened by Cytoscape, and molecular docking of key targets and core components showed good binding ability. This study provided important information for exploring the mechanism of TCM formulae.

The increased tendency for anemia in traditional Chinese medicine deficient body constitution is associated with the gut microbiome.

Constitution is a valuable part of traditional Chinese medicine theory; it is defined as the internal foundation for the occurrence, development, transformation and outcome of diseases, and has its characteristic gut microbiota. Previous study showed that deficiency constitution was related to lower Hb counts. However, no research has examined how alterations in the gut microbiome induced by deficiency constitution may increase the tendency for anemia. We used a multiomics strategy to identify and quantify taxonomies and compounds found under deficient constitution individuals and further explore the possible pathological factors that affect red blood cell indices. ① People with deficient constitution showed lower hemoglobin (Hb), more Firmicutes, less Bacteroidetes, and higher α diversity. ② We identified Escherichia coli, Clostridium bolteae, Ruminococcus gnavus, Streptococcus parasanguinis and Flavonifractor plautii as potential biomarkers of deficient constitution. ③ Slackia piriformis, Clostridium_sp_L2_50 and Bacteroides plebeius were enriched in balanced-constitution individuals, and Parabacteroides goldsteinii was the key bacterial marker of balanced constitution. ④ Flavonifractor plautii may be a protective factor against the tendency for anemia among deficient individuals. ⑤ Ruminococcus gnavus may be the shared microbe base of deficiency constitution-related the tendency for anemia. ⑥ The microorganism abundance of the anaerobic phenotype was lower in deficient constitution group. ⑦ Alterations in the microbiome of deficient-constitution individuals were associated with worse health status and a greater risk of anemia, involving intestinal barrier function, metabolism and immune responses, regulated by short-chain fatty acids and bile acid production. The composition of the gut microbiome was altered in people with deficient constitution, which may explain their poor health status and tendency toward anemia.

Study on Shenbao Tablet in Treating Kidney-yang Deficiency Syndromebased on Metabolomics.

The aim of this study was to elucidate the mechanism of action of Shenbao tablets using metabolomics approach. Kidney-Yang deficiency is a common syndrome type in traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) syndrome typology, closely related to disorders of multiple metabolic pathways and is the root cause and underlying syndrome type of many diseases. Shenbao tablets can significantly improve the main symptoms of kidney yang deficiency syndrome, but the mechanism of action of Shenbao tablets on kidney yang deficiency syndrome is still unknown. The rats were intraperitoneally injected with hydrocortisone once a day for 40 days to simulate the syndrome. Traditional pharmacodynamic indicators (body mass, biochemical indicators and pathology) were used to evaluate the efficacy of the medicine. Serum, urine and feces were collected from rats. UPLC/MS metabolomics method was used to study the overall metabolic profile of serum, while GC/MS metabolomics method was used to study the metabolic spectrum of urine and feces. Results showed that the syndrome was significantly improved in the treatment group, and obvious metabolic disorders were observed in rats with the syndrome, with 47 potential biomarkers identified. Pathway analysis showed that nicotinate and nicotinamide metabolism, glycine, serine and trione metabolism, aminoacyl tRNA biosynthesis, glycoxylate and dicarboxylate metabolism were the major ways for Shenbao tablet to improve kidney-yang deficiency syndrome. The mechanism of action of Shenbao tablet in improving the syndrome involves the regulation of energy metabolism, amino acid metabolism, bile acid metabolism, fatty acid metabolism and intestinal microorganisms. This work shows that metabolomics is a promising tool for studying the essence of syndrome theory in TCM and the mechanisms of TCM.

The effect of acupuncture on gastrointestinal recovery after abdominal surgery: a narrative review from clinical trials.

Abdominal surgery is a critical surgery, with more and more attention being paid to postoperative life quality and associated complications in recent years. Among these complications, postoperative gastrointestinal dysfunction is the most common complication of abdominal surgery. Acupuncture therapy is a treatment approach based on the Traditional Chinese Medicine theory, and its feasibility in aiding gastrointestinal recovery after abdominal surgery is supported by both Traditional Chinese Medicine theory and animal experiments. A lot of clinical research has been conducted to evaluate its efficacy, albeit with limitations, and at preliminary stages. Moreover, intervention timing, acupoint selection, and patient benefits should also be considered in clinical practices. This article summarizes the progress of clinical research on acupuncture therapy in gastrointestinal recovery after abdominal surgery and discusses related issues and operations, with the aim to provide new insights and prospects for the incorporation of acupuncture into the Enhanced Recovery After Surgery protocol.

Professor Wei-bin GAO's experience in treatment of voiding dysfunction with electroacupuncture: 高维滨教授电针治疗排尿功能障碍的临证经验

As a common clinical syndrome, voiding dysfunction is complicated in etiology, involved in a variety of diseases and associated with multi-disciplines of medicine. Either medication or surgery has not obtained the favorable effect on it. Integrated the theories of traditional Chinese medicine and Western medicine and based on the pathogenesis of the disease, the acupoint specificity and neuromodulatory effects, Professor Wei-bin GAO suggested “selecting the acupoints along the affected areas”. The acupoints located near to the lumbar, sacral and abdominal regions are dominated and stimulated with electroacupuncture at different electric waves. In treatment, electric stimulation with disperse and dense waves was adopted. The bone conduction theory of dense-wave electric field was proposed. The same neuromodulation is presented in different diseases such as neurogenic bladder, pediatric enuresis, senile nocturia, benign prostatic hyerplasia, and postpartum of postoperative urination disorders. Hence, the same therapeutic method is adoptable to different diseases with the basic acupoint composition modified.

Exploring resveratrol against Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease through integrating network pharmacology, bioinformatics, and experimental validation strategy in vitro

BackgroundThe study aims to investigate the pharmacological basis and molecular mechanisms of resveratrol in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease (AD) and Parkinson's disease (PD) through the approach of treating different diseases with the same method, guided by traditional Chinese medicine theory. Utilizing network pharmacology and bioinformatics methods, this research aims to provide modern medical evidence for the theory of treating different diseases with the same method in traditional Chinese medicine. MethodsOmnibus from Swiss Target Prediction, TCMSP, SuperPred, SEA, HIT, CTD, TCMIP and Gene Expression Disease datasets for resveratrol related genes, Alzheimer's disease, and Parkinson's disease were obtained from the GEO database. Core targets were identified by weighted gene coexpression network analysis (WGCNA) and minimum absolute contraction and selection operator (LASSO). The expression of core targets was verified in AD and PD cell models. The immune characteristics of AD and PD were analyzed by CIBERSORT algorithm. Finally, the potential mechanism of resveratrol intervention on the core target was studied by molecular docking technique. ResultsThe results of network pharmacological analysis showed that resveratrol acted on 85 common targets such as STAT3 and CASP3, affected AGE-RAGE signaling pathway and PI3K-Akt signaling pathway, and showed the effect of "same disease and different treatment" for AD and PD. Three core targets associated with AD and PD (PLK4, FCGRT, and PRKAR2A) were finally identified through comprehensive transcriptome analysis, and experimentally verified in cell models of AD and PD. At the same time, the analysis of immune cell infiltration suggested that AD and PD had dysregulation of inflammation, and the core target was significantly related to M2 macrophages. ConclusionResveratrol may play a potential mechanism of "treating the same disease with different diseases" and target three core targets (PLK4, FCGRT and PRKAR2A) to improve the disease process of AD and PD by participating in the regulation of immune and inflammatory pathways. These findings have potential implications for clinical practice and future research.

Analysis of placebo effect of acupuncture.

Acupuncture is a comprehensive therapy which takes the theory of traditional Chinese medicine as the core. Currently, there is much controversy surrounding the "placebo effect" of acupuncture： some people argue that acupuncture is a "super placebo", while others believe that the so-called placebo effect is just part of the therapeutic effect of acupuncture. To solve the controversy, this article clarified the definition, composition, and research purposes of "placebo acupuncture", pointed out its differences from "sham acupuncture", elucidated the relationship between the placebo effect and the intrinsic efficacy of acupuncture, distinguished the differences between the "observed placebo effect" and the "real placebo effect" in acupuncture clinical trials, and proposed the dilemmas and prospects of implementing "placebo acupuncture" and "sham acupuncture" contrasts at the current stage, in order to provide clues for optimizing randomized controlled trials of acupuncture.

Network pharmacology and molecular docking reveal potential mechanisms of ginseng in the treatment of diabetes mellitus-induced erectile dysfunction and asthenospermia.

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic disease that predisposes to chronic damage and dysfunction of various organs, including leading to erectile dysfunction (ED) and asthenospermia. Literature suggests that ginseng plays an important role in the treatment and management of DM. Ginseng may have a therapeutic effect on the complications of DM-induced ED and asthenospermia. The study aimed to explore the mechanisms of ginseng in the treatment of DM-induced ED and asthenospermia following the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) theory of "treating different diseases with the same treatment." This study used network pharmacology and molecular docking to examine the potential targets and pharmacological mechanism of Ginseng for the treatment of DM-induced ED and asthenospermia. The chemical ingredients and targets of ginseng were acquired using the Traditional Chinese Medicine Systems Pharmacology database and analysis platform. The targets of DM, ED, and asthenospermia were extracted with the GeneCards and Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man databases. A protein-protein interaction network analysis was constructed. The Metascape platform was applied for analyzing the gene ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathways. AutoDock Vina was used to perform molecular docking. Network pharmacology revealed that the main active components of the target of action were kaempferol, beta-sitosterol, ginsenoside rh2, stigmasterol, and fumarine. Core targets of the protein-protein interaction network included TNF, IL-1β, AKT1, PTGS2, BCL2, and JUN. Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes enrichment analysis showed that they were mainly involved in AGE-RAGE signaling pathway in diabetic complications, TNF signaling pathway, Lipid and atherosclerosis. The interactions of core active components and targets were analyzed by molecular docking. Ginseng may play a comprehensive therapeutic role in the treatment of DM-induced ED and asthenospermia through "multicomponent, multi-target, and multi-pathway" biological mechanisms such as inflammation and oxidative stress.

Complementary therapy with Chinese aromatic herbs to promote awakening in a comatose patient: A case report.

Traumatic brain injury frequently leads to prolonged coma, posing significant medical management challenges. Complementary therapies, including traditional Chinese herbal medicine, have been investigated as potential interventions in comatose patients. Chinese aromatic herbs, such as Borneolum (Bingpian), Moschus (Shexiang), and Acori tatarinowii rhizoma (Shichangpu), have long been believed to be "resuscitation with aromatics" based on traditional Chinese medicines theory. A 16-year-old male was admitted to the intensive rehabilitation unit for further treatment due to prolonged coma and frequent seizures following traumatic brain injury. Western medicine diagnosed the patient as coma, diffuse axonal injury, and epilepsy. According to traditional Chinese medicine theory, the syndrome differentiation indicates a Yin-closed disease. According to the patient's condition, we use the Chinese aromatic herbs as a complementary therapy. Following a month-long administration, the patient's consciousness and electroencephalogram (EEG) background progressively improved. A 6-month follow-up demonstrated full arousal, though with ambulatory EEG revealing mild to moderate abnormality in the background. The addition of Chinese aromatic herbs appears to have a beneficial effect on the patient's consciousness and EEG background. This could be attributed to the herbs' inherent pharmacological properties, as well as their potential to enhance the permeability of the blood-brain barrier to other drugs. This makes them a promising option for complementary therapy.

Shirebi granules ameliorate acute gouty arthritis by inhibiting NETs-induced imbalance between immunity and inflammation

BackgroundAcute gouty arthritis (AGA) is classified as ‘arthritis’ in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) theory. Shirebi granules (SGs), derived from the classic prescription SiMiaoWan, exerts satisfying therapeutic efficacy in ameliorating AGA clinically. However, the underlying mechanisms of SGs against AGA remain unclarified.MethodsAGA-related biological processes, signal pathways and biomarker genes were mined from the GEO database through bioinformatics. SGs components were systematically recognized using the UPLC-Q-TOF–MS/MS. A correlation network was established based on the biomarker genes and the chemical components, from which the signal pathway used for further study was selected. Finally, we established an AGA model using SD rats injected with monosodium urate (MSU) in the ankle joint for experimental validation. A combination of behavioral tests, H&E, safranin O- fast green, western blotting, and immunofluorescence were employed to reveal the mechanism of action of SGs on AGA.ResultsThe deterioration of AGA was significantly related to the imbalance between immunity and inflammation, neutrophil chemotaxis and inflammatory factor activation. HDAC5, PRKCB, NFκB1, MPO, PRKCA, PIK3CA were identified to be the candidate targets of SGs against AGA, associated with neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) signal pathway. Animal experiments demonstrated that SGs effectively repaired cartilage damage, blocked TLR4 activation, and inhibited the expression of NETs indicators and inflammatory factors. In addition, SGs prominently alleviated joint redness and swelling, improved joint dysfunction, inhibited inflammatory infiltration of AGA rats.ConclusionOur data reveal that SGs may effectively alleviate the disease severity of AGA by suppressing NETs-promoted imbalance between immunity and inflammation.

Application of Psychotherapy Based on Five-Element Theory in Traditional Chinese Medicine in Improving the Mental States of Patients with Post-Stroke Depression.

This study aims to explore the clinical effect of psychotherapy based on five-element theory in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) in improving the mental states of patients with post-stroke depression (PSD), to provide reference and guidance for clinical treatment. A retrospective study was conducted on 163 PSD cases treated in The Second Affiliated Hospital, Hengyang Medical School, University of South China from January 2022 to January 2023. The patients treated with conventional treatment were included in the control group (n = 84), and patients receiving psychotherapy based on five-element theory in TCM and conventional treatment were classified as the observation group (n = 79). The anxiety levels, depression levels, TCM syndrome scores and sleep quality were compared in both groups. The enumeration data were tested by χ2 test. Kolmogorov-Smirnov method tested whether the measurement data met normal distribution, and those did not meet normal distribution were tested by Mann-Whitney method. The difference was statistically significant at p < 0.05. After 4-week and 8-week treatments, the observation group had significantly lower scores of Hamilton Anxiety Scale (z = -4.562, -6.765; p < 0.001), Hamilton Depression Scale (z = -7.588, -8.023; p < 0.001), TCM syndrome (z = -7.138, -10.946; p < 0.001), and Pittsburgh sleep quality index (z = -6.819, -8.240; p < 0.001) than the control group. Psychotherapy based on five-element theory in TCM is beneficial to patients with PSD and can bring a certain clinical reference value.

One-stop multi-sensor fusion and multimodal precise quantified traditional Chinese medicine imaging health examination technology

Except for single-mode traditional Chinese medicine imaging techniques such as infrared thermal imaging, the one-stop multimodal whole-body imaging health examination technology and device is still blank. We focus on infrared thermal imaging as the main modality, integrated various modalities of medical imaging intelligent sensing agents such as terahertz imaging. The upper and lower computer and virtual instrument architecture are used, and the imaging data are collected by the lower computers that each is an intelligent sensing agent. The upper computer is used for image reconstruction with intelligent algorithms. Based on the core theory of traditional Chinese medicine, intelligent fusion imaging is achieved through various modalities to achieve the ‘observation, hearing, questioning, and palpation’ four diagnostic integration. We use fractional Fourier transform to filter imaging data, Laplacian pyramid for image fusion. We have proposed an implementation method and process for combining traditional Chinese medicine imaging large language model with knowledge graph, and based on deep learning, we have studied the image and report generation algorithm that combines traditional Chinese medicine pathology and four diagnostic methods with knowledge graph fusion, as well as the traditional Chinese medicine human physiological and pathological interpretation and evaluation system. We have achieved some results, and through further research and development, we can achieve commercial applications.

Challenges on Translating the Elements of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Hong Lou Meng

This study aimed to investigate the challenges associated with translating elements of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) within the context of Hong Lou Meng. Building upon the identified challenges, the study delved into solutions aimed at employing effective strategies in the translation of diverse Traditional Chinese Medicine. This study employed a qualitative method to investigate the translation of TCM terms in the English version translated by Hawkes and Minford (2014) from the perspective of translation aesthetics. The study carefully chose representative examples from different facets of TCM in the source text, encompassing TCM theories, disease diagnosis and syndromes, and terminologies and formulas. The translated content was juxtaposed with the source text to scrutinize the translation methods employed in the translation. Based on this analysis, the study assessed both the achievements and shortcomings in translating various TCM terms from the perspective of translation aesthetics. Ultimately, the study consolidated solutions and compensation methods on how to retain the aesthetic and cultural value of Chinese medicine elements in the translation of classical literature. The study findings indicate that the challenges of translating TCM lie in conveying the difficult TCM theories, the recreation of the strict and beautiful language structures in disease diagnosis and syndromes, and the accurate reproduction of TCM terminologies. It shows that to overcome the challenges, translators should adopt various methods flexibly, such as annotating the TCM theories, recreating the content using similar sentence structures by adopting domestication plus transliteration, or foreignization plus annotation to translate Chinese medicine terminologies and formulas.
