Non-governmental organizations’ development interventions and community empowerment in Kitui County, Kenya

Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) are crucial actors in international development, addressing global challenges and fostering sustainable development in communities worldwide. Despite concerted NGO efforts, Kitui County in Eastern Kenya remains underdeveloped, grappling with significant challenges in education, healthcare, women empowerment, and food security. With 48% of its population living in poverty, surpassing the national average, and 39.4% facing food insecurity, Kitui County is in urgent need of intervention. This study investigates the impact of NGO interventions on community empowerment in Kitui County, focusing on education, health, and women empowerment sectors. Drawing on the Empowerment Theory and Sustainable Development Theory, a pragmatic research approach was adopted, employing a descriptive survey design. Data were collected from 384 residents aged 18 and above, utilizing structured questionnaires and interviews. Quantitative data were analyzed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS), while qualitative data underwent thematic analysis. Findings reveal that NGO interventions have positively influenced education, with 66% acknowledging improved access to quality education through provided materials and teacher training programs. In healthcare, immunization campaigns (65%) and maternal and child health clinics (65%) have significantly reduced mortality rates and increased health awareness. Women empowerment initiatives, including microfinance and leadership training, have empowered women economically (64%) and facilitated their advocacy for rights (69%). This study underscores the vital role of NGOs in enhancing community empowerment in Kitui County. It emphasizes the need for sustained NGO interventions tailored to local contexts to address multifaceted development challenges effectively.

The concept of sustainable development has garnered significant attention in political discourse, particularly within left-wing alterglobalism. This article examines the formation of the concept of sustainable development and its key tenets through the lens of Marxist and neo-Marxist political theory within the framework of left-wing alterglobalism. Special emphasis is placed on the specificity of the left-wing alterglobalism position on issues pertaining to the possibility and necessity of sustainable development worldwide. A historical overview of the development of the concept under the auspices of the United Nations (UN) is provided. It is noted that the current Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a refined version of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), which were in effect until 2015. The complexity of implementing the SDGs due to the differing initial levels of states is discussed. The specificity of the theory of sustainable development in left socio-political theory is defined, along with the prospects for its utilization in shaping the paradigm of development in post-capitalist society. Despite its theoretical appeal, the implementation of sustainable development faces numerous challenges, including political resistance, vested interests, and unequal power dynamics among nations. The heterogeneity of states’ development levels complicates efforts to achieve global consensus and cooperation in pursuing sustainability goals. In conclusion, the concept of sustainable development within left-wing alterglobalism offers a compelling vision for addressing the interconnected challenges of environmental degradation, social injustice, and economic inequality. By grounding sustainability efforts in Marxist and neo-Marxist principles, this perspective provides a robust framework for envisioning a post-capitalist society based on democratic governance, social equity, and ecological resilience.

How Does Foreign Capital Impact Urban Green Development? Evidence from Central China

Background: Foreign capital, a significant component of the contemporary export-oriented economy, helps to solve ecological and environmental issues and encourages the green transformation of urban development techniques. This study develops an assessment framework for urban green development using panel data from 80 cities in Central China between 2007 and 2022. Simultaneously, the impact of foreign capital on urban green development was tested through the mechanism of green technological innovation using the panel mediating effect model, and the impact of economic development level on the impact of foreign capital on the same was tested using the threshold effect model. The primary research findings are as follows: (1) Foreign capital has greatly enhanced urban green development in Central China; (2) Green technology innovation acts as a major mediating variable in the process by which foreign capital influences urban green development; (3) Economic development has a single threshold effect on foreign capital influencing urban green development. This article suggests that the government focus more on the prudent use of foreign capital in light of the findings above. The study's findings offer an empirical foundation for more effectively encouraging urban green development as well as some theoretical direction for the long-term growth of human society in underdeveloped nations or areas. Objective: The objective of this study is to explore the key factors affecting urban green development in Central China, including the direct impact of foreign capital, the mediating effect of green technology innovation and the threshold effect of economic development, with the aim of improving urban green development in Central China. Theoretical Framework: This study mainly refers to Sustainable Development Theory and Schumpeterian Innovation Theory. Because urban green development belongs to the category of sustainable development, and the mediating analysis in this article is consistent with Schumpeterian Innovation Theory. Method: The entropy method is used to measure the degree of urban green development. Baseline regression is used to analyze the direct impact of foreign capital on urban green development. The mediating model is used to analyze the mediating role of green technology innovation in the impact of foreign capital on urban green development. The threshold model is used to analyze the threshold effect of economic development on foreign capital in affecting urban green development. Results and Discussion: The results confirmed the hypothesis. First, foreign capital has a positive impact on urban green development. Second, green technology innovation plays a mediating role in the process of foreign capital affecting urban green development. Third, economic development plays a single threshold effect in the process of green technology innovation affecting urban green development.However, this study still has certain limitations. Because there are certain differences between official statistics and reality, and the indicators selected in this article are limited, they cannot fully reflect the actual results. Research Implications: The practical and theoretical implications of this research are discussed, providing new ideas for urban green development in Central China from the perspective of foreign capital. And the role of green technology innovation and economic development cannot be ignored. This is not only in line with the world theme of green and sustainable development, but also conducive to accelerating the internationalization process of Central China. And this research also provides theoretical support for green development in developing countries or regions. Originality/Value: This study contributes to the literature by being based on official data from the National Bureau of Statistics of China and using a series of recognized empirical methods to study Central China's urban green development and key influencing factors. The value of this article is that it not only enriches the research on urban green development in Central China. It also provides a reference for green development and international development in other developing regions in China and other developing countries or regions around the world.

Liaoning University ChopMelon Net Project: Innovative Research on Sustainable Education Based on Real Social Issues

The purpose of this study is to evaluate how the ChopMelon Net online learning platform can contribute to the effectiveness of sustainable education by incorporating real social issues. The core innovation of ChopMelon Net is that it provides a learning environment that connects learners directly to real-world challenges and aims to enhance learners’ understanding of sustainable development theory. The study employed the technology acceptance model (TAM), theory of planned behavior (TPB), and knowledge–Behavior gap theory (KBGT) to design the questionnaires and semi-structured interviews in order to comprehensively assess the impact of ChopMelon Net on learners’ skill enhancement. The results showed that learners not only showed significant improvement in critical thinking and problem-solving skills after using ChopMelon Net, but also expressed a high level of satisfaction with the educational content and interactive experience provided by the platform. In addition, the study found that ChopMelon Net effectively promoted learners’ awareness of the importance of sustainable education and behavioral change through its innovative educational model, which provides important empirical support for future sustainable education practices and the design of online education platforms. This study highlights the importance and effectiveness of incorporating real social issues into the teaching and learning process, with far-reaching implications for sustainable innovation in education.

“Two Mountains concept” leading the green transformation of China's economic society

The rapid urbanization are serious threats to global sustainable development, making the green transformation of socio-economy and industry a must for global efforts. The theory of ecological and economic harmonization in ecological economics has gained attention. However the Two Mountains concept, i.e., “Lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets”, has been mostly neglected as a practical demonstration of the theory. In this study an equal weights method is used to construct an index system for testing the effectiveness of the ongoing practices and demonstrations of the Two Mountains concept, and whether it can achieve the expected green transformation objectives. A total of 421 pilot cases and 208 surrounding non-pilot cases in China from 2010 to 2020 are selected for analysis. The results indicate that: (1) From 2010 to 2020, overall 98.33% of pilots show positive improvement in comprehensive effectiveness; (2) Strong evidence indicate that the positive externality of the demonstrations extends to their surrounding region, mainly manifested in the impact of industrial structure change, inspiring collaboration between cities; (3) Such ambitious green transformation has a significant impact on landscape characteristics, which emphasizes the role of landscape management and monitoring. Therefore, this study proposes an industrial integration framework to enhance the transformation of ecosystem service values, to facilitate transition to a green economy in various regions globally. It provides significant managerial insights and practical expertise. The demonstration of China's Two Mountains concept can offer reliable empirical cases to enrich the theory of ecological economics and global sustainable development.

Mitigating boundary pollution: Evidence from China's environmental protection inspection centers

The efficacy of a vertical environmental protection system in managing transboundary pollution has not been extensively explored. Through a quasi-natural experiment facilitated by China's six environmental protection inspection centers (EPICs), this study assesses their impact on boundary pollution intensity and compares it with their effect on non-boundary pollution intensity. The findings demonstrate that the institution of EPICs significantly mitigates the intensity of boundary pollution, with a more pronounced reduction effect compared to non-boundary areas. Analysis of mechanisms reveals that both boundary and non-boundary enterprises achieve a reduction in pollution intensity through the enlargement of production capacities, enhancement of investments in pollution control, and a decrease in total pollution emissions. Given that boundary enterprises exhibit a greater magnitude in reducing total pollution emissions, the resultant effect on pollution intensity reduction is more significant among these entities. Furthermore, heterogeneity analysis indicates that the impact of EPICs on reducing pollution intensity is more substantial among samples with minimal political connections, elevated political incentives, and within heavily polluting industries, with boundary enterprises experiencing a more pronounced influence. This article unveils that strengthening coordination between central and local authorities, alongside fostering corporate actual investment in environmental protection, serves as pivotal mechanisms, offering innovative strategies for global environmental governance and advancing both the practice and theory of sustainable development.

Research and Prospect of Fishery Resource Survey Technology

At present, the sustainable utilization of fishery resources has become a hot topic in the study of fishery sustainable development, and it is also an important research content in the theory and practice of sustainable development. In the 21st century, in addition to climate change and other factors, a large number of artificial Marine economic activities have caused great damage to the ecological environment of the habitat of fishery resources. At present, the protection of fishery resources is imminent, and to protect fishery resources, we need to conduct a good survey of existing fish. Based on the survey technology of fish resources, this paper introduces the traditional survey technology and modern fish resources survey technology in detail, analyzes the existing problems and countermeasures, and provides reference for the study of fish resources survey.

Sustainability-oriented social responsibility and corporate innovation

This paper empirically examines how sustainability-oriented social responsibility influences corporate innovation quantity and radical innovation from the perspectives of environment- and employee-oriented social responsibility. Both forms of social responsibility are found to contribute significantly to corporate innovation. Corporate environment-oriented responsibility increases innovation by increasing R&D. Employee-oriented responsibility increases innovation by helping firms retain talent; by motivating employees, employee-oriented social responsibility promotes both innovation quantity and radical innovation. Furthermore, both environment- and employee-oriented responsibility can alleviate financing constraints, and the positive effects of environment- and employee-oriented responsibility on radical innovation and innovation quantity, respectively, increase total factor productivity. Following sustainable development theory, this paper analyzes the heterogeneous mechanisms of the influences of environment- and employee-oriented social responsibility on corporate innovation and provides empirical evidence of high-quality, innovation-driven corporate development through social responsibility.

Assessing tourism potential for rural tourism development: Promoting SDGs and economic opportunities to the B40 community—A mixed method approach

<p>This research explores the untapped tourism potential of three tranquil villages in Bukit Tengah, Penang, Malaysia. Its overarching strategy is to foster sustainability and economic growth, particularly in the B40 communities of the area. Employing mixed-methods research, the study evaluates tourism products through systematic weighted scoring, questionnaire surveys, and interviews with key informants and tourism stakeholders. The sustainable development theory is used in this study as a conceptual framework for rural tourism development, emphasising the integration of economic, social, and environmental dimensions to ensure long-term viability and benefits for local communities. The results indicate the latent potential for rural tourism development in the three villages, contingent upon garnering local support and collaborating with tourism stakeholders. The study highlights the capacity of rural tourism promotion in generating additional income for the local population, thus promoting both environmental sustainability and community well-being. These findings align with the state government’s goal of achieving balanced tourism growth between the island and Seberang Prai regions. Moreover, this research also aligns with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 8 and 11, recognising the role of tourism in achieving goals such as poverty reduction, environmental sustainability, and community well-being, all of which are relevant to rural tourism development.</p>

Boko Haram insurgency and sustainable development in north-east, Nigeria, 2014-2022

The problem of insecurity and terrorism became heightened in 2014 after a series of attacks by Boko Haram on individuals, properties; government installations, etc. especially in North-East Nigeria. The study examines Boko Haram Insurgency and sustainable development in North East Nigeria, using the thematic approach of Insurgency and sustainable development. Qualitative analysis was strictly used based on purposive sampling gathered from four states of the northeastern part of Nigeria; Borno, Yobe, Bauchi, and Gombe. The Sustainable Development Theory was used to analyze the Insurgency's impact on economic, social, and human development, and the climate/environmental challenges. The researcher used both primary and secondary sources to collect information. The research findings indicate that the North East region and its people suffered grievous economic and political damages from the activities of the insurgents, with the catastrophic collapse of economic, social, and political structures, and processes, and a likelihood of the State itself collapsing and breaking into fragments if the insurgency had continued unabated for a more extended period. The study recommended that the provision of immediate and comprehensive mental health diagnosis, treatment, and counselling will play an essential and critical role in helping people exposed to insurgency recover quickly from the emotional pains and trauma that come with such exposure.

Strategic CSR perspectives hold key to sustainable tourism development in the Society 5.0

The purpose of this paper is to report about research on how Society 5.0 balances Industry 4.0, responsible economic development and resolution of social problems by advancement of perspective corporate social responsibility (CSR) in organizations. Drawing from organisation, sustainable tourism development and social functionalism theories, the author designed an integral model of CSR in the line with goals of a forward looking and socially responsible society. This study includes analysing of present governing principles. The findings of this research paper suggest technology models of Corporate Social Responsibility, a regionally grounded solving of individuals social problems and changing of CSRs environmental, social and economic dimensions according to the circumstances of Society 5.0. Because there is a limit to what people can do, the task of finding s the necessary information from overflowing data and analysing it was a burden and scope of action were restricted due to age factor and degrees of ability. The study was created guidance for improvement of CSR practice in organisations through its responsible operation and behaviour grounded on the governing environmental and social circumstances in modern society. It proposes an integral technology-based model for sustainable economic growth.

STUDY ON THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT OF CHINA'S EXPORT MANUFACTURING ENTERPRISES IN THE YANGTZE RIVER ECONOMIC BELT UNDER THE BACKGROUND OF "DOUBLE CARBON"

As a core part of the national economy, manufacturing is the key to achieving sustainable economic development. However, the development of China's manufacturing industry faces many problems, such as poor industrial structure, lack of key core technologies, and serious overcapacity, which seriously affect the quality of China's manufacturing industry. The Yangtze River Economic Belt not only has great strategic significance for coordinating the development of the east, middle and west China, but also a demonstration belt for the sustainable development of manufacturing industries. Amid the Chinese government's "double carbon" implementation in 2020, how to transform and upgrade these export manufacturing enterprises and find a path to sustainable development is a major challenge they will have to face. Therefore, on the basis of combing domestic and foreign literature, taking "quality-sustainable development-sustainable development of manufacturing industry" as the logic line, and combine the theory of sustainable development, environmental Kuznets curve theory, equatorial principle theory, and corporate governance theory. Second, it measures and evaluates the sustainable development of manufacturing industry in the Yangtze River Economic Belt from 2007 to 2019 through quantitative research. Conclusions: When assessing the status, the quality level of sustainable development of manufacturing industry in the Yangtze River Economic Belt has been steadily improving, more than 80% of the provinces and cities in the Yangtze River Economic Belt have high and medium quality. Finally, targeted countermeasures and proposals are put forward.

A comparative analysis of Chinese green building policies from the central and local perspectives using LDA and SNA

ABSTRACT China’s construction, energy consumption, and emissions are the world’s largest, making green building (GB) crucial for sustainable development and climate action. GB policies play a crucial role in promoting sustainable development and mitigating environmental impacts. This paper presents a comprehensive analysis of China’s GB policies at both central and local levels using natural language processing (NLP), Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA), and semantic network analysis (SNA). It also integrates three theoretical frameworks: Policy Implementation Theory, Sustainable Development Theory, and Innovation Diffusion Theory. The study aims to: (1) compare the characteristics of central and local GB policies; (2) identify problems and propose solutions to improve policy effects and impacts. The results show that both levels of policies cover various sustainability aspects but with different focuses. The SNA reveals the semantic relationships and differences within the policy documents. The study suggests several strategies to enhance GB policy effectiveness and sustainability, based on the three theoretical frameworks. These strategies include providing more specific guidance, enhancing financial support and incentives, promoting technological advancements, strengthening monitoring and evaluation, adopting a more systematic approach, democratizing policy formulation, identifying key stakeholders and influencers, and considering innovation characteristics. This study contributes to the GB policy research and practice in China. It is also the first study to use NLP, LDA, and SNA to comprehensively analyze China’s GB policies, and the first study to apply the three theoretical frameworks to GB policy analysis.

Leveraging small island context to advance and disseminate environmental health and sustainable development knowledge through higher education

Higher education curricula can be designed to effectively leverage the context of small island states to enhance and deliver sustainable development and environmental health education, catering to workforce development, citizenry, and inclusivity. Small islands and developing states, in particular, are left behind in recognizing and promoting the linkages between environmentally sustainable development and the health of its people. This community case study highlights strategies of a Caribbean-based higher learning institution, leveraging the context of a small island state, to close this gap and create equitable access to integrated sustainable development and environmental health education. Tenets of Education for Sustainable Development theory underpin the pedagogical methodologies used in the delivery of the academic program. The curriculum draws on experiential learning, competency-based education, and diversity and inclusion, oriented to active student–student and student-practitioner engagements. Learning is facilitated through the effective dissemination of information, healthy interactions within a diverse community, professional engagements with multi-disciplinary practitioners, problem-solving, and formulation and presentation of perspectives and experiences relating to the Sustainable Development Agenda and Goals. Highly engaging and inclusive academic processes can accentuate students transitioning into the role of teachers, environmentally conscious leaders and citizens, and competent public health practitioners for the local and global workforces.

Does Modernization of Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) Enhance Sustainability in China

This essay examines the challenges and strategies associated with the preservation of intangible cultural heritage (ICH) in the rapidly modernizing context of China. This study is aimed to provide practical guidance for safeguarding ICH by utilizing the sustainable development theory. The research methodology involves conducting comprehensive investigations, analyzing case studies, and examining the social, environmental, and economic dimensions of ICH preservation. Final findings indicate that the modernization of ICH can enhance its sustainability by striking a balance between market demands and the preservation of its intrinsic essence. However, it is crucial to avoid inappropriate modernization that may dilute or commodify ICH, thereby jeopardizing its cultural sustainability. The originality of this study lies in its emphasis on the importance of innovative approaches that consider the perspectives of local communities in promoting and preserving ICH. Overall, this research contributes to the understanding of ICH preservation and provides valuable insights into the development of effective strategies and policies for ensuring its long-term sustainability.

Investment Performance in Green Finance: Assessing the Impact of Environmental Social and Governance Integration

Stakeholder groups raise concerns regarding corporate commitment to climate change issues, as climate change is a big global problem. The impact of eco-innovation and climate governance on business climate change commitment is examined in this research. The pressure on manufacturing companies to become more ecologically conscious or "greener" is growing. This study investigates the function of comprehensive quality management and its impact on corporate sustainability, drawing on the resource-based view and sustainable development theory. This research also concentrated on the function of green innovation as a mediator. The intensity of eco-innovation, determined by dividing environmental expenses over revenues, is a score derived from the Eikon database indicating a company's ability to cut environmental costs. We also discover a positive correlation between climate change commitment and governance. We contend that businesses can mitigate climate change risks and possibilities by incorporating climate change problems into governance. According to our empirical research, managers and politicians should encourage the deployment of eco-innovative technology and include climate change issues in governance to increase business commitment to climate change.

Alleviation of Poverty Through Panchayat Raj Institutions: A Critical Study of Challenges and Prospects in Karnataka, India

Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to: Analyse the role of Panchayat Raj Institutions (PRIs) in alleviating poverty in Karnataka, India. Identify the challenges faced by PRIs in implementing poverty alleviation programs. Explore potential solutions to overcome these challenges and improve program effectiveness. Provide recommendations for strengthening the role of PRIs in poverty alleviation efforts. Theoretical reference: This paper draws on several theoretical frameworks, including: heories of poverty alleviation, focusing on the role of local governance and community participation. Theories of decentralization and the devolution of power to local governments. Theories of social justice and equity, emphasizing the need to address the root causes of poverty. Theories of sustainable development, highlighting the importance of integrating economic, social, and environmental considerations. Method: This research is primarily a doctrinal study, relying on a variety of primary and secondary sources: Primary Sources: Statutory enactments: Constitution of India, 1950, Central Government Schemes implemented by PRIs, The Karnataka Gram Swaraj and Panchayat Raj Act, 1993. Policy documents: National Rural Development Policy, Karnataka State Rural Development Policy, Poverty alleviation scheme guidelines. Secondary Sources: Statistical analysis: Government reports and data sets, Research reports and surveys, Research publications: Peer-reviewed articles and books on poverty alleviation, local governance, and development. Case studies: Examples of successful poverty alleviation programs implemented by PRIs. Results: This research identified several key challenges faced by PRIs in implementing poverty alleviation programs in Karnataka: Corruption: Misuse of funds and resources hinders the effectiveness of programs and prevents benefits from reaching the intended beneficiaries. Caste: Deep-rooted social inequalities limit access to resources and opportunities for marginalized communities. Lack of awareness: Many people remain unaware of available schemes and benefits, leading to underutilization of resources. Limited capacity: PRIs often lack the necessary skills and resources to effectively plan, implement, and monitor programs. Lack of coordination: Poor coordination between different levels of government and stakeholders can lead to delays, duplication of efforts, and inefficient resource allocation. Despite these challenges, the research also identified several promising practices and potential solutions: Transparency and accountability: Initiatives like social audits and public hearings can improve transparency and hold PRI officials accountable for program outcomes. Community participation: Engaging communities in program design and decision-making can ensure programs are relevant and address local needs. Capacity building: Training programs can equip PRI officials with the necessary skills and knowledge to manage programs effectively. Technology and innovation: Utilizing technology can enhance program efficiency, data management, and communication with beneficiaries. Partnerships: Collaborations with NGOs, civil society organizations, and private sector can contribute resources, expertise, and innovation. Conclusion: PRIs play a crucial role in alleviating poverty in India. While they face numerous challenges, there are also promising solutions and opportunities for improvement. By investing in capacity building, promoting transparency, fostering community participation, and embracing technology and innovation, PRIs can be empowered to become more effective agents of poverty alleviation in Karnataka and beyond. Implications of research: This research has several key implications for policy and practice: The need for strengthened capacity building for PRI officials to improve program planning, implementation, and monitoring. The importance of enhancing transparency and accountability in the allocation and use of resources for poverty alleviation programs. The necessity for increased community participation in program design and decision-making to ensure programs are responsive to local needs and priorities. The need for better coordination between central, state, and local governments to ensure effective implementation of poverty alleviation programs. Originality/value: This research contributes to the existing body of knowledge on poverty alleviation by: Providing a detailed analysis of the role of PRIs in Karnataka, India, a context that is often overlooked in research. Identifying unique challenges faced by PRIs in implementing poverty alleviation programs. Offering practical recommendations for strengthening the role of PRIs and improving program effectiveness. Contributing to the understanding of how local governance can be leveraged to achieve sustainable poverty alleviation.

Digital empowerment and win-win co-operation for green and low-carbon industrial development: Analysis of regional differences based on GMM-ANN intelligence models

The study employs two sophisticated computational model validation mechanisms, Artificial Neural Network (ANN) and System Generalized Method of Moments (SYS-GMM), as the theoretical foundation for sustainable development theory. Within this research framework, ANN serves as an intelligent model for autonomously learning input data features by capturing the nonlinear and dynamic relationships within the data. This study thoroughly simulates and analyzes the intricate relationship between digital empowerment and win-win cooperation in green and low-carbon industrial development. The findings indicate a regional decreasing trend in digital empowerment in China, with percentages of 87.39%, 79.05%, and 65.85%, respectively. These regional variations may result from policy, economic structure, and social factors. Notably, a significant trend of win-win cooperation exists between digital empowerment and green low-carbon initiatives. This discovery implies that promoting digital empowerment contributes to reducing green carbon emissions, offering empirical evidence for the positive impact of digital technology on promoting environmental sustainability. This study unveils the empirical trend of digitally-enabled green, low-carbon industry development within the win-win cooperation framework and presents specific recommendations for future sustainability strategies. Not all faultlines are created equal: The heterogeneous impact of TMT faultlines on a firm's ESG disclosure

AbstractDriven by the theory of sustainable development, Chinese firms have gradually realized the importance of ESG disclosure. Executives play a core role in ESG decision‐making, but whether and how top management team (TMT) faultlines affect ESG disclosure has yet to be systematically discussed. Based on the attention‐based view and faultline theory, we select 6456 observations of 910 Chinese A‐share listed firms from 2012 to 2021 as the research object to empirically test the above critical practical issues that have not been fully answered. We find that TMT information‐based faultlines improve firms' ESG disclosure, but TMT social category faultlines reduce firms' ESG disclosure. In addition, the internal mechanism test showed that the TMT's future‐oriented attention plays a mediating role in the above relationship. Finally, we also find that institutional shareholding enhances the positive impact of the TMT's future‐oriented attention on ESG disclosure. This study enriches the literature on TMT faultlines and ESG disclosure, demonstrating that the composition of the TMT and its attention allocation are important factors for promoting firms' ESG disclosure. The conclusions of this study can help firms strengthen their ESG disclosure by building efficient TMTs and provide important implications for firms to better fulfill their ESG responsibilities.

Arsitektur Vernakular yang Mendukung Pembangunan Berkelanjutan di Kampung Adat Tamkesi Kabupaten Timor Tengah Utara

Title: Vernacular Architecture that Supports Sustainable Development in the Tamkesi Traditional Village, North Central Timor Regency
 Indonesia has a wealth of diverse vernacular architecture. Still, in this era of openness to information and outside cultures, it seems the uniqueness of this architecture has become neglected and threatened with loss. Amid the external-internal influences that cause changes in the archipelago's vernacular buildings, the Atoni tribe in the Tamkesi traditional village responds otherwise. This paper examines how the indigenous Atoni people maintain the authenticity and sustainability of the Tamkesi traditional village, its architecture, and their involvement in sustainable development. This research uses descriptive qualitative research methods, while analysis techniques are carried out by coordinating data collection techniques through books, journals, articles, and an understanding of the theory of vernacular architecture and sustainable development. Based on the results of the analysis show that the Tamkesi traditional village is one of the oldest villages on the island of Timor, East Nusa Tenggara, which is still sustainable today and has developed from generation to generation based on the concept of local cultural wisdom and harmonization with nature.
