Based on the Theory of Phlegm and Blood Stasis, the Mechanism and Research Progress of Acupuncture in the Treatment of Posterior Circulation Ischemic Vertigo were Analyzed

In recent years, the theory of phlegm and blood stasis has been more and more widely used in the treatment of various diseases, and has become the focus and hotspot of theoretical research and clinical attention of traditional Chinese medicine. Acupuncture therapy is widely used in clinical practice because of its convenient operation, small side effects, economical and practical characteristics. However, there is no systematic and integrated study on the treatment of posterior circulation ischemic vertigo by acupuncture and moxibustion based on the theory of phlegm and blood stasis. The purpose of this paper is to systematically explore the effect of acupuncture treatment based on the theory of phlegm and blood stasis on posterior circulation ischemic vertigo, including the effect of different acupuncture types on patients with posterior circulation ischemic vertigo of phlegm and blood stasis. In addition, through the combing of relevant literature, the mechanism of acupuncture and moxibustion in the treatment of posterior circulation ischemic vertigo of phlegm and blood stasis type was summarized, which provided reference for future clinical treatment and research.

The concept of civil war remains relatively underdeveloped given a steadily increasing interest of political philosophers in the study of civil conflicts in general. The multi-layered genealogy of this notion includes elements of significantly different approaches to its definition. The two divergent lines of interpretation of the phenomenon of civil wars can be traced back to the ancient philosophy: the Greek stasis and the Roman bellum civile. In recent years, the concept of stasis is making a comeback to the academic circles due to its use in the works of Nicole Loraux, Giorgio Agamben and a number of other authors. At the same time, the dominant approach to analyzing civil wars is based primarily on their perception in line with the Roman concept, which presupposes a monistic social ontology model and has significant limitations when applied to modern conditions. In the article, the author analyzes the main features of the perception of the phenomenon of civil wars in the ancient Greek and Roman philosophy. Based on the texts of Plato and Aristotle, who elaborated the theory of stasis in the most systematic way, the author demonstrates that admitting the possibility to overcome just the extreme external manifestations of stasis (but not to eradicate it altogether) inevitably impacts the evaluation of the importance of pluralism in the life of a political community, the interpretation of the actions of the defeated party and memory politics. Hence, the author analyzes how the perception of a civil conflict as a phenomenon inherent in the life of the polis and, in one form or another, an “inevitable evil”, can again be relevant in the context of the philosophical and political discussions of the 21st century.

According to Lei Zhongyi, most patients with coronary heart disease are middle-aged and elderly, with deficiency of Qi, deficiency of Qi and Blood, deficiency of Yin and Yang, deficiency of Qi to transport Blood, stagnation of Blood, imbalance of Qi, stagnation of Qi and Blood, invasion of Cold, stagnation of Cold and Blood, internal growth of Phlegm, mutual obstruction of Phlegm and Stasis, internal gathering of Heat and Poison, stagnation of Heat and Blood. The disease is characterized by deficiency of the root and the symptoms, with a mixture of deficiency and reality. The deficiencies include Qi deficiency, Qi-Yin deficiency and Yin-Yang deficiency, while the symptoms include blood stasis, cold clotting, phlegm stagnation, Qi stagnation and heat toxicity. Lei Zhongyi has devoted himself to the study of activating blood stasis and using the method of activating blood stasis to treat angina pectoris in coronary heart disease with remarkable results. Based on clinical observations, he proposed the theory of mutual integration of phlegm and blood stasis in the treatment of chest paralysis and heart pain. The theory of phlegm and stasis of blood is often combined, and the two are both pathological products and causative factors that intertwine and play a very important role in the development of coronary heart disease.

Clinical Application and Experimental Research Progress of Huo-Luo-Xiao-Ling-Dan in Orthopedics and Traumatology

Huo-Luo-Xiao-Ling-Dan (HLXLD) comes from the famous doctor Zhang Xichun's "Intergrating Chinese and Western Medicine". The prescription has the function of promoting blood circulation and dredging collaterals, removing blood stasis and generating new blood, relieving swelling and pain. It is often used in the orthopedic department of Traditional Chinese medicine for the treatment of swelling and pain caused by qi and blood stasis caused by trauma or internal injury. And the prescription often has the effect of "simple, convenient, cheap and effective". It has good curative effect for many orthopedic diseases such as acute lumbar sprain, lumbar disc prolapse, rheumatic lumbago, knee osteoarthritis, fractures and postoperative complications. This paper reviews the efficacy of HLXLD based on the theory of blood stasis in Chinese medicine, combined with the clinical application and experimental studies of HLXLD in recent years, in order to provide reference for the treatment of orthopedic diseases.

Efficacy and Safety of Traditional Chinese Medicine in the Treatment of Immune Infertility Based on the Theory of "Kidney Deficiency and Blood Stasis": A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Objective This study aims to evaluate the efficacy and safety of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) therapy of tonifying kidney and activating blood circulation (TKABC) based on the theory of “kidney deficiency and blood stasis” for the treatment of immune infertility. Methods Six electronic databases, including the Cochrane Library, PubMed, EMBASE, the China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wanfang Data, and VIP information database, were searched from inception to January 2021 to identify eligible studies of randomized controlled trials (RCTs). The primary outcome measurements were the total effective rate and pregnancy rate, and the secondary outcome measurements included the negative conversion rate of serum antibodies and the incidence of adverse effects. The quantitative synthesis was performed using the Review Manager 5.3 software. The chi-square statistic and I2 statistic were employed to investigate statistical heterogeneity. The fixed-effects model was used for a low heterogeneity (I2 < 50%), and the random-effects model was applied if heterogeneity was moderate (50% < I2 < 75%). Funnel plots were used to evaluate potential reporting bias when more than ten eligible studies were included. Results Thirteen RCTs involving 1298 patients with immune infertility of kidney deficiency and blood stasis were included. Compared with conventional group, TCM TKABC therapy showed a significant improvement on the total effective rate (RR: 1.38; 95% CI: 1.30,1.47; and I2 = 0%), pregnancy rate (RR: 2.04; 95% CI: 1.73, 2.40; and I2 = 30%), negative conversion rates of AsAb (RR: 1.42; 95% CI: 1.12,1.79; and I2 = 62%), AEmAb rates (RR: 1.21; 95% CI: 1.04,1.41; and I2 = 0%), and AhCGAb with less adverse effects (RR: 0.24; 95% CI: 1.73, 2.40; and I2 = 55%). However, the negative conversion rate of AoAb and ACAb showed no significant statistical difference. Conclusions Our review suggests that TCM TKABC therapy based on the theory of kidney deficiency and blood stasis appears to be an effective and safe approach for patients with immune infertility. However, the methodological quality of included RCTs was unsatisfactory, and it is necessary to verify its effectiveness with more well-designed and high-quality multicenter RCTs.

The Definition Debate: From Paradigm Shift to Bend in the Road

The ancient theory of stasis provides a framework to work through a complex debate such as we in ICOM face over the definition of the museum. Its methodology helps determine just where the impasses lie so they can be separately resolved. Its philosophy sees these impasses not as stopping points but resting points, necessary bends in the road that allow all parties to address their concerns and come to new consensus that can lead the debate in creative directions. Rather than seeing arguments like the definition debate as incompatible values struggles, stasis sees them as complex and recursive arguments and searches for ways forward. I will use stasis to break down and analyse the current debate over a definition and then discuss ways a stasis perspective can help ICOM debate more productively.

Employment discrimination statutes prohibit employers from discriminating against individuals on the basis of certain protected characteristics, such as race or sex. For intentional discrimination claims, plaintiffs often attempt to prove an employer’s discriminatory intent with comparator evidence attempting to show that the plaintiff was treated differently than a similarly situated individual outside the plaintiff’s protected class. Although plaintiffs often invoke comparator evidence to prove discriminatory intent, comparator evidence may also be helpful in disproving that alleged intent. This Article identifies the four primary ways employers use comparator evidence to defeat employment discrimination claims, and shows how courts have analyzed those defenses with a particular emphasis on recent decisions of the United States Courts of Appeal. From there, this Article presents a unique framework for defendants to employ in creating a defense to an employment discrimination claim involving comparator proof, one modeled from the theory of stasis from classical Greek and Roman rhetoric.

Influences of Xinnaoning capsules on aorta calcium sensing receptor of rats with myocardial infarction and endothelial protection mechanisms based on the theory of phlegm and blood stasis

Objective To observe the impacts of Xinnaoning capsules on the aortic intimal structure, serum levels of diponectin (APN) and calcium sensing receptor (CaSR) expression in rats with myocardial infarction, and explore the endothelial protection mechanisms of Xinnaoning. Methods 15 male Sprague Dawley (SD) rats in sham operation group were randomly selected from 60 rats, the rest 45 rats were fed with high fat diet for 6 weeks and received coronary artery ligation operation. The successful modeling rats were randomly divided into model group, western medicine group and traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) group, and fed with high fat diet for 8 weeks. The sham operation group fed with normal diet. The western medicine group and TCM group received atorvastatin and Xinnaoning capsules, respectively; the sham operation group and model group received same amount of distilled water. After treatment of 4 weeks, the aortic intimal structure was observed by hematoxylin-eosin (HE); the serum levels of triacylglycerol (TG), total cholesterol (TC), low density lipoprotein (LDL) and high density lipoprotein (HDL) were measured by microplate test; serum levels of APN and CaSR expression were determined by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and Western blot, respectively. Results Compared with sham operation group, aortic intimal structure derangement and plaque formation in intima in model group, and serum levels of TG, TC, LDL and CaSR expression were increased; HDL and APN were decreased (P 0.05). Infertility caused by salpingitis treated based on theory of kidney deficiency and blood stasis

Infertility caused by salpingitis is one of the main causes of secondary infertility in women. In recent years,the incidence has been increasing year by year. Modern medicine believes that this disease is a complication due to incomplete or delayed treatment of acute and chronic salpingitis,with no satisfactory drug therapy at present. Clinical therapies mainly include surgical treatment,interventional treatment and assisted reproductive technology. After summarizing the experience of predecessors and the clinical practice of treating infertility for many years,the author considers that the disease location is the cell veins,and the nature is mostly mixed of deficiency and excess. Kidney deficiency and blood stasis are the main pathogenesis of infertility caused by salpingitis. Blood stasis is the pathological basis,while kidney deficiency is the fundamental pathogenesis. Long-term kidney deficiency will lead to blood stasis,and blood stasis will aggravate kidney deficiency. Both of them are cause and effect to each other. Infertility caused by salpingitis is difficult to cure. Based on the theory of kidney deficiency and blood stasis,the basic principles of clinical treatment are tonifying kidney and activating blood circulation,removing blood stasis and dredging collaterals. Oral administration with traditional Chinese medicine combined with external therapies,such as enema,external application,acupuncture and moxibustion,have been achieved a good efficacy in repairing fallopian tube function and improving pregnancy rate. Therefore,the treatment of infertility caused by salpingitis based on " kidney deficiency and blood stasis" is worthy of further discussion in both clinical and experimental aspects.

Arguing Along Fault-lines: A Rhetorical Analysis of Public Divides over Wildlife Comeback

Across Europe, several wildlife species are making surprising comebacks. The returnees help create conservation success stories, but at the same time are subject of commotion and conflict in many countries. This article examines public discussions surrounding the returns of the red fox and the wild boar to Flanders (northern Belgium) in various media and forums, ranging from news and social media to the Flemish Parliament. The aim of the research is to provide insights into the role of rhetoric in the continuation and exacerbation of public divides. The classical theory of stasis is used as a systematic method for locating the points of disagreement within a debate and understanding the discussants' rhetorical practices at these points. The analysis reveals a constant striving for 'logic' either to reaffirm the own standpoints or to subvert those of the opponent. The article demonstrates how the discussants' efforts to provide conclusive arguments have the unplanned result of even greater tensions and distances between groups in society. In this respect, two relevant tendencies are presented that hinder opportunities for reconciling positions and novel ideas to emerge: 1) the limited elaboration and deliberation on the issues of contention; 2) the linking of these issues to socio-political relationships.

Discussion of acupuncture for diabetic peripheral neuropathy based on blood stasis theory

Based on the understanding of TCM and western medicine on diabetes mellitus (DM) and diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN), the relationship between DPN pathogenesis and blood stasis of TCM is discussed from the perspective of modern medicine. It is indicated blood stasis is the key pathogenesis to DPN, and a two-step acupuncture treatment of DPN from the theory of blood stasis is proposed. The first step is to analyze the pathogenesis of blood stasis, which could block the progress of the disease and diminish the symptoms. The second step is to apply acupuncture for pathological result of blood stasis by following the principle of eliminating exogenous pathogen, as a result, the purpose of treating both symptoms and root cause is achieved.

The Mechanism for the Effect of Chinese Medicine on Strait Episode of Complex Diseases.

Complex diseases always involve some strait episode, such as myocardial hypertrophy and fibrosis caused by hypertension, microcirculation dysfunction and injury in heart, brain, lever, and intestine following ischemia and reperfusion, endotoxin induced multiorgan injury, and recovery after intestinal mucosa damage, for which intervention by a single medicine remains unsatisfied in clinic.Chinese medicine has been applied in clinic for more than two thousand years, which presents as a healthcare system using compound formula preparation, treatment based on syndrome differentiation and individualization thus has advantage in dealing with strait episode of complex diseases. However, the mechanism underlying Chinese medicine is not fully understood up till now.This report will explain the mechanisms underlying the beneficial role of Chinese medicine in therapy of strait episode of complex diseases based on the resent outcomes in study of aforementioned complex diseases. The speaker, using the theory of blood stasis and activating blood to remove stasis in Chinese medicine, classified microcirculation dysfunction induced by different causes, such as ischemia and reperfusion, stress, LPS, common cold, investigated the pathogenesis and progressing of each of which. Furthermore, the report explored the material basis and mechanism for compound formula of Chinese medicine with potential of tonifying Qi and activating blood, removing heat to cool blood, identified the ingredient in the compound formula responsible for respective effect.(Presented at the 1920th Meeting, June 3, 2016).

A Modern Theory of Stasis

Abstract This article revisits stasis theory, the rhetorical tool that outlines the strategic options of a defendant in a moral or legal accusation. By analyzing the burden of proof of an accuser and deducing a comprehensive model for a modern theory of stasis from the resulting obligations, it develops a system of ten vital staseis (key issues), each of which is by itself sufficient for a defense in front of a reasonable audience. The resulting modern theory of stasis can be a useful heuristic tool for the rhetorical defense against moral and legal accusations as well as for the systematic analysis of judicial speeches and debates.

Modes and Mechanisms of Organizational Change

Extant research investigates how organizations react to a changing environment, characterized by technological discontinuities or demand transformations. Existing theoretical approaches and empirical studies usually focus on one mode of response such as either radical or incremental change or stasis and some of them take into account the driving mechanism of the mode of change they address. As these focused approaches miss a continuous explanation for multiple modes of change, our analysis simultaneously addresses the range of organizational behavior modes driven by the interaction of their underlying mechanisms. In particular, this analysis ac-counts for interactive and nonlinear effects. We present a continuous theory of organizational change and stasis that explains how organizations react to a changing environment. It is a theory of the interaction of reinforcing mechanisms—often considered to create path dependent behav-ior—with goal seeking mechanisms—causing adaptive behavior. This work informs how elements of theory, most often disconnected in other work, can be integrated. It informs about this integration’s nonlinear consequences, suggesting why theories of adaptation as well as of path dependence benefit from each other for focusing on constraints and for managing different organizational behavior patterns.

The Ends of Stasis: Spinoza as a Reader of Agamben

Agamben contends that ‘There is … no such thing as a stasiology, a theory of stasis or civil war’ in the western understanding of sovereignty. His own vision of a politics beyond biopolitics explicitly culminates in the end of stasis. How can we understand Agamben’s political theology by investigating his use of stasis? Stasis is particularly suited to an inquiry into political theology. It is linked to politics, since its primary meaning is political change, revolution, or civil war, as well as to the theological, since it denotes immobility or immutability, which were attributes of God. Stasis, then, presents the simultaneous presence and absence that exemplifies the unassimilable relation of the sacred and the secular in political theology. The question is: Does Agamben remain true to this unassimilable relation? Or does he betray it the moment he calls for an end to biopolitics? Agamben’s reading of Spinoza will provide useful clues in answering these questions.

Endoscopic treatment of multiple prostatic calculi causing urinary retention

Although prostatic calculi are relatively common, the etiology of these stones is not clear. We report a case with multiple prostatic calculi causing urinary obstruction and a concomitant bladder stone. We treated these stones endoscopically. We found a lot of different sized stones endoscopically, some protruding into the urethra, some filling different cavities on the prostate. So these cavities suggest prostatic calculi may occur related to intraprostatic reflux in the congenital or acquired diverticulum of the prostatic tissue. In addition, the stone composition of the bladder and prostatic stones was the same. All of these results show that the origin of bladder and prostatic stones can be the same. This case also supports a theory of intraprostatic reflux and urine stasis.
