Pd-Catalyzed P–C Cross-Coupling Reactions for Versatile Triarylphosphine Synthesis

Practical and versatile syntheses of tertiary phosphine derivatives have been achieved by palladium-catalyzed deformylative P-C cross-coupling reactions of hydroxymethylphosphine derivatives. Sequential couplings of orthogonally protected precursors provide a simple and practical route toward a variety of tertiary phosphine derivatives having aryl substituents in any combination.

Biologically‐Active Gold(III) Complexes

A review is given of the background to and results of the succesful pharmacological testing of [AuX2(damp)] (X = Cl, OAc; damp = 2−Me2 NCH2C6 H4) against a range of microbes, fungi and tumouts, culminating in in vivo xenografts of ZR-1-75. These are the first fully evaluated gold(III) complexes. The activity and reactions of the diacetato-complex bear a resemblance to cisplatin, and some of the relevant chemistry is discussed. Preliminary screening data for C,P-chelated tertiary phosphine derivatives of gold(III) are presented.

Organolithium Displacement of Aryl Anions from Tertiary Phosphine Derivatives of Diphenyl Ether

Abstract Methyllithium displaces a phenyl anion from 10-phenyl-10H-phenoxaphosphine to produce a 70:30 mixture of 10-methyl-10H-phenoxaphosphine and starting phosphine. Butyllithium gives 50% conversion to 10-butyl-10H-phenoxaphosphine. These reactions could take place either by a one-step nucleophilic displacement or by ring cleavage followed by recyclization. To show the feasibility of the two-step process, non-heterocyclic lithiated tertiary phosphines were generated and shown to cyclize to phenoxaphosphines. For example, reaction of 2-phenoxyphenyldiphenylphosphine with phenyllithium produced 10-phenyl-10H-phenoxaphosphine (by lithiation ortho to oxygen followed by cyclization) along with triphenylphosphine (by direct displacement of 2-lithiodiphenyl ether). Other compounds prepared in this work: 2,2′-bis(diphenylphosphino)-diphenyl ether, bis(2-phenoxyphenyl)phenylphosphine, tris(2-phenoxyphenyl)phosphine, 4-carboxy-10-phenyl-10H-phenoxaphosphine, and the oxides and sulfides of the phosphines.

Investigation of solvation effects on the solid‐state 31P NMR spectra of tertiary phosphine derivatives and metal complexes

AbstractAn investigation of bis(diphenylphosphino)methane dioxide (dppm dioxide), cis‐[PtCl2(PPh3)2] cis‐[PtCl2{P(p‐C6H4Cl)3}2] and cis‐[PtBr2(PPh3)2] by solid‐state CP/MAS 31P NMR spectroscopy, x‐ray powder diffraction and 1H, 13C{1H} and 31P{1H} solution NMR methods illustrates the sensitivity of the appearance of solid‐state NMR spectra to solvation effects in crystalline solids. The presence or absence of solvent of crystallization and the slow loss of solvent of crystallization from a sample over time are clearly manifested in the solid‐state NMR spectra as the local site symmetry in the solid is changed. These effects have led workers to report different data for a given compound when, in fact, different types of solvates were investigated.

η-Cyclopentadienyl molybdenum imido compounds; halo, alkene, alkyne, allyl and tertiary phosphine derivatives

The new imido compounds [M(η-C5H4R)Cl2(NR′)]*(M = Mo, R = H, R′= But, Prn or Ph; M = Mo, R = Me, R′= But or Ph; M = W, R = H, R′= But), [Mo (η-C5H4R)Cl(L)(NR′)](R = H, R′= But, L =η-C2H4, or η-C2Me2; R = Me, R′= But, L = C2H4*; R = H, R′= Ph, L =η-C2Me2), [{Mo(η-C5H4R)(η-C2H4)(NBut)}2Hg]*(R = H, Me), [Mo (NBut)Cl2(PMe3)3], [Mo(η-C5H5)Cl3(NBut)] and the π-allyl complex [Mo(η-C5H4Me)(η-C3H5)(NBut)] are synthesised; *indicates that the crystal structure has been determined.

Intramolecular exchange in tertiary phosphine derivatives of dodecacarbonyltriosmium

Intramolecular tertiary phosphine exchange mechanisms in the compounds 1,2-[Os 3(CO) 10(PMe 2Ph) 2] and 1,2,3-[Os 3(CO) 9{P(OMe) 3}L 2] (L = PMe 2Ph or PPh 3) have been studied by 31P and 13C NMR methods. The 13CO NMR results rule out a mechanism involving bridging carbonyl forms in favour of one involving axial—equatorial CO exchange at the same rate as phosphine exchange.
