Design of a Web Portal for Assertive Diagnosis and Cognitive Evolution in Children with Special Abilities

A world beyond the five senses is what opens the doors to new expectations for children with special abilities, as they lack a variety of factors due to a prejudiced society with middle-aged life stereotypes. We will use the SCRUM method to make the appropriate changes in a short time this established to norms and laws both in education and health, what we develop is a web application that generates a diagnosis for cognitive evolution in children with special abilities. The number of special children who tried the software have made great strides in terms of individual performance. The studies carried out serve the teachers as health professionals who attend to the child with a report, in order to also contribute to the individual and social improvement that the children with special abilities will present through the therapies they need.

Assessing the internal factor affecting the bank profitability in Indonesia: Case of dual banking system

Purpose – In an uncertain economic condition, maintaining companies’ profitability is essential. This study aims to analyze and assess the factors that affect bank profitability by focusing on internal factors such as capital, size, asset quality, and liquidity risk. This study also observed the effect of Islamic and conventional banking in Indonesia with a comprehensive profitability analysis as measured by ROA, ROE, and NIM/NOM.Methodology – The method used in this research was panel data regression. The data studied were derived from the quarterly reports of Islamic and conventional banking in Indonesia for five years, from 2016 to 2020.Findings – The results showed that conventional banking in Indonesia had a higher level of profitability than Islamic banking. The profitability of conventional banks is significantly influenced by the level of equity, size, CKPN, and LDR. On the other hand, Islamic banking in Indonesia generally has a lower level of profitability, but in terms of individual performance, the value was not inferior to conventional banking. Variables that significantly influence the profitability of Islamic banking included equity, CKPN, and FDR.Implication – Banks in Indonesia must improve their performance so that the development of asset size can be in line with the level of profitability generated, maintain asset quality so that the health of the bank is maintained, and has proportional equity and LDR/FDR value.Originality – This research used three profitability ratios: ROA, ROE, and NIM/NOM, and analyzed Islamic and conventional banking, considering that Indonesia has a dual banking system, so the analysis carried out was more comprehensive.

Data literacy and the cognitive challenges of a data-rich business environment: an analysis of perceived data overload, technostress and their relationship to individual performance

PurposeConsidering the cognitive challenges associated with a data-rich business environment, this research aims to investigate the relationship between data literacy (DL), perceived data overload (PDO), and technostress (TS), besides the effect of these constructs on professional's individual performance (IP).Design/methodology/approachThrough survey research, the authors collected data from 321 professionals who work in data-rich and highly technological business environments. To test the hypotheses proposed, the authors developed the partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) procedures.FindingsThe results showed that DL is positively associated with IP and negatively with PDO. PDO is positively associated with TS and negatively with IP. The authors found no significant negative association between TS and IP.Research limitations/implicationsWith this research, the authors seek to contribute to the gap in the literature concerning two cognitive challenges associated with data-rich business environments: PDO and TS, analyzing from the point of view of the individual, and highlighting the importance of DL in this context.Practical implicationsThe results can assist managers in effectively being concerned with the DL level of their workforce. This is important considering not only the professionals' IP but also the cognitive challenges such as PDO and TS.Originality/valueThe innovation of this study lies in the empirical analysis of DL in the business context and its relationship with two cognitive challenges inherent in data-rich environments: PDO, and TS. Besides, the authors highlight the importance of understanding such phenomena in terms of IP.

In teamwork, is the whole sum of the parts?

Team work is one of the most common educational strategies in Higher Education Institutions, documenting widely that cooperative learning has advantages in terms of individual performance, comprehensive knowledge, school performance and even in school adaptation. Even though it has its benefits, the general analysis concentrates on the product that is the result of team work, there is little systematic work about the process, that is, the way in which individual competences are intertwined to satisfy group criteria. A first step in this direction requires the specific identification of individual competence in each member of a team and to later observe how they are coordinated given a collective task. In this sense, a study was conducted with dyads of participants whom were identified as having compatible (same functional type) or incompatible (different functional type) which were exposed to a task that required the conjoint performance of both members of the dyad, the task could either correspond o not correspond with the competence primacy identified for such dyads members. Results are analyzed in terms of the correspondence between task complexity and competence primacy of dyad members. Conclusion are drawn as to the possible educational implications for work team organization.

A comparison of well-peer mentored and non-peer mentored athletes’ perceptions of satisfaction

The purpose of the present study was to compare well-peer mentored and non-peer mentored athletes’ perceptions of satisfaction. A total of 444 intercollegiate athletes (272 well-peer mentored and 172 non-peer mentored) from a variety of sport teams participated in the study. Athletes from both well-peer mentored and non-peer mentored groups reported their satisfaction levels using the Athlete Satisfaction Questionnaire. The results of a MANOVA and follow-up post hoc ANOVAs showed that well-peer mentored athletes were significantly more satisfied than their non-peer mentored counterparts in terms of individual performance, personal dedication, team task contribution, team social contribution, team integration, ethics, ability utilisation and training and instruction. Overall, the findings suggest that athletes who are well-peer mentored by a teammate perceive higher satisfaction levels with various aspects of their athletic experience than athletes who are not peer mentored by a teammate. Given these positive findings, practitioners (i.e., coaches, sport psychology consultants) should inform athletes on the benefits of peer-to-peer mentoring. The practical implications of the results and strategies to promote peer athlete mentoring relationships in sport are highlighted.

Does Health Promotion Climate Positively Impact Performance?

Despite the greater importance companies place on employee health, only a few studies have explored the impact of health promotion in the workplace on individual and team performance. Drawing on the broaden-and-build, it was hypothesised that organisations' health promotion climate influences individuals' performance. Data were collected from 495 employees on 81 teams in 11 Korean companies. In this study, I conducted HLM to understand the direct relationship between health promotion climate and perceived performance of employees into the organisation. On the other hands, to control some variables which can directly and/or indirectly impact on perceived performance, I controlled leadership, self-efficacy, work-family facilitation and family-work facilitation. This study supports the idea that there is a positive relationship between health promotion climate and perceived performance of employees. The question of great workplace and performance impacts individual performance has been a topic of discussion for a long time. Here, I empirically showed the positive relationship between great workplace and individual performance. In the past, few companies supported health promotion programs of their employees in terms of increasing employee health and performance as well. However, many companies do not support this kind of approaches to increase individual performance, because it looks another cost. Taking into account the new finding of this study, positive relationship between health promotion climate and individual performance, it will be more valuable management perspectives in terms of individual performance.

OLDER ADULTS’ STRATEGIC BEHAVIOR: EFFECTS OF INDIVIDUAL VERSUS COLLABORATIVE COGNITIVE TRAINING

Changes in strategic behavior were examined in older married couples participating in a cognitive intervention study. Participants were randomly assigned to: Questionnaire Control, Individual Training, or Collaborative Training. Trained participants completed inductive reasoning training sessions at home individually or as a couple. Participants were assessed at baseline, immediately following training, and a 3-month posttest. Overall, greater strategy use was related to higher ability performance across all groups. Collaborative and individual training groups showed a similar magnitude of strategy use at both posttests in terms of individual performance. Maintenance of strategy use on a collaborative task favored the collaborative group.

The Process of Motivation

Individuals have a variety of changing, often conflicting, needs and expectations which they need to satisfy in a number of different ways, and individuals' particular situations have a direct bearing on motivation. The work of Porter and Lawler considers the relationship between motivation, satisfaction and performance as separate variables, in terms of the expectancy/valence theory (people being influenced by the expected result of their actions and the valence, anticipated satisfaction, deriving from this). Managers and supervisors need to give attention to the appropriateness of rewards in terms of individual performance, establish clear relationships between effort, performance and rewards, and clearly establish procedures for evaluating individual levels of performance.

Peer Interaction in Same- and Mixed-Age Triads in Relation to Chronological Age and Incentive Condition

CHILD DEVELOPMENT, 1976, 47, 707-714. Task performance was compared in sameand mixed-age triads of firstand third-grade children. Half the triads worked for individual rewards, while the remainder worked for group rewards. Considered as units, the mixed-age triads performed as well as the same-age triads, although there was more conversation in the latter. Considered in terms of individual performance, mixed-age conditions produced different effects at the 2 grade levels. Mixed-age conditions stimulated greater task activity than same-age conditions among the third graders, but not among the first graders. Performance was better with group than with individual rewards, but the effects of age mixture did not depend on incentive condition.

Standard Error Measurement in Speech Discrimination Testing

Speech discrimination data obtained by sequential testing with 12 normal-hearing listeners were described by Bode and Carhart at the 80th Meeting of the Society in Houston [J. Acoust. Soc. Amer. 49, 95(A) (1971)]. Group results showed that sequential testing provided discrimination functions essentially identical to those measured by conventional constant stimulus methods. Test-retest effects were small and quantifiable. We now have analyzed our results in terms of individual performance and will report these data for scores obtained both within and between test sessions. Of particular interest to us is the fact that a standard error (SE) can be calculated for individuals with sequential testing, even using only one test. Such a determination is not possible with orthodox discrimination test procedures. There are many circumstances, particularly in clinical audiology, in which an investigator or clinician would like to have both a rapid efficient estimate of the SE associated with his measure and one which can be calculated for an individual during a single test administration. Such a calculation would allow the examiner to reach conclusions, for any given obtained score, regarding the probable limits of corresponding true scores. An experimental inquiry into the concept of perceptual defence.

Experiments on concept of perceptual defence can be considered as result of two research interests: (1) attempts to relate experimental work to clinical findings and (2) attempts to determine precise variables involved in association between personality and perception. concept of perceptual defence is based on fact that subjects appear to show higher thresholds to taboo words and that autonomic responses to such words may be made before they are correctly recognized. This concept has been criticized on grounds that results may be more simply interpreted in terms of factors of word frequency and of suppression of responses by subject. Other work has attempted to show that individual performance requires prime consideration.This study has attempted to take account of these factors. A word‐association test consisting of most frequent words in Thorndike and Lorge count was given to all subjects. On basis of each subject's results, two lists were prepared for each subject, each list consisting of emotional and neutral words. A tachistoscopic presentation to subject of one list was followed two weeks later by a presentation of second list. It was found that six of twelve subjects showed higher and two subjects lower thresholds to emotional words on both occasions. correlation between two tests in terms of individual performance was highly significant.Analysis of this and other experiments shows that importance of factors of word frequency when familiar material is used remains to be determined. Further, some means of studying such factors other than by use of word counts is necessary. It is suggested that a quantifiable ‘hypothesis’ or ‘set’ theory possesses greatest advantages for an understanding of this area of research.
