İlhami Güler'in Kur'ân Hakkındaki Görüşlerinin Kur'ân ve İslâm Dini Açısından Değerlendirilmesi

Bu çalışma Kur’ân’ın Mahiyeti ve Yorumu adlı çalışması çerçevesinde İlhami Güler’in Kur’an hakkındaki düşünce ve iddialarını tahlil etmeyi amaçlamaktadır. Yazarın ilham kaynağı olarak gördüğü bu eseri, farklı zaman dilimlerinde kaleme aldığı üç kısa yazısından meydana gelmektedir.

QUR'ANIC TRANSLATION IN THE FRAME OF COMMUNICATION (An Evaluative Study of the Translation of Message Terms in the Qur'anic Translation of the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia)

Purpose: This paper critically examines the translation of message terms in Qur’anic Translation of the Ministry of Religious Affairs of Republic of Indonesia.
 Methodology: The writers analyzed the case through three steps. The first step, is analyzing the context. The context covers people who involved in the process of communication; communicator, communicant, and communication environment. The second step, is analyzing key word of communication, especially to look for its derivation and its denotative meaning. The third step, is determining the indicators of key word. Finally, is exploring the implication of indicator in communication activities.
 Result: The study result shows that some translations of the terms are difficult to understand due to illogical use of Indonesian language. Moreover, some translations of the term do not refer the context of the verse. In addition, some translations of the term are overlapped. These translations do not reflect Qur’an-based communication and eventually do not support the integration of religion and science.
 Recommendation: New translation based on a good Indonesian language, context of verse and refers to communication studies will produce a better understanding of Qur’anic verses of communication. Moreover, it is recommended to use translations of key words that writers offer in this paper as an alternative. In addition, giving footnote for key words is another alternative that should be considered by translator team.

MOTIF KORUPSI DALAM AL-QUR’AN PERSPEKTIF TINDAKAN SOSIAL

Corruption is one of the actions included in the category of extra-ordinary crime. A large number of this criminal activity has led many researchers to analyze the sources and causes from various aspects, including theological aspects. Qur'an, the main guide that governs all aspects of life, does not specifically mention this term. However, some terms in Qur'an have an equivalent meaning and characteristics with corruption. This research uses a thematic method to collect verses that have the same theme and uses the social action approach of Alfred Schutz. Through the thematic method, this research found a term mentioned in the Qur'an that has a meaning and character equivalent to corruption. These terms are scattered in several Surahs in the Qur'an, namely al-Ghulul contained in the Q.S. Ali Imran (3): 161; al-hirabah in Q.S. al-Maidah (5): 33; al-idla' in the Q.S. al-Baqarah (2): 188; al-suht in Q.S. al-Maidah (5): 42, 62 and 63; and the term al-khasr in the Q.S. al-Mutaffifin (83): 3. By analyzing word structure and its chronological context, this study found two types of motives that underlie the act of corruption. First, because motive which is always related to property. This motive does not stand alone but is influenced by previous traditions and behavior that have accustomed acts of corruption. Second, in order to motive which is influenced by one's desire to achieve certain goals, thus encouraging acts of corruption.

Qur’anic terminology, translation, and the Islamic conception of religion

ABSTRACTA key question in the field of religious studies is the extent to which ‘religion’ as a concept ‘translates’ in various cultural contexts, with some arguing that it is a purely Western and academic construct. In this article, I argue that the Islamic understanding of religion as a universal category of human experience with various, distinct manifestations is similar to the concept of religion widely operative in the academic discipline of comparative religion; for this reason, Islamic terms related to religion can easily be translated into terminology broadly found in the study of religion, including the term ‘religion’ itself. I argue, however, that the apparent ease with which one can translate Islamic religious terminology may obscure some important nuances in the Islamic conception of religion that make it both distinct and internally coherent with its broader view of human nature and of its own particular religious system relative to others. Attentiveness to the semantic range and usage of some key terms in Qur’anic and Islamic terminology regarding religion yields a distinctly Islamic conception of religion that is independent of Western, academic theories of religion.

A CONTENT-BASED ANALYSIS OF FUZULI’S AZERBAIJANI TURKISH POEMS TESTED AGAINST QUR’ANIC THEMES

Over the decades, it was shown that world literature and culture are two inseparable parts. Religion which is part of a nation’s culture can be linked to literature. Ever since the day the holy Qur’an has been revealed to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), a large number of scholars have worked on it in terms of translation, content etc. The present study aims at analyzing Azerbaijani poet, writer and thinker Muhammad bin Suleyman aka Fuzuli’s Azerbaijani Turkish poems in terms of Qur’anic themes. The corpus of the study consisted of some of his poems which were selected randomly and scanned in order to see the common themes used in them. Then, the themes were tallied and shown in relevant tables containing frequencies and percentages. The results of the study showed that Fuzuli’s main Qur'anic theme was God (i.e., frequency: 13 times) and then he used several other themes such as Paradise and Resurrection Day. All in all, the findings of this study, which can be beneficial for those interested in carrying out research studies in literature and culture, demonstrate that Fuzuli utilized Qur’anic themes such as God, worship, religion and Hell in his poems in an attempt to show his knowledge with regard to Islamic customs and culture.
