Coronavirus Disease 2019 (Covid-19) is a new type of disease that has never been previously identified in humans. WHO declared Covid-19 a global pandemic. The Covid-19 pandemic has created a domino effect in many areas of people's lives. The impact of the Covid-19 pandemic has also caused problems in handling criminal cases starting from the process of investigation, prosecution, to trial because they have to follow the Health Protocol and cannot be done face-to-face (direct contact), even the trial process is carried out in person. virtual. This of course deviates from the process of handling criminal cases adopted by the Criminal Procedure Code because the Criminal Procedure Code does not regulate the instructions for conducting virtual trials. The implementation of a virtual trial, in reality, creates various obstacles. In terms of facilities, many courtrooms have not been arranged with teleconferencing facilities. Many internet networks are also unstable. The lack of resources that know the field of mastery of information technology. On the other hand, the probability of a trial hacking is very high. On the suspect/defendant side, the obstacles that occur include the validity of the evidence in the trial and obstacles to the evidentiary process involving many witnesses and also the physical evidence presented in the evidentiary process. Principals’ Use of Teleconferencing and Administrative Effectiveness in Secondary Schools in Akwa Ibom State - Nigeria

The study examined principals’ use of teleconferencing and administrative effectiveness in secondary schools in Akwa Ibom State. It investigated the availability level of teleconferencing facilities in schools, the perceived benefits of principals’ use of teleconferencing and the constraints facing principals’ use of teleconferencing for administrative effectiveness. The descriptive survey design was used for the study. Three research questions and one hypothesis were postulated to guide the study. The population consist all the secondary school principals in Akwa Ibom State. Two hundred and four (204) principals were randomly selected for the study. A researcher developed instrument titled “Principals’ Use of Teleconferencing and Administrative Effectiveness Questionnaire (PUTAEQ)” was used for data collection. Using Cronbach’s Alpha statistical tool, the test of internal consistency of the instrument yielded a reliability coefficient of 0.83. Data collected were analyzed using frequency counts, percentage scores and t-test analysis. The study revealed that teleconferencing facilities were lacking in schools and that principal’s gender has no significant influence on their attitude towards the use of teleconferencing. The study went further to reveal the perceived benefits and constraints that may be encountered by principals through the use of teleconferencing. It is therefore recommended amongst others that school administrators should increase their personal competency with teleconferencing and other digital technologies by exploiting professional development opportunities and self-study provided by the technologies themselves in order to enhance personal productivity in performing instructional, professional and administrative task.

Distance Mesuring of Physical Activity among Students and Workers of Moscow State University of Medicine and Dentistry

Since 2007 Moscow State University of Medicine and Dentistry (MSUMD) uses its own teleconferencing facilities. Distance learning courses on health promotion were started. Electronic textbooks in the field of health promotion were made available. Online questionnaire was design to determine physical activity (PA) which is known to be one of risk factors of development of chronic disease. Methods: 846 students and 144 workers of MSUMD were distance tested to detect their usual PA. Results: The used procedure proved to be valid. PA in women demonstrated to be lower than in men; PA of workers was higher than in students. Additional risk factors (i.e. obesity, smoking) were earlier found in students. Conclusion: Female students might have higher risk of noncommunicable diseases than male students in future due to their low PA. It seems to be higher spread of behavior risk factors among students than workers.

This is because the executive needs an assistant who invariably must bethe secretary who is trained in receiving visitors, answering and making telephone calls when the executive is busy onvery important engagements. What the secretary needs in order to keep his job is to be abreast of the new technologies.He should continually undergo retraining in secretarial or office skills and communication skills.

YSW01-02 - Forensic telepsychiatry in UK

Having developed the first Forensic Tele-psychiatry Service in UK in 2005 the presenter would like to share this experience with the attendees of the symposia. Recommendations under Part III of the Mental Health Act 1983 have also been made. They have been accepted by both the Magistrates’ as well as Crown Courts. Assessments were primarily undertaken using the already existent video-link facilities within local Magistrates’/Crown courts and HM Prisons. The above experience supports the view that this saves time, cost and improves access to psychiatric services.The presenter has also developed a Forensic Telepsychiatry Steering Group, with a research sub-committee, based in Nottingham. They are coordinating several research projects, exploring the use of teleconferencing facilities within forensic psychiatry. The session will discuss how the above is relevant to Forensic Psychiatrists and also address its importance to the training of forensic psychiatrists.Tele-psychiatry has been used by other services in UK in Forensic settings albeit in a narrow remit not involving actual gate keeping assessments, preparation of Court Reports etc. The session will discuss how it is crucial for services across the UK and beyond to share experiences and promote innovative practices. It will aim to explore ways to succeed with regard to delivering timely, easily accessible and clinically sound psychiatric services, with the additional spotlight on cost-efficiency, saving valuable professional time and ‘going green’ with respect to health service delivery.

An e-Health Approach to Managing Vascular Surgical Patients

The objective of this study was to investigate an e-health approach to managing patients presenting with vascular-type symptoms. A pilot study of a prospective cohort of patients referred from a single general practitioner practice of 5700 patients using electronic referral, assessment by a practice nurse, and teleconferencing facilities as an adjunct to normal referral and management practice was designed and conducted. Thirty-eight patients aged 30-93 years old (median 72 years) were enrolled in the study between March 2001 and July 2004. Twelve patients had leg ulceration and 12 complained of leg pain. The remainder had a range of symptoms potentially vascular in nature. All but 1 patient had an initial teleconsultation. This initial teleconsultation lasted a median of 11 minutes (interquartile range 9 minutes (min) 59 seconds (sec)-12 min 43 sec). For 10 patients this was their only contact with the hospital. One patient had teleconsultation follow-up only, 26 patients attended the hospital for vascular laboratory studies or angiography, and 8 of these went on to have radiological and/or surgical intervention. Three patients attended the outpatient department for follow up; all other follow-ups were managed via the teleclinic. Overall, 57 standard outpatient attendances in these patients were replaced by teleconsultations. Common vascular-type symptoms can be satisfactorily evaluated across a telelink with the aid of a practice nurse and baseline patient data transmitted electronically. Decisions can be made regarding the need for further investigation and attendance in outpatient clinic can be largely eliminated.

Microphone systems and signal processing: New opportunities in sound capture

Over the recent past, advances in two technical areas have opened new opportunities for sophisticated sound capture at distances. High-quality low-cost acoustic sensors, primarily in the form of electret microphones, are plentiful and can be used in large numbers. Continued progress in microelectronics now provides enormous amounts of economical computation. These incentives have stimulated research in new techniques for sound capture in practical acoustic environments—such as conference halls, noisy computer rooms, teleconferencing facilities, and mobile communication. Recent research has embraced the design of large-scale two- and three-dimensional arrays of microphones, and the implementation of algorithms for automatic sound source location. This report reviews the status of research in these areas. It also highlights the emerging applications of distant-talking sound capture for hands-free operation of communications equipment such as automatic speech recognizers. New systems for intercommunications—Synergy of acoustics and telecommunications

Proper room acoustics for audio teleconferencing and video teleconferencing facilities has been, at best, a matter of guesswork. In this paper, room acoustic treatments are varied in material and location within a typical conference room and the results studied using binaural analysis techniques. The relationship between room acoustics, speech intelligibility, speech interference, and mechanical noise levels in regard to teleconferencing systems will be explored in a quantitative manner, including the effects of ‘‘echo cancelling’’ technology.

Architectural acoustics design parameters for teleconferencing facilities

Audio and video teleconferencing equipment and room facilities have emerged as one of the fastest growing areas of communication and business technology. The acoustic environment is an extremely important component in (determining) the success of the teleconferencing experience. Additionally, other environmental factors such as: architectural space planning, design aesthetics, color, thermal, lighting, operations, etc. must also be considered. This paper will present a summary of the significant acoustical parameters and key environmental factors that impact the design and functional use of audio and video teleconferencing facilities, whether teleconferencing equipment is portable or permanently built‐in. Acoustic aspects related to the performance of teleconference facilities

Room acoustic design and electroacoustic system integration are paramount to the performance, and therefore effectiveness, of teleconferencing facilities. Some key elements that need to be considered during the design and implementation stages are (a) the effects of room acoustics on transmitted, received, and in‐room speech communications; (b) the effect of transmission bandwidth on intelligibility and audio quality in the teleconference suite; (c) the naturalness of interaction over a telephone network; (d) the impact of acoustic and electroacoustic devices in a visual communications medium; (e) room ambient noise and potential noise sources. These elements are examined in light of the recent design, implementation, and operation of 12 teleconference (audio and video) suites. Details of design choices and acoustic measurements of these teleconference suites will be presented.

A Telephone Group Support Program for the Visually-Impaired Elderly

Using tele-conferencing facilities, Telelink is a special telephone group support program designed to bring small groups of elderly people with visual impairment together in a telephone party-line each week for stimulation, social interaction, or therapy. The study aims to investigate what impact the program has on the life of the participants. Forty six people were interviewed. Both qualitative and quantitative data were collected. Family members were also interviewed. Variables examined included degree of isolation, social support, length of participation and participant ratings of benefit. Further, group dynamic analyses were obtained by direct 'observation' (listening in) of the group meetings. Correlational analyses indicated that the program had significant impact on the mental health of the participants, particularly for those who had recently been visually impaired, women who lived alone, and those who had little social contact. A Multi-Windows Multimedia System for Tele-monitoring and Computer-supported Repair

The paper describes a multimedia-broadband communication system for remote ship monitoring, diagnosis, and repair using the screen-sharing facility of workstations and a satellite communication link. It is supposed that on the board a workstation is placed with the capability of sensor data collection from each workstation at shipyard, head office of the shipping company, spare parts stock, spare parts supplier, ship classification society etc.For implementation of screen-sharing feature the X-WINDOW technique has been used, embedded into INTERACTIVE UNIX as operating system, and for implementation of communication functions the Ethernet oriented TCP/IP protocol, that enables, via an IP/X.25 router, to transfer the data over any package-switching communication facility.Integrated into the X-WINDOW system is also a knowledge-based diagnostic system for ship engine, implemented in a hybrid combination of Turbo-PROLOG and C, in which the process of engine diagnosis can be triggered on on-board crew demand, or by an alarm signal within the engine. The system pilot installation has been developed within the MARIN ABC Project of RACE Program of EEC and should be used, along with other video/voice communication and tele-conferencing facilities, for increase the safety and efficiency of ship operation as well as for logistic support and improvement of overall system operation.

Employing the complete acoustical palette in teleconferencing design

The prevailing architectural acoustics approach in teleconferencing is “Deader is better” or “No acoustics is better than bad acoustics.” In some situations, this is appropriate, but there are alternative approaches to reflection control in teleconferencing facilities which make use of the entire acoustical palette, namely absorption, reflection, and diffusion. Since the application of diffusive surfaces is new to the teleconferencing environment, a review of the development and the spatial, temporal, and spectral properties will be presented. A teleconferencing design for a board room will be proposed that makes use of an integrated suspended ceiling cloud, containing the various elements of the acoustical palette, as well as lighting, and HVAC elements. This design provides diffuse sound across the conference table, which allows a comfortable conversation level, better acoustic coverage and communication among the participants, as well as a more natural transmitted sound to the other end of the converstation. The ceiling cloud also affords a convenient approach for concealing the necessary HVAC ducts, wiring, etc. and also provides accessibility for maintenance.
