A Review on Implementing Lean Construction Technique in Construction Industry

In this literature review the concept of lean construction and its impact on time, cost, and resource management in construction projects are explored. The study examines various research articles and academic papers in the field of lean construction to identify the primary themes and findings. The review indicates that lean construction practices can have a positive effect on time, cost, and resource management by reducing waste, enhancing communication, and encouraging collaboration among stakeholders. The implementation of lean construction principles has been demonstrated to lead to shorter project durations, lower costs, and better resource allocation. However, the review also acknowledges the challenges associated with implementing lean construction in the construction industry, such as resistance to change, limited knowledge and understanding, and difficulties in assessing its impacts. In conclusion, this literature review concludes that lean construction has the potential to enhance time, cost, and resource management in construction projects, and proposes the need for further research to overcome the challenges and facilitate its adoption.

Construction Risks Management of Building Projects in Sultanate of Oman: Contractor and Owner Perspective

Managing risks is vital for any construction project to avoid cost overrun, schedule delay, and to meet the quality requirements. Over the last 10 years, the building market has evolved rapidly; businesses face greater risk and complexity than ever before. Risk assessment has been an integral aspect of the project management process. Because of the time and costs overruns involved with building projects, risk of building has become the focus of concern. This research focuses on exploring risk control techniques in construction industry. Risk reduction and management of planning is a critical approach that helps one to deal with the removal of different risks, their analyses, and the remedial steps that can be taken to remove them in a given project. Any construction company has to set up a risk management scheme to improve performance, reduce costs and increase sales. In this regard, set of principles have to be adopted for the development of ethical risk management planning decisions. In addition, hazards ought to be taken care of such that ensures a suitable norm of security for human wellbeing and the earth and at any rate offers the level of wellbeing that is sensible to people in the future today; there doesn't seem, by all accounts, to be any lawful avocation for limiting likely wellbeing and condition chances.

Experimental studies on R.C. columns with natural fibers

Adding natural fibers to concrete is a modern technique in construction industry. The aim of conducting the research is to compare the load carrying capacity of Reinforced Cement Concrete (RCC) columns by adding natural fibers in it. Total 30 columns were casted for observing the compressive strength of the column. Natural fibers like Rice husk, wheat husk, coconut fiber and wood fiber were added in 1 % and 3 % by weight of cement. On varying the percentage of replacement from 1% to 3%, rice husk was having the most positive impact on loading capacity as its load carrying capacity raises 1.67 times of normal column. On considering the all tests performed, rice husk fiber was found to be the best in replacement in concrete. The strength of the Fiber Reinforced columns (FRC) varies from 0.76 to 1.67 times in comparison to plain column. Adding fibers to the concrete raised the strength of column in the range of 1.5 to 3 times of design load. Coconut fiber columns showed poor ductility as compared to the other natural fibers i.e. wheat husk, rice husk and wood fiber. The coconut fiber column showed debonding between fibers and concrete at the time of ultimate loading. Failure of FRC column was nearly same as plain column. Hence natural fiber concrete is one of the environment friendly and economic option, which is used to construct low rise building

Forecasting techniques in construction industry: earned value indicators and performance models

Machine Learning Regression Techniques (MLRT) as a shrewd method can be utilized in this study being exceptionally fruitful in demonstrating non-linear and the interrelationships among them in problems of construction projects such as the earned value indexes for tall buildings projects in Republic of Iraq. Three forecasting models were developed to foresee Schedule Performance Index (SPI) as first model, Cost Performance Index (CPI) as a second model, and the third model is To Complete Cost Performance Indicator (TCPI) in Bismayah New City was chosen as a case study. The methodology is mainly impacted by the deciding various components (variables) which impact on the earned value analysis, six free factors (X1: BAC, Budget at Completion; X2: AC, Actual Cost; X3: A%, Actual Percentage; X4: EV, Earned Value; X5: P%, Planning Percentage, and X6: PV, Planning Value) were self-assertively assigned and agreeably depicted for per tall buildings projects. It was found that the MLRT showed good results of estimation in terms of correlation coefficient (R) generated by MLR models for SPI and CPI and TCPI where the R were 85.5%, 89.2%, and 86.3% respectively. A drywall is a high-performance lightweight interior wall system consisting of a GI steel frame, encased in gypsum plasterboard on either side attached with self drilling drywall screws. As BIM application continues to increase in civil engineering, in this study, 3D information model for RC(Reinforced Concrete) bridge pylon was developed and verified its effectiveness at the structural-design stage. To define 3D information model of RC A-Type pylon, characteristics of pylon were analyzed and 3D model structure was constructed. The 3D information model, one of the core product of BIM, manages all information generated during all life-cycle of a structure and consequently maximizes the efficiency of utilizing information. Also, this study proposes interface module between input data in structural analysis and 3D model of RC pylon. The module can create the input data for non-linear structural analysis. It is essential to study on method of developing 3D information model and propose a structural analysis model by utilizing 3D model for the effective use of BIM techniques in construction industry. The results of this study can be used as the base data for developing the 3D information model of RC pylon in the structural analysis field.

Occupational safety and health management expense in construction industry means the monetary amount that the purchaser appropriates to prevent various disaster from happening during the construction period by setting aside a certain amount from subcontract based on the construction type and scale. The current appropriation standard of the Ministry of Employment and Labor has been enforced since its stipulation in 1988 although various policy changes for the safety in construction industry, e.g. the development of occupational safety management techniques in construction industry, changes in construction field site environment, cost depreciation, etc., are happening in Korea and overseas. Therefore, it is required at this point to examine whether the current occupational safety and health management expense appropriation is proper or not on the basis of time trend and the changes in the construction industry environment. Accordingly, this study aims at investigating the appropriation of occupational safety and health management expense for construction industry by the construction type and target expense in response to current construction industry environment and proposing the proper appropriation. The above research result proposes the calibration of the appropriation as specified and stipulated by the Ministry of Employment and Labor by the construction type and target expense, which is necessary to reflect the actual condition of the current construction industry environment.

Pareto analysis of on-site productivity constraints and improvement techniques in construction industry

Productivity represents efficient and effective utilisation of scarce resources to achieve set objectives. Based on Pareto principle, this study aims to identify the nature of and improvement measures for the 20% of the factors causing 80% of the on-site productivity problems in the New Zealand construction industry. Qualitative data collected using pilot interviews formed the basis for questionnaire surveys of project managers, contractors and subcontractors in New Zealand. The quantitative data was analysed using the multi-attribute method and Pareto analysis. Results showed that the factors influencing on-site productivity comprise (in order of influence): project management/project team characteristics, project finance/cash flow, workforce characteristics, project design/characteristics, unforeseen events, technology/process, statutory compliance and wider external forces. Overall, it was found that the way a project is managed, financed and managed, coupled with the workforce and project characteristics, account for the bulk of the on-site productivity problems encountered during its implementation. The levels of impact and occurrence frequencies of the variables under the broad factor categories are reported; these are recommended as guide to optimal utilization of the available resources in addressing the constraints with a view to achieving significant on-site productivity improvement. Some Thoughts on the Development of Digital Technology in the Construction Industry

The influence of digital technique to construction industry has become more and more great. Current digital technique has transformed from the stage of “Computer-aided Drawing” to the stage of “Computer-aided Design and Analysis”. In recent years, along with the statement of construction information model and life cycle management of construction engineering concept, the digital technique penetrated the entire process of building program from project design, expand at the beginning of design, construction drawing design to the construction. The development and appliance of digital technique in construction industry were summarized. The digital technique’s development in future construction industry was also forecasted.
