Improving Teachers' Ability to Design Physical Education Learning Scenarios

This study aimed to: 1) Produce a draft lesson plan (RPP) in accordance with physical education learning. 2) Produce the design of physical education learning scenarios. The population in this study was elementary school Physical Education teachers in Ambon City, Central Maluku, and Tual City. The sample was determined by 1 Physical Education teacher from each district so that there were 4 teachers; 1 teacher from SD Negeri 65 Ambon, 1 teacher from SD Negeri 7 Masohi, 1 teacher from SD Negeri Sohoku, and 1 teacher from SD N Kolser Tual City. The area sampling technique was chosen based on the best representatives from each region. Data were collected using observation and documentation techniques. The assessment instrument for the preparation of Physical Education learning scenarios used the teacher professional education (PPG) assessment rubric. Data analysis used descriptive qualitative data analysis techniques. The results of preliminary data analysis show that the first, second, third, and fourth respondents all have very poor abilities. This can be seen from the results of the assessment score obtained amounting to 125 out of a total score of 280, or it can be said that the ability was 45%. Meanwhile, the fourth respondent hads an ability of 40%. Thus, based on the assessment scores of the elements of the learning model indicator, it was known that there is no teacher's ability to plan a learning model that can be used to teach the subject matter based on the demands of the 2013 curriculum. This can be seen from the acquisition of the average assessment score at the achievement of number 1. This is because the scenario does not include what learning model is suitable for teaching the selected subject matter. Keywords: teacher ability, scenario design, physical education learning

EVALUATING ENGLISH PRE-SERVICE TEACHER PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION PROGRAM IMPLEMENTATION

The English Pre-Service Teacher Professional Education Program is a breakthrough established by the Indonesian government to produce certified professional English teachers who are trained to teach at the elementary, secondary, and preschool levels. This study aims to evaluate the implementation of the English Pre-Service Teacher Professional Education Program (PPG) at Sanata Dharma University using a Context, Input, Process, Product (CIPP) evaluation model. By evaluating and identifying the advantages and disadvantages of the current English Pre-Service Teacher Professional Education Program, this study would provide a framework that would improve the standard of English Pre-Service Teacher Professional Education Program implementation at Sanata Dharma University. This study employed mixed methods. The study participants were 30 English pre-service teachers enrolled in the English Pre-Service Teacher Professional Education Program in the English Department at Sanata Dharma University. A focus-group interview, an open-ended questionnaire, and a CIPP survey were used to collect data for this study which was conducted during the implementation of the English Pre-Service Teacher Professional Education Program. It is expected that utilizing the CIPP Model as a decision-making tool can help Sanata Dharma University improve the efficacy of the English Pre-Service PPG implementation.

Causal Inference Thinking of Elementary School Teacher Professional Education Program Students in Determining Digital Strategies to Solve Mathematical Problems

This research aims to examine the causal inference thinking of PPG PGSD students in solving mathematical problems. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study type. The subjects of this research were four pre-service PPG students from PGSD UM. The instruments for this research include researchers, indicator rubrics, validation sheets, researcher notes, mathematical problems, internet networks, laptops, and handphones. Research subjects as data sources produce data that is analyzed in the form of written answers and recorded interviews. The qualitative data analysis technique used in this research is the interactive model. The results of this research show that fast causal inference thinking is characterized by expressing familiarity with mathematical problem solving, expressing familiarity with accessing digital platforms to solve mathematical problems, accessing digital platforms with keywords, correlating the characteristics of information with specific digital platforms, and Accessing specific digital platforms spontaneously. Slow Causal Inference Thinking is characterized by accessing more than one digital platform to understand a piece of information and read the math problem text repeatedly. The digital platforms that the subjects considered to be a solution were the Google and YouTube platforms.

Mathematics Professional Teacher Education (TPE) Participants Viewed From Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK)

Teachers and prospective teachers are required to carry out learning to master and continue to develop Pedagogical Content Knowledge (PCK) competencies, even now they are required to master technology and then PCK competencies are developed into Technology Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK). A mathematics teacher must of course master mathematical skills because this is the main asset for teaching the material. This research aims to analyze the perceptions of in-service PPG participants regarding the professionalism of mathematics teachers based on the TPACK framework. This research is a qualitative research. The subjects of this research were 7 prospective mathematics teachers from 30 participants, where the sample was taken by sampling, namely by taking participants from vocational school teachers on the grounds that participants who taught vocational schools had challenges where the students' orientation was ready to work so they were less enthusiastic about mathematics lessons. The research data is in the form of findings from an analysis of prospective teachers' mathematical ability profiles. It is hoped that these findings can be used as a basis for further theory.

Educational Studies, Pedagogy and Education as a Discipline

ABSTRACT This article continues the efforts of Gert Biesta and Jim Hordern to address the nature and organisation of educational studies as highlighted in a recent special issue titled ‘Educational studies today and for the future: threats, hopes, and collaborations’ in BJES (Volume 7, No. 5, 2023). The aim is to articulate a distinctive voice or language within the study of education, addressing contemporary challenges in the field. Invoking German Pädagogik and American educationalist Schwab’s theory of the Practical, this article makes a case for pedagogy as a distinctive discipline of education that has its own ways of thinking and theorising, centred on questions as to the purpose of education and the nature of educational practice. Furthermore, it asserts that pedagogy is a ‘practical’ discipline centred on understanding and developing educational practice. Conceived in this way, pedagogy can serve as a core and unifying component in educational studies, integrating the foundation disciplines and other subjects into the study of practice. It also functions as the ‘crowning’ discipline that organises foundation disciplines and related sources toward the professional education of teachers.

Adoption of SPACE-learning management system in education era 4.0: an extended technology acceptance model with self-efficacy

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused constraints on education that takes place face-to-face; thus, the learning process has been conducted online. With this emergence, an application-based learning tool called a Learning Management System (LMS) was created to cater to the requirements of distant students. Therefore, this study explores how SPACE-LMS is used in the Teacher Professional Education Program (TPEP) and how it interacts with the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and self-efficacy. This study collected data from TPEP participants in the province of West Sumatra-Indonesia from the 2022 cohort, and 245 individuals actively participated. As the quantitative method, Partial Least Square-Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) analysis with SmartPLS software was used to test and predict the conceptual model. The empirical findings demonstrate that the readiness of adopting SPACE influences perceived ease of use (PEU) and perceived usefulness (PU). Self-efficacy (SE) influences PEU and intention to use (ITU); PEU influences PU; PEU influences attitudes toward users (ATT); and PU influences ATT. Interestingly, PU had no impact on the ITU. The desire of TPEP students to use the SPACE-LMS is also influenced by their sense of self-efficacy. Thus, this study has both theoretical and practical implications.

The Inquiry Initiative and “Opportunity Gaps”: Collaborative Research Structures and Challenging Inequities in Teacher Education

ABSTRACT While academic conferences and professional associations were amongst those societal structures that were immediately (and arguably forever) changed by the pandemic , many – including this article’s authors and this special issue’s editors – would argue that long before the pandemic, the static structure of professional conferences had made them decidedly less relevant to their members and their fields. In response, in 2022 the Association of Teacher Educators launched the Inquiry Initiative, aiming to develop a novel form of collaborative research structure, uniting teacher education scholars and practitioners to examine and address “opportunity gaps” in education. In this introductory article to this special issue, we explore these professional association contexts and teacher education research circumstances in an effort to help readers understand the unique set of factors that have resulted in this edition of The New Educator. We share a concise history of academic conferences in the US; we situate this history in a brief literature review on collaborative research structures. We outline the elements of the Initiative as it has been implemented over the course of the last three years, concisely detailing the nature of the “opportunity gaps” focus of the first Initiative, and offering short summaries of the articles in this special issue, considering their connections to the “opportunity gaps” topic. We conclude with a reflection on the nature of academic scholarship in the US and the need for and place of such alternative collaborative structures in the service of these research endeavors.

Game-based Pedagogy in Teacher Training: Results of a Pilot Course

Game-based learning (GBL) and gamification can improve the learning experience of students by making learning more fun, interesting, and motivating. However, integrating games in practice is challenging for many teachers as it requires competences that not necessarily are part of their teaching repertoire. Game-based pedagogy (GBP) refers to the teaching methods and learning processes involved in learning with games. Research stresses the need for adequate professional development and teacher education on GBP. However, there is a lack of empirical knowledge on effective methods to prepare pre-service and in-service teachers for using game-based learning. The aim of our research is to gain insight into the design of effective GBP learning experiences for teachers. The guiding research question was: What design elements of a course on GBL impacted in-service teachers' GBP competences and teaching practice? We investigated this question in the context of a teacher education program in the Fall 2023. We conducted an empirical study in which a course on GBL was designed, implemented, and evaluated in practice. The participants were 16 in-service secondary teachers from different disciplines in secondary education, from which 13 agreed to participate in this study, and three course leaders. We investigated participants’ and course leaders’ experiences, participants’ competences in GBP, the impact on participants’ teaching practice and the way design elements contributed to it. The data consisted of participant reflections, transcripts from participants and course leaders’ interviews and answers to a questionnaire. The data was collected and analysed using quantitative and qualitative methods between January and April 2024. Results reveal that in-service teachers’ improved their competences on GBP and increased their use of GBL in practice. Qualitative data analysis provides insight into the course's design elements and on participants’ learning process. This study contributes to GBP-education by offering a possible design solution and framework for developing effective teacher education.

Peningkatan Kreativitas Siswa dalam Proses Belajar dengan Model Problem Based Learning pada Materi Suara Hati Fase E Kelas X SMA Negeri 2 Mejayan

This article was written based on the results of observations while teachers were taking PPL while pursuing professional teacher education. From the research, it was found that students' learning creativity was lacking due to the use of monotonous learning models and not using appropriate approaches for each subject matter. For this reason, the author tries to apply the Problem Based Learning learning model. Problem-based learning or better known as PBL is a learning model that is centered on students by providing problems from the real world at the start of learning. With this learning model, it is hoped that it can increase student learning creativity. This research aims to examine the effectiveness of problem-based learning (PBL) in increasing students' creativity in studying the material "Voices of the Heart" in class X at SMA Negeri 2 Mejayan, Madiun. Data was collected through written tests, observations and interviews. The research results showed a significant increase in student creativity after implementing PBL. Students become more active, involved, and able to produce more creative solutions to problems. This research shows that PBL can be an effective approach to increasing student creativity.

The English Teaching Style in the Merdeka Curriculum Realized through Professional Development

The purpose of this research was to investigate English teaching styles in the Merdeka Curriculum realized through professional development. The method used was a qualitative research method with a case study design. The instrument in this study is an observation of learning videos when in-service PPG students conduct PPL. The researcher found several teaching styles used by English teachers in their learning in class such as facilitator, delegator, formal, and expert teaching styles. However, whatever teaching style the teacher uses must be by the students' learning style. This research concluded that English teachers who took part in the in-service teacher professional education (PPG) program got significant improvements and teacher skills in applying teaching styles and teaching methods were more interactive and in accordance with the principles of the Merdeka Curriculum.

Foreign studies of simulation training in professional teacher education: literature review

Simulation teaching methods are actively used in the training of doctors and in clinical practice, but in the context of higher pedagogical education, their large-scale consideration began relatively recently. It is important to integrate the experience of business and role-playing games, the potential of the case method and the capabilities of virtual spaces to create a cognitive and communicative learning environment for teachers working with different student populations. The article presents foreign publications devoted to these problems.

PERANAN FILSAFAT PADA PROGRAM PENDIDIKAN PROFESI GURU DALAM JABATAN ANGKATAN 3 (KAJIAN ONTOLOGI, EPISTOMOLOGI, DAN AKSIOLOGI)

The purpose of this study is to explore the role of philosophy in the in-service professional education program, batch 3, when viewed from the study of ontology, epistemology, and axiology. This type of research is qualitative research. This research method uses a case study method. The role of teachers in the education system is very important, not only as a transmitter of knowledge but also as a shaper of students' moral and ethical character. Teachers are required to continue to develop their competence to become professionals, per Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 14 of 2005 which mandates academic qualifications, competence, certification, and physical and mental health. The Teacher Professional Education Program (PPG) aims to ensure that teachers have the required competence. This program is divided into pre-service PPG and in-service PPG, which are intended for teachers who are already actively teaching. This study focuses on in-service PPG batch 3 at HKBP Nommensen University. The results of the study are that the philosophy of education has an important role in the PPG program, providing a theoretical basis for improving teacher competence. Teachers can understand and apply ethical, moral, and scientific knowledge values ​​in teaching through the study of philosophy, including ontology, epistemology, and axiology. This research is expected to contribute significantly to the development of teacher competence.

Pengembangan Model Pembelajaran Collaborative Artistic Platforms Terintegrasi dengan Projek Penguatan Profil Pelajar Pancasila Untuk Optimasi Mahasiswa PPG di Sekolah Mitra

This research aims to develop a Collaborative Artistic Platforms learning model that is integrated with the Pancasila Student Profile Strengthening Project, in order to optimize the abilities of PPG (Professional Teacher Education) students at partner schools. This model is designed to improve collaborative skills, creativity and understanding of Pancasila values through interactive artistic activities. Research methods include model development, implementation in the field, and evaluation of effectiveness through qualitative and quantitative approaches. The research results show that this learning model is effective in increasing student involvement, their understanding of Pancasila values, as well as more creative and collaborative teaching abilities. It is hoped that this model can become a reference in developing a PPG curriculum that is more innovative and relevant to educational needs in Indonesia.

Transformation of the Competencies of Students of a Pedagogical University in the Process of Organizing Professional and Mobile Practice

To the problem statement. The article deals with the problem of training profes-sional and pedagogical personnel, which does not meet the modern requirements of professional ed-ucation of future teachers, who are called upon to teach students of the secondary vocational educa-tion system after graduating from a vocational pedagogical university. The basis of this problem is the duality of the content of the activity of teachers, who need to possess not only psychological and pedagogical competencies, but also to master the experience of professional activity in working specialties. This requires a comprehensive transformation of the psychological, pedagogical and professional production competencies of the future teacher of the vocational education system. The purpose of the article is to show that in a professionally oriented environment, the trans-formation of competencies, the complex professional and personal formation of the future teacher of the secondary vocational education system (SPE) is more successfully carried out. The author of the article suggests a solution to this problem through the organization of an industrial practice, which he modernizes as a professionally mobile practice. R. H. Iskhakov argues that the professional personal quality formed in the conditions of this type of practice as professional mobility will contribute to the transformation of the psychological, pedagogical and professional production competencies of the future teacher of the vocational education system. Professional mobility is becoming one of the key conditions for the transformation of the competencies of a future teacher of vocational education. The author of the article presents the basic concepts of transformation and professional mobility at a sufficient and necessary level in the context of the article. The article has scientific and methodological significance, as it presents the methodology of organizing professional and mobile practice. Not only types of practices are presented. but also elective courses that students master before starting the practice itself. Successful organization of professional and mobile practice is possible on the basis of a dual approach to the organization of training – mutual cooperation between representatives of the university and educational organizations of vocational education, on the basis of which the above–mentioned practice of students of a vocational pedagogical university is conducted. In this collaboration, the important role of the master mentor is defined. This concept has been tested in the context of scientific research, the results of which the au-thor presented in the article. The level of formation of professional mobility among students in the conditions of scientific research will be determined by integral criteria: communicative, research competence and adaptability Conclusion. The professional development of a modern teacher largely depends on professional mobility, adaptability, the need for self-improvement, readiness and ability to master new competencies, which is due to rapid changes in personal and professional qualities and types of activity.

K-Nearest Neighbors (K-NN) Algorithm Model in Predicting the Graduation Rate of Teacher Professional Education Students in Indonesia

Predicting the graduation rate of the PPG program has an important significance in analyzing the factors that affect students' success in completing the PPG program. This study uses the K-Nearest Neighbor model in online learning to predict the pass rate of students in the Teacher Professional Education Program (PPG) at UIN Walisongo Semarang. The study analyzed data from 423 students, focusing on input quality variables, such as pedagogical competence and teaching innovation. Results showed the Wave 1 pass rate in 2023 was 86.7%, with 13.3% failure, a 1.7% decrease from Wave 3 in 2022. The confusion matrix showed significant improvement in True Positives (TP) and True Negatives (TN), with an accuracy of 0.916, precision of 0.3, and recall of 0.9725 students' academic achievement.

TECHNOPARK OF UNIVERSAL PEDAGOGICAL COMPETENCIES IN THE SYSTEM OF PROFESSIONAL TRAINING FAILITIES OF FUTURE PHYSICS TEACHERS

Background. The article deals with the problem of improving the system of professional education for future physics teachers. As part of the program “Teacher of the future generation of Russia” in order to improve the material base in the pedagogical universities of the country modern educational spaces were created - Technoparks of universal pedagogical competencies. Purpose. To reveal the potential of the technopark of universal pedagogical competencies as an innovative means of increasing the effectiveness of training future physics teachers. Materials and methods. The methodological basis of the work is made up of systematic, competence-based and technological approaches. Theoretical analysis of scientific literature, pedagogical experiment, observation, testing, comparison, methods of mathematical statistics were used as research methods. Results. The comparative characteristics of the Тechnopark equipment and the equipment of the university laboratories was conducted, which became the basis for revealing the potential of the Тechnopark. The positive impact of the technopark on the development of key professional competencies of future physics teachers has been experimentally proven. The level of development of professional competencies of future physics teachers was diagnosed. Statistical processing of the results obtained was carried out using Fisher’s exact test, indicating the significance of differences between the selected groups of students. Practical recommendations for the implementation of this educational facility are formulated. The prospect of further study of the problem is assumed.

Assessing Work Habits and Discipline: High School Teachers in South Sumatra Province Post In-Service Teacher Professional Education Program (PPG-DALJAB)

From the results of the research, it was found that many factors affect the professional competence of a teacher. Two of the most dominant factors influencing professional competence are "work habits and discipline." This study aims to examine the influence of these two variables on the professional competence of teaching teachers after participating in PPG DALJAB. Data-based correlational method obtained from the distribution of questionnaires and observations. Data was collected from the population of secondary school teachers in South Sumatra which amounted to 29,950, while a random sample was taken from 150 teachers who had completed the PPG DALJAB. The results of the study succeeded in proving that the work habits and discipline of secondary school teachers after participating in PPG DALJAB had a positive and significant effect on teaching professional competence, both partially and simultaneously. However, there was no significant difference in the professional competence of teaching teachers after attending PPG DALJAB with the previous one.

Professionalism in Education: The Supportive Power of Professional Teacher Education for Young Quality Teachers in the Digital Era Towards Indonesia Emas 2045

<p>Kewajiban setiap guru untuk menempuh Pendidikan Profesi Guru (PPG) merupakan salah satu kebijakan pemerintah untuk memajukan kualitas pendidikan dengan meningkatkan kualitas profesional tenaga pendidik yaitu guru. Tujuan penelitian ini adalalah untuk menyelidiki, menganalisis, dan mendeskripsikan daya dukung Pendidikan Profesi Guru (PPG) bagi guru muda yang berkualitas dalam meningkatkan profesionalisme guru di era digital menuju Indonesia Emas 2045. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah literatur review. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa PPG memberikan manfaat signifikan bagi guru muda, termasuk peningkatan kompetensi pedagogik, penguasaan materi, keterampilan manajerial, keterampilan penguasaan teknologi dan digitalisasi, serta sikap profesional. Simpulan, secara umum Pendidikan Profesi Guru (PPG) merupakan salah satu upaya yang tepat untuk memajukan pendidikan di Indonesia dengan meningkatkan kualitas sumber daya yang ada yakni tenaga pendidik atau guru, khususnya bagi guru muda di Indonesia.</p>

EXAMINING TEACHERS’ READINESS TO IMPLEMENT THE KURIKULUM MERDEKA IN THE MADRASAH IBTIDAIYAH CONTEXT

The Indonesian government continues improving teachers’ readiness to implement the Kurikulum Merdeka. Teacher readiness plays an important role in supporting the implementation of the Kurikulum Merdeka. This study aims to examine teachers’ readiness to implement the Kurikulum Merdeka. This study used a descriptive quantitative approach. Data was mainly collected by distributing online questionnaires through the Whatsapp chat application. The questionnaire was used to collect data on teacher readiness in (1) understanding of The Kurikulum Merdeka policies, (2) understanding of curriculum structure, (3) understanding of the Pancasila Student Profile Strengthening Project (P5), (4) readiness to develop lesson plans, (5) readiness to deliver instruction, and (6) readiness to conduct instructional assessments. Forty Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MI) teachers were involved as respondents. They were in-service teachers who were students of the Teacher Professional Education Study Program (PPG). They came from the provinces of East Java, South Sulawesi, West Nusa Tenggara, Southeast Sulawesi, West Java, South Kalimantan, East Nusa Tenggara, and Bali. The data were analyzed using the quantitative descriptive method. The results showed that measuring the six key aspects of the Kurikulum Merdeka showed that teacher readiness was in the high category. However, some respondents still get a medium score in learning and assessment. So, the research respondents are sufficiently ready to implement the Kurikulum Merdeka but still need to improve their readiness for learning and assessment.
